Recently my touch screen has not been working so well. The bottom 1/4"-1/2" works sporadically and sometimes it goes crazy acting like I'm touching different parts on the screen rapidly when I'm not touching the screen at all. I don't know if this is a hardware or a software issue. Anyone have an idea?
Specs:
CM10
Baseband 1.12.1.1119
Kernel : 3.0.51-geb1844c
Did you update the touch screen? It is in Captain Throwback's thread with radios and stuff. I'm not sure if CM10 supports it, but you need to be on a rom that is based off the newest build. Otherwise the update will make your touch screen inoperable and have to go into bootloader/adb to flash a supported rom.
I have noticed that my capacitive buttons are less consistent on the Sense 5 rom. Maybe it is just me, I'm not sure.

I did the 3.15.651.16 update, but not the 3.16.651.3 because all my software was a little older.

I am having the EXACT same problems as described in OP. I have updated the touch screen via Captain Throwback's thread. I am currently running 3.16.651.3 with Mean Bean. I have tried Stock with Goodies also but the problem persists. Over the weekend I unrooted the phone just to see and I noticed that the touch screen was back to normal. I am running out of thoughts on this one. Sprint has offered to replace my phone but I hate to do that if there is nothing wrong with it until I root again.
The touch screen issue started before I did the firmware update. Everything I did was right when root, unlocked bootload and s-off became available a year ago. Then the issues started and I updated the firmware to 3.15, which didn't change anything.

My issues started recently, I have been upgraded for some time now. I am starting to wonder if it is a rogue app update or something else along those lines.
If you are having sporadic issues with the touchscreen not working, particularly if it doesn't work if you touch it in a certain spot, the issue isn't with your touch panel driver. The issue is most likely the touchscreen itself

I rooted my phone about two months ago and didnt have any problems at all. Used HTC's website and loaded cleanrom reborn 1.1 and the kernel that came with it is 2.6.35.13-g277012f
Recently, about a week or two ago, I noticed the camera starting to fail. It occasionally wouldnt load in 2D mode, just give me a black screen. Now, it rarely loads at all. Either the whole screen is black or it brings up the camera app (stock, instagram, fb, all the same) but the part of the screen that would show the picture is black. When I turn it to 3D mode the screen freezes, then flickers, and quickly closes to the home screen and still flickers for about 3 seconds then is fine.
My questions are this, could this be caused due to needing an update, a new ROM or new hardware? Also what do you all recommend as far as the best ROM for taking pictures?
And on an unrelated note, does anyone know a good ROM that supports 4G hotspot instead of it just automatically switching to 3G??
Thanks
As for the camera failing sorry to here that but you can down load the amaze camera from the dev section and they have all different version of it and its for both CDMA and gsm

That sounds like a software issue.. Might be the rom or the kernel.
Are you on ics?

My camera just started acting up also, I went ahead and wiped everything and installed bone stock rom (rooted only) and camera is still messed up.
When I use the main camera it works fine, when I switch to front facing camera - it stays on the main camera and just inverts the image
Is this a hardware or software issue? I am guessing it is the hardware
Let me know what you guys think.

If am S-off would I have to re-root if I tried that?
Yup. Running an ruu removes root. Just don't run the hboot1.5 ruu if your on hboot1.4. It will save you a headache.

I would reflash the rom before ruuing

Nah. Just run the ruu. Make sure your battery is over 85% imo things go a lot smoother.

I really do appreciate the replies, but not sure I am willing to run the RUU and re-root since it is a pretty high likelihood that it is a hardware failure since I went back to completely 100% stock (only rooted) ROM. Torn on getting a replacement and having to deal with the Hboot 1.5 mess just so I can use the face unlock feature in ICS or stick with what I have an no FFC.
Hi,
I have been having a having an issue with my Evo3D since I got this replacement phone and I am trying to figure out if it is the phone or the software/firmware.
Simply put,
when the phone's screen is off (asleep and locked), sometimes when I press the power key to wake it up and then swipe to unlock, about a second later, the screen goes black, then I get the HTC splash screen, ie it does a full reboot;
at other times, the phone will be in my hip case or in my pocket, I won't touch it or do anything to it and the thing will reset itself, I am fairly sure this occurs when it is scanning for a tower or when it is changing to/from roaming as this occurred mainly while I was in the middle of nowhere this past weekend; and
this can happen immediately after a phone call, or right after I turn off/on one of the wireless subsystems, but this is less common.
I am unlocked, I downgraded using the bricking method, I have used both Freeza's and TreVe's firmware packages, I have used the 2.17 stock RUU twice.
I have run Mik's 3.6 rom, D3rp's 3.6 rom, dropzeroc's ROM, MeanRom's ICS and gingerbread ROMs, and some others and I still get this problem. I have also tried multiple different batteries. I always superwipe between ROMs.
Because I have used so many different ROM's, I am fairly sure the issue is either firmware or hardware.
Anyone have any thoughts before I send this back to Sprint for 2nd replacement because I REALLY don't want to have to brickroot ANOTHER phone. Took me 8 f***ing hours to get this one done.
Thanks,
Osiris
My first suggestion would be flash a new radio.
If the radio and firmware doesn't get along that well, it can cause problems like the ones you're having.

