Is there a way to get the aosp browser to TW rom?
I have extracted it from CM rom and put in in system/app folder and change permissions & reboot, well didn't work. I also tried to install it normally but there was error parsing the package.
So how can I get it to work or is it even possible?
I also uninstalled Samsung's browser before I tried to get it work.
Edit: I successfully installed it as a system app. Unfortunately it fc's every time I start it when it tries to sign in to Google sites with my account. So it is unusable for now...
Bump
It needs to be compiled from source to work with the tw framework but we can't compile the tw framework because there are no sources.
Or in simpler terms, no

I am using the dsixda kitchen to build ROMs for my Desire HD. I have built a few ROMs now and on the whole they have worked OK. However there area few apps that are out of date and a few I would like by default. I know I can download the majority of them from the market but I would like them just there by default. I know apps get updated all the time so I will never get perfection so bear with me.
I have sucessfully added ASTRO, HandyCalc, ROM Manager SMS Backup & Restore and VISIONary+ and these work fine. I have also updated the .apk's for Facebook to 1.8.1, Google Maps to 6.0.3, Twitter to 3.0.0, YouTube to 2.3.4 & GMail to 2.3.5.2.
Now heres my problem - If I try to update Adobe Reader to 10.1.1 by replacing the AdobeReader.apk with the latest one it doesn't work. Once the ROM is built and installed I can see the .apk is there in /system/app however there is no icon in All Apps for Adobe Reader and I can't open .pdf's.
I also use Google Goggles & Skype, however if I add these .apk's to the ROM they appear to be installed and start OK however Goggles crashes as soon as the camera is started from the app and Skype lets you run through the initial setup but then says the app needs reinstalling.
Is there something I am missing or are there apps that can't be updated and others that can't be included in ROMs?

My guess is your using these apps in /system/app? If so keep in mind that most apps are built for /data/App. Sometimes applications act funny on system. If they are not on the system and on the data then that's just strange.

I was looking into that but I thought you needed extra script commands to get these recognised during 1st-time boot? At the moment I have these apps installed via the market, however I can't find where they are on the phone - I am using Astro to view/search and can't find the updated Adobe Reader, however it is installed.
I think I might be missing some fundamental stuff here...

/data/app
/data/app-private
Then you can also check and see if installed to the sdcard maybe?
/data is empty. On the sdcard there is an 'Android' folder and in here is a /data folder that has other folders (com.android.providers.media, com.facebook.katana, com.google.android.apps.books, com.google.android.apps.maps).
I have enabled hidden files in Astro (but it could be a limitation of Astro?). Astro has an application backup option that allows me to backup any of these added applications into .apk files and then restore them later.

/data shows empty when you try and view it with astro...
Root Explorer (and some others I'm sure) will show everything in there...

Thanks Going to be rebuilding shortly
I found this post whilst searching - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654739#
In there FireSokar mentions adding some lines to the update script. For the Desire HD it is an updater-script and the format/syntax is different can someone tell me what I need to add to the updater-script and where it should be put (at the very end, somewhere in the middle etc?)
Thanks

Is there any way to flash the AOSP apps to replace the Samsung stock apps either through CWM or Root Explorer?
One thing I did was I tried just replacing MMS. apk and Omacp.apk but it would freeze and then close after i tried to open a conversation, so just replacing the apks don't seem to work.

The Samsung apps require the Touchwiz framework, the AOSP apps require the AOSP framework. Running one on the other would likely require some significant modifications to the apps or framework files.
Ah, I see now. Thanks for the information!
I have recently changed my rom over to Cynogen mod tablet/hybrid and dislike most of the apps that replace the standard "messenger" "contacts" They are using google contacts and i tried a few different messenger apps like go sms ect but hate them equally. I have tried to backup and restore them with rom toolbox pro but cant seem to get them working. I was trying to find the apk files for them on source forge and any thread off xda but am unable to track them down. Does anyone know where to find them? Or is it possible to pull the files from a directory located on the phone?

You can download any rom you like and unzip or un-tar (use 7zip on your pc). Then go to the /system/app folder and see all the apk's there.
Stock contacts won't work on CM9 as the stock apps use the touchwiz framework.

I tried to install aosp browser which is only supported for nexus devices, And now i ended up without my stock browser, bcs installing of aosp required to unninstall my old browser first. Also tried to download browser apk from xda (blackhand's one i think) set up permissions and owner tru' the root Explorer, but firstly browser crashed with "unfortunatelly browser has stopped" error, but now it wont install at all, bcs i get parsing error everytime i try to install browser apk. SOLVED.After hours and hours searching the internet i finally found and downloaded original stock rom, in dedex format, and then extracted browser.apk from it. After that i put broswser.apk into sys folder of phone(via Root explorer) and set appropriate permissions , so that they look alike other's app's permissions (rw-r-r in this case), then i rebooted my phone and Voila everything was fine, my old stock browser was back <3. I just needed to dload and install ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter_blackhand1001.apk from this thread tnx to blackhand1001, so i could sync my boomarks from PC Chrome to stock browser on my phone.
Can u help me? I rooted my pap 5044, and deleted stock apps, but now that update came, i cant apply i cant install it. With 1.0.42 update, it also updates stock apps which i deleted. What can i do, how can i get those deleted aps?
I know anyone reading this will find this question weird but its not normally Trebuchet is the stock launcher but not in Carbon rom.
Phone : GT-19300
ROM : Carbon Nightly for GT-I9300 Android KitKat 4.4.2
Hi All,
Carbon ROM for GT-I9300 comes with "Launcher3" as there default launcher, it seems like a modified version of CM11
Trebuchet Launcher. It seems to be buggy in the rom and i just wanted to replace that with stock CM11 Launcher so tried a few things.
Trick 1
Set the default launcher as Apex after installing it.
I used Titanium Backup to do a backup of default "Launcher3" and then Uninstalled it.
Rebooted the system and then Carbon rom some how restored the Launcher3 back automatically.
Trick 2
Set the default launcher as Apex after installing it.
I used Titanium Backup to do a backup of default "Launcher3" and then set it as user app.
Rebooted the system and then Carbon rom some how restored the Launcher3 back as system app. :silly:
I mean why cant i simply get rid of the buggy Launcher3.
I have the CM11 Trebuchet Launcher as a flashable zip but flashing it conflicts with Launcher3 and that's why need to get rif of Launcher3 completely.
My last resort seems to be some how modify the rom zip and replace the Launcher3 and put CM11 Trebuchet in its place.
Is this even possible is the query here

Titanium seems to have issues uninstalling system apps unless you update your Superuser app to SuperSU from the Play Store and update the binary and reboot. Other options include using a root uninstaller app or, I think there might be a system app remover option in the Carbon Fiber settings, though I have not played with Carbon in awhile, so not 100% on that.
Thanks for you reply will check and revert.

No problem. If you want to know how to do it before you install the rom, then you just need to grab 7zip for the PC, and use it to open the rom zip as an archive then browse to /system/app and delete the Launcher3.apk and copy Trebuchet in. Important to open as archive and not to unzip and re-zip or you will have to re-sign it as just unzipping breaks the rom's signature and it will fail installation in recovery with an aborted message.
How can I check if the zip remains or is signed?
I hope this is not a dumb question.

Just open as archive and don't unzip it and you'll be fine. You'll know if it doesn't work if it fails to install. lol
