im a proud t959 user, though vibrant is an old device i think it still fully functional!! so what do u guys think about it?? do we need a newer device?? what newer divices can do vibrant cannot??

Vibrant is just classic.... Fast enough, efficient. But you shouldn't compare it to newer devices
This is just a Tapatalk Signature. Thanks for reading! :silly:

Lol! If you are just a normal user, i suggest you stick to the vibrant. But if you want a bigger screen with a better performance than the vibrant, i think the note will be fine.
Kindly hit the THANKS button if i helped.

You cannot compare our Vibrant with new devices. Even if the vibrant still rocks there's a huge difference compared with new devices. Just got my S3 and i can't believe how fast it is. Very easy to feel few years of technology.

I think unless you want to play high end games, you don't need a new device (since we still get Android 4.0+ apps). The Vibrant hasn't supported the big flagship games in a long time, yet somehow the N64, PSP, and the NDS (this one is pretty slow) emulaltors run games like Family Guy for the PSP or Paper Mario for N64 pretty well. The Vibrant also seems to lack a reliable GPS and lacks NFC. Not only that from what we konw about Android 4.3 (OpenGL ES 3.0 and low energy Bluetooth support); it won't really benefit the Vibrant all that much. I think at the worst, the Vibrant is becoming that old laptop that you give to kids or "technology-challenged" people for light gaming and web use. This device still gives a great Android 4.2 expirenece which shows that it attracted some great devs and Samsung made hardware that was well beyond its time. Still, if you want a new device, go for it. There will always be reasons to upgrade, that's why some people upgrade their phones annually.
As for me, I'm waiting for T-Mobile's LTE-Advanced network (and a phone that can that can theoretically support support 150 mb/s downloads) but might upgrade earlier for OpenGL ES 3.0 support (because the GameCube emulator and eventually flagship games will require it)!

S4 mini seems to be the best upgrade (especially in terms of screen size). Sometimes I feel the lack of more RAM memory.
Other than that, I'm fine with it, the CPU is not painfully slow.

You guys are just great,, I think its worth to upgrade.

I'm still using mine until it dies. It will be a sad day for me when it happens, and I'm sure I'll be wowed by the difference my new phone will make.
My Vibrant was an insurance replacement for my Nexus One, and I hated it at the time. Luckily, people way smarter than me have kept this phone relevant.
Even if I upgrade, I'll still keep this one around. One day these older flagship phones will be like classic cars.
Damn, I'm getting old.

Nexus S or wait for GS II?

Damn, GSII Is coming may first, I love the NS but man GSII is a beast, I have the money right now for NS but Im sure GSII will be a LOT.
What do YOU think?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hang on..
Nexus S is just another version of the original galaxy
Absolutely, its miles ahead as far as the advancements are concerned.
1Ghz vs 1.2Ghz Dual Core Cortex A9's on the S II
512MB Ram vs 1GB Ram on the S II
4 in SAMOLED vs 4.3 in SAMOLED +
patience, my friend...
Galaxy S 2 is worth waiting for.
I wouldnt mind waiting if I had the money, but I feel like I need to stop switching phones so much, I may go with NS for a year or 2, It has all I need after after all, I dont root or rom so in all honesty I think all that 1gb ram, dual core stuff I wont need, all I do is play music web browse, use phone and use some apps, thats it...I dont see the need to wait and spend even more for things that I dont need, I really need to stop getting phone after phone because some new specs come out, NS has all I need, hopefully it will be like that for a couple years until I really need a new phone rather then want, I know the techies want the latest and greatest but to the average user, they dont care as long as it has the things you need rather then ram, processer etc, I need to start thinking like that rather then drooling over every new phone, its a waste of money.
Just my opinion, hopefully NS can last me.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I also am not prone to change phones often. My current phone is an HTC Touch Dual I've had for like 4 years.BUT I like to buy the best when I do; which right now happens to be the Galaxy SII. That's why I've preordered already.
In that case, it is better to somewhat future proof your investment by buying the current technology and utilizing it to the fullest.
SGSII will be better for you in the long run.
Samsung Galaxy S2, no doubt about it, lol.
Yea but how much lol? I can get the NS for $560, whats the GSII gonna be? $700?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
We can't tell you for sure until it's announced in each region, but it's definitely worth the wait to find out. You're talking about buying a last gen phone vs a cutting edge phone basically. Do you want to spend $500 and have an already outdated phone, or maybe roughly the same, maybe a little more for a top of the line phone? The Nexus S is a great phone for sure, but this is a fast paced industry and with the dual core CPUs and the new SAMOLED+ screen, I think it's worth the wait and maybe a little more money.
Its a no brainer for me.
SII of course.
Perhaps waiting for a few weeks will give you some clear cut details on the launch and costing.
SGS II without a doubt. The Nexus S is a great phone, but doesn't hold a candle to the SGS II.

