Sometimes, when I press power button to turn on my screen, just capacitive buttons turn on, but the screen doesn't. And I do it few times again after it, still nothing, just buttons turn on and off. Only solution is to remove the battery and restart phone that way, which is quite annoying if happens often.. Any solution to this? Thank you.
It happens on my HD2 too. It's related to Wi-Fi - turn it off before pressing power button.

Any other solution? Because turning wifi off every time when I turn off do screen would be a big job- especially if I use phone for chatting and srceen is on-off like every 30 seconds, who would turn wifi on-off so many times...

Hey guys, i noticed when pressing the power button to turn the LCD on, it turns on a second or two after being pressed. Is there any way to make it turn on instantly when you press the power button? Its kind of annoying to me since im used to all my other phones turning on right away when being pressed.
It's probably due to the fact that your phone is exiting deep sleep.

@op's post i have noticed it too, with s-voice disabled on double pressing the home key ; @demonor, that is true but lighting up the screen using the home is faster than the power key even if it isn't already in deep sleep.
just try doing it over and over again, lighting the screen up is instantaneous as compared to about almost a second after when you use the power button to light the screen up.
same here... it's really annoying... thought i'm the only one..

Try turn off wave effect, it should help.
I have had some instances recently where upon powering down, it starts off as normal (powering down message) but then the unit stays in a semi-off mode. I notice this because I walk by later and see a faint bluish tint on the screen indicating it's still on, just appears to be sleeping. Hitting the N button does nothing. I need to press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to get it to go completely off.
ideas?
Is WiFi turned off before you power down? I saw this once and WiFi was on when I powered down. It never happens to me with WiFi turned off.
You really should state what ROM you're using whenever you ask a question. I used to have this problem when I was using cm7 when I'd leave the wifi on when turning the screen off.

It's CM7
It is a weird problem. Not a killing one, but still it's absurd.
How would I know that my phone is sleeping (standby) or completely shut down (off)?
You may say, just press the power button on backside. But if I do that, that's going to turn on the phone anyway if it was off.
I want to know without turning the phone on whether the phone is actually off or not.
Any idea guys? Any way to find out?

When you press shortly on the power botton- if the phone is sleeping the screen will turn on to the lock screen, if the phone is off it will turn on to the red M initial screen.
That is a really weird question, why should you ask it? if you turned your phone off it is off, if you just turned the screen off it is asleep (shhhh, don't disturb him :silly: )
:cyclops:
I don't want to disturb him, that's what I want.

If the phone was sleeping, I would know as it will show lock screen when I press the power button. But if it was off and I press the power button, it will turn on the phone. And I don't want that. I just want to know whether the phone is off, and if it is off I don't want to disturb him.
In other phones, they have separate unlock button, here it is combined with power. That's the problem. But moto could have made long press for turn on and short press for unlock. I think there is no solution to my problem. :crying: Thanks anyways.

Call your number?
Plug in the headset and press the headset button?
Plug in the charger?
Pair it with wifi/bluetooth and see if connection is alive from paired device?
I'm sure there are hundreds of other creative ways to find out whether the phone is off or on standby without pressing the power button.

I know what you mean, like in the Nokia 700 (or any symbian phones), there are two seperate buttons, where the lock button does not switch on the phone, but instead the power button does. I know some Android devices need a long press to switch on, while a short press does nothing while off, but Motorola doesn't use this "feature".

If you use a CM based rom you can set the volume rocker to wake the phone. If you use a blur based rom you can install an app from the play that does the same.
:cyclops:
Thanks!

Thanks Moonshield, that was what I wanted!
what is asleep mode?
i only know 3 situations:
1. powered on - locked (screen is off)
2. powered on - unlocked (screen is on)
3. powered off.

Or how about wake up with volume and that would fix everything its easy and takes 2 seconds to do.

Or use light flow app and turn on a led indicator for phone signal.

Anyone else have this issue? When I short press the power button to turn off the screen, it sometimes looks like it's going to turn the screen off then turns back on to the lock screen.
This has caused me all kinds of pocket dialing / pocket shortcut making / pocket emailling issues.
I THINK this issue might be caused by the Screebl app (app that keeps screen on when being held) since I can't replicate it with it off. I really would like to use it though because it's a really useful app. Any suggestions?
I can't half press my power button. It just turns off when I apply little pressure
Must be an isolated issue

It's not a half press. It's a short press (vs long press - which would bring up the power menu to shut down, restart, etc). It turns the screen off, then it blinks back on to the lock screen, but seemingly only when Screebl is enabled. Might just have to drop that app, but I'd rather not because it's damn useful.

Your last paragraph seems as if you've already isolated the problem. Unfortunately, I think you know your only choice. I'd consider contacting the creator of the app.

If i do a very quick short press with netflix open it brings me to the lock screen. no big deal
Hey, I just wanted to confirm that this is not just isolated to your phone. I have had this issue with two phones so far, a Samsung Vibrant and an HTC One S. I've been looking for an answer as well, but so far turning off Screebl has been the only solution. Sucks because I love Screebl.
So I opened an app then the phone got really not slow but it would load like every 10 seconds. I tapped the homescreen and the display just turned off and the buttons are lit but the screen display isn't. When I press the button on the top it wont come on if I hold the top button the capacitive touch buttons flash. I started charging it but then took it off the charger hoping it would die. So now the buttons are lit and it has the orange charging light on but its not charging and the display isn't on and not working and I don't know what to do please help
Hold the power and both volume buttons.... You will see your lights flash again , theyll flash like 12 times or so and then totally shut off. This is a forced shut down. Then just try to press the power button and turn it back on like normal.
