[RANDOM BOOT ANIMATION] [1080P] Lots of Boot Animation Downloads & ROM TOOLBOX - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

This thread will show you how to do a couple things.
a) Install a custom boot animation.
b) Randomize your boot animation so each time you reboot, you get a different boot animation (only available with pro version of the app I use).
I'll be updating the thread every few days with new animations until I get a pretty good library. If I'm really super motivated, I might accept boot animation requests. Otherwise, all you need is the boot animation factory linked at the bottom of this thread.
REQUIREMENTS:
-You need to be rooted.
-You need an unlocked bootloader (only if AT&T or Verizon).
-You need a kernel that supports custom boot animation (Faux, Ktoonsez, any AOSP kernel - I'm currently using SlimBean 5.6).
-You *might need to have an AOSP ROM. I have not tried stock rooted TouchWiz yet.
Okay, here's how you do custom boot animations!!!
1) Install ROM Toolbox Lite (consider upgrading to the pro version).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
*Note, there are other ways to install boot animations, but those methods are not supported in this thread.
2) Copy the boot animation file(s) to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter which. Nor does it matter what folder you put them into.
3) Open ROM Toolbox Lite:
4) Close out of the disclaimer:
5) From the main menu, just swipe your finger to scroll to the right:
6) Now you're at the Interface tab. Click on Boot Animations:
7) You can click on "later" to not upgrade. But I do recommend upgrading. This is a VERY cool app:
8) Click "OK" to the disclaimer:
9) From the "Server" tab, you can download boot animations. But you don't want to, because none of them are 1080x1920 and will look "small" on your screen:
10) Instead, swipe to the right so you an view the "Randomize" tab. Read the info if you like:
11) Now swipe to the left to the "Local" tab. And navigate to the folder where you stored your boot animations that you have downloaded from this thread:
INSTALLING A SINGLE BOOT ANIMATION FROM THE FREE VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) Single-click on any boot animation you see in this folder:
2) Click on "Install".
3) Reboot phone and on the first (OR SECOND) reboot, you should see your boot animation and it should fill the 1080x1920 screen.
INSTALLING RANDOM BOOT ANIMATIONS IF YOU UPGRADED TO THE PRO VERSION OF ROM TOOLBOX:
1) At the "Randomize" tab, move the sider to the "On" position (top right of screen):
2) Swipe left to the "Local" tab:
3) Single-click a boot animation and select the "Add to randomizer" option (repeat for each boot animation you want):
4) If you're on the free version of ROM Toolbox, you'll be prompted to upgrade. Select either "Unlock boot randomizer" or "ROM Toolbox Pro". The Pro version is more expensive, but it unlocks every option the app has. And there are lots of cool options. Choice is up to you:
5) Since I already paid for the pro version, I installed that:
6) Now click on "open":
7) Go through the steps again and grant Root Permissions when prompted (your Superuser request may be different looking than mine):
8) Ignore the disclaimer:
9) When you finish adding boot animations to the randomizer, your "Randomize" tab will look similar to this. Now you're ready to reboot over and over and over and enjoy all your new boot animations!
Thank you to JaeKar99 for creating or sourcing all the boot animations that I modified to work in 1080x1920 resolution for our Galaxy S4 phones.

Thank you to jsho31 on XDA for pointing me to ROM Toolbox (which I already had but didn't realize it had the boot animation randomizer - which is awesome!)

Not working for you?
Finally found the solution in a thread by anbech, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897969
Use the CWM_CustomBootanimation_421_Enable.zip. It's for the S3, but works fine on the S4.
Just because the kernel supports it doesn't mean the system does. This flashes the file "bootanimation" to the /system/bin folder. That file is already there, so I made a copy of the existing one before overwriting it with this (just in case).
I'm not using ROM Toolbox, I just copy my animation (bootanimation.zip) to the /system/media folder since I don't change it often, but it should work.
The link above also has a good tutorial on making boot animations.
By the way, I'm using agat's kernel.

The images are working fine on my PC as of today. I have a question. If I install this, will it replace Samsung's display boot animation, or the ATT symbol with the globe showing?

I am on Goldeneye, followed your instructions, and it does not work. I still have the SAMSUNG boot animation. Is it not possible to manually replace the image files or make flash files out of there? Just wondering cause I would like a new animation but it is not working for me .
Edit: I believe this is cause silly Samsung uses QMG, which is proprietary, for their boot animations so unless we can figure a better way to create full HD boot animations without have to use Samsung Theme Designer I guess those using stock based wont have any others. If anyone find a successful alternative let me know. I read up on one for the Note 2 but it didnt work on my phone.