That is where the phone being not boot-locked and XDA developers come in...and personaly for me this will be the deciding factor as I know how slow both my carrier (A$&$) and Samsung about releasing software updates.rolleyes:
Samsung have been improving with frequence of updates however...at least for some phones...
Nexus S is a cool phone but I could never understand why they castrated some parts off of it.
Updates are nice, yes, but since the phone comes with 2.3, it probably won't be a big deal to me. The wait from 2.1 to 2.2 was horrible because Flash is such a huge addition, but have they said what the killer feature will be past Gingerbread? I doubt it'll be as huge as Flash was.
Went ahead and got the NS, glad I did, I will be happy with it as it is the full google experience, great looking phone, SAmoled, I mean it has everything I need, Im sure the SAmoled+ will be cool but thats the main thing I would want, back when I had the captivate only things I wanted was that ATT would not block apps, a camera flash, and a FFC, now I have it all! What more do I need, perhaps in 1 1/2-2 years I get the Dual Core stuff, but for now Im sure the NS will be perfect for me and my needs.
You have my sincere condolences.

im trying to see if I should wait for the Galaxy S2, GX2, or htc Sensation too.
Sensation and Galaxy S2 both have more Ram the the LG, but the LG is out now...
All 3 use are different duel core processor.
I definitely dont think you should go for the mytouch 4 with the LG out now and others on the way.
trying to decide which of the 3 duel core phones to go for myself.
if you are looking for a phone now, its the LG hands down. If you are willing to wait, then you are in the same boat as me. not sure between the LG, HTC, or Sammy
Ya, the htc is supposed to be out in June or July. But my son's mytouch slide is having issues. So I'm considering upgrading and giving him my phone.

