[Q] Quick question please for anyone active here! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am certainly running Cyanogen 10 on my Galaxy S2..I havent checked the forums for a long time and i noticed that Jelly Bean has became more active..Cyanogen 10.1 isnt ready so i will just use the stock one since all i care is about battery life when its not doing anything without WiFi destroying my battery as CM 10 is.
According to this thread which i cant post in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Does the the original poster has the gathered sources at the top?
Reading through the last 30 pages, impossible to read 1180 pages..LSS seems to be the best choice and i see he has it there so i am assuming he does.
My question is about the modem/kernel etc..Do i need to change anything? CM 10 has some stuff required for itself, will i run into any issues ?Been 2 years since i actively changed ROMS and played around with the phone so i am a bit skeptical/dont wanna brick it because of uncompatible stuff apart from a few months back where i just changed to CM 10 to check what its all about.
CM is quite good but there seems to be something wrong with the WiFi, sometimes its not strong enough and eats my battery faster than any ROM before it so any good change aka Jelly Bean change is welcome, hence me asking

Oh well, it flashed just fine, endless bootloop that was fixed by clearing data etc on stock recovery mode.

Resurrection v9.4

Hi guys,
I have couple of questions about Resurrection v9.4 ROM but according to my limited access I can't post them on it's dev page.
First of all I should thank Westcrip for his fantasitc job ! even if its not 100% perfect but its good enough to stop you using other ROMs !
1. Battery Life : I had a better battery life on v9.3 but after updating to latest version the battery drains so quickly, I tried to decharge/recharge and even reset my batery stats but these didn't help either.
2. This is defo not a big problem but I can't install couple of apps like 'London Underground' which is defo compatible with ICS, it gives me error, sometimes complains about installing on SD and sometimes just fails without any specific reason.
3. There are some FC closes but I couldn't replicate all of them, but one of them happens everytime which is not important at all but maybe its better to mention for later bug fixing, everytime that I try to select infinite scroll from Nova Launcher its crashes and couple of times, even I had to remove battery to restart the phone but when OS comes up there is no problem with a functionlity and it works smooth and without any prob, it ONLY happens when you tick the box.
I am still playing with it and can't decide to stay with 9.4 or downgrade to 9.3.
Again I should thank Westcrip and whoever helps him to develope this remarkable ROM.
You're using a ROM based on a leaked, buggy, unofficial Samsung ROM and are having problems? No wai! It's good of you to list that detailed bug report though, maybe mail it off to Samsung for analysis? The battery part especially is very thorough.
I am not complaining about buggy custom ROM ! I know what is custom ROM and what should I expect from that ! I raised those issues based on last two versions comparison.

Battery stats does nothing for battery life .
Sone roms/kernels drain more battery stick with the one you get good battery life from upgrade does not always mean better .
2. This is defo not a big problem but I can't install couple of apps like 'London Underground' which is defo compatible with ICS, it gives me error, sometimes complains about installing on SD and sometimes just fails without any specific reason.
Its the rom

Remarkable and you would not be posting problems .
One of the problems with leaked buggy beta test rom ICS is that problems are varied and seemingly random as witnessed by thousands of posts .

Fair enough maybe I should have post it on Q&A (Thanks for moving it to the right) but about the rest of your comments sorry its just your idea !
Maybe there are random and different problems but when you use one device with exactly same baselines and get new errors it means new changes made those new problems. There are over 750 pages of comments and questions under the resurrection ROM and developers actually use them to fix the bugs if you dont raise the problem just because its just based on a leaked / buggy / ... ROM then how on earth they can find the issues, if you dont want or can't help no one forced you to do so, there will be someone with answers.
You were right if you I would say hey this ROM is buggy or why this doesn't work ! This new build just released two days ago and I am trying to compare v9.3 and v9.4

