[Q] I've Erased My Setting By Accident... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and i wanted to erase some stuff I had. My phone was rooted and have a rom. But i've accidently erased my setting from my Titanium back up... All the sudden my setting disappeared and if i drag the thing down from the top of my phone and press the setting on top right coner, then my phone says "Unfortunately, system UI have stopped." I've gotten very frustrated idk why but i've hardcore reset my phone...Stupid me... My root is gone, my titanium backup is all gone now i can't even go to my setting... I've tried to plug it to my computer but i couldn't get to my setting to press mass storage check option, or even developer's option... Only way i can fix it is throughout downloading an app or something...
Here's a solution that I havn't tried which is downloading a odin app to root my phone without my pc and after rooting it, downloading the titanium backup and if any of you guys have any backups that is available for me to copy and restore your setting to my phone, then it might work... idk i'm very stupid so i don't know if that would work... PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Or is there a way to get another motherboard to my phone or like other parts and just replace to be like an new phone...? I don't want to spend over a $100 i'm very poor...

You said you're on a ROM? So just reflash the ROM abs problem solved. Of not just download superuser from play, root doesn't get erased with a factory reset just the app. As a final solution just Odin to stock and restart from scratch

No but thing is that i can't reflash my ROM because it's not rooted. Also if i wanted to get rooted and let say i use something like Z4root or framaroot, i can't install those apps into my phone because I can't change the developer's option from my setting... When i try to do with my computer, it won't recognize because I can't even go into the mass storage or pictures import or other settings... Is there any ways to download apps with just moving the folders?

Factory reset after root?

My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

DX2 Unroot

I just rooted my DX2 using the Droid3 one click root method. I don't like being rooted. I have frozen some apps and changed my boot animation and my fonts. All using ROM Manager. My question is, 3 actually,
1. How do I unroot?
2. Can I unroot without having to factory reset my phone?
3. Is there a way to back up my phone(settings, apps, contacts) without being rooted?
What is there not to like? Being rooted just gives u superuser permission you can stay stock and benefit from more apps and control and abilities to add to ur misfit toy

I am a noob at rooting. I was afraid to even take the leap. Now it seems that my phone is slower and laggy. I don't want to brick my phone trying to fix this.
Try using setcpu or ROM toolbox to set the CPU higher. Can also use auto task killer memory optimizer to free up ram on your phone. I'd say try that before unrooting. Not sure if you can unroot. I think you'll have to do a SBF

You can just SBF your phone, it's not as scary as it seems. The directions provided here on XDA are detailed and easy to follow.
Still, if it were me in you position, I'd not only keep root, but go ahead and install Recovery and do a backup. That way you don't have to lose your data.
I used to think the same thing. But keeping root has allowed me to load multiple roms and scripts, now I'm a flash addict! Flashing roms and running scripts is very easy when you follow the instructions on this forum. I suggest loading the liberty rom and trying it out before unrooting or sbfing.

feel free to pm me if u have something u can't figure out.
TIP-
FLASH ECLIPSE
U will almost instantly fall in love with how smooth it runs and how clean it is.
Or even try liberty. Both very solid.
And rooting and the mods u described u did(freezing/removing apps )I shouldn't slow ur phone down.
try clearing cache from stock recovery and see if that speeds things up for ya. It should.
U wont lose ANY data if u only clear the cache.
Breaking humpty dumpty is fine, remember to make nandroid so you can put your phone back to how you had it
Quite fun making a nandroid and trying out new ROMs and mods. You can rename nandroids too so you know which one is which, just put a "."But and then what ever you want after everything. So like 2011-12-23.Molten or something, just don't mess with the numbers.
Good luck!

Ok, so, I have flashed Eclipse to my phone. I downloaded Titanium backup to restore all of my data and apps but it isn't recognizing any of my backed up files. I don't understand. I even manually downloaded ADW again and went to restore my configuration and settings and it says there is no files. I know they are there I can see them when I connect my phone to the PC. Also when I open Easy Installer it isn't recognizing most of my APK files I have. Can you tell me what is going on please?

Try switching the files ur trying to restore to the other sdcard.
I suspect this is ur problem because eclipse comes with sd card flip
So I think that ti is looking in the wrong.place.
Just use a file explorer to move it all to the other sdcard
reboot and them try again
---------- Post added at 03:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:12 PM ----------
Also
U don't need "easy installer" I don't think
Just use a file explorer (like root explorer--HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP!)
And navigate to the apk u would like to install and tap it. Then use "package installer" to install it.
Although some apps(mostly system apps) u will need to manually "push"(copy&paste) to /system/app using root explorer(mount /system as rw first...little gray button on top in root explorer) then change permission to rw-r--r--. Reboot and app will be there.