If you can wait ............wait for the S2 the hardware is something to wait for. Over the next 10-15 months all the phones will go through a huge change. All the new phones hardware will have the capacity to run windows 7 (not that they will) but think about it ....the phone I have now has the same power as my windows 2000 computer 7 years ago............ amazing time.........
The vibrant has too much going for it to pay for an upgrade now. Especially in my mind the uncertainty of the AT&T takeover, or as i call it, when we all get screwed.
The g2x is amazing. I want one. But I also know my phone is dang good and only better phones are going to roll out... More GHz and more dual cores.
The next phone with a perfect 4"screen, 1.3+ GHz dual core on a good/cheap network may change my opinion... In the future.
S2 for sure. There is nothing to discuss, and nothing to think about. That is just the way to do it. Period.
S2 has a answered my prayers. I have been waiting for a freakin 4.3 SAMOLED phone to come out. Sammy only had the 4" galaxy S - Vibrant last year with talks of "dual core."
I'm glad that they didn't rush it either- because that would have been a huge liability waiting to happen.
Instead, they listened to our gripes.
1. 32gb memory- on bigger model
2. FFC - badass
3. FLASH!!!!
4. 8mp camera
5. 4.3" Capacitive Touch
6. Super Amoled!!!!!!!!
7. Gorilla glass?
8. External SD support up to 32gb
9. 4g !!!!!
10. GingerBread official.
11. Mod edit: to much info mate...keep it to yourself.
Seriously, it blows anything out of the water that is out there and will be out there in the near future.
Plus, Tmobile is getting is.
I'm going to buy 10 of these just in case zombies attack, then I'll just sit back and relax.
Anyway, /shameless Plug.
you get the picture.
GL with your decision.
A better way to go about this is, do you plan on rooting your new phone and installing custom ROMs? If you you do intend to do that, then i think Samsung has proven they could careless about you or the dev community so long as you buy there product.
We all know HTC shares there source code and there is a herd of diehard HTC fans who will mod the crap out of the Sensation.
I just picked up the G2x yesterday after i seen that LG has already released source code for not only the OS but kernel source code as well, and with cyanogen himself doing the CM7 port to the G2x, it will and should be community supported greatly as well
A thing that sold me on the G2x is that it supports AT&T 3G bands, so if its still my main phone if the merger goes down, it'll be a fully compatible device and i wont need to buy a new one to take advantage of AT&Ts extended coverage
So in the end it really just boils down to:
How long can you wait?
Do you intend to mod your phone?
Galaxy S2 hands down.
It will have a lot of ROMS for it since it has an unlocked Bootloader just like the Vibrant. The HTC Sensation does NOT. It also has lots of memory internal, and a 4.3 Super Amoled PLUS. Everything else you can compare to the HTC Sensation of G2X as all 3 have relatively similar "rest of the phone".
I'm on a g2x lets hope that the galaxy 2 does not have the normal sammy problems like on the vibrant I have a bitter taste for them now

as you can see from the second post in this thread, I too am trying to decide between gx2, gs2, sensation...
i see tons of people saying the samsung gs2 will be the best thing ever. So yes, Sammy does have awesome hardware (look at our vibrants). But, will it be cheap plastic? and who cares how great the hardware is if the Software sucks balls? (like our vibrants). Yes, our developers are awesome, but they are having to run circles around Sammy's terrible software writing...
I am not saying this is the case with the gs2, as im thinking about it too, just wondering these things...?
Thank you guys so much for your responses. It was exactly what I was looking for, different opinions. I needed to get a phone because two of the phones on my plan were injured. My son chose the "sidekick" not a bad phone, but I tried to talk him out of it. But whatever, it was cheaper.(good for me). I chose the G2x. And I gotta say, WOW! And for those wondering, the screen is just as good. Colors even seem a bit deeper. Quadrants (whatever) but 2200 out the box. The 4g is way better than my 3g. You tube on HD without a stutter. Couldnt pull that off before.
1080 vid recording (I was told) not tested yet.
Fast fast fast processor.
FFC (untested yet)
8mp camera with flash.
Feels much more solid and better made than Vibrant.
Stock against stock. Hands down its better. Guess I will have to wait on dev community for customization results. Maybe I will try to figure out how and root it tonight to remove some bloat.
I will miss my Vibrant (but my sis in law will be happy).
Oh! And I heard today the merge with ATT may not happen. Yay!

