[Q] - About to buy one but wanted to ask these things first

Thanks for stopping to read this.
I wanted to know if this has been rooted yet, and also if I can load it up to honeycomb yet?
On a side note does anyone know if the snes and other emulators work well on it?

Hello,
Replacing with the firmware makes the device root. You have multiple to choose from. TNT lite. Vegan Etc..
I have not seen honeycomb firmware yet but the word is that the devs are looking in to in and will be available once it is fully tested.
I have seen the emulators work on the viewsonic so the question to that is YES..
Enjoy..
I think most of us bought this for the hardware knowing that Android developers will eventually bring us everything we want and more. If the tab can't do "it" now I am sure it will soon.

Thanks, it will be here tomorrow. I just needed to find the specs sheet on tiger and was sold. Can't believe it's a 150 dollars off right now, it's less then my cellphone was. Glad it is on sale, it can replace the crappy dual boot viewsonic tablet I got. Wish it had said on the site hey this isn't real android on here.
I was also reading, people say flashing a CFW is simple with the gtablet. Something about how there are no blocks or anything in the way to keep you from doing it which is great. So I will just look around in here for the how to flash unless it's as simple as CWM.
Yep, just CWM! Though, possibly a touch more than normal with a simple phone, like the Droid. You need to repartition it in CWM for best results, then wipe everything, then install the ROM. Depending on the ROM, you most likely will want to install GAPPS after. That's pretty much it! Most of the ROMs come with decent kernels, I've noticed.
Good thread to step through the process.

It is real android, they just their own "layer" on top of it. It is fairly easy to install another Rom on this thing, just make sure you read, understand, and follow the directions carefully.
Once you get it installed, unless you feel comfortable with possibly having to do a bit of work if you "mess it up", I would try not to fool around with it too much. I've installed Vegan-Tab 5.1.1, and a kernel, and it runs fine, so I try to just use it as is...
back it up with nvflash before you start rooting....that will prevent you from bricking your tab. I just got mine last week and its amazing how well it works . I am currently testing our different roms on it to see which one I like the best. Vegan 5.1.1 and TNT Lite 4.4 are pretty nice to start off with.

Always good to backup, I assume as long as you get that even if you totally mess up you can just reflash it and try again. It will be here tomorrow around 11ish, so once I get done at the office going to get a few ciders and attack this thing.

Depending on the package, it will be some of the missing Google stock apps. such as the Market.
One other thing - boot it and set up wireless so you can get any over the air updates before you put a new ROM on.

Thanks mate, I planned to try out the stock first just to see what they did with it.
Oh, one other thing. How is the screen on this? Nice and clear? I only ask cause on the viewpad 10 I bought some months back, well the screen looks awful unless you got it maxed brightness, it just always looks like there is dust on it.

I think it looks really good, as long as you are at the right angle. You probably heard that it has a narrow field of view if you tilt it up or down (while being held in landscape). But, when looking at a decent angle (tilted less than 45 degrees, maybe?) the screen itself is bright and clear.

That sounds about the same for the angles as the viewpad 10. My only problem was that it honestly always looks like a dusty. But I will know for sure in about 3 hours when I am done here. Don't most tablets have issues if you try to tilt them too much one way or another?

EVEN WORSE, there is like 2 pixles that are red. Are they dead or just somehow locked?

[Q]Google Body and CM7

I have been playing with the new honeycomb build that Divine_Madcat posted and love it! (Great work to all of those guys!), however, that means the wife got to see Google Body working on that build and wants it on her nook.
I don't think she is ready to use honeycomb yet, and is currently on CM7, has anyone been able to get Google Body working on CM7? I saw someone at work that could get it to open, but not drill in, but he doesn't remember how, and I can get it to install changing the sdk, but it just FCs when I launch it.
Thanks in advance!
Please, someone respond, someone HELP! need to get this thing on my G2.
and a very BIG THANX in advance
Last time I checked, someone correct me if I'm wrong, the honeycomb build we have access to doesn't have graphics acceleration. Just stick to gingerbread for now and wait.

Yep, it is working great on the Nook running Honeycomb (the wife's runs CM7).
I believe it requires Honeycomb as there may be API's or something its calling that GB doesnt have.
It likely requires fragments, which are new to the Honeycomb framework.

[Q] CM7 without CM7?

So I love CM7, and was using it until recently when I loaded stock back onto it (it's just not a complete phone without the fingerprint scanner/webtop.)
I put on ADW which is the stock dock for CM7. However it's restricted me to 5 screens (boo).
Is there anything else I can do to get that Cyanogen feel without actually loading on Cyanogen again and losing those aforementioned features?

ADW Ex allows you to change the number of screens?
also, the Alien skin is pretty AOSP looking. compared to some of the others at least, it reminds me of Androidian that comes with CM7.
Thanks, although I was hoping not to spend any cash since as soon as CM7 gets those features I'm dumping this for that ROM.
I was also looking for other apps that could mimic some of the functionality, or am I out of luck on that?

well, CM7 got the fingerprint scanner updated in a test build last night. if that's not enough to bring you over, then i'm guessing you'll not see CM7 again for a long time.
check it out: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/9370-rootz-wiki-exclusive-fingerprint-cm7-preview-for-the-atrix/
Sorry, I'll wait until they get webtop working, because right now I can hook into any HDMI TV/monitor and make my friends with iPhones feel like ****.

this made me LOL

Does anyone wish they stayed with 2.6?

My understanding is that once I go to 4.0 I can never go back. Right now my asia retail gsm on 2.6 is working perfectly and I'm loathe to mess up the best phone I've ever had if I'm stuck there forever with no way out!

To each his own but I wont go back to GB after ICS. Maybe you should play with someones phone and see how you like it prior to switching.

Personally I like it. It's super smooth and the few new features are pretty nice. Now I'm looking forward to "real" ROMs that are not broke and can only make it that much better.
It's "go time" for the devs and I can't wait!
My wife is having some issues at the moment with ICS. Im sure we will get them worked out but in the mean ttime she is mad just at the point that we cant go back.

No. I don't wish I had stayed with gingerbread.
While some uses may complain about there not being much difference, there may not be hugely noticeable differences, but under the covers, in less obvious ways, it's worth upgrading

Is any 4.x ROM be compatible with artix's dock?

I have an artix with ginger 2.3.5. I am thinking of upgrading to the 4.x, ics or jellybean.
One problem that I worry about my artix's dock. If I succeed to upgrade it, will the dock be useless?
My question is,, can any 4.x ROM be compatible with artix's dock?
Any suggestion will be appreciated!

I want to do this as well. If anyone know please share the info. I don't care if it's webtop or just tablet version ICS.
Paranoid Android has a hybrid tablet mode where you can chose some apps to display in tablet mode.
I used it for a while with my lapdock, I installed dolphin browser to use in tablet mode with lapsock.
Not great but workable.
I have however switched back to maxblur 5 with Ubuntop as I needed more functionality.

Is "Paranoid Android" a ROM? I am new. Please forgive my uninitiation.
If I install paranoid android into my mb860, and then I connect the cell phone to the dock, can the cell phone's screen project to the dock's screen?

That's the idea.
Short answer: Currently, no.
Webtop/dock requires Blur in order to work, or so the devs say. Since there's no official ICS rom, there's no blur and Webtop. I believe a DEV was able to slap together a standalone Webtop which could go as far as launching from a CM7 Rom, but it was a WIP and was dropped, mostly a proof-of-concept. Also, I don't have a link ready.
Also, mortorola is rumoured to drop Webtop functionality in ICS/JB, so I'm afraid you're out of luck.
Stick to GB if you want dock functionality, I'm afraid.