[Q] I'm after a lightweight, long lasting ROM

Hi all,
First post, so please be kind
I currently have RR 3.1.2 and SuperNexus build5 installed on dual boot on my GT-I9300. Although both are good ROMs, neither fullfill my requirement of a couple of days of battery life. My original ICS Samsung ROM would last this long. It wasnt until JB update that I started playing with new installations due to my bat life being almost 1/2'ed! What I'm now thinking is possibly to keep RR ROM or go back to Samsung JB ROM on main boot, and on 2nd boot install a very lightweight ROM that will be good at preserving bat life. I need this for days away using GPS mapping/tracking software together with photos. Energy HD sounds good, but hasnt been updated for sometime and is ICS 4.0.4. Before I go and install that, are there any more upto date similar ROMs around? Of course, I could always go back to Samsung stock ROM on 2nd boot, but am aware, its got a lot of bloatware installed.
Thanks for your advice!
Dave

Thanks for the reply JJEgan, very useful link to all the ROMs. So it looks like SuperNexus ROM should be long lasting, being AOSP, oh!
Am I going to have to try all 23 other AOSP ROMs and work it out myself  Think I'll start at CM10. This might take sometime!

You should also search for "better battery stats" apk around here, and check what is the cause of your power consumption - the ROM almost never is, usually it is a group of apps that keep the device from getting into deep sleep. GPS locators and other anti-theft programs are on that list, also programs that try to update often over network. MyProfiles was also creating a large problem on my CrisKelo-based configuration. On certain hardware configurations with permanent data connection there might be other problems with fast dormancy on network and other stuff.

NeatRom questions

Hello,
I'd like to share some doubts about this rom, and get the anwsers if its possible. I know this should probably go on the rom's thread but I cant post on developing yet. Yesterday I installed XWLS8 on my phone but the result was definitely bad; I had huge battery drains and what I thought it was a media bug, media was consuming more than screen. I tried fixing some stuff by freezing what I thoght it was making this drain, but it didnt make it any better. Also read some things about compiling something that Google wrote on some code for 4.2, but that was dangerous for now, as Im completely noob.
Then I looked for near stock roms, and found NeatRom. I thought it was a good option. Flashed but same thing happened with media, I started thinking my phone had something wrong or that I dindnt flash correctly. Is this possible? I had this same media thing happening on both roms + overheating.
Hours later I was decided to apply my backup and go back to stock ics as what Im looking for is battery legth not extreme customization. But surprisingly NeatRom is not consuming that much; in fact it seems to go pretty well. Can it happen? Could it have stabilised or something similiar?Media has just consumed about 2% wich I consider normal.
Some more stuff I'd like to know: In the rom's thread theres posted a zip file with a fix for media scanner by Mr. Greg but its for the leaked rom. As theyre quite similirar I think, should I apply it?should I wait to see if I dont have any more problems with media stuff?
Finally, Id like to know if there's a kernel that consumes less battery on this rom, I've been considering dorimanx or siyah but I prefer waiting for someone who knows advice.
Thank you very much and sorry for wasting your time.

[Q] Battery Hunger and slowness after Rooting.