Which radio would you use if you want to run ICS Sense 3.6? I guess I am confused though, wouldn't the 2.17 radio jive with the 2.17 firmware (radio 1.06 should be fine with 2.17 firmware right?)
I had the same issue. My phone would randomly reboot on screen on or sometimes i would check it and would see it restarting.
I went back to full stock and still had the same issue.
Took it to sprint and they get me another replacement.
I suggest you take it back.
I am trying the radio suggestion but thank you for the suggestion and I will probably take that advice if it continues having issues.
Well, I am not sure what to say.
Like any BAD troubleshooter, I changed two factors at once.
I switched to PKMN and downgraded the radio to .97
Well, it hasn't reset itself since.
Who the hell knows why either thing would fix my issue.
Downgrading the radio to .97 (from the 2.08 ruu) when everything else is 2.17 ruu makes no sense.
Going to Sense 4.0 ROM makes even less sense as a fix.
Anyone have a clue?
Hi I have a s-off, rooted rezound. I never actually put the ics firmware onto it (still not exactly clear on how to do it). However I installed a few sense 4 roms and while most worked perfectly fine, all of them had the issue with the camera fc and crashing. I installed the camera that was posted as a fix to no avail. Do I need to update the firmware and how (detailed please, sorta new at this), or will I be stuck using desensed roms till the devs fix it?
Not positive but fc'ing cam is a sense 4 bug.

If you have face detection on, it could crash the camera.

The camera seems to be an issue. Some say to uncheck face recognition and then it works...I don't know. Mine works when I've needed it. Some also have had luck with 3rd party apps. Eventually it will get fixed. You don't have to 'fall back' to a desensed rom, there are several good roms out there not using sense 4.0.
Update the firmware..? Well, there is a post today hinting at something coming in the next two weeks. Perhaps the long awaited OTA. So you should update to the new firmware. Either with the update or with one of the leaks. NilsP has some instructions on running the RUU in post #3 of one of his ROMS...the sense 4 one I think. Check it out if you want.
That's odd. I've ran all the sense 4 roms here and the only one that gives me problems is one xxx but is rare.

I'll have to check the face recognition, I wasn't using it but it's worth a shot.
Anyone know of any hq camera apps to use if the default fcs again?
FYI - Since you're s-off, you don't need to flash a whole RUU to get the latest firmware, take a look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366&highlight=firmware
Since you are running ICS on GB firmware, if you update, you need to flash the New firmware patch afterwards to revert what the old firmware patch does.
It won't help with your camera most likely cause as others has mentioned, it's a issue with Sense 4 roms for now, this makes it easier to upgrade though.
thanks mjones finally updating the firmware
Hi Guys,
I need help. I really appreciate if someone could help me.
Current Evo 4G LTE
Running Rom : Meanbean 2.71
baseband 1.12.11.0809
build 3.15.651.16.cl124461
kernel 3.4.10
HBoot 1.19
Radio 1.12
S ON,Unlocked
TWRP 2.3.1
My touchscreen won't work. Sometimes it's respond, but most of the time it's not respond. I have tried to upgrade TWRP 2.6x to see if i have update the touchpanel driver (but i think i have not update anything, just incase) still doesn't work. I have downgrade the touchpanel in Capt Throwback post, still not working. Is my panel or digitizer borked?
I thought in first place it was software issue, i have uninstall most added app, but not helping (doing it while the touchpanel work, tiba backup, nandroid backup also). but now I can't even flash anything since the touchpanel in TWRP also not responding. Does it related to power? since my batt drain so fast at this time.
Is there a way to flash ROM from fastboot/adb? just to make sure i have clean install, and see if the touchpanel related to software or hardware problem.
Please help. :crying:
You're software is really out of date. Having said that, it would appear that you are still on the older TP driver. If your screen works intermittently, your issue is most likely hardware-related.

I see. It's kindda sad since i love this phone that is why i haven't change to another. Yes it's outdated, since i haven't got time to play with it.
Is it possibly the digitizer?
Yea I am experiencing a similar thing over here mine however, will work fine then the screen recognizes random "ghost" touches and I have to lock then unlock the phone to make it quit. I'm hoping it's just the digitizer.

My touchscreen has become really glitchy, Swipes aren't smooth and it registers unwanted taps. I'm not sure if this is a software/kernel issue or maybe just the system getting bogged down for some reason. I started having this problem after installing tiKtaK 4.4 GPE ROM so I switched over to Viper 3.5 but I'm still having the same issue. Anyone else had this problem? I'm tempted to try flashing back to stock to see if it fixes things but I'd rather not if I don't have to.
UPDATE: Flashed to Viper 3.1.0 which was the last ROM I had loaded before the touchscreen issues started. Still having problems. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a hardware problem but I can't see why since the phone hasn't sustained any physical damage... Gonna try flashing to a stock + root ROM to see if that helps any :-/

Sounds like a hardware issue to me if you have changed software 3 times and it's still happening.