Thanks to frysee for creating the original. See his thread here with versions for other devices as well.
This is a Boot animation, purely COSMETIC! Nothing on the display pertains to what is acuatlly going on under the hood while your device s booting, just something for you to look at and show off to friends

3 Options to install.
First step: Simply rename "Streak_Bios_bootanimation.zip" to "bootanimation.zip"
1. ADB
Navigate to the folder containing "bootanimation.zip" in terminal/command prompt.
Type the following
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
Then to test, set your device so display is in landscape (will not display properly if you have it on portrait and test it but will display fine either way on boot)
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
2. Root Explorer
Copy "bootanimation.zip" to your SD card
On your Streak open up Root Explorer (or any other app that allows you to copy paste to the internal memory)
Copy "bootanimation.zip" and paste it to /Data/Local
3. Terminal Emulator
thanks nickshertzer, his directions are for drop box but can easily be manipulated for simply copying the bootanimation.zip to your SDcard

BTW, if you don't have / want to get out that sync cable for ADB, use dropbox & Terminal Emulator. Make sure you download the .zip using dropbox longpress first before running following command (requires Busybox / can't remember if it is installed default on Steve's ROM)
Code:
su
cp /sdcard/dropbox/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot

---UPDATE Jan. 6, 2011---
Slowed down to 10 FPS and edited the 2nd part which loops until device boots
---UPDATE Jan. 13, 2011---
Changed 2010 to 2011
TRACKBALL replaced with VOLUME UP
Nice work!! Looks very cool! Have to try this out!

Cool tip. Will add to the first post when I get to my pc.
Also for those of you that put this on their steaks, how many times does it say "initializing ...... /" before it actually boots?
I counted 20 till it did the weak vibrate and 2 more times till it showed the lock screen.
nvm, updated it so it now has a slower FPS. Also see my post 2 down from this one.

I counted 11 flashes of "initializing ......... \" during two separate reboots. So I did a battery pull and left it out for 30 seconds and popped it back in and boot. That time I counted... 11 again. White bb US streak running StreakDroid 1.4.6 with StreakMod Recovery.

Why'd you pull the battery? did it stop spinning?
BTW this is just an animation, it has nothing to do with the actuall boot process.
It just loops the second part until the device actually boots.
You should only pull the battery if it stops moving, then you know the device is frozen.
Also since i slowed down the FPS and edited the 2nd part, "Initializing ....." will now stay there and only the "-\|/-\|/" will loop on top of each other.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Sometimes, a soft reboot is a bit quicker than a cold boot. I simply pulled the battery to test cold boot times.
If you really want to watch it spin and spin and spin on "initializing", go into recovery and wipe Dalvik cache!
Very nice work
Used to have this back in the day on my TP2

The thing about a loading bar is how these boot animations are made and ran.
It has 2 folders (well you can make as many as you want) and it basically runs through all the image files in each folder, one after the other, making it animate.
This boot animation has 2 folders. It goes through the images in the first folder once, then the second folder on an infinite loop (till the system boots), hence the rotating astrix after "initializing ....." .
So a loading bar wouldn't work that well.. it would go full, then empty to full again. But what i could do is make a "scrolling" load bar, kind of like the windows xp loading bar.
NiiicE!!!! thank you!

Hey great work! I will try this one soon.
Sidenote: what is the name of the volume bar .png? I could not find it in the framework!
Followed instructions and it worked perfectly... was my first successful adb push! I liked the colors and icons a little bit more on this one for some reason.
Is there a reason the notifications and preferences icons don't have the same color scheme? Aside from that, really enjoy all the icons and colors!

yea... the notifications icon that launcher pro uses for its settings menu is inside the launcher pro app... i will be theme-ing that and a whole lot of other google apps to go with this...
@olieebur the volume bar colors are in framework\res\drawable\progress_horizontal.xml and the .png is named progressbar_indeterminate1, 2, and 3
also this is not perfect.... let me know some bugs you find and i will try to fix it... and as obsessionXYZ adds updates to his theme i will also add his fixes.

