Can anyone help me how permanently kill Media Process (android.process.media) ?
It is always running in background and have a Download Service as shown in attachment. After killing it manually, it begins running again automatically.

Create a "DCIM" and "cache" folder in your external SD.
Navigate to DCIM folder located in your internal SD, move all files to the external SD's DCIM folder (cache folder files go in your external cache folder).
So now you've got 2 DCIM folders, go to camera and set your External SD as a default storage.
Reboot.

Tnx. But which files should I move to external SD's cache folder?
How can i set External SD as a default storage for camera?
Camera settings.
The idea is to leave the internal DCIM folder EMPTY.

I test it and this process is still running after reboot. Your issue is just for killing "MediaScanner" service which is one of media process services. My problem is for "DownloadService" service of Media process.
Disable locations then (maps & google now).

I disabled location too but it was still running after reboot.
Then I cleared data&cache of media storage, gallery and download manager. Now It's OK and it is killed after reboot

hi eshan453.. I have been facing the same problem for months.. tried your suggestions but didn't work here (after I cleaned data for media storage, gallery and download manager, media process disappeared from running apps.. but after reboot I see it there again! )
are you sure you don't have it anymore in running apps after some reboots?
thanks in advance!

Try to clear Data&Cache of Gmail, Google Apps, Checkin Service, Google Talk, Market and Google Play too.
Be careful that after reboot a media process with media scanner service is running and It's normal because it will end automatically after a few minutes from rebooting. But my problem was media process with download service which was permanently running after reboot.
yes I did know that, and I am sure the process running was downloadservice, not mediascanner..
btw after some researchs it seems I fixed the problem and got rid of media download service always running deleting mediauploader.apk from my gapps package before installing it...!
EDIT: media downloadservice is back again so it was not related to mediauploader... what the hell can be that??
it seems to me it appeared after running gmail for the first time.. but I will have to confirm that after some more investigations..
it's either Samsung apps, locations or your gallery.
Got TiBu? Freeze both SamApps & gallery upon reboot, see what happens.
Disable fast dormancy while you're solving this.

google pointed me this thread.. I have a different phone, but anyway I have the same problem reported in the first post by a samsung user.. so why I shouldn't post here?
actually it is the OP that should have opened the thread somewhere else (in android general for example, not in the samsung section, as it is a general android problem, not due to samsung apps/phones..)
and to finish.. it is your post that is not so clever and should be reported!!!
what the f*ck.. now you get insulted because you search on google before opening new threads.............!!

this is getting annoying, just flashed lpD from scratch and yet again its happening again, what the hell is downloading here
Use other network monitoring apps like 3g watchdog and check the showing informations is correct.
also you can check with your Network provider, whether this truely happens or not.
Are you allowing google to sync your account? It may be downloading all your apps in the background (Or updating them)
I never tick any of the options after flashing/when setting the phone up...no background downloads

err...why?
Sounds like your Play store updating your apps in the background. Put data or wifi on and open play store, press menu key and go to 'my apps'. If they're downloading click on the 'x' on the top right of the screen to 'stop all'.
You can also check settings --> Data Usage to see whats eating your data, its a feature of ICS
by the way how many apps u got????
what does the built in data usage app reports?? if the problem persists still after a full wipe then it may be (may be) a malware. so if you are sure its not because of sync or some other app then you can try formatting data, system along with your internal sd and external sd from cwm before flashing a new rom.
i agree with everyoen above. it might be google just syncing information
Ok here what happens, when ever I flash a new stock ROM after wipe, right after I log in using google, it start happening.
No its not my apps
As you can see its not play store either.
I checked it multiple times now.
Exact 90MB got downloaded every time.