Hello People,
As you can see im new to this community, i hope i won´t bother you so much.
I got an S3 myselft and unlocked it right away before even using it. Did use Samsung S3 Toolkit , which i think its a great tool and this forum is a huge palace full of incredible geniuses so i´m really grateful for what is has done for me already.
As i stated in the title i´ve been getting serious problems after rooting my phone , everything working fine. or i think it is. But the UI in general became slow as hell , it crawls on the floor , pressing the menu butom to go back takes from 5 to 8 seconds to respond onto something , no matter what , oppening applications is not that slow but switching pages or screens is LAGGY as hell. I tried full wipe , cache wipe , before and after flashing.
Actually using this rom I9300UBEMA1_I9300UVOELL1_ARO its the Non branded version of my Local Firmwar (Argentina) , the kernel i use if the one that comes with Samsung S3 toolkit 7.0.0 the 4.1.2 unrooted version for JZ054K.ELLA ( file name :boot-insecure-ella-GTI9300 )
The original Firm and kernel the phone had was the 4.0.4 "Personal" Branded BLG6 Kernel.
I know this phone is already known as a battery killer , but i didn´t spected to be that kind of slow to crawl device. I´ve already tried multiple task killer apps like AutoKill or ES task manager , Better battery stats to check battery drain but still cannot find a reason. Tried Juice Defender Ultimate on Extreme settings. And did nothing to my battery life.
Then Looking for some Customized roms i found out 2 that took my attention :
One of them is Omega and the other is Android Revolution HD, which one of these are going to have a possitive effect on performance gain + battery economy without overkilling phone capabilities ? . Is that the answer? or are there any real app / patch that could really resolve this issue.
Well people im sorry if this question sounds quite stupid or bothers some people but i already researched more than 200+ hours and i couldn´t find the exact point where i should be heading to solve this.
I would start with a fairly, near to stock Rom, I won't suggest any, just go to development and read up on the Roms, but also try a custom kernel.
Don't use task killers, they are counter productive if not used right.
I would also suggest going through what you have enabled, the smart features can heavily affect battery, also poor signal, and it might well be you need to check your modem (baseband) and see if there are other more suitable ones.
Keep reading and searching and you will develop a good understanding of various ways to make this phone fly, just don't rush things.
And, backup, backup, backup! Enjoy
Better Battery Stats and Greenify from the market may help .

He's right, try flashing a more popular widely used stock firmware like the XXELLA rom or the recently released ones. Also do post screenshots of BetterBatteryStats.. Kernel wakelocks are major reasons why battery drains. Often IM+Social Media apps use network data in the background and are culprits behind wakelocks.
I for one can confirm the Facebook native app as being a major contributor to the problem.
You should also check if "Fast Dormancy" is supported by your carrier or not? FD is by default enabled on the S3, disabling can save substantial amount of battery life. You can do so by downloading "Fast Dormancy Toggle App" from PlayStore.
As for custom roms, it really depends on user experience. I have used Omega rom and it easily lasted a day and half for me with good usage.
Currently I'm running CyanogenMod 10.1 and it lasts me 2 days

Try custom roms

My s2 is lagging like crazy...

Okay, so I have s2 i9100. I have installed neatrom lite version, it is jb 4.1.2. I have fully nuked phone before installing this rom and installed dorimanx kernel afterwards. By using stweaks i choose performance profile for my phone. Even though I have disabled animations from developers menu, and I do not use any applications which would eat a lot of processing power, my phone is very slow. It was not this slow before. I mean honestly, every single damn move is with at least a minimal lag, freeze or something. What the hell is going on here? Does JB 4.1.2 on S2 is supposed to be like that.
You guys, I need some tips from your experience write here. I really have like no time for testing roms and maybe you can help me out by recommending some kind of rom, which would not have **it load of bugs and would not lag as much as this one does. I heared about CM 10.2 4.3JB but I am afraid about bugs and all that, so I think it would be a better idea to stick with 4.1.2 or 4.2.2. So, any tips? I would really appreciate some. Thanks you guys.
I highly doubt it is caused by your rom, because almost every user is satisfied Neatrom (me included).
What kernel do you use? And what happens when you use another profile than Performance?

Dorimanx kernel. Same things are happening.
Maybe my phone is damaged or something. A few days ago i dropped it and it was a little bit wet, but it did not turned of or anything and I can use it. About a few hours ago, something weird happened: phone was at idle, sleeping and out of nowhere that sound, when you start charging your phone appeared and backlight turned on... No reason, just happened.
Anyway, do you have any recommendations how to get rid of these issues?
Pull battery out now put in hot place in bowl of rice and leave it there for a week. Water damage...probably mb replacement now mate. Water and s2's dont mix.
I9100/I9300
Well, I used to have a rom that was causing me trouble after I dropped my phone. The battery for example was terrible after it. A full wipe and a fresh install of a new rom (although I'm pretty sure you've made a good choice with Neatrom) cleared these problems.. Maybe you can try that?
Edit: and if you try another kernel?