Yes... and no... you can but you would have a 90% chance of a boot loop. You see... when copying and pasting with root exeplorer,... root exeplore has a tendency of not setting the same permissions as the file it replaces. So if the permissions are not the same then you will get a boot loop. You can change the permissions manually.... but some times when replacing the framework, the system reboots its self... leaving you unable to change the permissions.

Maybe you can copy both files to, let's say, /system, change their permissions to the right ones, and then do the copy. I usually do that in other devices and it ended successfully. Unfortunately, I don't have my Atrix with me (yet) to test it out. Maybe it works, maybe not. Do it at your own risk, and of course, report back!

-there will be a new boot animation made and customized by kmiller8
-a script will be made... or borrowed to automate the installation process.

Do NOT install this on 1.57. That update is not deodexed yet and you will have issues, and you phone could potentially brick.
I just realized/found out about it being due to the deodexed issue.
Too late to not put this on 1.57 though for me, its there. Haven't noticed any other issues, other than the clock text, but i'm still learning.
Thanks.

The files should be named like so,
Bootanimation = bootanimation.zip
Bootsound = android_audio.mp3
Downanimation = downanimation.zip
Shutdown Sound = android_out.mp3
And they get copied to /data/local, i include a flasher to make copying easier just put all you files in the zip in data/local and flash.
Usage:
Place BootScoot.zip on sdcard
Boot into recovery
Flash zip
Bootanimation Flasher usage:
Put your bootanimation/downanimation in the zip file in data/local, make sure it's named bootanimation.zip or downanimation.zip (replace "Place Files Here")
Put the zip file on your sd
Flash zip
Enjoy...
Use the bootscoot zip once then use bootanimation flasher to change bootanimations.
Notes:
I added the sound by editing /customize/CID/default.xml like so in case you want to add it to your own rom:
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation animation="/data/local/bootanimation.zip" [color="red"]audio="/data/local/android_audio.mp3"[/color] />
</BootConfiguration>
<ShutdownConfiguration>
<ShutdownAnimation image_png="/data/local/downanimation.zip" [color="red"]audio="/data/local/android_out.mp3"[/color] image="" fps="15" />
</ShutdownConfiguration>
Changelog:
V2-Added sound

Worked perfect, ty!
Your welcome it also does downanimations, i forgot to write it in the first post. I just didn't have any to add to the zip.
The great thing about this is there's NO COMPUTER NEEDED. It works quick too. I made a file and loaded some downanimations and bootanimations to select from, so I can just pop in what I want and use it from a small DB of animations.
Thanks for the work man.
Nice making life easier

This isn't working for me. I flashed the portal boot animation and that worked fine. But when I tried flashing the second zip file with animations in the data folder, the downanimation.zip won't work. The boot animation works fine, but when I shut off my phone, it will freeze up on a black screen before it powers off completely.
I've gone in with root explorer and deleted the downanimation.zip file from the data/local directory, and now I'm at least able to turn off my phone without having to pull the battery. Any ideas?
I know it isn't the animation zip file I'm using, because I've tried ones that work as the boot animation, but for whatever reason they don't work as the down animation.

I'm wondering if your using a bootanimation.zip for down animation, if that's true then that might be the problem, if the animation image isn't set for your devices screen size then you might have to change that before flashing. Check in the .zip folder under the text file and see what size they are.
Ok, I think I figured out why it wasn't working. Apparently the desc.txt file was telling it to play infinitely due to the number "0" in the file. What do each of these numbers mean and how to I modify a boot animation to use it as a down animation? I don't need it to loop, just to play once is fine.

I've used a boot for a down just by renaming it and as far as the numbers first line is size last two are frame rate second line on down first number loops 0 being infinitely 1 being once and so on. Second number how many frames to pause before running each time.

i keep getting E:Cant open /tmp/sideload/package.zip (bad)
every time I try to flash new V2 of BootScoot.zip....
any suggestions? I thought it was TWRP, but I rebooted and still getting error.. I will try one more time though just in case.
I got that error with superuser a few time but it worked anyways. I updated twrp and it stopped doing it, i'm not sure if that was the cause or not.

