Help: sgs3 won't boot up. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently purchased an s3 from someone but i'm having trouble with it.
I can only go into download mode and the bootscreen. Brought it to a repair centre and the verdict was that the phone has been rooted by the previous owner so warranty voided. Could be sent to samsung but it would cost me money.
Been reading certain posts here tried everything but still no luck.
Keep getting no partition. Partition unsuccesfull.
My s3 is not fully sds but half.
Kies won't recognize him and trying to install roms no such luck.
I just want to throw my phone away right about now.
The service at samsung is very ****ty pardon my saying so.

Half SDS or full SDS both mean u will be replacing the motherboard to fix it as there is no other way and throwing the phone away would cost more than the replace

Maybe so but then it wouldn't be my problem anymore.
So pissed off at this moment. Never had this problem with iphone service centre. I love my samsung but starting to wander if i would step over to htc or sony

did you try flashing rom by checking re-partition in odin?

Sending back bricked vibrant

hi so i had a replacement vibrant with the hardware keys disabled. but somehow i bricked it and i cant get back in to download mode. now its stuck on the computer icon and the phone icon. i had vibrant hybrid rom installed in there. and rooted. i called tmobile and said i was trying to copy something from my computer to the phone and it just rebooted and that screen came up. they are sending me another one. i mean the only way to get back in is to reflash it with odin right. thats what they will have to do. and if they do that i should be good because it wont be rooted anymore. what do yall think?
I dont think its bricked, try other methods. But hey a replacement is always better

i have tried everything. and i also read that there is no way of getting the new vibrants in download mode once your stuck on this particular screen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8084460
Try that

Be careful. If they find out that you were messing with the phone's ROM, they might charge you a restocking fee of $400. Because technically you voided your warranty by rooting it. Trust me I know I work for T-mobile.

[Q] What happened to my screen and what can I do to fix it?

Hi XDA people,
I bought my Galaxy S3 2 weeks ago and I discovered this morning a crack on the left side of the screen.
It's small, but quite annoying when you spend more than 500 euros in something like this.
I have attached a picture of the crack.
I've never had a crack like that on a phone before (my 2 years old HTC Desire screen is perfect and has been through a lot...).
It looks weird to me as there's no impact. I don't know where this is from.
It never felt or hit anything.
If anybody here has an idea about what caused this, I'm interested. I suspect a defect.
Next question is: what can I do?
I'm using JB already so my warranty is probably void.
Is there a way to make sure the crack won't get bigger?
Thank you for your help.
You're warranty is not void, flash the original stock Rom with Odin. Before that use triangle away to rest flash counter. After the flash check that your flash counter is at 0.
And send the phone to warranty. Wait for and confirmation from someone more experienced. But this is how I sent my old note to repair center.

Some of Galaxy S3 is cheaply made.
Exactly, but make sure use STOCK rom preferably for your country and use Triangle away (id recommend uninstalling it afterwards) ..Good luck!
Thanks for your replies.
I will restore to stock ROM and reset the flash counter.
If I send it to a repair center, will they fix it for free?
Rooted or not rooted has nothing to do with the cracked. Most probably Sammy going to blame on your careless. Good luck though.

Take it back to where you got it and they should fix for free or give you another new one

[Q] Why won't my Samsung Galaxy s3 work??? I haven't touched it!

Arrrggg my beloved Galaxy S3 is completely broke....
It is still under warranty however the screen has a small crack at the bottom (been there for months and doesn't effect phone) so my network said the warranty is now void...
I was using my phone, i put it down for a minute, when i picked it back up the Splash screen was on, and the phone wasn't doing anything!
I haven't messed with the phone and never even considered rooting it, i have no knowledge of this stuff!
What do i do??? I can get it into download mode, however, that's as far as it goes, it won't actually connect to the computer, the computer recognises it and makes the connection sound but it doesn't do anything. I've downloaded Kies and re-downloaded the samsung usb drivers, but still nothing? Only the battery charging sign comes on, but it freezes at the battery logo.... When i press volume up, home button and power button, it will load the splash screen, then thats it, it freezes on that... What could the problem be??? What can i do?
download Odin and flash a stock firmware for your region from sammobile, you may need to do a factory reset after. this should bring the phone back to life.
Also a track usually does not void warranty, I had one on my s2 and it went back 3 times no problem

Thank you for your reply.. Do you have the link for the sammobile for o2 uk? I've been looking all over the site for the last week but can't seem to find it!
I have sent it off for repairs, but o2 sent it back to me and said they won't fix it because there is a crack therefore warranty is void now.. So i'm stuck! I was hoping to keep all files on my phone as i lost my dad last week and had loads of pictures of him from a few weeks ago that mean the world to me.. But my phone has been broke for 4 weeks now so i'm pulling my hair out, if need be i will do whatever it takes just to get my phone going again..
I'm a complete noob so please bare with! I've done so much internet research and not really understanding flash and firmware etc.. I have downloaded Odin3 though

[Q] SGS3 Suddenly Died... What happened??

