Q. Pure android rom? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi all im new to samsung coming from htc everything jas seemed to be alot easier but my question is will there eventually be a pure android 4.2.2 and also where is the file for ota update so I can stop them thanks much I advance for any help
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app

Technically all you have to do is freeze a Verizon app like Backup Assistant Plus (just one you couldn't normally disable if you weren't rooted) and if an OTA tries to do anything it will see your rooted by the fact it can't see those apps and the OTA will fail anyway.

Thanks much yea I started using titamium backup to freeze uninstall stuff but I wanna I gues get my ram usae alot lower so battery is evem better than what it already is lol

Ota coming soon!

I was informed today that Verizon is pushing out the new Ota already. If you haven't gotten it you will soon. 2 questions....
1. Do we have to Odin back to stock to receive the update?
2. Will there have to be a new process to root after we accept the ota?
Should this have gone under the Q and A?

I think this has already been discussed. The nee ota is nothing more than the search feature dumbing down and a new baseband+kernel. I believe you can root this with the current method. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Why mess up your root? Just give it some time and the devs will probably have the update rooted and ready to flash with Odin !
Can anybody confirm that these will not auto-install?
On my HTC Incredible, I would just hit install later, but the popup would come back every 15 minutes.. very annoying!
Soon as the update comes out I will have a fully deodexed rooted zipaligned version available.
If I can figuire it out, I will also make an Odin image out of it.

No one does. But literally its as simple as putting the old search apk back into the new rom or ota. Nothing to be worried about

Double post please delete.
I love how Samsung and Verizon take so long to release updates - except when it's to take away the features on your phone. They get those out pretty quickly.
Does this OTA have any benefit??

I don't remember where I read this but you have to freeze FWUpdate.

It's been pretty well established how to restore proper search functionality. The real question should be what do the kernel and radios do? Any improvements in reception or battery life? Any improvements in device performance? And most importantly, does this change anything regarding bootloader unlocking research and work-arounds?

Thanks, didn't even think to do that for some reason. I just froze FWUpgrade, SDM & VZWUpdate in Titanium Backup.. can anyone confirm if there's anything more that needs to be frozen?
Here 1. Don't accept it. 2. We can pull radio and kernel and install those.

Update should fail anyway if you don't have a stock recovery. They generally require a stock recovery to update the phone.

I consistently get -75 to -85 dbm so I really don't think there is a reception issue with the 4G radio for me. Now the WiFi is awful for me. That could be improved. GPS is sick.... I lock on in about half a second

FYI guys, we can still root using the same method after the OTA (VRALG1)

This is a little embarrassing but.

I just went from froyo to using Padawan 6.2
Only thing is I can't get jigglestar to work anymore. I guess it's not a big deal but I used to have a lot of fun with it.
Any idea if it's the app or something specific with my phone?

If you restored the app from titanium backup and its not working, try uninstalling it and install it fresh from the play store
BTW, how the heck did you have froyo on your note? It came with gingerbread when first released and now comes with ics. lol

Im sure the OP means GB ....
Plus 1, on a fresh app install from the play store ..
And under "applications " on the device, set the ..."run older applications in compatability mode ".....to..."ON"....g
Oh no, was froyo on a different device.
I never did anything with the more until after I rooted it so I have no experience with gingerbread.
I installed it on my note from the market.
I am thinking it is probably in dire needed if an update and isn't going to get one. So sad because it was the best boob app ever.

Multi-questions

Let me first say :glad to be back (3-4 years back had a nokia with symbian that with the help of this forum i did minor modifications to)on the forum and out of the clutches of apple(3-4 days ago traded iphone 4 32gb for LGOG)
Now first question: I've rooted my phone attempting to remove any and all bloatware, however I can't seem to remove it?
Second question: in regards to cases what's the differences between att and sprint LGOG's?
Third question: how do I sent picture messages? Seems like a dumb question but every time I try to do so the message says something like "picture too big ,compressing" now normally that's fine it compresses the picture I send and its good however when I get said message the text I had started to send to whomever is gone and I'm back at the message as if I never started it?
Fourth question: how do I send a multiple contact message?
Finally : since this was a multiple question post, I did search , did read, tried everything I could think of to avoid asking a repeated-a-million-times-question , sorry if I did and sorry if I put in wrong part of forum
Thank you sincerely
LGOG rookie

After you root, before you delete/disable/uninstall any apps. Do the Freegee bl unlock. Otherwise you will get bl security errors and bootloops.

Nope, you have to pay for it in the app store.
Or you can search and take a look in the other section (like the development section). I could be wrong, I dunno.
Drat well as in expensive as it is,still can't afford it at the moment

You should be able to disable most bloat through settings, manage applications, then all. Click on the app you want to disable and go to town.

Read carrett's at the top of the section. He explains flashing of new ROM's, etc. The ROM's can be found in one of the 2 development sections.

install titanium backup ROOT , delete any apps you do not want, really I just deleted most of the at&t stuff or stuff that requires you to purchase other things. one app that is worth its money is root explorer, sounds like you are new to android, one helpful tip to you is when you do buy these things in the play store you will always have it as long as you remember your google account, get a new device bam, still have the apps you purchased.
Yes I'm extremely new to droid as a whole
Let alone rooting and other info
Been trying to avoid posting a millions questions that could be avoided with a couple searches, I'm coming from iphone .
Iphones are insanely simple compared to droid ,however with the right tweaks droid can prevail for sure.

