Why extended battery? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Why purchase a 5-7000mah battery and add the bulk to the phone? Why not purchase an oem spare battery and just swap. Every night I place my phone on the charger and my 2nd battery in the cradle. I use 12-14gb/mo. And never waste 2 batteries (5300mah) in one day. I'm not bashing the people who do buy them just looking for what their reason behind it is, also, you're limited in protection.

I used to get extended batteries with all of my phones. It's getting better nowadays though, the GS4 seems to get me through a day fine enough. However If it weren't I would definitely opt for an extended battery. The girth of some of them isn't that ridiculous to where it's a huge trouble (I mean people use otterboxes all the time and those are enormous) It's a lot more convenient that seeing it low and having to swap, then having to recharge both batteries especially if you don't have an external charger.

Exactly. I suppose you right.

Yeah, no need for ext batteries with the GS4. I'm using Clean ROM and with less then .5% battery drain sitting idle and when in use i get 5-6 hours of screen time... whats the point?

Not everyone is near power every night (or whenever). I like to kayak/hike/camp and I don't always have power available, so I carry extra juice (usually extra OEM batts) when I'm out & about. Weak signal areas will also burn up a battery pretty fast.

Yeah i hear you, but i would just do an extra battery not an extended i meant. They last so long they are like extended batteries.

Does anyone have an extended battery?
I used an extended battery on my Bionic just to get through the day, with the SG4 I can sometimes make it almost 2 (not quite). This isn't a problem for me since I charge every night. But on the long trips the extended battery was great, so does anyone have one for the SG4? and if so which ones and how long do they last (under normal usage conditions compared to stock battery)?

I'm at 13 hours with 20 percent left with roughly 4 hours of screentime. My extra battery is fully charged just sitting there ready to get popped in, honestly I can say, I never actually charge my phone just keep swapping batteries.

Why get an extended battery over multiple stock batteries?
You don't want to have to deal with charging 2+ batteries, especially if you don't have an external charger
You don't like the idea of having to swap batteries twice a day, every day because you use your phone a lot
Don't feel like breaking the tabs on the rear panel by taking it on and off almost every day
Don't want to have to remember to grab an extra battery when you go out for the day
You use a case, and it's impractical to take the case off all the time to swap batteries
You can't turn off your phone to swap batteries because of apps you are running
Hate the battery dying at the worst possible time
Hate seeing the battery percentage drop so quickly
Find it difficult to walk around with a phone and extra battery
And so much more

The worst part about extra battery and actually swapping them is the case bit.. I absolutely hate having to keep removing this extremely form fitting Speck candyshell case just to swap batterys.. And yes removing the back of the phone gets annoying fast..
Samsung likes to market extra batteries and the charging station but they don't make it easy to swap them.. What gives?

This times a million. I'd rather have the extra bulk than to have batteries in every pocket of my pants or shorts. It gets annoying really fast. Carry too many and you'll forget which one is charged and which one isn't.

I've experienced both with my Galaxy S3. Had total of 3 batteries and then switched to the Zero Lemon extended battery. The extended battery was great, but once I took that off and put back the original battery. Man, I was missing out on how light it was.
After getting my Galaxy S4, I decided to just get the Anker 2 battery kit. I prefer the lightness (w/ case) of the phone compared to the brick. I don't mind switching out the batteries and I find a case that's durable enough to be taken on/off often without any issues (UAG case was a champ).
During the work week I only carry one extra battery with me and it's in my wallet. Also, I never get confused on which battery to use. During the weekend I bring my backpack with me and have a portable charger along with a dock/battery charger that I can use if needed to charge up the used battery. So I'm always ready and never run out of juice.
Obviously if you don't want to deal with all that, just get the extended battery. I just prefer having a slim phone and already had some stuff that I might as well use.

If you're camping and kayaking, and generally enjoying the great outdoors, I imagine you're doing it with friends/family. How much data / screen time are you really burning through on these trips? Just throw it on Airplane mode when you don't need a signal and forget about it. The battery life on these things is amazing. Clearly beats my old GNex's horrid battery life.

Why not? Some people aren't concerned about the additional bulk that's added to the phone as long as they don't have to worry about charging their devices frequently. The s4 isn't bad on battery life, but if you can put a bigger battery on the phone and have the battery life extended by 2-4 times, then that's one less issue some people have to worry about. I'm typically near a power source, whether it be at home, work or in the car so I could just plug in my phone if needed.

