[Q] Which ROM (stock like) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there. My gf's S2 just sucks (like Samsung KIES). For example the phone has no GSM connection but you can surf through the Internet, it crashes all of a sudden or it can't send messages although you can call or surf. SO I decided to make her happy and do a little customize on her phone (bye bye Samsung :fingers-crossed.
What I need from you guys is a recommendation on a ROM. I need to root it anyways and also flash a recovery. I want a ROM which is close to a stock ROM but I must run muuuch better (stable and fast would be nice). I don't want something which is totally overloaded like a Viper ROM or Cyanogen. Just as I said. Close to stock please.

No one can tell you what ROM she would like, the only one who can it's you.
Before this thread gets closed, flash Jelly Bean or read some threads on how to make the ROM she's on fully functional.

Hey guys, don't encourage users to post this kind of Q by suggesting ROMs.
Check my first post, do you guys think that all those ROMs you've thrown will suit her needs/likes?
Somebody report this thread.

I just did master! Thread reported.

Nobody can tell you which ROM will work best for you. The best advice is to read the OP of each ROM and see which one will work best for what you need.

[Q] Would you recommend Infusion ROM?

Hi guys, Just got my sgs2 and was looking for a good, stable, rom being close to asop and having little or no samsung bloats helps. Infusion showed up in my search and it seems to have just what I need. I just want to know what people's general experience has been like (trying to look before I leap ). I used darky on the sgs1 which worked quite well for me. I would really appreciate it if you guys can share your experience with infusion rom. and if there are any other rom you can recommend.
Also I currently have my sgs2 rooted with a custom kernel on stuck rom, which for the most part works very and is damn fast and snappy. Do you think having a custom rom would make much difference? Thanks in advance
Yes, it is without a doubt my favourite rom. Very stable, improved my battery life and has everything a custom rom should (deodex, CWM, root etc).
At the end of the day though, try it and see. If you don't like it you can always download your stock rom and flash it back, or even try another custom rom like VillainROM or LightningROM

Question about rooting Galaxy S II

Hi,
I really want to get pure ics on my galaxy s II. Currently i'm on 2.3.4 gingerbread, unrooted.
I have asked a few questions about how to root my phone, and found a pretty straight forward tutorial, that users on xda have said is great to follow:
jayceooi.com/2011/08/04/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s2-with-cf-root-video
Rooting the phone appears to be pretty straight forward using the above tutorial, but finding the correct rom is what im not so sure about.
Users on xda have told me to use:
forum.xda developers.com/show....php?t=1075278 , to find a rom, specifically the ones just above ++++++ [Frankenstein Firmwares] +++++++
The only problem is, how do i know which one to use, i gather its going to be the 4.0.3 roms, but there are so many varients for different countries, which one is for me?
Does it matter which one i choose? Is there differences between them?
*I have previously posted this thread elsewhere, and members have told me to resubmit it here, as I may get more help. I couple of forumers have mentioned that I should use the xwlp4 ROM as it is the latest ICS ROM.
Thanks,
By pure ics do you mean ics without touchwiz etc or do you mean a stock Samsung rom?
The Frankenstein ones on intratechs thread are Samsung based.
If you want pure ics without any of the Samsung bloat cm9 is a great option and is already 4.04
If you want Samsung based then the latest is lp4 I think.

yeah, basically i want my Galaxy S II running ICS with no touchwiz

If this is the case forget all the ROMS in Intratechs section, even the Frankenstein ones as they are all samsung originals with all the samsung apps and touchwiz.
If you are looking for a root / pure ICS option CM9 is a good start with terrific dev support. I've been using it for a while now and it really is rock solid and keeps improving.

ok cool, would that be the equivalent of something like this:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-r...ro-ics-rom-v-1-1-on-galaxy-s2-i9100-best-rom/
Not used that one myself but looks to be closer to the pure ics you are after.
I'd still give cm9 a try. There is a resurrection edition flashable through Odin.
Definitely preferable to the Samsung official ones!

SlimICS might work
You may want to search for Slim ICS... It's another light option.

I currently use this ROM. It has Apex Launcher so no Touchwiz, but it does have Samsung apps.
Although I'm no fan of TW or any of these apps, the ROM itself is great.
Go for HyDrOG3N-ICS with Siyah Kernel Best rom and kernel combo you're going to find out there for PURE ICS and lots of customization. It's stable, fast and really good battery life.

