I know I need some christmas jb kernel but I have no clue where to get it or how to install it.
I have installed other roms using safestrap just not sure about installing this one or even if i am able.
I just need to know if I can install it and what the steps are. ie install jb leak then restart then rom or ?.
Thanks.

Have you read through the post here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133763
The instructions are pretty laid out. As an alternative, there's a handy youtube video that will walk you through the install as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHxb_0oVc74
In the video, there are links in the description that provide you with any files that may need downloaded.
~S

Of course I have read through it how else would I know the requirements.
And the video...you also need the Christmas leak.

Just upgraded to ICS for my Note-Hotspot?

So GB was easy to get hotspot to work by using titanium backup to freeze a seeded app. So what is the trick for ICS?

idk what ics version you have but the easiest way that worked for me was to download FOXFI app from PlayStore and yes it is free, works whether you are rooted or not.
or you can flash the latest ICS leak from link below and he made a hack for tethering.

I just tried to flash the following and it got stuck at the white AT&T boot screen :
CRT-OFF animation for this ROM:
Electron_TetherHack+crt-anim.zip
I had to start over again. I am going to try again. Maybe I messed up the first time.
Don't you do the same thing you do in GB? Delete tetherngmanager.apk or something.

ICS doesn't have that app in it. At least not the ICS Leak UCL5 that I am using.
Another update...
started over. ICS Leak ODIN install went smooth. CWM ODIN install went well. Root flash went well. Installed S-Voice (from same thread as the Tether hack) and it went well. Tried tether hack... stuck again at ATT Rethink Possible screen.
crap.
Well I am going to start over again and do everything except the tether piece since that hack doesn't seem to work for me.
For eclectrons tether app u need to go to settings and hit generic ics then ur good to go bud

Where do I find the settings ? It wasn't on CWM Touch or within the ICS Settings when the phone is booted up.
Am I being punked ?
"Electron_TetherHack+crt-anim.zip" is only made for Deodexed Rom and the reason your phone was stuck in boot screen because the rom that you had was STOCK ODEX ROM. what you should do is First flash the stock rom from the link that i gave you from CWM and then reboot and flash the Electron_TetherHack+crt-anim.zip... and it will work for you.
I am using the rom from the link below plus "Electron_UCLF5_15toggle_blueBatt.zip", "Electron_TetherHack+crt-anim.zip" and it the same Rom that you were using but this one is deodexed - zipaligned - rooted - debloated.... I hope this helps you.

I started wondering if that was it. I was a ROM flashing fiend with my captivate.when I upgraded to the note I stayed stock with root only until I couldn't take out anymore. I need to go back and get myself a refresher course on things.
Thanks however.

1.Does cm10 compatible with siyah kernel?
2.is cm10 now official or beta?
3.can i just use the backup from cwm if i want to restore things after i flash cm10?
4.cm9 or cm10? (Better)
5.if i flash custom rom does it unroot my phone and remove cwm options?

1. Not sure if its been updated... you could ask or check in the respective thread.
2. Official Nightlies just dropped for select devices.. check dev section.
3. Yes
4 Neither.. CM9 based on ICS, CM10 based on JB.. Both are awesome and JB is the newest shiz so... (and actually CM9 may have more features right now)
5. 99% of the time no. Unless you flash a ROM w/ Odin that does not have root or CWM. But- most, if not all, the custom ROMs you find here will have root and CWM. Just look at the ROM features before flashing!

Answer for 1. is YES it's compatible with CM10. Just look at the thread title of siyah kernel.
The rest bit is already answered by Coreym

1. Yes siyah supports cm10. Says so in the title. Always read the change logs for important info
2. It's in beta sort of. They're releasing previews that are quite usable. I'm using it atm. Only annoying bug is the memory leak that can easily be solved by rebooting the phone. 3. Restore only app apks, not phone settings. Restore app data at your own risk.
4. Depends on if you're looking for stability. CM9 is stable but I like JB and I'm going to be sticking with CM10
5. No it doesn't. Flashing a stock rom with stock kernel will unroot it. Custom roms will not

Go to the Original Development section and get CM9 from there. Its good for you to navigate around the site and get comfortable where stuff is. In regards to the bootani, in my experience you change this by modifying /system/media/bootanimation.zip. You can try swapping the new bootanimation.zip with the old bootani.zip and see if that works. But I've never flashed a .zip to change the bootani.. but to be fair its been a long time since I've had any desire to change the bootanimation

