Hello XDA.
I have been having a problem with my phone for almost 3 weeks now. Basically, my phone overheats randomly (possible fire hazard), which I think is caused by the CPU being stuck at max 1200 MHz. Battery also drains very quickly in that moment, running 100% to 0% in approximately 1.5 hours. It's not as hot now after I changed to CM10.1 (previously was on PAC-ROM v22), but it still runs very warm. I was thinking this could be because there was a time when I turned on the LED flash for some time (I think approximately 5 minutes), and I read an article somewhere that turning it on for extended periods of time might cause the internals to melt or malfunction. How big is the possibility of this happening, and what are my options if it is the problem?
The second problem has actually happened a long time ago, but now recurs with the above problem. At that time, I flashed a new ROM (it was a TouchWiz Rom, but I can't remember which) and the external SD card starts acting up. It would randomly gets dismounted, with error messages that either says 'SD card damaged', 'SD card removed', or 'SD card error' (one of those three will pop up randomly). At the time, it returned to normal when I flashed it back to Paranoid. Now, it is happening again. Now I am sure that the problem is not with the card itself since at other times it works just fine. Could this also be another hardware error? I don't think it's a ROM issue since I have tried Paranoid, PAC-ROM, CM, and AOKP, all with the same result.
To rub it in my wounds, both of those problems doesn't happen when the phone is charged, which happens at night or at work, which is the time I'm not reaching my phone to plug in the earphones and blast some music, which is stored on the external SD.
Maybe someone have the same experience, or have some insights to these problems?
We have a saying around here:

I was thinking about that also, but I've been hold off by my own dislike for TouchWiz. Meh...
Anyways, thanks, might try that in a couple of days
Use stock to see if the issue perists.
If it's still there, we could be talking hardware.
if it's not, it's software.

After using stock (XWLSS) for two days, I guess the problem really is software. Phone doesn't overheat anymore, and SD card only undetected some 2 minutes after unplugging the USB/charger. Still strange, but it works. Thanks again gastonw for the advice
Np.
You can try chameleon ROM if you like, no touchwiz there.

A few weeks ago my Evo 3D started to turn off on its own at random times andwon’t turn on until took the battery out. I did some searching around andnoticed that many people are having the same problem. Also, I have noticed thatmany suggestions were that some app is killing the phone. Well after diggingaround in my phone and un-installing all apps, the phone was still doing it. Inthe last few days I accidently shut the phone off by just moving the batterywhile it’s in the phone. After some more messing around, the phone does shutoff when I push the battery away from where it touches the metal prongs on thephone. If anyone else having the same problem can test out my fix, it would begreat.

If you search around, a lot of people did have the same issue you had. Your solution should work and has already been confirmed by others.

that sounds good, but i couldnt find this anywhere.
I guess I should have said "a few" people. I think a loose battery or bad connection can cause random reboots and shutdowns. If you search for those terms you may find some more threads. Here is the one I was thinking of.

i was having the same issue but i read on some posts that the radio was an issue
so i had the old radio on my phone i only flash the newest radio and since then i haven't got no reboots...already a month and my phone is working fine...
My problem is related to ambient temperature. If it is above 90 out it restarts randomly. I go inside and it is fine. This is related to nothing else.
I went to the park with my kids this weekend and had no restarts because it was 70 out. I was at the same park doing the same things a few weeks ago...it restarted every 5 minutes.
After 2 weeks of cool weather, it restarted today because I am wearing black jeans (it was in the pocket) and it is 80 out.
I am going to exchange it AGAIN--I had the same problem with the last one.
I had that problem with my 2nd EVO and they replaced it at the Sprint store. That was a couple days after my 30 days

Im having the same issues. Random reboots every hour on Vaelpak and eternity.
This never happened on my phone before ICS. Any fix for it? This message came up as I was charging in-car. Someone told me he gets the same on VK rom.
edit: sorry, just noticed there's a long thread about it. Scratch this then.

Hi, i just posted a post in a different thread about this problem
Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520528
Try cleaning the USB port on the phone with a tiny brush or something, make sure there is no dirt, and also make sure the pin is aligned correctly in the USB port, mine went like this and I fixed it by tweaking with the USB port. But also have a look at the thread.
Chris.
solution idk if its temporary or no..
I dont know if its temporary or what are the other effects...

