So, this is maddening. When I first got my phone I popped in the external card and it worked with no hitches. Set my camera to store pictures on it, that worked. I set the default Titanium backup location to the external card, that worked as well.
And then today, it... stopped working. If I take a picture it says "cannot write to SD card, changing storage to internal memory". And titanium backup says that the external card is non-writable. Permissions of external card are set to 775 and if I try to change it to 777 (if that is even the problem) it gives me "Error! Changing permissions was not successful. Please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes." I am rooted.
If I plug my phone into my computer, it defaults to "plugged in as installer" and I have to set it to "media device" each time. When I do, I click on "Card" (which already has music and pictures on it) and the folder comes up empty.
Just yesterday I was dragging and dropping music into the SD card folder from my computer. So, I have no idea what happened. I've tried unmounting/remounting the card within my phone to no avail.
Any ideas?
Edit: I don't know if it's related but how do I get this stupid verizon updater thing to stop auto-running when I plug in the phone? Even with "connect USB as media device" checked it still tries to run this updater installer. I even installed the damn thing and it still tries to run it again every time I plug it in.
Edit2: My gallery isn't even reading the pictures from the card anymore. It's only displaying pictures on internal memory.
Edit3: Ownership of extSdCard is "1000: system". If I try to change it to "0: root" it won't let me. Internal storage is owned by root and is set to 777 permissions.
Edit4: "Hardware ID Missing" when I plug the phone into my computer. I can still access internal memory through through the PC, just not the ext card.

My computer will no longer mount my internal memory when I connect my Atrix to my PC. It recognizes the sd card, but not the internal memory. Does anyone know why this might have happened and how to correct it?
I had this problem but in reverse, when I installed cm7, my computer didn't recognize my sd card. Found out it was a drive mapping issue as the default drive letter was being used on my network. I solved this by right clicking on "my computer", then click "manage", then "disk management". Look in the window and find your device, you can identify it by the size. Right click on it and choose change drive letter. Make it something like K or L. It should then show up. Hope that works. You do have mass storage clicked on don't you?
Thanks for the response. I do have mass storage on when I try to connect to my PC. Im going to try what you suggested.
Thanks again.
I have a similar problem from time to time, my PC will only mount the external SD Card. Generally when this happens, it's because I have an app open that's got a file lock somewhere on the internal card (e.g. Root Explorer, Music Player, Samba File Sharing, a downloading file...). I use Go Launcher EX and select "Close All Programs" in the app panel, and this generally let's my computer mount the internal card right away.

Click to collapse
Thanks for the hint, I had this problem before but was unable to figure out why...
EDIT: when this happens (PC unable to mount sd card or internal memory), I used to use "adb" to push files to phone instead... this is a workaround of the above issue, though it's somewhat cumbersome.
I'd noticed a corrupt file was keeping my external SD from functioning correctly, so I:
took it out
inserted into my PC
deleted the file
moved everything off
formatted it
moved everything back on
put the card back in
The phone then noticed it was inserted, went through scanning, etc, so I thought I was ok. Then I went to look at my photos & they weren't there. So I looked at the storage, & it says, "insert SD card for mounting." If I take it out & re-insert it, the phone notices that it's there, & scans, etc, but I can't, for example, even create a folder w/ES File Explorer. I also can't use the phone's "erase SD card" utility.
I can read the card & move files on/off via my PC no problem. Anyone ever seen/been through something like this?
I just starting have a problem today that I hope someone can help me fix. I was transferring a file from my PC to my phone when I received a "File Cannot be Transferred" notice, and a hanging copy progress screen. So I clicked cancel, safely removed my phone, and unplugged. Now I have nothing showing on my SD, in Storage Settings it displays the card along with an accurate Storage remaining (4.5 GB out of 64 GB), but the file explorer displays no files. I've tried rebooting, unmounting/remounting my card, and still nothing. I went into recovery and can see files and deleted the partially transferred file, when I reboot, the SD card loads, Folder Mount runs and successfully mounts to my SD, I can even go to the file explorer and see files briefly, then within a minute or two.....poof everything disappears. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Hi!
I have this weird issue where my 64gb micro-sd card from sandisk turned to a read only format. I was just transferring some music to my phone when I noticed that the transfer speed got very low. I stopped the transfer and tried again later but that didn't work at all. I then tried to copy the music to the internal memory that worked just fine but when I tried to transfer from the internal to the external with the help of the file manager I got "Read-only storage error".
I have tried unmounting/remounting the card back, restarting the device and I have also tried changing MTP to MTC (?) under x-peria connection-usb. One thing that really confuses me is that in this mode I can write and delete content but when I use my phone those added/deleted content wont show up at all and either in the file manager or when I try to connect again.
I saw that some people have fixed it by go into properties and tools and press check now when the SD card is connected to the computer but that did not solve the issue. My phone is a rooted D6503 with android version 5.0.2
Hi,
As far as i know, MTP should allow you to read and write.
Have you tried formatting your SD card on a PC ?
FWIW... Me, too. Was good for a year, then I tried to replace the 64GB with a 128GB. The latter was read-only, do I switched back and now it's also read-only.
LP 5.1.1, rooted with dual recovery. SDFIX installed.
Greetings and Salutations,
I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 running the stock ROM and bootloader, Android 6.0.1, Kernel 3.10.49-9058927, with 16GB internal storage, and a 128GB U3 microSD card (not 100% sure of SD card speed, its above class 10), the phone is the 2016 version (subtle changes from the 2015 apparently) and has not yet been rooted.
I tried to enable adoptable storage to get a couple of apps to run better, but I want to revert back and seek a different solution, namely rooting and using Link2SD.
I tried the standard method of adoptable storage, and the option was not present in the storage screen on my phone. I tried using adb, and got timeout messages on the sm partition disk:179,64 private command. (Enabled USB debugging, accepted connections, installed samsung drivers, adb server daemon and shell all started successfully). Eventually it showed the sd card as corrupt. I popped it out of the phone, and deleted the partition on my computer, leaving raw, unformatted space on the card. I reinstalled the sd card in the phone, and the format as internal option was now present. I hit that, let it run and tried to migrate data afterward. Migrating always failed between 30 and 45%, and it showed me at 15.92GB or more out of 16GB used. I decided to revert back. I reformatted the sd card as portable in the phone, and it corrupted again. I did the same process, but elected to format as fat32 on my computer. Reinserting the sd card, it asked to format, so I did, as portable. The sd card appears to be back to normal, but I'm still at almost 16GB used on the phone. I tried to delete some music files that I have on the SD card as well, and they won't delete from the internal memory. It always says "could not delete" or "Delete operation failed". I have used the built in file manager, ES file explorer, and I believe I tried on my computer last night (it was getting late, but I remember at least trying). All fail to delete the files. I'm down to very few apps, none can be moved to the SD card, and I can't move much data otherwise. I harbor a suspicion that some hidden files are present on the internal memory, but I could be paranoid. I'm hoping to avoid a factory reset, but I fear that's the only option. I have a backup of the sd card, but not the phone's internals beyond what google saves in the cloud. I'm open to suggestions, and thanks in advance.
