I noticed alot of people having trouble with flashing ROMS based off the Xmas leak 98.72.8 while being updated to the 98.72.16 OTA, so i made some SafeStrap flashable zips that allow you to keep the .16 OTA in stock slot while having a .8 based ROM in another slot.
No need to fastboot the entire leak to flash leak based roms.
Just flash the appropriate zip for whichever slot you are booting.
Use these if you get bootloops with certain ROMs that require you to be on the christmas leak. You can switch back and forth from stock OTA to custom pretty easy.
I only have an xt912 CDMA so thats all i tested on. Any input is welcomed. I will reply when possible.

When are we supposed to flash this?
Before or after flashing the desired ROM?

I actually wrote it all on my RAzR without a computer.
Once it's there it's there. Most ROMS don't rewrite that file. But to Boot your stock slot without a cryptographic error you have to flash the *.16.zip

or any other slot for that matter. just figured that out. so i will need both files on my sd. still a great zip
edit_ will it work for other than my stock. I never use stock. I have roms on slots 1 and 2 they are .16 and my jellywiz i put on slot 3 and flashed the .8 zip. so in order to use either of my .16 slots i need to flash the .16 zip first? am i correct is this going to work since im not dealing with stock. only the safe side.

ya to go from jwiz to a .16 you have to flash the .16.
OK I want to clarify some questions?
I am on 98.72.16 JB if I want to install Jellywiz RLS7 I need to go on Jb 98.72.8.
So (slot 1 clean) install rom + gapps + Patch GSM then install script changes from 16 to 8 and reboot.
if I want after 1-2 days to use another rom installed on slot 2 must do something or just exchange slots ss 3.11?
thanks
with this I would be able to switch from stock .16 to any ROM .8 slot with ease?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
I successfully booted a .8 rom using the zip, but i cannot boot .16 roms without a crypto whatever error, despite the fact that i have flashed the .16 zip multiple times. Any thoughts?

You need to have a custom recovery installed like Safestrap 3.11 to get access to the rom slots. When devs say you need to have a clean rom slot they mean you have to make sure theres nothing installed on that slot and that you have wiped everything like the cache, dalvik cache, data and system.
I'm on safe Strap 3.11, and I found that I had better results deleting the Rom Slot and re-creating it when installing a new build of the CM 10.1 based ROM.
When installing ROMs based on the OTA JB Leak, just wiping is fine.

Will this affect restoring backups?
It didn't cause any problems for me. I had the Diabitis JB ROM installed in slot 1, backed it up, deleted the slot, recreated it to install the CM 10.1 unofficial, didn't like it, and then restored my Diabitis back-up right over it with no problems.

A clean rom slot is a rom slot that never had a Rom installed on it, it just was created, wipped (twice for some roms) and then got the rom installed on it.
What is the KEXEC and rom slots? Why i cannot instal CM from recovery without SafeStrap? What is meaning of "This is a KEXEC build and must be installed in SafeStrap rom-slot1."
Ok first kexec is for our droids that can't have a unlocked bootloader. So we have a custom 2nd recovery. That is the only way you can have any but the stock rom. The slots are for if you want more than one rom to try out.

Ok, if I try to instal custom rom with stock recovery it will fail ? When I first experimenting with safestrap and instal carbonrom, i didnt know how this working so SS was disabled and i instal carbon rom to stock rom slot. It works fine. I thought that SS is not necessary because it always has been disabled.
Sorry for my ignorance, I was used to htc...

Ok, are you saying safestrap is disabled because the screen says that when you boot the phone up? That is just the hijack at the beginning telling you it isn't booting into recovery and giving you time to go into recovery if you want(the options at the bottom of the screen.)
Backup what you have now in recovery, then you can wipe and flash in the stock slot.
Exactly that is what the deal is. You are on the right track.

Have you read through the post here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133763
The instructions are pretty laid out. As an alternative, there's a handy youtube video that will walk you through the install as well:

In the video, there are links in the description that provide you with any files that may need downloaded.

Of course I have read through it how else would I know the requirements.
And the video...you also need the Christmas leak.

WHAT IS THIS?I want provide special patches to make possible run any Verizon android JB 4.1.2 ROM for DROID RAZR XT912 on RAZR XT910 without messing up with your cid and change your kernel. Also 98.72.8 stock based ROMS on DROID RAZR XT912 runing 98.72.16 kernel.
What does it means?
In example you can flash any stock based ROM verizon 98.72.16 or leaked 98.72.8 on your RAZR XT910 then install Patch From 98.72.8-16 CDMA to 982.124.14-17 GSM via custom recovery and boot device running original 982.124.14/17 kernel.
CDMA users which miss old 98.72.8 stock based ROMS can flash Patch From 98.72.8 CDMA to 98.72.16 CDMA without changing kernel and boot your DROID RAZR XT912 with 98.72.16 kernel.
Read this:
Some stock based ROMS have build.prop tweaks and init.d tweaks. After patch GSM XT910 users lost this tweaks but not others amazing ROMs features.CDMA DROID RAZR XT912 users can keep tbuild.prop tweaks if have in ROM.
if you want have build.prop modded features just add them manually. For init.d tweaks if have in modded ROM you can open folder system/etc/init.d and look if any of scripts do not init CPU control modules. From kernel to kernel this modules must be recomplied. That is why my installation script remove init.d folder if have in ROM. You also can add init.d folder with all included scripts later after boot your ROM, only remember about cpu control modules which make your phone not bootable if not run original ROM kernel.
Other than this all functions must work 100%

data should work, may be just some personal rom issue. In fact you don't need gsm patch separately, it's include in my patch otherwise rom have problem. If you are about CDMA DROID RAZR then try put original build.prop from your rom jellywiz rls7. Oh, you are GSM LATAM).

So I've figured out that I can root it without a problem. I'm seeing that you can use Razr Blade or ADB. At any rate, i'm trying to figure out if in order to flash CM 10.1, you need to be on stock Firmware. Do I need to be on ICS or Gingerbread (whichever came on Razr) to flash CM 10.1? If so, all the tools that would allow me to do this tell me that one can't go from JB to ICS. Can anyone help out? Also, if i'm correct, you need to first root, then flash. Right? Thanks!

Stock Firmware means anything released by Motorola.
The rough process is simple.
Root
Install Safestrap(safer to use) or BMM(many advanced options)
Download the ROM & Gapps(optinal)
Boot into Recovery
Create A rom-slot
flash your ZIP
Reboot
