Kernel Source - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hello all. I was wondering if now that we have the kernel source does that make cm10 not cm10.1 stable?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app

Cm 10 is 4.1.2
Cm 10.1 is 4.2.2
Just the simple fact of having kernel source doesn't automatically make it stable things need merged tested and published,
and it's not only the kernel the can cause instability, mods to the framework can cause issues as well.
It'll be a stable release when the devs feel it's worthy of that name.

I just found it on cyanogenmod official website, and I would like to know, if someone is using this rom, whats the difference between cm9 and cm9 nightly. And if possible a print of a sunspider test. Thank you!

i presume you mean the difference between the cm9 stable and the cm9 nightly.
The cm9 stable was released at the point where the cm9 branch was stabilised across all devices. However at this point our Xperia S was still showing some issues. There have been many changes since the cm9 stable build.
Check here for fxp specific changes:

Hi guys this is an AOSP kernel by me (Sprortsstar89).This is the one based on faux (Not included in my cm builds) so it has all the features of faux's and i AOSPfied it while adding my own features and tweaks. (Thanks Faux123 for base)

This is a kernel that is for the most part entirely based on caf the only problem is display is broken. I need to merge the appropriate code in to the display driver but the display driver is heavily intergrated with vsync stuff and other cm10 specific stuff.

I'm amazed with how quiet this thread is given what hype there was for a modified amaze kernel.
Anyways, i attempted to load this with the 7.18.13 build of cm 10.1 (modified for navbar use) and found that it couldn't progress past the white HTC splash screen, is anyone else finding the same?

This thread and kernel are OLD. Read the date before you guys resurrect a long dead thread!
And because it's old, it's most likely incompatible with CM10.1. That's why you're stuck on the splash screen.
There is no need to flash this on CM10.1, it has a custom AOSP kernel on it anyway.

[KERNEL] International FROST Kernel
NOTICE: This is COMPATIBLE with AOSP+ AND PureAosp JellyBean 4.3!
Just a statement regarding kernel source: The Kernel Source is of course covered under GPL version 2. Free software does NOT mean no work or time was spent working on it. I have donated a large sum of my free time to hack this kernel. If you use my modified kernel source in parts or in its entirety, I kindly ask you mention its origins and to send me a github pull request or PM whenever you find bugs or think you can help improve my kernel hack further. This way the entire community will truly benefit from the spirit of open source. Thank you !
THIS KERNEL IS CURRENTLY IN TESTING STATUS AND NOT BETA OR STABLE
*Features*
Quad Core is disabled by default, the X+ will now turn into a Dual core device (this can be changed with the performance governor)
Memory features are = to that of a 3.4 android kernel
more to come

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Linaro optimizations consist of both changes made to the Android Open Source Project (and CM) as well as a special toolchain that uses GCC 4.7. Because this is a kernel that is only offered in its source form, it is up to you to build it with the Linaro toolchain if you want to see the performance benefits that can arise from the Linaro optimizations. Also Lloir was somewhat specific in telling you not to make feature requests (I would consider Linaro such a request), so you might want to read his post a bit more closely next time.

This is a link to the kernel source. you would have to build the kernel yourself. if your looking for a CM kernel for ATT HOX+, then i would wait for a fully working CM rom first. There is still audio issues with CM, however devs are working on it. Be patient

Cyanogenmod 10.1 DNA discussion thread

As stated in the cm 10.1 dev thread lets keep the general CM discussions here instead of cluttering the dev thread.
Great idea - now we can have all the misguided, misinformed speculation we want as to what hurdles have yet to be cleared before the DNA gets official CM nightly support
jk
Haha, exactly.
Actually, I think efforts might soon be underway to port straight AOSP as well I hope what I've heard (I can't give details, so please don't ask) comes to fruition.
That'd be great. I've been trying to learn more about programming and the build system so I can start helping out with some of it. I've setup ubuntu and sync and build cm every couple of days and I've been messing with building aokp since its based on cm.
AOKP, PA, PAC ROMs me want
Also some AOSP kernels as well
Sent from my TF300T using Tapatalk 2
I made a few changes and aokp started to build but I came across an error and haven't had time to look into it. If I get it built I'll try to learn some more about git and upload the source

Because a lot of popular ROMs out there are based on AOSP rather than on CM. Besides, there's always room for both right?
I'd love to try pure AOSP. I've always had HTC devices so I never got the pure Android experience.

because I want android and not all the stuff that comes with CM, if I want themes and mods ill do them myself
Does anyone have any resources that break down the build process?
I'm pretty excited for the 10.1 rom to become a daily driver. Once it's complete I hope to see possible other roms that are desensed... I'm sick of sense! I want some unadulterated android (or close to it)!
why would you want an aosp kernel? how are they better?