Ok I'm trying it again, will full wipe, remove sdcard, flash using Odin, lets see what happens
No nothing changed, removed sdcard, full wiped, flash new lpd using Odin.
Right after I sign in though I have UN tick the auto restore option, it started and right nite its at 40 mb, it will stop at 90mb.
I'm assuming something got backup to google and now every time I sign in, it comes back like the contacts.
Is there any way I know what and where its storing the filles.
Does any one know a way to wipe google account from their servers, like the screen shot.
This is wiping some stuff not all, as after signing in, I don't get my last apps or stored passwords anymore but that 90mb still comes.
i just received a low disk space notification and i can not get rid of it. Just yesterday I had about 6gb of free space and today it says that i have 12mb left. i have not installed anything, as a matter of fact, i deleted some apps last night. I received this false notification before and all i did was wipe cache. this time i wiped both cache and dalvik and the issue is still there. any suggestions?

get the app "disk usage"........that is great for seeing what is using up disk space
Use Sdmaid which is available over play store and perform a system cleanup/app.
If youre getting the same error i have, gallery thumbnails are taking an insane amount of space without reason.
I use this app alot and it does wonders.
Hope it helps.

sorry for bumping this but this issue is starting to annoy me. Since my last "Low on space" notification came on, i deleted a few games and that cleared the notification. ever since I have not installed any memory hogging apps then out of no where i get the "low on space" notification again, so i just left it and a couple of days the notification went away. it's happened a few times. Now the notification came back and my phone is acting up. I can not open Gallery, I can not receive SMS because it says no space. Viber force closes....arrrgh it's pissing me off. Not cool because i use this phone for work. I know for a fact that my internal memory should have free space because before the notifications i had 8-9gb of free memory. any suggestions or fixes?
i have had the same problem of missing disk space and used "Storage Analyser"
by LeveloKment, with root permissions it found what DiskUsage,Memory Map & DiskView could not find and that was thousands of logs located in system\data\log i deleted those logs and everything was fixed
this app gave the correct path size unlike the rest that i mentioned i hope that helped

i deleted more files and was able to install Storage Analyzer. It showed a hidden folder containing a lot of thumbnail pictures, so i deleted that folder. In the app it shows i now have 8.48gb but in system settings under storage it says i have 192mb free and i still have the Low Memory notification. 8.48gb is about right because i took the time to look at all the folders on my internal memory.
since i dont know what steps you took i will need you to do the following in order to get more info
i will assume you are rooted:
1. tap on the 3 dots [top right corner]
2. tap on preferences
3. tap on expert options
and the check both boxes [important!!!]
4. tap on the bottom left icon
5. tap on data, let it finish, take a screenshot

7. tap on storage/sdcard0 let it finish take a screenshot
8. also take a screenshot of settings>storage
post the screenshots here

For a quick and pain free method, just factory reset the phone, and run it on a stock firmware if you use a custom firmware.

It's probably used by programs you installed. If you don't care for those programs, try to uninstall them. That will free up some space.

"Others" is just the collection of all not video, not picture and not music files on your sd card.
It could be downloads, backups, system/cache files, app data (e.g. local maps, offline information, etc.), emails, messages, contacts, calendar entries, etc.
So, "Others" gives you nearly no additional information about what it is really.
You should have a closer look at your sd card content with a file explorer, such as ES File Explorer (free app from Google Play store).
Then browse your files.
Some suggestions:
1. Maybe you can remove all unused apps in menu "Settings" > "Applications" first. Some apps need much storage on your sd card - especially those with local/offline data.
2. And check your email/messages. Maybe you can remove all old entries to get more free space on your internal storage.
3. Check your download/browser folder(s). Maybe there is a high internet "cache". In most browsers you can set an option to remove the internet cache.
Good luck !