Lol.. sorry. Like I said you need to get comfortable with this site and not just ask for links.. if you can't find em sure, but you need to try. You can do it two ways- on your PC: at the XDA home page you'll see 2 search boxes near the top and to the right. The box that says "find your device" ..type your phone in there and choose it when the option comes up. Then scroll down.. bam- OG Dev Forum! Or download the XDA app and find your device that way-
I hope you find it but I'm confident you will

I personally haven't tried it yet, and other custom ROMs generally have it baked in, so assuming you have root and a recovery (CWM, 4Ext, etc), you can have a go of it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224

I have it running on mine, you need to be running the deodexed rooted version of the rom. I had no luck using the gnowhandlebars app. it would say google now installed successfully but it just wouldnt be there. It did work great using Mikey's V7 flashable zip though. I've had zero issues with it since i flashed it.
I am using Google Now on Twisted's latest ICS release. He has a flashable zip file to enable Google Now. It worked for everyone else, but not me. But it still installed just fine with the GNowHandlebars app.

[KERNEL][JB]Safestrap Flashable BootLoop Fix for leak based RoMs

I noticed alot of people having trouble with flashing ROMS based off the Xmas leak 98.72.8 while being updated to the 98.72.16 OTA, so i made some SafeStrap flashable zips that allow you to keep the .16 OTA in stock slot while having a .8 based ROM in another slot.
No need to fastboot the entire leak to flash leak based roms.
Just flash the appropriate zip for whichever slot you are booting.
Use these if you get bootloops with certain ROMs that require you to be on the christmas leak. You can switch back and forth from stock OTA to custom pretty easy.
I only have an xt912 CDMA so thats all i tested on. Any input is welcomed. I will reply when possible.

When are we supposed to flash this?
Before or after flashing the desired ROM?

I actually wrote it all on my RAzR without a computer.
Once it's there it's there. Most ROMS don't rewrite that file. But to Boot your stock slot without a cryptographic error you have to flash the *.16.zip

edit_ will it work for other than my stock. I never use stock. I have roms on slots 1 and 2 they are .16 and my jellywiz i put on slot 3 and flashed the .8 zip. so in order to use either of my .16 slots i need to flash the .16 zip first? am i correct is this going to work since im not dealing with stock. only the safe side.

ya to go from jwiz to a .16 you have to flash the .16.
OK I want to clarify some questions?
I am on 98.72.16 JB if I want to install Jellywiz RLS7 I need to go on Jb 98.72.8.
So (slot 1 clean) install rom + gapps + Patch GSM then install script changes from 16 to 8 and reboot.
if I want after 1-2 days to use another rom installed on slot 2 must do something or just exchange slots ss 3.11?
thanks
with this I would be able to switch from stock .16 to any ROM .8 slot with ease?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
I successfully booted a .8 rom using the zip, but i cannot boot .16 roms without a crypto whatever error, despite the fact that i have flashed the .16 zip multiple times. Any thoughts?

Unable to install any kind of Android 4.4 ROMs

Hello All,
I am currently running PA version 3.99 R2. Previous to that ROM I was running CM11.2.(an. 4.3) I can't for any reason at all get any Android 4.4 ROM to install without there being a failed error in the latest TWRP recovery. This is getting kind of annoying. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could share some insight as to why I can flash ANY ROM before 4.4 with no issues. I have tried CM12, PA 4 (4.4), both fail at the very end of installation. If you need any more info just ask.
Thanks,

You need to install the version of twrp specifically designed for kit kat. Otherwise all kit kat ROMs will fail. Look in the OP of Deck's cm 11 thread.

There is a thread by Captain_Throwback that provides all the information for flashing the new firmware for the new partition layout. It will update you to the new 4.13.651.3 firmware, HBOOT 2.10, and the 2.6.3.1b TWRP. At this stage, you can flash the NEW versions being released for most KK ROMs (AOKP, Carbon, SlimKat, BeanStalk, etc.). Look for "New Layout" or "New Partition Setup" or something in the change logs to be sure.
I suggest going this route. After the firmware update, your partition layout will be changed (so back up everything and be prepared to not go back to any old ROMs without doing a VipeRUU or similar 3.16 downgrade) and you'll be good to go for the new generation of ROMs.

^This. You may be running 2.6.3.0 yes but it has to be the one with SElinux enabled. Flash the recovery in decks thread to be sure.
If you haven't run the RUU to update to 4.3 and change the partitions, you can't run any of the new ROMs that support that format. Be sure to read the OP's carefully for any ROM you are trying to flash.

If you haven't ran the RUU or updated your hboot to 2.10, just flash his recovery and you can still flash 4.3 ROMs too. If you have updated your firmware and hboot to 2.10, you can only use the recovery in Captain_Throwback's thread and flash ROMs that are compatible with the new format.