Yeah I have latest 1.02 of TWRP also.. so I am not sure what the hells going on.. Starting to regret even using TWRP.. Might go back to ClockworkMod.. Least it never gave me errors..
Also.. Just tried AGAIN for 4th time after rebooting each time.. Still get Error about opening /tmp/sideload/package.zip
I had already flashed your first BootScoot.zip yesterday... that wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it??? First one went fine..
FIGURED ERROR WHAT /tmp/sideload/package.zip ERROR WAS ALL ABOUT..
Well I figured out how to resolve it.. I renamed the file from BootScoot-V2-signed.zip to BootScoot-signed.zip and it flashed with no problem.. Maybe TWRP doesn't like files with 2 -(hyphens) in them... lol Either way, Got it Goin!! Thanks bro!
FYI: you might wanna change the file name of your upload to BootScootV2-signed.zip or something of that nature.. Just in case others have same problem.
Glad it worked out. Everything loads right now ?
EDIT: I reuploaded the file and fixed it, it wasnt signed properly and i renamed it. It should be all good now.

Easy explanation. Flash the bootscoot zip in recovery and that makes the new directories for your boot/downanimation locations. Then you just take the boots/downs u want, rename them properly, and move them to the location. Make sure the permissions are correct, and thats it. The boot-flasher zip isnt even necessary.

[Boot Animation] BIOS-Style Boot Animation for HP Touchpad CyanogenMod - Feb 23, 2012

I found this wicked boot animation for the Nexus One (From Frysee), and decided I wanted to make one similar for the X10, and then yet again here for the HP TouchPad. So, using those older images as a base, I made a collection of PNG's, and now I have a working BIOS-style boot, made to the HP Touchpad specs running either CyanogenMod 7 Alpha or CyanogenMod 9 Alpha.

Now, there are both flashable and NOT flashable ZIP files - that way, you can choose what you with.
Installation Instructions (for manual install)
Download whichever of the two versions you would like from the manual links below. Rename it to bootanimation.zip
On your TouchPad, copy the file to the /data/local folder (you need a decent explorer-type tool to do this - I use RootExplorer myself)
Long-press on the bootanimation.zip file and choose Permissions.
Set your permissions to Owner: Read, Write, Execute. Group: Read, Execute. Other: Read, Execute. (It should look like a lower-case N).
Now, long-press on that bootanimation.zip you just put there, and choose COPY again.
Browse to your /system/media folder. You might have to mount it read/write - depends on your file browser.
Paste the copy here as well. Don't forget to check your permissions.
Reboot your TouchPad and enjoy the old-schoolness of a BIOS boot.
Installation Instructions (for flashable zip)
Download the zip file of your choice from below. You want one of the ones that's labeled CWM.
Copy it to your SD card somewhere you can find easily.
Reboot your tablet into Clockwork Mod.
Choose 'Install ZIP from SD Card.'
Browse to the downloaded zip file.
Choose it to have it install.
Back out, reboot, and enjoy a BIOS-style boot for the HP Touchpad.

Boot animation updates
February 28, 2012
- Fixed a compression glitch in all four of the ZIP files I host (flashable and non-flashable CM7 and CM9 portrait style) that had them not working properly.
- Awaiting Partition Table information for 32GB and 64GB - need size of partitions of /system, /mnt/sdcard, /data and /cache.
February 23, 2012
- Over 450 downloads now total across the board ! Am happy !
- Fixed the abruptness of parts of the animation - now it should flow a little smoother.
- Adjusted the speed down to 20fps.
- Planning on creating the 32GB versions after recovery from surgery, as well as Landscape versions for 16 and 32GB CM9.
- Need input as to whether to continue supporting and updating for CM7. Please post in the comments below if you wish more updates for the CM7 or if I should just make a 32GB version once and call it good.
January 30, 2012
- Added a link to a user-generated Landscape mode from zagnut103. It is flashable from CWM. I'll be adding my own landscape versions in the near future, as well as 32GB versions (sorry, all of mine are 16's at the moment)
January 21, 2012
- Fixed a missing image change in CM9 (both zips) where it would flash SUCESS for one image, then back to SUCCESS. Thanks again to SyncV2 for pointing that out.
January 20, 2012
- Fixed the spelling issue pointed out by [TSON] and SyncV2.
- Fixed the one image being out of orientation in the CM9 zip's (one of the images was still in portrait orientation, rather than landscape, so it made for a funky looking flicker in the animation).
- Fixed the doo-dad not completing it's third rotation in the CM7 animation.
- Slowed the animations down just a hair more, so that you can see what's going on, and it doesn't finish quite as quickly.
- Fixed the flashable zips to unpack to both /data/local and /system/media - that way, no matter what, it SHOULD work on your Touchpad.
- Big thanks to krook6023 (Forum moderator) for moving this from the Dev forum to this current one.
- 150 downloads in the first 48 hours... DAYUM !!!
January 18, 2012, later that night
- HUGE thanks to Joker Fuel for finding out how to fix the CM9 version to show in Portrait orientation like I originally planned for it to be done.
Would a video of the boot be too much to ask? Sounds awesome and I'd love to see it in action.