This has been happening quite a lot to many of the S2s all around the world from the looks of it. I think Samsung is using some cheap faulty material in their USB ports which is causing them to corrode/fail easily. I've changed mine completely once and had to pay for it since they conveniently categorized it under 'water contact with the phone' which they couldn't cover under warranty and I paid for a complete replacement. 5 months later and its happened again. Absolutely unacceptable. Please write in to Samsung and complain about this.
so, bought a cheap and known "faulty" s3, when i got it it wouldn't get passed the screen below

i eventually managed to get it into download mode (took about 3 hours of pressing the same buttons time after time) and flashed a ROM via odin, after the apparently successful flash the phone reboot, time and time again for around 30 minutes, like the clown i am i removed the battery (i know i know), so now it gets to the carrier logo, then the samsung logo and thats where it stays, it can enter recovery (stock i believe) but the volume buttons do nothing, i cant for the life of me get it into download mode again, should i cut my loses or is there anything else i can try?
Sell it instead of opening multiple posts on the same subject .
not really the same though is it as it now freezes on the samsung screen.
Is it even a real S3?

A coworker had some strange GPS problems. He had bought a used S3. It wasn't obvious at first, even with my real S3 next to it.
A look behind the battery cover showed it's true face, a fake S3.
On youtube there are enough videos that point out fake form real. Have a quick look and know for sure. It could help you find the error.

im 100% positive its genuine (yes i have checked the vids).

I would say, download the rom again and flash it again.
tried a couple now, always gets stuck at the sansung screen
So I've an S6 Edge that was in a case, but accidentally got put on top of the car after the dog park, fell off the roof, and was ran over by another car. Didn't actually realise that until I got home, and couldn't fine the phone. Searched for finding a lost Android phone, went to https://android.com/find and sure enough, the phone was somewhere only 10 minutes away, and seemed to be in a shop close to where I had been driving.
Got the phone, after nice people had handed it in, but also after it had been literally run over by a car, and now looks like

The phone *wasn't* insured, and after calling a few repair shops, not only did they quote €250-300, they also all have the policy of wiping the phone before / during after the repairs (been through this before and it's an absolute PITA).
Nearly worse than that, the phone had Google Cloud Backup turned off, didn't have the Samsung Account connected to the phone, (don't know if the bootloader is locked or unlocked), isn't rooted, and has adb turned off / my machine isn't authenticated to adb to it.
I've tried booting into the bootloader or whatever Samsung's thing is, but no matter what no device shows up on fastboot / adb devices. The devices shows up in Odin, after I do some combination of key presses, but I get no confirmation of anything from the phone.
What I want is, somehow to get the photos on the phone off (specifically the pictures of my puppy who's 6 months, and my niece who's 8 months ), and run a WhatsApp backup to my Google Account, before swapping the sim card to a backup phone.
Here's what the dog (when small, medium and current sized) looks like, and the niece,
I would really, really appreciate the help. I *know* better steps should have been taken when the phone was working, but we are where we are now, and I can only take steps from here. If someone, anyone can get me to being able to access it via adb, there are plenty of apps around which let me control the phone remotely via adb, but how to enable adb from the state it's in? I really, really don't know.
Thanks guys, again, appreciate any help.
Hello,
My phone is with the most updated patch (March 1 2022).
I experience numerous bugs.
For example:
I have 2 shutter buttons on the camera.
The phone gets stuck all of a sudden and takes several minutes to be usable again.
It won't charge anymore... gives "phone's temperature is too low" error. It's 25c outside...
This is my first and last Samsung phone for sure.
In the past I had a Nokia, HTC and OnePlus. All three worked great for about 4 years each.
Samsung lasted less than 6 months. What a f#$&ing joke.

Have you tried flashing stock ROM via Odin or at least just factory resetting the device?

No I have not.
Fortunately the phone is still under warranty so I put it in a repair shop.
But, in the past I had a Nokia, HTC and OnePlus. All three lasted about 4 years.
The Samsung failed after less than half a year.
I will never buy another Samsung phone.
ok
Got the phone back from the lab.
Seems like everything is ok now, including the bugs in the camera app.
I don't think they opened the device. They just did a system update. But "better" than the OTA one.

There is no camera bug. Its a deliberate feature in the camera app to be able to position a floating shutter button where it is easier for you to tap. Its especially useful for those with small fingers. If you go to the camera settings and tap on shooting methods, you will see a toggle for floating shutter button. If its visible already, you can remove it quickly by holding on the floating shutter button and then tapping on the minus ( - ) that pops up next to it.
As for the too cold error, I have never seen that before. The fact its unique to you tells me its not a software issue (or everyone would have it) and its likely a hardware issue with your device. They may have replaced the charging board or a sensor. Bare in mind they are an official repair centre so they will return your phone with no evidence of it being opened. Every repair in the repair centre also involves making sure the phone is updated to the latest update so thats not unusual to see either. I've had them update my phone for a simple screen repair which I was furious about.
sometime factory reset helps