[Q] Thinling of getting galaxy s2

Hi I am thinking of getting the gs2 to replace my lg g2x which is a kick ass phone but I am bored with it so I want something new. I was going to get the s1 but right before I changed phones the g2x came out and the specs were great. I dont regret it but I still want a Samsung. I just have a few questions first.
Overall how do you guys like your phone? A 5 year old can hack and root the g2x is this phone the same? If not how hard is it to root? What are the chances that this phone will get ICS? And how long do you think you will have to wait? And finally would it be better to wait for the galaxy nexus to come out? Is the galaxy nexus really going to be that much better than this phone? Also have any of you heard if the galaxy nexus is going to be available for TMO. I asked a rep today who said she did not know. But we all know asking the customer service over the phone is like asking my grandfather who hardly knows what a phone is. Any help you guys can be is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot
Charlie
Well it's a definite update from G2X. But if I were you I'd wait a little bit more and get the Nexus Prime. You are already 5 months late to get a GSII, now when you've waited this long why not few more days.
The SGS2 is a great phone and I don't think the galaxy nexus is going to be much better. BUT, I personally would go with the galaxy nexus since it bring the android experience ( I mean no touchwiz) and ICS. Anyway rooting SGS2 is a piece of cake, as is flashing ROMs and stuff so you could easily get CM7 running and get rid of the touchwiz interface.
So the galaxy nexus is coming to tmobile? If it is I am definitly going with it. Like I said a rep over the phone said thy did not know yet. But this close to launch I would tink they would know but thats just my opinion. Thats the other thing I wanted to ask about touchwiz. Is it ok or does it suck. The g2x is vannilla android and thats the way I perfer it. I actually dont really use cm7 not saying it sucks but I didnt even install cm 7 until the recent final relese of 7.1 came out. However I love Eagles blolod based off CM 7 that is by far the best most stable rom I have used to date. Anyway thanks for all your help guys.
How hard is the Galaxy S2 to root? Super easy.
How are the chances for it to get ICS? 100%
How long will it take? Hard to tell, as it depends on when google releases the sources. (Samsung release will have TouchWiz)
Is TouchWiz bad or good? It's not that bad, but I find both, MIUI and CyanogenMod, better. But that is just my opinion.
Is it better to wait for the Galaxy Nexus? Well I had the chance to give away my Galaxy S2 and get a Galaxy Nexus once it comes out, but I didn't. I must admit that the screen is damn impressive, but no micro-SD-slot is an absolute no-go for me.
Will the Galaxy Nexus be much better than the Galaxy S2? Define better. For watching movies? Yes. For playing games? I highly doubt that, as it got a weaker GPU and has a much higher resolution. Both factors have a negative impact on the performance. However, keep in mind that the Galaxy Nexus will set the standard for this "generation" of Android phones, so it doesn't really matter which one you get. Both are amazing.
I hope this helps you with your decision.

wow I must have missed that no microsd card slot? I have not had a phone that didnt have one for over 10 years at this point. No SD card slot what? How much on board storage does it have Afew gigs? I mean I have a 16 gig in now and it is almost maxed out and easily could be I have to cut down on what I carry. I need 32 gigs I guess that they are pushing their google music cloud storage and google docs and such. Oh well thanks for the heads up.
As far as I know there are two versions. One with 16 and one with 32 gigabytes. For me 16 aren't enough and 32 too expensive. Besides that, I don't know if I might need even more in future. Therefore lacking the possibility to upgrade if it becomes necessary is a no-go for me. The screen is the only real argument that speaks for the Nexus. I can wait for ICS...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes it has no sd card slot. I believe it comes in 16/32gb, can't remember. Well if you really want an HD screen you could wait till the sgs 2 HD LTE comes out for south korea and have it shipped down here. If not, the sgs 2 is all good.
Personally I don't even like the nexus prime, well the pricing at least. They want us to pay $300+ for a HD screen? Wow... Plus if the GPU it uses is a sgx 540 then that's an even more of a downgrade like the 8mp-5mp camera.

Because it was used that way by advertisers just like having high cpu frequencies is right now. Why'd you think the s2 got pumped to 1.2 just before launch. But still you are right.
But on the matter, I have a s2 and it is an amazing phone. I don't think you will regret it if you'd bought it. But personally I'd go for the gn but it is mostly based on looks. Although I have never seen one.
ICS will take some time but if you want it as soon as possible the nexus is the way to go. And no TW. It works and it has some cool features but 75% of it is useless to me.

I am aware that megapixels mean do not give the actual performance. However in the case of mobile phones and chips, it is highly unlikely samsung will produce or place a 5mp camera better than the 8mp camera found on the sgs 2. This is a mobile camera sensor, there is only so much you can do with it. Aside from lens, etc.

You forget that there might be some "new technology" that improves the camera. Besides that, the integration of the camera into the OS is also very important and ICS should give the Galaxy Nexus a fair advantage in that point. At least until the Galaxy S2 gets ICS.

[Q] How far can you really take a Vibrant...

