Galaxy s4 screen crack in jeans question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I currently have an HTC rezound and after HTC abandoned it after one update never going to get another HTC. I've been reading a lot about this phone and came across audio issues and the amoled screen cracking not the gorilla glass in peoples pockets. Is this phone really that flimsy cause Ill give HTC this they do know how to build tanks of a phone. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and does Verizon replace it.

Android Authority did a drop test with it from ear height, and it barely managed to crack a corner of the screen from direct impact. I would venture to say that you could have this in your back pocket and sit on it, and it wouldn't crack it.
Of course, there always is that one lemon....

This was my concern as well. I just got a stiff case and a warranty so I'm treating it the same as my old GNex. So far it's been fine.

I think those few cases of the amoled breaking on the international forum were lemons.

The way I look at it, depending how it's dropped your phone may or may not break... Just get a good case. As far as the phone, the S4 is the best phone on the market in my opinion.

My screen seems pretty sturdy to me. You're always going to have a few lemons when something new comes out.

Mine didnt make it. I have the s4 on the useless sprint network but at least i get 4g lte. My screen cracked while in my pocket and i had a case on it. everything is working on the phone just got that annoying cracked screen.

I figure if mine cracks, I'll get the replacement and immediately sell it to break even.

Crooked Screen??

Does anybody else have a slightly crooked screen?
My EVO 3D screen is slightly turned clockwise (to the right). Its very slight but noticeable. When i look closely i can tell that the corners aren't lined up with the glass.
On top of that, ive noticed one dead pixel...
I have the $8 a month insurance. Do you think this constitutes bringing it in?

Yes bring it in. Now that you have noticed it, it will continue to bother you. I don't know when you got yours but if you are within your 30 days you can just swap it out. I had this problem and took mine to Sprint store and since I got mine by trading my ns4g for it they wouldn't swap it out. I called Sprint & explained my situation and ended up getting it replaced through tep. They sent me a new phone and that one was worse. Called them back & they sent me another and this one is perfect. If you can live with it and it won't bother you then there is no reason to try, but if you think it will drive you crazy now that you have noticed it, i say take it in. For me once I noticed it on mine it drove me crazy especially on a bright colored screen where it was noticeable.

Lol defend the guy who can't search or just scroll through a few pages of threads to find the answer he's looking for.
So what, we just let the multiple thread creation process continue and not tell them about the other threads that are already created about his exact same issue? Why don't we just get rid of the search function altogether since we aren't required to use it anymore before making a new thread?

Has anyone sent their Galaxy S ii(I777) to Liquipel? I know it's not an option on their list of phones but they still let you send your device. I sent my device on Friday and will receive it back this week, you guys interested in knowing that if it actually works? Ill post up a video of my Galaxy S ii I777 getting ''Wet'' on.

Update! I just posted a video on my Liquipiel-ed Device.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-MQEXOVMok&feature=youtu.be
Looks interesting but since I got my very first dumbphone I never had problems with getting water on it.
It opens up possibilities, but nothing I need at the moment.
Passing it on to my foolish friends though, so thanks for that!
No problem!
So it makes it water resistant but not proof right?

I want see more reviews as its really new. But This is real. And does work. Here is how.
Hydrophobic nanocules are applied via vacuum. Thus coating the outside AND INSIDE from water molecules (which are bigger than the nanocules) thus can't get in and create a conduction.
It is rated itx-7 meaning it is waterproof to up to 30min at 1 meter (3feet) depth... Jeez. So i wanna go swimming with it

Its not meant for warranty purposes.. This is just for anyone that wants to protect their device from water damage.
Im sure it voids the warranty..
*edit* .. I think they are also trying to get in with (somebody.. I forget, but they mentioned it at CES).. so that phones come with the Liquipel protection - which is a great idea but than the suppliers end up losing money because of not having to replace asany phones.. Not sure how it all works but somebody loses potential mula

i played with this stuff at CES this year. It was Fascinating! They used the stuff on a Napkin and had it sitting in a pool of water. When you pushed the napkin around in the water it never got wet and just rolled off (unless you were extremely harsh with it).
Quite impressive to see. You could also see the water interacting with the screen as it splashed against it (showing that its not just a "fake" cover)

Screen defect

Ok so I've got a weird screen imperfection, it's an inch long thin lightening bolt shaped mark near the top center of the screen. It's only really visible with light blacks and greys, (and that's if your really looking for it). It's like after you shake an etch-a-sketch and you can still see a little of the line left over. Anybody else notice anything like this? I paid for this phone outright to keep my data and am unlocked and running cleanrom. I would hate to get a refurb and go through all the trouble of restoring this one and unlocking another. What would you do, live with it or get a refurb?

Welcome to AMOLED screens. Well known issue. Sometimes they are splotches too. Just Google it and you will find matches galore. If you switch it out you could get a worse one or a better one. Hard to say. I've got one tiny mark on mine towards the top middle. My GSIII had 3 huge splotches near the bottom.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
However, for the number of these phones that are out in the world, the percentages are very low that you will see it again.
Return it if it bothers you.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea that was an issue with this display tech. I love this phone so much I was willing to try to ignore it or say hey it makes the phone uniquely mine but I do hate that my phone is a little less perfect lol.
I guess I'm going to stop by Verizon and see what they say, if they offer me a refurb I think I'll just keep what I have. If somehow I can get a new one maybe I'll ask for the grey instead of white this time? Dam, if I do that then the iPhone owners I regularly crap on will be able to talk crap about my less than perfect android LOL.

Best Customer Support call ever!

So, I have my Galaxy Note 2 rooted, my own mods and themes, with CLEANROM ACE 4.7 (updating to 4.8 now)
I JUST got this replacement phone a couple days ago, and I HATE getting a phone that isn not up to par with my standards which are:no blemishes or defects
I got off work and now I keep have signal issues. It is not from the root, or ROM because I factory rest wipe cache, dalvik, and wiped the ROM. So I called Customer Support.
The call ended up being almost an hour (the replacement took 5 minutes to send out)
Turns out the man I was talking to was a big techie.
I told him how I was tired of getting phones with physical defects and he said it's not Verizon's fault they're not in the phone making business, which is true. He told me "you know you've had 34 replacements and you didn't have to pay a thing. We're here to provide excellent customer service. No phone is perfect and if they were, I wouldn't have a job. So you have pretty much tried everything. There is another way you can go and if you want, ROOT your device that way you can be like "screw your software I want my own"
After he said that The call just went on and on. Turned out to be pretty good.
So for those of you that blame Verizon for all of your issues, blame the manufacturer.
Bucket List
101: Have a Verizon representative tell you to root your device : CHECK
102: Have a Verizon representative say Apple monopolizes their phones and will not pay them : CHECK

Verizon likes to send me phones that have physical defects. One time they sent me one with a dented bezel and I wrote on a piece of paper "Learn how to inspect yours phones. I'm disappointed" stuck it under a screen protector and sent it back. Ever since then, samsung is making the bezels out of a different plastic and finish that does NOT crack.

It's going to get scratches and dings unless you wrap it in bubble wrap and never touch it. It's just a phone. There are better things to be obsessed over.
Also, I'm hoping that you don't believe your piece of paper made such an impact that they changed the bezel material.
You have a serious problem if you've needed 34 replacements in your life.
