Toaster help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I was reading about the benefits to rooting an android device so I decided to root my toaster. The hard part was figuring out how to port android to it in the first place but I figured it out using the different porting tools and the Asus tf700 kernel. So now that it's running android jelly bean can i use a universal Jb root method on my toaster and flash Cwm to it? If so a would it be possible for someone to port cm10 to my toaster for me? Please and thank you. I can provide specs of my toaster if need be.

[Q] make a ocs compatible kernel

For my main device we are trying to make a ics port (my device is the yp-g1) but were struggling on the kernel and ive seen a lot of people talking about modifying a gb 2.6.x kernel to work like a 3.x kernel for ics does that mean modifying a gb kernel?
How would we do that? Can u point me to a guide for this

No duh? From his post I'd say that's what he is trying to do.
@OP If you really wanted to take on a project you could look at patching your 2.6.x kernel to a 3.0 version. I don't think you are going to find a 10 step guide to porting the kernel if that's what you are looking for though.

Okay
I guess that that means taking a gb kernel and changing it but what would be needed to patch any ideas?
I asked a guy a while back and he said something about adding last-ksmeg, dsmg and ksmeg or something like that to an existing 2.6x kernel I asked him how I'd do that but got no reply.

[Q] quick kernel question

Hey guys i just downloaded and flashed Liquid Smooth Jelly Bean Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972331
I was wondering, i am very familiar with flashing roms, but I have never flashed a kernel. As i understand it is the same process as a rom, but i was wondering if I am able to flash using any kernel (written for the sgh-i717 model). If not, could anyone give me a few good kernels that would work with the Rom i flashed from the link i posted above? Any help appreciated

yeah, i want to know also
Yes, I think that's possible using ODIN. I'm not entirely sure though, maybe root is required. In any case, JellyBean is ICS with a bunch of useful improvements. So if you like ICS, you'll only like JellyBean more.
Yes it is possible and most of the times it does not require root. Google shipped roms for your phone and download the ics one.

Yes, guys u can. Just download the ICS stock rom for your device from the net and flash it via odin and it does not require root but there are chances of a BRICK.
If u want that guide for your device then contact me.

[Q] (Galaxy Player 3.6) Any way to upgrade to ICS or JB?

Hello,
I've ordered a Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 (note not the 4.0 or 5.0). Perhaps I will be happy running ginerbread, but I am curious, is there anyway at all to upgrade from ginerbread to ICS or jelly bean?
I'm pretty new to android in general, so if there was, what steps would have to be taken?
Thanks!
No way to upgrade.

nope

The 4.2 and 3.6 are pretty under-deved. If a good developer bought one, then there could be ICS or JB for them, but until that happens or you learn a lot about Android then no, there will not be ICS of JB for the 3.6. I'm not even sure if the 3.6 has root lol.
But the 4.0 and 5.0 CAN be upgraded?
Are you sure you can't get a vanilla ICS ROM and install it on a 3.6?
Yes 4.0 5.0 can be "upgraded"

The galaxy player 3.6 have root (US/EU) but it doesn't have cwm and custom rom. This device have a omap3 processor and a ICS/jelly bean 3.0 kernel has aviable for this processor but we don't have a dev for this.

No body is gonna stop you from trying, but doing so will only result in a very expensive paperweight.

What the problem is that you need to set up a device tree at cyanogenmod at Github we need a new kernel we need someone to sync the cyanogenmod sources we need someone to build it etc etc etc...
See here we have an idea :
