[Q] Galaxy S3 battery drain - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could anyone tell me if there is anything wrong? I get these battery stats, and i lost about 20% in 2 hours with 15 min of spotify, a little internet (wifi/3g). Is that normal the screen usage? My brightness is very low, i disabled auto brightness. Should i try to flash a new firmware? Again, what is that lcdtest (about 10% of usage) ?

you've got facebook and chrome too buddy! they drain the battery well!

Same with me too..

You could try grenify and auto stats to help with aplication that drain a lot of battery

I have the same problem . I tried to wipe battery stats in recovery mode and the battery drain gone.

yes dude,
i do using greenify too, it's better than traditional battery savers or task killers.
u can use greenify, but to use the real potential of this app, you need root to full hibernation. look the apk developer instructions and tips.
best regards

Sgs2 is awake and draining battery

Hi guys,
Sgs2 here running ICS 4.0.3 baseband I9100xxlpw. The issue is that it's awake without any reason that I can see for a long period of time. Let the BBS screenshots show you:

What's annoying me is that I have a Tab 2 7.7 also running ICS 4.0.3 with more or less the same apps except for whatsapp which is on the Galaxy s2 and that Tab can easily run more than 24 hours. Anyone can help me diagnose? Please let me know what other info you need. Thanks!

Please post your question/request in the BBS thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
And attach the complete BBS dump/log file.
That's the way you will get best help.
1. Many BBS experts are watching at the BBS thread, but not at every Faq post.
2. Screenshots are nice, but the complete dump/log file is needed for a reliable analysis of what is happening on your phone.
Good luck !
thank you very much ! I should also mentioned that I turned off FastDormancy through *#9900#*
I uploaded the dump file to the original post as well. Thanks!

There is a thousand and one reasons to cause battery drain from misbehaving apps to the media scanner constantly running. To find the culprit download better battery stats from play store. Leave your phone as normal then post screen shots of results in the BBS thread where experienced users will help you out. All the best.

Use better battery stats to check the wakelocks and cpu spy to see if your device is deep sleeping

You can try to turn the phone off, remove the battery for 2 minutes and restart the phone. I think it is this "fuel_alarm" thing...

Don't know about the ROM you are running but on 4.2 jelly bean there is a setting to keep display on while charging. Check settings, display menu. Also daydream menu under display if it is on your ROM - it would display a clock screen when plugged in.

Battery % increase after a reboot, please help ...

i Have tried battery calibration but it does not work
please tell me some other ways to solve it
whenever i turn off the screen and put it in sleeping/standby mode (meaning when the screen is of and im not using it) ,
the battery decreases all of a sudden (displayed in the picture at point 1.)
so when i reboot it, the battery recharges it self, the battery percent increases about 20% after a reboot ( displayed in the picture at point 2.)
please help
this happens when i flash cyanogenmod roms , this happened on cm.10.1.3 and cm.10.2 :crying:
but whenever i go back to stock xperia rom, it is solved by it self.

i searched it online and the best solution was to wipe it through recovery
but when i tried doing this, there is no such option
many recoveries dont have this option anymore, only wipe dalvik cache is present there
therefore my recovery does not have the option to wipe battery states
Don't quote me. But I think the app ROM toolbox has that option
Chris B.
It's just a bug with these ROMS, I guess...

:good: thanks
i ll try it righ now
and ill tell if it worked or not

one question, should i wipe battery states after it charges 100% or before that ???
I recommend turning off the device while charging it. When it is full, boot up. Let the battery charge fully again while its plugged in. It should only be a cpl percent to charge fully. Then wipe batt stats. That's what I do anyways.

[Q] what does a kernel do?

so i heard flashing a kernel on stock rom can increase battery life.
well my i9300 is currently running Samsung's 4.3 and i was wondering if their was a kernel i can flash over this using twrp to get better battery life, more RAM or performance. i an new here but i really want to understand.
i wud prefer if i could get more RAM as touchwiz takes up so much RAM and the 1gig i hav tends to full up quickly....

If u rly just wan speed and performance. Go for stock android. Features, go for sammy roms. For ur case, i recommend u to flash a custom rom.

Kernel is the powerhouse of your phone.. You cab improve speed and sound quality with battery saving..Just go to particular thread.. see that it supports your phone and android version.. Download zip for
your particular version.. Copy it to your SD card and flash through recovery that's it...
Sent from my GT-I9300
The below image explains in simple terms what the kernel does:

And thread closed as there is no "best" kernel, only what works best for you. What you find the best kernel might not be the best for another due to differences in how you use the device