I had a Powerskin for my Thunderbolt. I really like that type of solution. Use it on travel days, then just take it off when you don't need it.
Now, I just have an EasyAcc power bank for travel in my bag. Done. There is almost nothing I could imagine doing where it is not a good solution. If you are camping, etc., then your phone is not in your pocket...its in your bag. If you are flying, then you have a bag. If you are driving, then you have power.
The only thing I could come up with is a day at an amusement park. And then you are not using your phone...because...roller coaster.

Just got my anker x2 replacement battery's in the mail =D waiting to see how long they last compared to the stock battery

Cuz I don't want to have to manage 2 batteries. And the s 4 is too thin imho. The added bulk makes for a sturdier grip.

Looking forward to your review. I will also buy one in case its worth once I have my rhodium. Cheers..
an extra 500mah's does seem nice for a few quid, ill hold out for your review also.
post for review curious myself as I got about a day out of this thing although I did talk for 3 hours on it
I would be real leary and real careful about buying a battery that inexpensive, even if it is 2000mah. If its protection circuit is not good or even worse, non existent, that TP2 is nothing but a grenade in your pocket. I know I'm not risking a no name Chinese battery in any device I know. You just never know what you are getting for your money.

So how about some impressions after some time? Is it good, it doesn't make your TP2 explode?
I just ordered mine so I'm curious to find out your opinion.
Ive been using this for over a week.... no explosions yet... im getting 20-30% more life out of my phone... the battery packaging is legit and the battery is high quality... lets just say now i cant even remember where i left the oem battery lol
Received mine yesterday
So far so good (89% after 10 hours and I have push email)
2000mAh Andida
Received the 2000mAh. Put it to the test with Coreplayer in a loop playing Coraline fullscreen sound off. The Andida lasted 130 minutes first charge, 155 minutes second and third charge.
The stock 1500mAh HTC lasts 220 minutes. Quite a difference. But for € 7,50 including shipping you won't hear me complain. It's still a whole lot cheaper per minute than the other leading brands.
BTW, I haven't tested it yet but it seems the 2000mAh Andida provides longer stand-by times. Will test that starting today. If so, someone have a theory as to how Li-Ion batteries perform different under different circumstances? If there is a theoretical possibility that is
Packaging was quite professional I must say. Apart from that, the battery doesn't heat up, not during charging and not while it was put to the test.

A higher stand-by time but lower overall energy density is unlikely given they are both lithium ion. It's possible there are more impurities or something of the sort in the Andida battery, giving a higher internal resistance (meaning it has a high voltage drop-off when under full load). That would indicate a very poor manufacturing process and be a surprise.
This thing about these batteries having 2000mAh is total BS. I've tested for my own amusement a few of these cheap batteries under a few different testing regimes (using This). They can squeeze a few mAh by stripping down the packaging and safety stuff, but not much. All battery manufacturers are limited by simple chemistry. In this case, Lithium Polymer. If you want a high Ah battery, it will be bigger.

I have not done an official minute test but I feel exactly the same about this battery. Price, packaging is good but not even close to 2000mah of use time under data usage. Standby time is pretty good but who cares since we use the phone for data or else you wouldn't have a touchscreen $500 device. I am not saying it was a waste of money since it is a second battery...but definitely not an extended battery.

Oh I dont know why but I thought it used more battery every time it connected to the internet every 15 to 30 minutes to check for email (what ever non-push is called). Well I was mistaken. Thanks. Guess thats a whole nother topic which I dont care enough to start..
I just purchased this battery btw. From my experience I purchased a 3rd party battery from china for my g1. I had no problems with the battery I could see a difference. It lasted at least 6 months until I got rid of the g1 for the tp2.
I bought the g1 extended battery on ebay for $13. It was the exact same battery that fommy.com was selling for $40. Im sure china is where most resellers get there items from but they probably slap sticker over the original and call it theirs.
I see this as cutting out the middle man and saving myself the cost.
i would definatelly never trust a battery that cheap, especially in something that:
a) is kept in a pocket (see pic :)
b) is ususlly left to charge over night.
something that happened to someone using a chineese no-brand extended battery in an HTC Touch Pro:

Has anyone else had any issues with the temp of this battery being warmer that the norm... (oh and ps... who really puts there phone in their back pocket... thats crazy...)

