[Q] **Noob Alert** Having problems rooting phone. - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

To the moderators: If I am 'that guy' that ruins the forum, then please delete my post and ban me from your website via what your mandatory video claims.
Objective(s): To find out what/if anything, I am doing wrong to "root" this phone. 2) What would be the easier method to root the phone?
Reason I am wanting to root: So I can remove the software that I will not use.
Steps I have taken:
I have tried looking at all of the steps and videos on this website but I am having issues with this one in particular. Getting HTC to Step 9 under the unlock Bootloader Ref 9A and 9b found here: It is on the HTC website, forum will not let me post link.
When I submit it to HTC, the popup claims that the sequence is not long enough. This is after I have copy/pasted following the pictures exactly.
I have even tried step 4 of Hasoon's software. It also informs me that the sequence is not long enough.
What am I wanting in a solution:
A layman's explanation on what I am doing wrong, how to fix said mistake, and possible correction to place me on the right path. I will provide any and all information requested, just assume I am a moron who is trying to learn.
Thank you for reading.

No problem man, welcome to the community, first on what os(operating system) are you on, also have you tried to check you copied the unlock code completely, HTC website needs more than the code needs the <<<<unlock token start>>>>>
and
<<<<<<unlock tocken end>>>>
submitted too, probably that's your problem

I am using a fully updated Windows 7 OS. I am retracing my steps as I type this. Thank you again for your prompt response
. I am now getting the response following HTC steps to unlock bootloader: 'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Suggestions?

I also tried Hasoons software again and this is what I am getting:
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed.
Has Verizon place a lock on the phone where I cant get the information?

Thank you again for your reply.
Now, if I unlock it using your "gunlock 3.5" and I am able to unlock the bootloader. Would I be able to root? If so, what method should I use? Again, I am a huge noobish moronic mouthbreather that is just dipping my toes into this world.
However, I am a lawyer by trade and if you are in Louisiana and ever need free legal counsel I would be more than glad to offer it

Well at last, HTC has brought us their method to root HTC Evo 3D & Sensation.. Just register to become a member (dev) and begin rooting your Evo3D. I wanted to show you all what to expect.. and of course there are disclaimers so view screen shots for full details. I have not tried this setup so please give feedback, I do have the phone but it's been rooted by other methods.. just giving fellowship & sharing information. Enjoy!
Go to HTCDev.com to get started.. (This will VOID your warranty, root your phone & give you super human strenghts)
Previous rooting gave phone's the same voided warranty especially servicing in carriers service center, same deal. Revolutionary method also voids warranty so now people have choices.. (Former Sprint Service Mgr)
As informed please give useful feedback if you have used this method so we know where we stand with this and in fact "IF" HTC is helping us out.
Thx to Doomstang for input-

It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty. Please note that unlocking your bootloader does not mean that you will be able to unlock the SIM lock. Unlocking your SIM lock is at the discretion of your operator/carrier and is not part of the bootloader unlocking scope.
Our devices have been designed with our hardware and software specifications in mind and unlocking the bootloader will change the software and may cause unexpected side effects. It is impossible for HTC to ensure the proper functioning of your device after this. In the worst case scenario, it is possible that your device may be physically damaged due to overheating or the behavior of your device might be altered including, but not limited to, hearing aid compatibility (HAC) and specific absorption rate (SAR) values.
Some content on your device may also be invalidated and cannot be accessed any more because of invalid DRM security keys. This includes content that you may have purchased through a 3rd party vendor and through HTC. Furthermore, although you will still be able to receive updates to your device via FOTA (“firmware over the air”), we do not guarantee that updating your device via FOTA will not render your device unusable. Please understand that you will not be able to return your device to the original state and going forward your device may not be held covered under the warranty for all claims resulting from the unlocking of the bootloader. HTC bears no responsibility if your device is no longer usable afterwards.
HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, due to some of our carrier customers concerns, certain models with specific restrictions may not be able to be unlocked. Please refer to our list of supported devices to see if your device is eligible for unlocking the bootloader.
We strongly suggest that you do not unlock the bootloader unless you are confident that you understand the risks involved. This is a technical procedure and the side effects could possibly necessitate repairs to your device not covered under warranty. If you are still interested in unlocking the bootloader, and you understand the consequences both to your device and to your warranty, then you may refer to the following pages where we have provided the unlocking instructions.
If there's an error you will see screen shot below.. with details on what happened.
So maybe I'm confused about what this does ... I went through the process and everything seems to have worked. Bootloader now shows unlocked. I tried to flash a recovery (both clockworkmod and TWRP) and it seems to flash successfully but when I try to run recovery it just reboots the phone after showing the HTC logo for a minute. I was hoping to install the rooted OTA but not sure what to try next...

Godzson is a trusted member on here. Don't think you have to worry about him. Why would someone take all this time to write up a post with pics and the info just to mess with people? Smh....... Alot of the devs in the 3d community who do roms and themes don't even have the damn 3d. Don't start turning this community into **** by questioning people trying to help.

