While some of our roms have Google Now baked in, is there a way to update it, cuz the Play Store will not let us.

Google Now on ICS
Has anyone successfully gotten Google Now to work on ICS? I see posts about it here and there per the ROM threads but I have not been able to get tapped links to actually open in a browser.

Now was never intended to work in ICS, some dev's hacked the APK and got it to work, other's not so much... and updated to Google Services (mandatory for other apps) broke most implementations of it in ICS. I have not seen a general ICS hack for Google Now that is still functioning.

I thought google now was supposed to just be a kit kat thing? Because that's the only time the launcher will work. Or the only time I've gotten it too.

True, for full integration KK and Launcher3 are required, but several devs hacked the APK way back in the early stages (Now has been around since JB 4.1 or 4.2 I think) to use it like an advanced Google search in ICS, problem is its integrated too heavily with Google Services, which either ICS didn't get or it broke then"old" Now that devs hacked.
Either way, Now was never supported in ICS officially and with the constant changes by Google, devs didn't keep it up and it became a broken relic on the few ICS ROMs that implemented it.

I know there are other threads out there about this subject, but figured I would bring it here to the Razr threads.. Who would like to help me get S Voice working on the Razr? I installed the zip that I got at another thread and it doesn't work 100% yet (likes to hang on stuff...)
I'm still not an experienced Android hacker/coder, but would be willing to help out one if they wanted to take part in this project..
I do have Linux command line experience, run Linux, and have had a few years of webOS hacking So I'm not a total newb to the game lol
Let me know if you would be interested in helping me with this
Thanks,
Patrick
After a few reboots, S Voice is working better. On Board mic has not worked since install though, Bluetooth works fine..

I fixed the issue with the mic not working, seems to be an issue on my end and nothing to do with S Voice.. Only thing left that I can think of before we can call this 100% working, is changing it from launching only stock apps, to the apps that you set as stock (I.E. Google Voice for texting, whatever you have set for calling, etc.)
Certain things like saving alarms and memos and such will not work unless you have the corresponding clock and memo apps from SGS3.
Really its not worth it. Aokp and cm will have jellybean merged within the month more than likely.Google Now does everything s voice does but way better.
I used s voice for a few days and was disappointed. Give it a few weeks and just use Google Now

Do you really think that it isn't worth it? Granted, I've yet to use Google Now, but I really like S Voice.. And I think it would only take minor changes to change the path of the app launched for things like that.

I really think its not worth it at this point. Its more or less just a themed Vlingo with system app access (to sammys system apps).
Wait a few weeks and run Google Now ( or read over this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045). They have GoogleNow running on ICS but i think it has something not working last i checked.
I SHOULD have a modded Svoice that me and some people here at xda worked on when i had my Razr. Worked just fine other than saving alarms and memos. Ill look and see if its still in my dropbox and link here if it is.

The Google Now that they have working is missing voice recognition (something about it being Jelly Bean specific kernel stuff) and that's the only thing keeping me from using it.. The only thing

S Voice also gave me network error. It would be awesome if you have one that actually works.
I've been clinging to my rooted EL29 due to some issues I had when I tried ICS (like having to turn wifi off and back to 'awaken' it everytime I needed it). At least some of these issues may have been because I kept all of my data, via either a NO_DATA build or restoring a Titanium.
One thing I didn't like was that ICS wanted to sign me into to all Google accts weather I wanted it to or not (or automatically signed me up and in, even if I never established or wanted an acct...like Google Plus, etc.). Is there any way around that?
Do most think the upgrade to ICS worthwhile? I understand that some features are missing? Which features or functions are missed?
Thanks!
No caveats to ICS? Privacy issues, missing fetures, functions, etc?

What would be the sense of a newer release having less features? In ICS Google added lots of new and great features.
If you think that it is a privacy issue that you may need a google account for android devices, then don't use an android device.

There are some 'features' that allow access (for rooted phones and the appropriate apps) to system functions that are no longer available in ICS.

Hello,
Google play just stopped working for me on Jelly Beans build 11. Google play says "No Connection" and the retry button doesn't work. My Note 2 is online though; the hotspot and web browsing works fine. I do not know what the problem is with Google play. Can anyone recommend a gapps file for Jelly Beans build 11? or another solution? Is it only me that is having this issue? Or is the gapps that is preinstalled with Jelly Beans build 11 unreliabe?
Thanks
Im on build 10 and I haven't had any problems...Maybe try flashing the rom again?

fixed gapps for Jelly Beans build 11
Ok,
So, it was an app called "Freedom" that was installed on my phone that trashed the Google Play. Clearing the cache for Google Play did not fix the problem. I had to re-flash the the Jelly Beans build 11 ROM to get Google Play back. I do not recommend using the Freedom app.

Interesting. He never made any accusations... just said it stopped working an asked for help. I have the same issue. I've been researching for hours and tried many things. I re-installed it many times and wiped cache. I've tried at least 6 different solutions from different forums and finally found this thread while looking for help. Your reply is really defensive and rude. The issue only happens for me with this ROM so please tell me why it cannot be this ROM and what I should read more.