Before Eclipse everything was being saved in my internal memory. When you said SD flip I thought maybe if I take what I want from internal and transfer to external it will be recognized. It worked. I am restoring all my data and apps. WOOHOO. Now I just need to find out how to get my music able to be controlled from the lock screen like gingerbread That is a feature I use daily as I use my phone as an MP3.

Might want to check the settings inside message app...
u could also try a message app from market...
For lockscreen music controls try something like power amp or another music app that comes with options for lockscreen widget/controls...maybe even try searching for "lockscreen music control"
Also..I am hoping nitro includes those controls in next release kinda like how liberty has it

ROM and CWM are together on my phone it came when I installed CM9.. I have not really used it though just to put in recovery mode. I have installed anything via internal SD from the PC to phone ... As it seemed prior the phone was having an issue so have avoided it. I am thinking just leave it as said and just don't use.
My phone is running smooth and great even battery life over the last couple days has doubled. I was just curious actually if TiBu would be the way to remove it IF I should need to.

Just delete it from /system/app or move it from /system/app to your sd card. This uninstalls it while keeping the apk should you want to use it again.

Just do this ^^^ and don't worry about anything.
The phone has absolutely no dependency on rom manager. Neither does your recovery. Cwm operation is independent from rom manager.
In CM9, ROM Manager cannot be uninstalled, but gives you an option to disable it. After that, it won't show up on the Apps Drawer again. That's what I did. If you did install any updates, you have to uninstall all updates and then the disable button will show up to be selected. HTH.

Is it ok to flash custom roms through CWM on my device?

I know what you might be thinking, he is asking a dumb question. Just hear me out. I obtained root using superoneclick 2.2. I then flashed the terra silent kernal to get CWM, I rebooted through CWM without backing anything up, yeah I know I made a mistake and I am upset about it, but to add insult to injury I preformed factory reset out of panic after that. Fortunately my device did not brick, but all the apps that were not bloatware were gone, some that were bloatware were gone like google play. I lost superuser as well. I thought that I would have to reroot, I tried that, but superoneclick said I was already rooted, I continued with the root anyways, it made no signifigant difference, I then found a way to download the superuser apk off of the internet, but it would not install. I then downloaded romtoolbox lite and ran root browser, I then came across the superuser apk and install in successfully and thus have superuser permissions. I had backed up my nand through CWM before successfully reinstalling superuser. But after I reinstalled it successfully and obtained root, I backed it up again. My question is, is it safe to flash custom roms like CM7 onto my device? As far as I know everything that I have reinstalled that were bloatware seem to be working ok. The only thing that does not work is the sound (not the speakers or the audio jack, the sound that can go into silent mode.) although I think that it may be due to the voodoo sound files that come with the terra silent kernel. If you need me to give you more information, I will try my best to provide it, but I am quite new to this sort of thing and I would rather just have my friend who has more expirience than I do at this look over it for me and what not, however he has only worked with htc as far as I know and it has been a while since he has done that. So, I will be more than happy to try and provide more info if needed. I am just skeptical on the matter since my device has been through alot.

Which player do you have? But yeah you can flash custom Roms on you player with CWM.
Here's a quick video on it around the 2 min mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aajKlCbemAs
Doing a factory reset erases all apps you've downloaded and not bloatware. That's why you back up before so you can restore your apps or settings later I use Titanium Back up https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en with the key. It's definetly worth it and normally the backups are a lot smaller and you get to choose what you want to back up and restore.
Also, if you want Superuser, you can get it on the playstore.
I have superuser, but I did not backup tgrough CWM before I rebooted through CWM. My friend I mentioned in my earlier posts saud that it would work. I have a 4.0 US and I think when I preformed factory reset, it only got what was on the custom kernel I had on instead of the stock. I got superuser through blackmart alpha b/c google play was removed from my device.
Sent from my YP-G1 using xda app-developers app
well yeah, as long as the ROM is for 4.0 you should be good.
---------- Post added at 10:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 PM ----------
You can get playstore here http://goo.im/gapps/
You sure? Because I rebooted through cwm without backing up my nandvthe first time I opened it, will that cause problems even though I gained root and have superuser working? I also preformed factiry reset with terra silent kernel installed. What will that do?