TWRP doesn't work and CWM Is a hit or miss. You should of tried the stock recovery, I think it had one. Wait till a root for the new boot loader I say.
I think the unlocked just gives partial access to the bootloader if I am correct. Your security flag(s-off) is still on.

Why waste your time reposting instructions found on htcdev.com? People want to know what happens after you do the method and how it helps put custom software on your phone.

Because sometimes people want to see the process without having to DO the process....
Why question it? Just don't read through 2 pages or more of posts if it's offensive to you.

On a more serious note, does this method actually allow you to root? Cuz I didn't really see anything on HTC's site, or in your post about rooting. Yet the title states rooting with HTC's unlock method. Just a fyi.

Well sir maybe doing a lil research would benefit the questions. I did assist with 2 threads in Evo3D (screen pics and 3D converting). I placed this for information to the community and for knowledge to those that may want to see what it looks like and have other options of rooting their phone. I do have the device but's its been rooted therefore I havent tried this "Official" method. Would be nice to ask with some manners in XDA you can get suspended, banned, etc for your actions, this is a community to help each other out.
Thanks to all the fellow dev's for the kind words.. to all the noobs with lack of knowledge no worries we're here for you to help out, much love for you.. hey we all started there at one time

this is a joke!
HTC's unlocked bootloader is a joke, it just says "unlocked" but you cannot flash any new recoveries and you get S-ON. Don't try this folks, stay rooted! My 3D is now officially bricked with HTC method, it's not unlocked at all as you can't do anything with it.

The unlock is terrible, I got it to work on my Dad's phone, but I could only get into clockwork once, TWRP doesn't work, and only a manual flash of clockwork seemed to work, I tried to get in with Rom Manager for him so he could do a backup, and it wouldn't go either, and it didn't want to go back in for me manually either, just boots up.
Oh well, I managed to root it and get a rom installed. So we shall see how everything goes.
It's S-ON still, which is complete crap.

4.0.1.5 failed for me too.
I started with CWM 4.0.1.4.
I clicked update recovery in ROM Manager and it said 4.0.1.5 successfully installed after I granted it SU permissions. Had it reboot into recovery from ROM manager and the phone just restarted...so I manually went to recovery via HBoot and it fails to load and restarts the phone. I guess I'll push that 4.0.1.4 back to it now.
so the bootloader gets unlocked but yet it stays S-on? wtf lol ?

Help I keep getting fail boot 2

I'm new to rooting phones I have a Moto Photon 4G. Ido have root access but when i try to boot into Android Recovery i get a message saying fail boot 2 entering RSD mode. So I'm not able to flash any roms to my phone. It's getting frustrating I have used google to find a solution but I'm a NOOB haha so I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Please can anyone help?
Have you unlocked it? Can't do much without unlocking and installing a custom recovery.
If not, start here.
I'm pretty sure it's unlocked but how can I be sure. I used Root check basic and it confirmed I do have root accsess.
Root and unlocking are two separate processes. When you boot the phone, if you're unlocked, it will say unlocked in the upper left on the screen with the red m.

Now click your start menu and type "cmd", right click the cmd program and copy it to your unlock pack directory.
i'm not sure how to copy it.
Open the newly copied cmd.exe and type "fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" WITHOUT THE " " MARKS and replaces the x's with your code that you got from the above step.
The links were helpful but some are outdated or my comp says they contain malware and wont allow me to proceed any further and yes qbking77 has very helpful videos

You need to unlock your phone and flash CWM in order to put a custom rom on it. Rooting it is he easy stuff. If you flash a custom rom 99.5% of the time it is pre rooted so...
I have tried that method with no success. Thanks for your help
You have to use RSD-lite to flash the stock phone rom back onto your phone before you can unlock it.
I did the same thing you did when I first tried to load a custom rom, and many other people here have done the same thing as well, we have all gotten through it. It took me about 5 hours of trying to get everything straightened out, and the next day I was running overclocked CM7 with jokers kernel.

[Q] Bootloader unlocking tutorial?

I have been looking at the following on the XDA site but the instructions are not that great and I am by no means a noob when it comes to root/unlocking android phones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36976137#post36976137
I am wondering after I download SuperCID, install it, and run it. Following the tutorial I am suppost to verify I see super CID and 22222 something from the bootloader. The tutorial said nothing about HOW to get into the bootloader.
I did search googlefoo and figured out how to get into the bootloader. You hold the power button and volume button down as well upon phone startup. This is not in his steps and should be because most people might not know that especially with a screenshot.
Does anyone have a screenshot of what I should or shouldnt see or the steps involved to actually unlock the bootloader. His steps are pretty vague. I have also searched youtube for anything relevant but can't find a decent step by step tutorial with helpful screenshots.
Thanks,

Yes, you get into the bootloader/fastboot by holding volume down button when powering on the phone. Fastboot is then used to verify the SuperCID worked properly (by returning 222222).
The rest of the steps are outlined on htcdev.com. Since you are following the steps on that website, I believe the creator of the Supercid utility didn't feel it necessary or desirable to outline steps steps that are on a different website. The steps on that website should actually be fairly self-explanatory. The steps are provided by HTC, and that website is used to unlock the bootloader for almost all of HTC's phones.