Correct. I was defending the original poster. Sorry, but my tone does not excuse you. I hate it when some "senior member" steps in to scold someone for asking for help. This is a great forum overall. As a developer I can appreciate protecting the ROM's integrity, but some of you guys have some major ego issues. This person was able to find a solution on their own, but there is still a live issue with this ROM. No, I am not spreading rumors. It is a great ROM and I wish I could use it. Hopefully, someone else will read this and have some good suggestion. After trying everything imaginable and researching for an entire day I gave up and went to Synergy Rom (my 2nd choice). Play Store works for me with that Rom and it has a theme that makes it look like stock. Unfortunately, I cannot post on the actual thread because I am new so I have to look for help on side threads.
There is no synergy rom for the Verizon galaxy note 2......what are you talking about sir? If I see correctly you have an s3. Therefore why are you even posting here? This does not relate to beans rom on the note 2

I'm a new developer (well... new to making ROMs), but have not completed my own yet. It looks like fun though so I'm getting into it.
Currently, I am on a Verizon GSIII and the problem was while using Jelly Beans, but may not be directly with that ROM. Like the original poster I am not using Freedom and have not installed any apps yet.
I tried:
- enabled download manager
- re-installed many times
- cleared all caches
- checked system time
- factory reset
- fix permissions
- no ad-blocking software messing with host file
- logged into Google via browser
- removed and re-added Google Acccount
- good internet connection
- etc. etc.
Switching to Synergy fixed Playstore for me without any other actions, which leads me to believe it was a bug. Since I switched ROMs I cannot do any testing now. However, if I remember correctly since I now have 10 posts I may be allowed to post messages on the Jelly Bean thread. I hope so... then I can communicate directly with that dev and help them debug.
If anyone else has this problem at least they know they are not alone and maybe can post their results.

Beans14 came out last night, just FYI :good:
I had inverted app causing problem. Installed stock play store and boom, up and runnig.
Here is a full system.img dump from the new Nexus 5 that was released yesterday. Droid Life posted the updated Google Apps here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/3...-5-dump-search-launcher-and-more/#more-123662
I have Infected Rom on my Rez and updated some of the apps to the latest versions. Google Home (the new launcher) works great. The new Hangouts is now also your SMS app. Gmail, Google Keyboard (with built in emoji plugin), and Google Play Services also work. Google Gallery FC on me, and the new Camera app works, but the new feature (don't know what it is called) FC'ed when I clicked on it. Camera settings is set for 8m pixels, but when viewed in the old Gallery, the pics weren't full size. The pic quality was great, though.
Throughout the day and weekend, REV3NT3CH and I will be testing more new .apk's and will keep you all informed. This system.img dump also includes the build.prop and the boot.img. We are gonna do our best to get either the Nexus 5 system ported over to the Rez, or build straight from AOSP source.
If any other Devs would like in on this, then please PM either REV3NT3CH or myself, and we can go from there.
I am NOT a Dev myself, still learning a few things, but know enough to do what we need to do. Any questions then feel free to ask, and if this thread is in the wrong section then please let me know, or move it to the right section.
Here is the link to the full system dump:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hty7m61cgy16bcq/Nexus 5 dump.zip
Hope this can help get us started for the Rez.
EDIT: My dropbox links are generating too much traffic. Uploading to Mediafire now. Dropbox links are still working currently, though. Once uploaded to mediafire, I will put the links up. Thanks all!
ANOTHER EDIT: Here is the mediafire link for the system dump and the apps.

Xda is generally quieter during 9-5 on the east coast.
If you guys can port this to the Rezound, that would be awesome. I've got a port of 4.3.1 running on my Rezound and it runs pretty well. I'm not aware of any inherent reason KitKat can't run (except to the extent that Wallet requires NFC) on Rezound hardware.

I tried most of these on tachyon 1.2, just quick apk install no real diagnostics. I found the new Google search seems to close right after opening (no fc just closes).
The launcher seems to work but relies on the search piece which generates errors, it kinda works with both installed, but generally needs a Dev to investigate for our devices.
Email app seems to work, but no exchange services tie to it, compared to my other native email app they appear to point to different setting locations.
Clock wouldn't install
Keyboard, Gmail, hangouts, and keep all seem to be fine. Some of the wallpapers are pretty sweet too

Thanks for the info. I haven't had a chance to test out all the apps. You have to install Google Play Services, Google Search, and Google Home to get the launcher to work properly. Voice search part does FC though, but that is the only issue I have found. I installed Google Now to go with it all, and it is sweet, but Voice Search FC's. I think Email and a few others are gonna have to rely on the new services.jar to get it all working properly. Anyone who knows how to read code better than me hopefully will figure it out. I will post more apps and what is working later on today, hopefully.
Try installing Exchange2Google.apk to get the Exchange to work in the new Email.apk.

Giving some of these apps a try on a clean install of carbon.
I can't get chrome or drive working.

I installed launcher with Google home, prebuilt, and velvet. I haven't tried search yet but am going to do the library tip above.

Hello everyone,
I'm coming from a Galaxy S2 running ICS. When I would click to play a video from the default internet browser, I would get prompted for the video player. I'm assuming that it has something to do with flash compatibility? In any case, I really liked this behavior since I could choose MX player (stream) or Internet (download). This was very handy and I would love to be able to have that functionality on my new device.
I'm now using a Galaxy S4 running KitKat 4.4.2 and it seems that all videos play inline and I can't choose any other apps. Is there a way to get that functionality back?
Thanks for any insight you may have!
Nope. Android killed all flash plug-ins and apps are now made to play videos inline. Not to mention the option to download was breaking alot of rules.

You might be able to get around this by using outdated apks from before they started using the inbuilt browsers but be warned that if you download the videos google has the right to term you account. Other then that there is nothing you can do. Flash has been dead for a long time now.