Debating on upgrading to the S3... My wife and I have old school Vibrants... Currently rooted, running ICZen 4.0.4, Overclocked a bit but not too much... The phones perform about as well as a stock SGS2, and I want to know how far I can safely PUSH the Vibrant, performance wise, and is there any way that I can somehow upgrade the hardware of the phone - maybe more RAM or something... I like the phone's SIZE, don't really want a larger phone, but if I have to go to the SGS3 then so be it
i love the Vibrant as weel bro its been one phone to not give up ive ran my Vibrant when i was running Bionix and DOW kernel OC at 1.7 FLYING a little hot runny but hey still running lol but any phone you grab make sure to look at the development sections dont want a phone hardly anyone works on you will get very bored lol as far as the screen is why i havnt upgraded to anything really i love the screen its perfect not big or small "PERFECT" if i was to get another phone i was thinking bout the BLAZE 4g for its processors and SPECS and the 4g reports r faster on that phone but all phones now are snappy and smooth the Vibrant was a test to see how far we can push android and with great success they done just that ! any phone you get will be great dont get rid of the vibrant its a ride or die phone like the G1 was

This is very good advice. However, take your own advice and look into their Development Section.
Unless something has changed, not much going on at all over there. Not much internal storage either. My cousin got these for a good price, and they are decent devices, if you aren't into ROM flashing, that is.

I would, without a doubt, take the thing out of the box and root / ROM flash immediately... After having so much success with my old Vibrant, I'd root the **** out of a SGS3 or Note Ill look into it before deciding... lol

I also have the Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile. My contract will actually end in a week, and if I were you, I would wait for Google to release the next nexus phone. If you don't want to wait 1-2 months, I think either the galaxy nexus or HTC One S would be a good deal. The One S is FREE!! (If you sign a 2-year contract w/ T-Mobile.) The One S has a good development community, about the same size as the Vibrant. but with better specs in every area.
Well I had several high end phone like Nexus and S3, I keep the Vibrant as a backup phone and main music player, since it works with ATT/TMo 3G and have the wolfson dac for great sound. The Vibrant is going to last a long time because there are lots of developers for it, since its a variation of the popular Galaxy S.
You will be happy with the S3 speed, its seems okay with Touchwiz, but once you install custom rom it will be blazing fast. Especially the quadcore GPU for gaming. As for the durability, it will be much more cheaply built and easier to break/scratch compared to the Vibrant, so you will need to take care of it real good. Sometimes things will happen not due to the user, but due to the cheap design.
You should upgrade the Vibrant to Jelly Bean, the interface is much smoother than ICS. Try SlimBean rom, oc it to 1.2ghz, install the Google Now package as well. It slow down for heavy tasks, but for normal usage it mostly smooth and still have more features than the iPhone5.
Same as above, the only phone I'll be upgrading to is the next Google Nexus. Although I'm looking at the Oppo Find 5 too, but my final decision to purchase a phone has always been if its a Nexus or supported by Cyanogenmod.
I installed SlimBean over the weekend and just punched my SammyV up to 1.2GHz... wow its much nicer now

[Q] About the statement of happines of SGS2 Users!

Hello,
So i am upgrading from SGmini to SGS2
And i was thinking firstly to ask some experienced users with SGS
I could buy the SGS3 but i dont really like that phone (don't know why, but it didnt feel really good in my hand )
So what does the users that own SGS2 think of their phone?
Does it play the newly released games? like some RPG games?
Is it really fast even after installing over 10+ apps/games?
Whats the quality of recording/capturing?
At least just tell me it is WORTH to buy?
sorry for bumping many questions
P.S after i get my phone i should ask a very STEP BY STEP what to do with the phone to work faster!
The SGS2 is still a good smartphone (I'm happy with it right now), but if I were you, I'd go for the SGS3: once you get used to it it's an awesome device, trust me.

Galaxy S2 is still a very capable phone. it can perform without any disappointment with all those things you listed.
I'll advise you to go for the S3 but If the size is a problem, then you can wait for S3 mini (Rumours say it will the same Galaxy S3 in a smaller shell).
If size is not the problem, then you can also consider Note II.

