i did the same thing you can either do a adb push if you have adb set up or find another phone camera pc or anything really that has a micro sd slot that you can connect to pc drag zip there reboot into twrp and your good if you don't have one then i would say adb push is your only option or see if twrp will mount your sd but it didn't for me

Pull the battery or use thr Power Off button in TWRP. Then put your micro Sd card in your laptop and drag and drop the rom. Then put it back in your card and go.
You are supposed to check the MD5sum EVERY SINGLE TIME! If you arent going to check the MD5sum then you don't need to flash any roms to your phone, you can seriously mess up and hard brick your phone.

Usually they will have a fake card in them to keep the slot from getting dust in it. If you truly don't have one you can pick up a USB SD card reader from walmart for cheap. If you want dont want to go that route then ADB would probably be the fastest way of doing it.

A bad rom download hard bricked quite a few VZW S3's when I was using the S3, they may not brick the N2 but they have been known to brick phones.

That's always been my experience also but recall quite a few help threads that started with someone flashing a rom and then the phone hard bricking upon reboot. Every single time in those threads where all that had been done was a simple rom flash the only thing we could come up with was the MD5 was bad and every time it was checked it was bad. If I recall it was only 2 roms doing that and both were AOSP roms. I dont know why but that was always what it was traced back to with those 2 certain roms and no one could figure out why it wasn't simply failing instead of flashing and hard bricking the phone.

We're also going off what they say in the thread. We can't prove that is what did it. I'm trying to be nice, but most of those "oh shhh" panic threads are due to user error.
I've flashed so many ROMs over the years and I never check MD5. I also religiously dirty-flash. I've bricked phones half-asleep (putting my kid to sleep) and recovered them in the morning. It all boils down to the user. I'm not saying for people to be reckless, but blaming not checking an MD5 on a brick is fear-mongering.
If it doesn't flash the first time? Check to see if your recovery has an update. Redownload ROM. Try again. Fail twice? Wasn't meant to be, this is not the ROM you are looking for.

Agreed, as that would be the easiest fix. Worst case scenario for this approach is that you may need to buy a usb reader for micro sd cards.

Very true, I was just going off of my experience in the S3 threads and that was my first true experience with a truly bootloader unlocked phone, even though I had been flashing Motorola phones for years but that isn't the same, and from what me and a couple other people could put together on the S3 forums was that 2 AOSP roms were responsible for the hard bricks.
Like you said though it is very hard to tell if they even flashed the rom. Hell it could be that they were just lying because they were embarrassed. Nonetheless it is still for the best for people to check MD5s especially on radios and recoveries and it doesn't hurt to check it on roms. I check the MD5 of every rom that I flash or that I plan on flashing in the future just because of that happening in the S3 forums when I was helping there.
I had never really thought about them lying about it but that is a definite possibility..... It's still funny that it was one of 2 AOSP roms every time someone claimed to get bricked after only flashing a rom......

Need more info... Are we talking about the manual update from VZW or we talking about a rooted phone trying to flash update a newer radio? If the later are you using a custom ROM?
Weird, she's getting a ton of app force closes after swapping SD cards for a second? Is it possible that your phone wiped out the Move to SD Apps on the SD card? If that's the case, just having her uninstall/reinstall the apps that were moved to the SD card should do it. I did this one accidentally, didn't get any FCs but did get a ton of "application not found."
I don't know why taking out the SD card would cause FCs because technically that's what happens every time you plug your computer into the wall.
If she's rooted - just re-install her rom (without wiping data) - see if that helps.
Gotta love white women. lol

Do they have to match in order to flash a Rom? What's the purpose of the md5 sum?!

The MD5 sum is a type of checksum used to verify a file's integrity. It's a very good thing for them to match on a ROM, however, if they don't and you still flash it you won't brick your device. It probably won't work right either. When flashing a radio, you should always check them because a bad radio can brick your device.
Thanks

md5sum is command line application and has nothing to do with that. It does no good to see what the md5 of something is AFTER it's loaded onto your phone and installed, since by then you already figure out if it worked or not.

That one shouldn't be giving you problems as long as you are NOT using ROM Manager.
I mean this in the nicest way possible but I think you need to do some serious reading up and googling and get yourself well versed in android and HTC devices specifically. It takes some time and dedication but it will save you tons of headaches in the future.

I've never had one completely take a crap on me, but I've had the SDcard become corrupted multiple times. SDcards are based on NAND memory, and NAND isn't even remotely reliable. Cells die in it all the time. It's so unreliable that every NAND device is manufactured with a certain percentage of dead cells, and every NAND device has logic built onto it to manage it's steady rate of failure. Usually the card itself can manage and recover data from a few lost cells, but from time to time it can't. Nothing using NAND memory technology should be considered fail-safe. That would include SDcards, MMC cards, eMMC like that which is built onto the phone, and USB thumb drives.
You can't really prevent an SDcard from going to hell. It happens. Buy ones that carry a warranty is about as good as you can do. Running ultra-low voltages on your device aren't going to help reliability either. No download should cause it to fail though.