I phones seem simple because they don't have any of the customizations that android does. So, I guess iPhone is simple and not in a good way.
Also, "droid" is more commonly used to refer to the phone model by Motorola. We generally use the term android when speaking of the OS in broader terms. But more commonly we use the specific term for the version of Android or ROM that we're speaking of at the moment, Jelly Bean, AOSP, stock, for example. You'll get the hang of it.

Download the free Freegee App from the play store.
Run the app. Backup EFS. Click unlock Bootloader.
Boot into Fast Boot, then CWM or TWRP (depending what recovery you chose when using Freegee)
Make a backup.
Reboot phone and get an app called Titanium Backup (paid version has more options)
Using Titanium Backup you can uninstall bloatware or freeze them if you have the paid version (this is easiest and safest I believe)
OR you can use Root Explorer or a similar root file manager to manually delete each apk
Be careful what you delete. There is a post here listing what apps can safely be removed without messing up your phone.
Read twice, click once. Good luck

I would also have to say to the new guys...dont get all wound up on installing a new rom, trust me I have upgraded lots of roms from backflip, atrix, htc inspire but all those needed it. I have to say the original rom that comes on these LG's is pretty good, unless it doesnt do what you need it to I wouldnt worry about a new rom. root it so you can delete some of the bloat.
100% agreed. Amazing Rom for stock. I did the same thing and I'm loving it

82 system files/bloat safely frozen with titanium Pick n choose !

I have compiled 82 system apps that I have frozen via titanium backup pro, I have risked a lot with my 600$ device and guinea pigged myself as a test subject ,for the greater cause .Of course I do have plenty nandroid backups if anything were to have gone wrong .As of now there are no know issues, force closes, etc....force closes are common when u freeze the wrong app, just for future reference !Also some force closes render the phone helpless unless you do a battery pull..in which the HTC one dorsnt have a battery to pull.
So as far as my compiled list is concerned it Is safe for everyone to use.
Everything works as should. You can choose to safely freeze whichever of the 82 apps/apks you prefer to. Feel free to add any apps you have also tested to be safe to freeze .
This greatly helps reduce lag , free up ram and and may even provide better battery life ,due to android os that sometimes has many system apps... that we don't know what they do exactly but many greatly affect our battery life because they unnecessarily run in the background and drain batter and the majority of them we never use .
This is the list freeze as many or as little as you desire to.
Every one check marked indicates it's safe to freeze .
NOTE: DO NOT DELETE/REMOVE ANY OF THESE APPS IN TITANIUM BACKUP UNLESS YOU POSITIVELY HAVE A NANDROID BACKUP IN cwm or twrp RECOVERY.I AM ONLY PROVIDING INFO ON "FREEZING APPS" "NOT DELETING".
I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OR FEEL OBLIGATED TOO...FOR THE LACK OF FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS POSTED .
Please leave feedback with your observations towards any improvements or issues if any that you may experience.
Mod plz delete
Well, this list is very subjective. Alot of what you froze alot of people actually use. Like street view...document viewer...the remote app...among others. From looking at what you diabled it seems all you want to do is make calls and text lol.
THIS IS ABOUT WHAT CAN BE FROZEN WITHOUT ANY SYSTEM ISSUES OR FORCE CLOSES .
If you want to unappreciated that's fine too.
Obviously I have takin the freezing to an extreme,it's called freezing as many apps as possible that DONT AFFECT SYSTEM FUNCTION IN A NEGATIVE MANOR.There are many I'm sure who don't use these apps and would find It fine to do so ....and only care about speeding up there device ...I have done no wrong ..infact if anything I've answered possible questions in the future on if them apps can be frozen ....maybe there are people who would want the most possible options .So it is up to whomever to pick and choose what they want to freeze from the list. All I have done was made It clear that if they want to take it to the extreme ,all these system apps and apks are safe to freeze with no issues .

You think you quoted the wrong post
Exactly what I was looking for, one of the first things I do when I got my phone. I can confirm this is a good list

Need help from someone experienced

I have a galaxy s4 for verizon. I rooted it around May 25 using something called motochopper which I think used a mostly stock rom. Around mid July I started getting a message pop up to update my system software. So far I have not done this because I read it would remove root. I would like to keep my phone rooted and either remove the message to update or else find out how I can update and then re-root. The issue is one time I press the install update by accident and thankfully it gave an error which prevented my phone from updating so i am not even sure how to do this. I am not very experienced with this sort of thing and I really have no idea about all of the different types of roms out there. Can somebody point me in the right direction to a guide?
I have the ATT I337 S4 but check out the Verizon forum every so often. If you have "root" and a "recovery" with "Loki doki" than I would flash a Rom u might take interest in.most roms have the update option blocked. Have a backup made in case u don't like what u flash.read and follow all install procedures for each Rom/kernel.

I originally used the app Titanium backup to freeze the update app (since I use Titanium backup anyway). Go to backup/restore and scroll down to SDM 1.0 and freeze it.
But I also believe you can disable the app by long pressing the update notification, clicking app info and disabling it there.
duckworth has the right idea. Freeze SDM 1.0 with TiBu and also freeze FWupdate. There is also a way to delete the downloaded update from your phone. Can't remember where its located though.

Thanks I did this and it worked. Now what I wonder is if I just keep the original ROM which I rooted, is this going to be a problem 2+ years from now when Android is at 5.X or 6.X and I am still running 4.2.

2+ years from now, you will probably have a different phone... the Galaxy S8 or Note 7 haha. It shouldn't be a problem and you could always flash a Custom ROM depending on your current build. Are you on MDK or ME7?