Please bare with me since I am still learning about android and so my question is, how can I recover my applications from my tablet after I have rooted it. since the stock/original applications takes up 8 gigs of space of my internal memory. I just cannot seem to access/delete those 8 gigs??
I flashed cyanogen 9 to my SGT2.10.1 and it was successful, although I am stuck on trying to recover my applications from the partition internal memory. Of course I have done a variety of steps to recover them and some of the steps I took are:
1. I tried using the spk tool - I really do not know how to use it and I am having a hard time figuring it out
2. Trying to delete and reformat the internal memory - was not successful since it only erased of what I currently had on the rooted and partitioned memory, thus my original/stock application are still within the internal memory.
3. I tried using applications such PC36IMG-AmonRA-3.07-gnm.zip - I changed the name to PC36IMG but flashing it lead to installation fail/aborted
4. I tried recovering them with titanium back up - but the application couldn't see my original/stock applications
5. Also tried using Astro File manager - Same results as TBU
6. Deleting the files from my pc via usb- it does not give me an option to reformat it
Any suggestions? this is the final step that I need to complete to finally enjoy my retarded galaxy tab 2
U can't run system apps from stock ROM on a custom rom . some of them probably can . Titanium backup backs up only user apps like games and stuff unless u say it to do it specifically .
So if u could get the apk of the app u are looking for , try moving it to system/app with permissions rw-r--r-- . Reboot .
If it works , buy me a beer . Or else , well do nothing. !

Everyone keep mentioning "move it to system/app" I really wish I could but I have looked through the folder many times and the 8gig of apps are not showing up. They must be hidden in another folder or partitioned. Another thing I want to add to that statement is I do not even know how to do it? I apologize if I am sounding like a total nub but what is permissions rw-r-r? I do not understand. Please guide me through because I cannot fully enjoy the quality of my device if 8 out 13 gigs is being used up with me having any access and ability to delete them. Pretty please
I also use titanuim back up, and the apps are not showing as well since prior to flashing the rom I never backed it up. I would not just buy u a beer if you could help me out on this but ill buy a KEG! from ebay, amazon, name ur online beer catalogue websites DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Go to data/app. That's where the other apps are stored. And system apps don't occupy 8Gb of space! I believe the /system partition is given only 500 mb of space.!
It must be something else that's taking so much space. If you made Nandroid backups, it will be around 2GB each. Or if you have too many files.
And about the permissions, if you put an app in /system, you will have to set right permissions.
To get an idea of it, just go to system/app and just long press on any app, hit permissions, you should see the permissions like the one in pic.
And you will have to reboot for the changes to apply.

yeh like theother post don't like rom manager. Either way kinda pointless, why do that when the phone/browser used to work fine. Gallery won't even open as it says there's no enough space, that makes no sense as I only have like 20 pics in there, and I've had way way way way more then that before and vids at different points.
dog ate my usb transfer cable, so checking the internal with airdroid and es file.
Ok have about 2GB free on the SD (internal not ext), here's where it's odd, was at Lowes and was trying to check the merv rating of a filter and went to download it and had the same issue as before "download unsuccessful". Used ES File and it downloaded fine. But whats causing the browser to not download, it always did before. I'd rather have that work again and just go into the gallery and open the download folder, vs Scrolling to page -> ES File -> SD -> Download folder each time. And rather not have to use an app when never had to before.
Any ideas? I like to save pics sometimes and send as jokes, or upload, and it was easy to go right into the gallery and send from there. Any ideas what this issue is as I can't find anybody else with it?

Gallery won't even open as it says there's no enough space, that makes no sense as I only have like 20 pics in there, and I've had way way way way more then that before and vids at different points.
dog ate my usb transfer cable, so checking the internal with airdroid and es file.

I have the same problem. Can you give me a little history of your phone? I didn't have any problems till after I bricked my phone. before the brick the ROM worked. Not the only Samsung based ROM that will work with my phone is the new cooked rom by mr. cook.

Not sure what you mean/looking for, but the post right above yours has more info.
Just an i777 that I've always ran Shostock2 and 3 roms on. But stumped as to why browsers won't download anymore, but ES File will. Browsers used to download right into my photo gallery.
I got the gallery to open today, though it did give me glitch twice saying not enough memory and wouldn't open (when I have 2GB free). Seems to open fine now though.
Well mine was working fine with Shostock 3 till I bricked my phone. After I fixed my phone no Samsung Roms will work on my phone. The gallery said memory full deleat photo's or videos. And I can't download anything, or delete any files with file manager. I was wondering why. Did it have to do with me bricking my phone.
Fix: When I have the problem I can reboot into recovery and fix permissions and after I reboot everything works great