Sense kernels won't work on aosp and the stock one they included in CM can't be overclocked or undervolted.

The kernel we are using right now is our stock kernel with cm commits. It doesn't include overclock or any other features because they could cause more bugs. Better to work all the bugs out of cm before you start doing things that could introduce more. Cplamer has already said that he has run a custom kernel with cm on his DNA so it is definitely going to happen. Just have to wait or build your own kernel unfortunately.

The other reason is because they're making so many changes to cm right now to get it working that a new kernel would have to be released for every update. I believe T1gartist has been running cm oc'd with a custom kernel as well

[Kernel] TRIM: Fast and Stable CyanogenMod 11 on the Galaxy S2 AT&T i777

Brickbug Aftermath: Speeding up the Galaxy S2 i9100, S2 AT&T i777, S2 Epic 4G Touch d710 and Note n7000
UPDATE: VICTORY !!!
2016-03-02: after two years of tests and discussions, folklore, FUD and evidence, Lysergic Acid finally took the plunge and merged! TRIM is now part of the official CM 12.1 and CM 13.0 kernels, and this project can at last be retired, yoohoo!!! CM 13 users now enjoy TRIM out of the box, but users of CM 12.1 builds older than Match 2016 as well as CM 11.0 users continue to require a separate TRIM kernel.
this thread is dedicated to Entropy and the brave users who risked their devices to run the very first TRIM tests.
UPDATE: CM 13.0 kernels are now available!!! (for CM 13.0-supported platforms only: i9100 and i777.)
UPDATE: several enhancements in new kernel batch:
CM 12.1 kernels are now available!!! (for CM 12.1-supported platforms only: i9100 and i777.)
kernels can now be flashed with the official, restricted cyanogen recovery that is bundled with CM 12.1.
rom-independent kernels: kernels are no longer dependent one-to-one on specific official CM builds (they might work with other roms too), and their names no longer reference a specific CM build.
although there are no official CM 11 builds for the i777, thanks to rom independence CM 11-based kernels for that device are now available.
CM 11 i9100-to-i777 cross-flash kernels for the i777 may now work with other i9100 roms besides official CM.
UPDATE: Crossflash Kernels for the i777
CyanogenMod stopped supporting the i777 in the CM 10.2 days and never produced CM 11 roms for this device. in the past, availability of my TRIM kernels for this device was limited in the same way.
now I have released crossflash kernels for the i777 that allow you to flash official i9100 releases of CM 11 on your i777 and enjoy CM 11 plus TRIM and FPBug fix. in other words, a fast and stable CM 11!
UPDATE: CM 13 Crossflash Kernels for the i777 are now available here.
Instructions
download a version of CM 11 for the i9100 to your phone.
(until M13 is released, i recommend the latest nightlies over M12. switch to M13 afterwards.)
download a more-or-less matching version of my i777 crossflash kernel to your phone.
(kernel and rom versions do not need to match exactly; most combinations will work.)
boot into recovery
flash my kernel.
reboot recovery.
flash the official i9100 CM 11 zip file.
(do not modify the file in any way! my crossflash kernel will adapt it to the i777.)
flash my kernel again.
finally, i recommend that you trim partitions to gain increased speed.
(follow the relevant steps of the "instructions" section of this post.)
NOTE: the next time you upgrade CM you can skip steps 4 and 5.
UPDATE: this project now supports all roms and kernels!
if you are not running CyanogenMod M snapshots, please see this post.
this project restores TRIM capability to CyanogenMod kernels for the Galaxy S2 family of 4210-based devices: i9100, i777, d710 and n7000. TRIM is needed to avoid "aging" of the state of the eMMC, the internal flash storage, that eventually slows the device to a crawl. TRIM functionality is built into android 4.3 and later. however, due to historical and safety concerns, TRIM capability was removed from the CM kernels for these devices (and from most if not all other AOSP-based kernels).
STOP!!! DRAGONS AHEAD!!!
in theory there could be risk of hard-bricking your device forever.
1) READ THIS POST IN FULL.
2) answer this poll (view results).
3) discuss your i777 experience below in this thread.
Downloads
for the supported devices, you will find IsoRec-compatible CyanogenMod-based kernels here. (old kernels without IsoRec support can be found here. yet older retired kernels without FPBug fix are still available here.) note that for some supported devices, no releases or M snapshots are currently being produced. for those devices i can produce kernels based on known 'stable' nightlies if users ask.