Need to know good ICS for s2

I want to know good ICS (android 4) custom ROM for my galaxy s2. Please tell me if you use fantastic ROM.
Love ICS
I must say that I have really liked the move to ICS. I have found it nice and smooth, and the battery life is great for me.
Although I have been a big user of custom ROMs and kernels in the past, both with the SGS2 and the Tab, in the case of ICS I have not felt the need to move off stock. As per my signature, I currently run stock LPQ with the LPQ CF-root kernel and it is working well for me (other than a cifs problem with my network drive at present). I will move to the Australian (non-carrier) ICS when/if it arrives, and give it a try.
Jacko
PS: I have added the Apex Launcher which I also like very much.
Stop being lazy & try a bunch of ICS roms till you find one you like :-| No excuse for not doing so given how simple/quick it is to flash a rom in CWM & also to backup/restore.
I can recommend CM9 Works perfect
I recommend Koud AOSP 4
I'm on this from now and my internet is faster than its ever been.
For some reason this from doesn't come with a file manager I recommend astro or ES. I got astro.
Haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life.
It does NOT have root but it does have clockworkmod recovery so you can easily go back to your old rom if you made a nandroid backup. You can easily root the ROM with Odin with LP6 kernel from chainfire search chainfire lp6 on xda to download odin3 and LP6 kernel.
The thread has instructions to flash the kernel.
If you don't like using Odin or any similar programs or don't know how to or can't get to a PC right now
I recommend Pure ICS v7.1 or newer if its been updated.
This one is rooted.
Battery life is pretty good.
Its looks almost the same as koud aosp but they do have there differences. I think the other one is faster and more smooth UI. Although pure ICS is still a great ICS copy I used it for weeks before I found koud aosp.

Hello XDA Elites!!
I have been a silent admirer of XDA from past one year. This Forum has helped me a lot and taught me few things about Android devices. I have been using Galaxy S2 from past 10 months or so. But now i ve sold it and bought S3. I am quiet familiar with Kernels, Roms, Mods, Root-unroot, Odin, CWM etc..
I want to know which is the most stable and reliable Jelly Bean Rom? Be it Custom Rom or Official leaked Rom. ( i am not saying perfect coz i know these r not final releases and are just leaks). I am asking this question because i read almost 30-40 pages of Faryab's Jelly Bean Rom thread and 10-20 pages of Revolution HD, CheckRom and WanamLite Rom And i also tried searching threads with my question But i did not find clear cut answer to my Question.
JellyBean Roms i ve tried so Far : Revolution HD 9.5. i wiped everything data/cache/dalvik. and also run Rom cleaner. But this rom was too laagy for me. Keyboard was not working neither default nor smart keyboard pro. nd dialer was also v laggy. So i didnot try any Rom again. I have limited Bandwidth and Speed. I have a holiday tomorrow and have spare 2-3 hours.
Please suggest me a Jelly Bean Rom which i can Flash be it Custom or Leaked Official ( i cant flash again for a month or so). Right now i am on WanamLite XXBLG9 v2.2
Thank you for your patience

Like the guy above me, they're not allowed, these types of thread (I think..)..
But I'll help you.
At best, you get a JB ROM with AROMA installer, which is based on SAMMY firmware code..
That way you'll get an ANDROID device, which will REVOLUTIONize your life! Not to mention, I love games in HD
Hope I could help!!
best ROM thread will be ignored ~
Come back to xda again in a month and start flashing to find your best rom.

You don't, you have to ask a mod..
Closed, it states in the "READ FIRST" sticky that these threads are unwelcome, as there really is no such thing as a "best" rom of any kind.

[Q] help with installing rom

i just bought a galaxy s3 l9300
android version 4.1.1 omega v31-xdLj4

This should help get you started

***Roll-Up Sticky Thread*** Stickies found here!
Omega is a custom ROM.If you want a stock ROM you will need to flash one via Odin so let us know where your from.If you want you can update Omega instead.
Custom ROMs give you more options and more mods/themes etc. than stock ROMs also.

im just a little mad about Omega's rom speed its annoying
as i saw its abut 800 mg size and its too much i think and may be thats because it is slow
i just find a link "Guide to Install HyperLight ROM on Samsung Galaxy S3 l9300" its just 187.09 mg
whats your idea guys?
im a lil confused
please help me out
AOSP based ROMs take much less space than Samsung based ones, has nothing to do with speed