OK so basically I'm a moron I saw the enoxys abuse app (I'm sure I spelt that wrong) and without thinking I rooted with it since I won't have my computer working till tomorrow. So being rooted I get the brilliant idea to download goo manager and push a recovery because "it was that simple on my gnex ." So now I have the lovely Verizon warning. I know I fix that with Odin but idk the files to use. Yea I did something dumb because my last two phones were virtually unbrickable. I'm hating myself for not reading but yea can someone please point me to a guide or just tell me what to do? Thank you in advance and feel free to make fun and say I deserve it

No, I dont see how. If you flash something in Odin (which seems like your only option) you rewrite everything on the device (excluding the external sdcard) in accordance with the specifications of the file you are flashing.

Aaaaand that's why you don't flash anything that's not made specifically for your phone, unless you know it's compatible. Sorry for your loss though. Can you get into download mode? Guess it's too late now, if you already sent it back, but I'm sure you tried to Odin back to stock..

Kinda like me I still use my S3 as a backup phone for streaming music on Wi-Fi/hotspot, playing games, hooking it up to my tv, and flashing ROM's when I get an itch, and don't feel like changing my current Note setup. I really like the Galaxy Mod ROM for the S3 mainly because it has Multiwindow, which I can no longer live without!
Sent from my Inverted Beans ROM @ 240 DPI
So, you flashed a Note 2 kernel that is for an Exynos SoC to the SGS3, which is a Qualcomm SoC? I'm not sure why anyone would even think to try this in the first place, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to warn everyone. Also, this is exactly the reason VZW locks the bootloader, because people do things like this and then get warranty replacements.
As for fixing it, you should be able to, but you likely need a USB jig to force it into download mode, then a full Odin tar plus a PIT file so you can re-partition properly.
Exactly what imnuts said. People sending their phones back for warranty replacement due to mistakes THEY made themselves is exactly why verizon is locking bootloaders and why rooting voids your warranty. If people took responsibility for their own actions, the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for the consequences.
Should change the title to I bricked my phone by flashing a kernel that was not made for my phone. The kernel did not brick your phone you did by making a really bad decision.
This thread is bad and you should feel bad, too.

This may be the most ridiculous thread I've seen in a long time. But only the fact instead of paying for his mistake he thinks some how is Samsung responsibly, but how completely ridiculous he was to knowingly flash a note 2 kernel on a s3.
op why do you think there are different sub forums for phones and even carriers. You're probably one of the people who flashed an international ROM too. ...Then sent your hard bricked phone in for warranty

And this is why most people should not be allowed to root and ROM phones....

so you guys get all high and mighty and tell the guy he screwed up. I think he knows. cut the guy some slack. we've all made mistakes flashing. some bigger than others. he knows what he did wrong. no need to be complete jerks. this is why xda sucks now.

Screwing up is forgetting to check the md5 and soft briking. Flashing a kernel made for a different phone ON PURPOSE then, instead of paying for it himself, decides it's somehow Samsung fault. Oh and then posting here like it's the kernels fault is ignorance!

Uh forgetting to check MD5 can be more than just screwing up. Do that with an HTC hboot that is corrupt and no soft brick for you!

Well true and I guess doing it with a radio on my note would be pretty bad to.

Instead of criticizing, just help the person. We all make mistakes. Just find the Odin stock zip of your device. Here's a fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065470

Went to some other settings and wiped out couple of things? Sounds like you have no nandroid backup? If not you will need to download your stock firmware and get your device into download mode and reflash that stock firmware using odin. Your device will be as it was from the factory its very important to read and have a Clear understanding of your device and its firmware all things must line up and match. Do your homework READ READ READ if your not sure what your doing you can pm me.

You don't use odin. That's for Samsung phones.
Is the phone originally an AT&T model?

I realized what I had said about odin after the fact. He has no backup. He could put a rom on his phone on a micro sd and set it up that way but his boot image is old non running and damaged. And he no file to setup from on his internal.

Probably not a good idea to give suggestions if you're unfamiliar with the phone.

After doing a lot of search and trying things i gave up, and went to a local store yesterday where they work with phones and stuff, fix them, root them, sell them, etc etc. Anyway just a couple a minutes ago i contact them and they are working on it, they told me to wait and see, if its not today then tomorrow they will be giving me an answer. I hope everything goes well and they can fix the phone, i had to buy a phone yesterday a motorola rzr hd and i hate this phone, but it was the best that i could find at the moment.
There was another thread of a person who has very similar problem's like yours..
Hope you get it fixed