It's supposed to say locked. You haven't unlocked it yet.
Go into bootloader, hit the power button on fastboot.
Now plug it into your computer. Open up a command prompt and run the get cid command. I believe it is "fastboot own getcid" but don't hold me to that.
If it is all twos then go to htcdev and follow their instructions.

Question about unlocking bootloader

Will huawei give any trouble if we unlock the bootloader, does anyone think its worth it? I would like to try cm when it does release and right now I'm thinking of trying the mod to turn on and off swap
Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Turning on and off swap is the main reason I want to unlock the bootloader at the moment. Just haven't had time yet.
Arobase40 said:
If you're talking about commercial and customers side, and for what I know Huawei won't give any kind of supports with unlocked devices.
On the legal side it may depend on your country or region laws for the hardware warranty : Europe is more protective with customers...
So the answer is YES, you may have trouble with Huawei and with unlock devices if you're seeking after any kind of supports. Otherwise you can do what you want as the device is yours...

Yea was wondering about that and if I ever needed any repairs, I ended up doing it anyway everyone here seems to be unlocking anyway

Is there a tool made for this device yet for flashing adb fastboot? I used adb fastboot to unlock my L24 but when trying to flash the recovery.img that is where I hit a wall. I am not to up on adb fastboot besides simple commands for logs and unlocking a bootloader such as this. when I open a comand prompt it doesn't see the img file and give me a fail message. I just thought I would check to see if anyone has made their own tool yet. Thank you for your time.
Arobase40 said:
I may probably misunderstand your post but if you passed the bootloader unlocking process the rest of the procedure should be straightforward...
The "recovery.img file" (could be named differently) should be in your local system folder (Windows or Linux) and not in the phone (so no adb shell command) and make sure you ticked the USB debug mode in the developer panel...
The full procedure is here :

Yes, that was the post I was using as a guide. All the commands worked great to it came to the part where I had to flash recovery in bootloader mode. It wouldn't/couldn't find the destination file. I will just have to read some more and figure this out. Thank you for your reply. I'm almost done, just have to get recovery flashed now and I'll be good to go.
"Chance Favors the Prepared"
Probably 70% chance of having some hassle with warranty with bootloader unlocked, they will also blame any glitches on software or roms you using.
I scenario where phone 100% power dead they likely never look into bootloader or rom status so won't matter .
your region & person dealing with it will make huge difference on the day ...
Arobase40 said:
I still don't understand your actual position and troubles...
- Is your bootloader already unlocked ?
- If yes, so I guess you have already installed the Honor drivers and setup the adb software ???
- Which OS are you using ?
I don't know what you call the destination file, but you simply need to download the recovery file in step 8, and then continue to step 11.
If the downloaded file is "kiwi_twrp_3-21_recovery.img" save it to for example to your C:\temp folder.
When you open the command prompt, simply "cd c:\temp"and change the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp_kiwi.img"with "fastboot flash kiwi_twrp_3-21_recovery.img" or rename the original name to a simpler one, what suite you the best.

I have written different posts about warranty and the fact that manufacturers say you'll be out of warranty if you unlocked or rooted your devices has no chance to be applied according to your local laws. The manufacturers contractual rules has no value if the local laws say differently !

Thank you Sir. That is exactly what I needed. I needed to know where to put the .img TWRP file, the destination, and his to access that file then with the command prompt.
Yes, my bootloader was unlocked successfully and adb had no problems picking up my device. It just couldn't locate the file that I was typing into the command prompt window. A lot of the roles that are out for use have spoiled me and that is all automate because everything is located in the same folder. I need to learn this though.
Thank you again.

Again, thank you. That was all I needed. It worked great once I put the TWRP.img file where it needed to be. I am unlocked, have custom recovery installed and am now rooted.

Question MetroTmo variant

So, am I correct in assuming I’m unable to do anything with this device until I can sim unlock? Seems that’s a requirement for boot loader unlock. I got one of these for cheap cheap because I need an android device with out gapps but I’m thinking that’s not going to work until it’s sim unlocked. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

A couple pages back there is a thread on how to oem unlock without sim unlock. It involves running a debloat script or using adb to get rid of one service. It goes through every step you need to do to unlock.

No problem, it takes almost exactly a week to the hour to get the code. Rest of the guide should be fairly easy to follow too. Just remember if you ever you the MSMTool to get back to stock it relocks your bootloader. You'll need to unlock it again by using the file OP sends you before flashing other nonstock firmwares again

Once you get the code, you can simply use my dummies guide to full rom backup, convert to US OEM (DE2117), and root and has the "oem unlock bypass" command in the guide.