Here's a video that talks about roms and kernels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF01lhfUwfk&feature=youtube_gdata_player but really kernels aren't bad only if you flashed one that isn't compatible to your player which.if you do it could brick it.

So it should be ok to install custom roms even though I rebooted w/o backing up my nand and then preforming factory reset with a custom kernel installed? I will probably have my friend show me how to flash custom roms, but is there a stock kernel I could flash back to through odin? Also does the kernel reponsible for managing bloatware? Because that would explain why some of my apps like google play were gone. I just do not want to make anymore stupid errors that could ruin my player, as I worked for every penny to buy it.

You should be ok even if you don't do a back up. Stock kernel and rom should be around the forums and bloatware is affected by the rom. Maybe you erased a system app and didn't reboot? that's usually why I get those messages. But seriously its hard to brick your player it could happen but as long as your careful you should be good. If your friends how to do it then he should show you that way you have a better understanding. And doing backups are mainly for after you flash something because you're most likely going to do a factory reset (erase user apps not preinatalled apps from rom) and so you can restore user apps with saved settings and progress. You could go without, but you're going to have to start from scratch which sucks! Byt good luck!

My friend looked my device over and told me that I would be ok. And that rebooting unistalls all google based app or something like that (He also told me that he should have told me that before I even accessed CWM. My googlesearchbox app kept failing and since I just use google as my browser homepage, I just deleted it using a no bloatware app. My friend said that rebooting through CWM without backing anything up and then preforming factory reset with a custom kernel installed would not do anything that could potentially ruin my player, I will soon have him show me how to use CWM to flash a custom rom and all that jazz
.

Haha ok if anything Google and this forum can most likely solve your problems! Good luck

I all that happened when I rebooted through CWM without backing up my nand and then rebooting and then after that did was delete all of my google based apps (including bloatwarle) as well as all the apps I installed myself?

Yeah that's what factory reset does

I backed up my system and my apps through titanium, does that mean that everything (including all the data on my sdcard) is backed up?
Sent from my YP-G1 using xda app-developers app
I also deleted the googlesearchbox apk.

It's saved on your internal memory which wont be erased but yeah once it's backed up as long as you backed up both apps with data you're fullyy backed up. your sd card is only touched to read and install you rom anything there is no touched.
So if I was to flash a custom rom, all the stuff on my sd card would be safe? And is it ok that I deleted the googlesearchbox apk?

Everything on your micro sd are safe. And it's ok to erase google search, I erase it too

Ok, so I tried to install google Play again by installing the apk, but it needed something else too, since the app was crashing alot, I could not get rid of it, I then saw that my internet browser was gone off of the bottom bar, I then tried to preform factory reset, I was terrified, but but I restored a backup nand through CWM. My question is, since I restored a backup, everything should be ok? And how do I get Google Play back?

The link for google apps from the link should be like your android version so if you have gingerbread look for the ones with GB. When you restore it will put it back to the state it was when you backed it up.

Rooted Canvas HD/a116 - factory reset

Hello guys,
I need little help. I have rooted my phone as per instructions on youtube and upgraded to 4.2.2. but due to some reasons the OS keeps crashing on me. Also when i run root checker it says root access denied.
Now, I wish to factory reset the phone so that i can try rooting it again. Can anyone tell me how to do factory reset using CWM and will it wipe google play and stuff? I am ok with loosing data on SD card, its just songs and videos.
Pls help guys.

Bro, u need not factory reset your phone in order to root it. And if its saying root access is denied it means your phone is not rooted. U haven't mentioned if you have already installed CWM or you still need to install it, but if you already have, then doing a factory reset is very easy. Switch off your phone and go into recovery mode(power+ volume down button together for 10 secs), then it opens into recovery, u have directly select factory reset and press yes when asked for confirmation. It will reset your phone.
And if you do factory reset you won't lose any data from your SD card. It will be retained in their respective memories, unless specifically formatted.
You will lose all your downloaded applications and everything. You need to login into play store and download all the stuff again. If that's OK with you you can go ahead. If you want to save your applications and their data, then it would be good to use Titanium Backup application and backup everything before you reset your phone.
Hope this helped you. Don't forget to hit thanks

its for rooting, you just have to run a batch file.
Bro...if you factory reset, yes indeed all your applications will be reset to default. You won't lose Google play store. Its an application which comes in any android stock rom by default. What you are going to lose are the applications and games which you have downloaded from the playstore.
Hence in my previous reply I suggested to you to get Titanium Backup app from play store and take a batch backup of all your apps. Then you can reset your phone without any worries!
Hope this solves your issue. Happy to help