Tapatalk (and the XDA app) don't allow you to see images - at least, I haven't been able to find a way to let it load up images for me. But if you load it in a browser, you'll see the sweet animation that I've done for this little addon.
Now, all I gotta figure out is why it shows up as Landscape mode in CM9, and fix it, and I'll be set.

Hey, don't know if uve figured it out yet or not but
U have to rotate all the images counter clock wise. And swap the resolution in desc.txt to 1024 768
This displays the animation correctly.
And thank you isanrap for testing for this solution

In the first post, you mentioned to copy to /data/local for the boot animation for the custom method, the correct way I had to do it for my TP to work with CM7 was rename the file(nothing new here) and place it to /system/media.
Tested both and only the/system/media works for me, just my 2 cents
For some people, /system/media works. For others, it's /data/local. For my phone, it only works in /system/media. For my tablet, it works only in /data/local. It makes no sense.
Time to update my ZIP files to put 'em in both places, just to cover all of my bases.
Thanks for that, Balkar !

No prob, I just tried the zip too and it didn't work for me, then again i bet it's made in a way that it unpacks to /data/local
This is one awesome boot screen.
I had no problems installing this manually with Root Explorer.
"Sucess" is spelled wrong
Works great, but as TSON said, success is spelled wrong.
Have not installed it yet as I am going to wait for cm9 to get a little more stable before I make the jump, but I am curious does this loop or just run though once?
I realise that SUCESS should be SUCCESS but I won't be able to change that until at least tomorrow when I get my PC back from it's diagnostic I am running. So look for an update early next week.
And this only does a single loop - I need to slow it down a bit but it is just the one go-through.
Sent from my HP Touchpad running CyanogenMod 9 alpha0.
No, need to slow down, it's fine in my opinion.

Boot Animations for the Note

I don't see alot of boot animations for the Note, aside from the ICS version. I figured I'd pull some tablet bootanims that look good on our Notes from Rom Toolbox. Since the Rom Toolbox changer doesn't actually work right with our device anyway.
Stating the obvious...you need root using either the DaG or holonote kernel(not the original mashi root, but roloracer method is good) and a file manager with r/w rights enabled.
To install on the AT&T I-717 (I can't be sure of the Rogers, Bell boot anim file name and location)
1) Download the file you want.
2) Make a copy of the file (or use the original if you don't care to keep a named copy) and rename it to sanim.zip.
3) Make sure you're mounted as r/w in your file manager
4) Place the sanim.zip file in /system/media. That's it.
5) Reboot and you should see it.
6) To return to the boot animation you had cooked into your rom or kernel, just delete sanim.zip and reboot.

After I placed the file in \system\media
I renamed it to sanim.zip and the set R/O on the media directory.
Rebooted but still see's the Rethink stupid ATT Globe.
I guess I need a cooked ROM to make this work, was going to hold off a bit on running a rom other then stock for a few more months, and let them get a bit more mature.
Thanks anyways, I will keep this for future use.
I'm on stock ROM and it's working for me. How are you rooted, da_g or mashi?

I believe you have to have a kernel that supports it. I don't think just having root access is enough. That's why I asked which root method he used. He mentioned the fact that he still had the stock boot animation, so that leads me to believe that he used mashi's method and kept the stock kernel. Using da_g or holonote kernel, should resolve his issue as a different boot animation is used there. Hope this helps. I'm still an Android noob, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Any way to change the boot splash screen? (im on sauram)
The Samsung splash screen is actually 2 images. From what I remember, the first one is easy to replace, but the glowing one requires some ADB commands. Not positive of this, but I think so. I'm sure there are threads dedicated to it, search and you will find.

I like the Grey Countdown animation very much~
Hrmm, must be doing something wrong, I am on Holonet kernel but I just see the standard Android word animation, I'm rooted using Da_G's original method running ROM Saurom RC4.
I downloaded the ICS zip someone posted here, mounted system/media with R/W and copied the sanim.zip file into that folder. Just tried the same with the countdown anim from the OP and the same result.
Odd
Worked perfectly, thanks for the boots......