Which one do you want to buy? the Normal I9100 or the I9100G? If you want to buy the I9100 then there will be developing problems whenever a new Android version will come out. Just look at the CM10 thread. The Exynos processor of the I9100 is a huge pain in the ass and Android 4.1.1 is still not working on the I9100 as it should. If you want to upgrade to the newest Android version really quick then buy the I9100G version. It will get quick updates through the community because the processor is from Texas Instruments (Omap) and is developer friendly.
The normal I9100 is still a great phone in my opinion. ICS works very well with it. I`ve been using it for months without any problems.
One question though, have you considered buying a Galaxy Nexus? You would get updates very fast since they would come from Google directly.
im gonna put this simply, galaxy s2 is the best phone I've ever owned! fast, reliable and never bored of it!

This is hands down the best phone I have ever owned as well! Its damn fast, it has a beautiful screen and it has a killer camera. What more would you want in a phone? Sure the GS3 is faster and bigger but having this baby doesn't feel like a major step down from the S3. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have an S3 but I'm not in a rush at all to get it. I don't know why but I really love the shape and look of the S2.
Also one interesting point to note is that for some reason the S2 is a lot tougher than the S3 when compared in drop tests (despite the Gorilla Glass 2 on the S3.) Google it and see for yourself on youtube (helpful if you have butter fingers, but I treasure my S2 like a new born child so thankfully I have never personally dropped mine)
i second, s3 is more sophisticated phone. if you drop it then you have high risk of damage as compared to s2.
but on the other side its loaded with some very good feature and will keep on getting future os updates whereas s2 will only get its last update.
well i would advise to go with s3 if its only the size which is holding you else without any further thinking go for s2

well well, I really like the SGS2 and I know that SGS3 has really much new features but the size, the form is that i dont like. Take a look at Note2 its a good phone and fast but its tooooo big like the SGS3.
So as i see everyone loves the SGS2 and it still run the latest games!!
So I will wait till some new replys and suggestions!

same here, well i haven't dropped my phone out of my casemate tough case! only once in the case but not one mark appeared!
i did around 2 to 3 months of research before getting this phone waiting patiently watching youtube video reviews etc by samjpullen (how sad that i remember the name! ) but i was serious about choosing this phone after all you have it for two years. i will no doubt do the same for my next phone- i hope rumours are true and that a smaller alternative to the s3 will become available- im not concerned though as my upgrade isn't due till next July/August.
i am though trying my hardest to convince my wife to get an s2 for her upgrade in November or December!
people say the s2 is big but not in comparison to others!

So you think SGS2 is a really good phone for taking pictures and playing movies/games?
Dont bother with "the step by step to make phone faster".
Start searching and learning.......

indeed! I've played gta and currently im playing football manager and its smooth as anything, camera as with all mobiles can be bad in poor light but tbf most situations the camera is great-hd recording as well which is perfect for me as my son is only 8 months old so lots of videos to treasure!
i can honestly say you wouldn't regret getting the s2 but take a look at some videos and see what you think, I've stayed stock up till now but maybe in the new year i may go for a custom Rom and be brave throughout my last 6 months on this contract! lol
if i didn't get the bug and itch to upgrade come upgrade time i could seriously keep this phone as my main driver for longer than the contract is up!

Bro get the S2, I promise you wont be disappointed!
Even if this phone doesn't officially get the next OS update (after JellyBean) I guarantee it will still get it in the form of unofficial ones like CyanogenMod etc. I mean it has a freaking 1.2 Ghz dual core processor! That's almost as fast as my old P4, plus it has a good GPU. It plays every game I have thrown at it perfectly.
It truly is a legend phone and one which set the bar for all other phones! I wouldn't think twice in owning another one.
I love it
I love my Galaxy S2. Perfect screen size for me, slim body, good development team, etc. I really don't think about getting the Galaxy S3 despite its good processor and such, this is because it looks like a fridge and the screen is too big.