Hi there Folks....
My SGS3 Pebble Blue suddenly went dead. I leave my phone overnight with 17% battery charge, I dont remember well if the wifi was on, but in the morning it was completely dead, no button respond at all. Thinking that the battery has been emptied, i plug in the charger, but the phone doesnt respond, not even the LED nor the battery display that is charging. So, I leave it on the charger for a couple of hours, like 3 or 4 hours but still its dead.
My SGS3 is running at Omega ROM v34, everything is working fine before the incident, no lags, no system crashes. It is made in vietnam and I got it from a local network provider in Phillippines.
What can i possibly do to revive my SGS3? I could not send it to Samsung for warranty because, first it is running in custom firmware, next is warranty is completely void because i have already replaced my LCD Screen last month. I dropped my phone and the Screen was damaged so I ordered a screen replacement and I myself replaced the damaged screen.
Please help, I have no idea what happened....
Sounds like the S3 "Sudden Death" issue that was in the media some days ago (so the chance is high that it is a physical defect and you can't do much against it...).
Try a google "Galaxy S3 Sudden Death" search and you should get tons of informations about the issue. As far as i know Samsung Support repairs/replaces damaged devices without trouble.
Looks like they replace the mainboard on those damaged devices. Some people are saying that it might be some sort of planned obsolescence that kicks in to early.
That would also explain why Samsung is not talking about those issues at all and repairing/replacing damaged devices without further asking.

Read the Sudden Death Thread first .

Also post this in the s3 philippines thread. I been monitoring when this thing will start manifesting on our shores. You're the first one from philippines that reported this problem here or that I have read.

Unfortunately my S3 died on me as well on the eve of new year!
I'm waiting for the holidays to be over so I can send it to the Samsung service center.
Hopefully, they will cover the repairs with the warranty and they will not notice that my phone is rooted and running on custom software..

Does it mean that my mobo died even if I can still boot in download mode?
Thank you!

Yes... To double check... Go to download mode and see whether brand name ''i9300''is there... If no, pit partition messed up... Confirm motherboard dead..

Have sent in the unit yesterday to the service center. They have checked the download mode and asked me if I did some rooting and I said no.
From the download mode they cannot see the product name but there is no custom binary download numbers too so they said it is covered by warranty and just this morning, I called them up to follow up and they said they already ordered a new motherboard. I asked again if there are no problems with regards to the warranty and they have confirmed that it is indeed covered. Hopefully, in a week I'll get the repaired unit

Soft Bricked

Hello Xda I've soft bricked my S3 I can access download mode.
I got into this problem cause I flashed Supernexus it worked fine for a few days. Until I went into bootloop and couldn't do anything I couldn't access recovery so I just flashed the stock rom and now the phone only boots into download mode and can be viewed by odin also it says on the phone please connect to kies in recovery. I done this put the phone doesn't get recognised any ideas and help will be appreciated

if you can't access recovery after reflashing a stock ROM, send it to service
and ask for help in the help section, not here
They won't help because its rooted and stuff also i have a slight crack so sending it into service will cost me like 200$ to repair
What build are you using? Looks like I'm moving away from that ROM 0.o

yeah, the other option is to throw the phone away. your call.
or you can also be doing something wrong.
or you can hope for me to be wrong.
i've been searching around an they calling this the ''sudden death syndrome'' and can happen at any time to a select few all you have to do is send it into service and get it repaired for free but i can't because i've got a slight hairline crack so my warranty is void and they are asking for around £150 for repairing this phone
You have a software problem not hardware. The crack has nothing to do with that. I had a crack on my S1 but sent it to service for new USB port - no problems.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I've rang them again after you said this and said sorry we can't do anything until u repair the screen by us or yourself. Also they said we can't guarantee that the problem I got was not from my crack so they said no to repairing for free they asking for 135£ to repair the crack
Then they'll replace the motherboard for free
