My friends stock S3 is playing up. It keeps boot looping and I can't manage to get it into recovery because it shuts off before I can do anything.
Any ideas or guidance?

The phone keeps shutting off after seconds of it being turned on. I think it may be a battery problem but I'm not sure.

Try connecting it to the charger and see what it does.

so the battery is 0%. if you can charge it somehow, try entering recovery mode and wipe everything. I doubt, is that a real S3?

Hey dude
Can you get it into download mode?
You could then use Odin to Flash a recovery backup.
Apologies, someone's already suggested this Getting hold of another battery is a good suggestion as previously said.
Good luck
Please hit the thanks icon if I helped
in any way

The phone heats up though.

Try a different charger, cable and or battery (from somewhere).
If none of that works, looks like a warranty issue.
Hold the power button in for like 6 seconds, then try to power it on again.
Failing this, try to get a usb jig
Took it to the service center, its a motherboard issue...

Turn off your phone and wait some minutes to power on again.
After this if your phone gets hot again, try to reboot on recovery and
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik-cache
Fix permissions
If your phone gets hot again, try one app to monitor your processes .
I believe you had one overloading your processor

I noticed my s3 (JB - rooted for a long time) was on 5% battery but i didnt care so i kept on doing my stuff
ofc it had turned off, so when i plugged in the charger nothing happened, no battery logo, no charging LED. after 5-10-15 min still nothing.
so i tried
- booting it up
- recovery mode
- download mode
- took out battery and put it back in
- tested charger with different phone, not broken
no response to all of this!
my s3 was full of apps and running rly rly slow lately, maybe it bricked itself? im panicking right now and dont know what to do, pls help!

no, just now i tried with another battery from my friends s3 and it doesnt work aswell i think the s3 totally bricked on me.
no response to any action i take, could that be in my benefit? like with my official warranty, if they cant even turn it on they wont know that it was rooted right?
Nah if they can't turn it on then they will just wipe and flash bud, I think the service centre is your only option buddy.

Did that.. all in vain.. and also.. when I put it for charging.. the battery icon keeps flickering withiut me even trying to switch the phone on..
Had this issue once. Take out the battery for 5-10 minutes or more, then put it back in and let it charge for a few minutes before you try turning it on. If the screen still flashes, take the battery out longer.
This is why you shouldn't let it discharge all the way.

Or consider that the replacement battery may not be compatible with your phone. Is it an exact OEM replacement?

Are you trying to charge it via your laptop? Why not use wall charger? I am a little bit confused on why you are not using a wall charger.