I purchased and they charged my credit card 11/27, here it is 12/28 and still no batteries. There is no tracking number for these when they were sent as they didn't let me know that the way I'd paid I couldn't get a tracking number.
What I don't understand is I get a lot of things from DealExtreme and they ship from China and it's always trackable for bulkrate shipping. So, what gives with this company?

are you using a extended battery??

i'm looking to get a extended battery that is better that the standard g1 battery but i don't wanna convert my G1 in a gigantic brick...i dont mind a few more milimeters of tickness on the g1 but not too much...for the people that are using extended battery which will you recomend?
It's like saying I need to get a shot, but not with a needle. It will add thickness, if you don't like it get one of the 1700 batteries from the thread below.
I didn't mind the extra girth for a two day battery life. But right now I'm back to stock because it fell off my bed and the cover broke on the bottom.

i concur. i just got my new battery a couple days ago. a 2200 mAh. yes, it did make my g1 into a brick (in size, not functionality), but i would choose actually being able to use my phone over size anyday.
I got a Seidio 1400mAh battery. The brand is reputable, the use I get from it is noticeably more, and the size is the same as the stock battery.
My stock battery started to bulge out last month and wouldn't last even two hours on a charge. I'm not able to use my phone as much as I'd like during the day, but I can take it off the charger at 6am and still have over 30% charge at 9pm. I don't call, but I use lunch and break time to check up on facebook and newsfeeds.
I use Andida 1600mAh Battery. It works much longer than the default one while not making your phone bloated (it's the same size as original). And best of all it's pretty darn cheap! I was quite skeptical about it at first, but I got it just because how cheap it was. And it works like a charm!
oh well so i ordered this morning a 2200 mAh battery for $24...i'll be here anytime in the next two days...so should i do first charge the battery or use the battery till it die and then do the calibration?
Same with all Li batteries, drain, then charge fully.
I am using an Andida 1600mah battery as well. But I would like to ask whether there is any other battery that does not require a case covering? I just dont like to turn my phone into a brick. What is the max without requiring a bigger case? 1700mah? or 1800mah? Thanks.
ok so i just got my new extended battery to be honest is not that thick (still pits on the original pouch)and i like the new backcover...actually is a diferent one that the ones i saw on the pictures...i put it on my G1 and it has %53 left so i'm gonna kill it and recharge...awesome...

I got 2 batteries, both do not charge. I just got a replacement from the seller, the replacement does not charge and a lot of people are experiencing the same thing.
.
I too brought the 2600mAh battery off of eBay. Cost me £12.00 which is around $20 I believe. Funny thing is, when I recieved it, it said 2850mAh on the battery. Now I don't know if it's a genuine HTC battery or not (sure as hell looks close enough) but it definately does the job. And as far as the size goes, as the previous poster said, you get used to it. Plus I find it a bit easier with the extra size when typing on the device. I would advise it to anyone. Makes your phone last a hell of a lot longer. Small, but very worthy investment.
Small question though: I don't know if I had a dodgy battery before, but this new one seems to charge in around half the time of the stock battery. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me? I just thought I'd ask
Wow this batttery is a beast...my settings using the original battery was alway on edge, the lowest brightness setting, maybe a few text a few minutes talking listening music for like 2 hours and by the time I got home it will be under %10 this is barely using my phone now I have it on 3g using wifi whenever is possible texting browsing playing videos from youtube medium settings on brightness playing games listening to music for 2 hours and by the time I got home is at %55 and when I tried to kill the battery for a new recharge it just don't wanna die my last charge last over 24 hours...I'm so glad that I get this new battery finally I can use my phone without being attached to the charger....I'm planing to get me a bluetooth headphones...
I got a White G1, I bought a 2300 mAh Extended battery from ebay for about 23 USD, with the black battery door, but after months of abuse, the door cracked on me till a point where it just wouldnt stay on my g1 with my hand behind it ... What is the name of the battery?
And for the rest who bought the batteries, can you please state what it the seller's name or the battery brand? I'm thinking of trying one of those large ones Thanks!
I have the Seidio Innocell 2600 mAh battery. I like it now, but the bulge took about a week to get used to. It's great not having to worry about charging the phone halfway through the day (my stock lasted 6-8 hours tops).
The only complaint I have about the bigger battery cover is that it is easier to crack and break. I have a crack in the lower left corner of my cover, and I'm worried it will continue to grow. I've looked on eBay and Google for replacement battery covers, but I can't find any for sale without a battery.

I too can vouch for this. I have a crack in the exact same place. I also have lost the small lip like thing at the top where the back cover becomes in line with the keyboard. Only the lip part is gone though. If I find a cover available without the battery I'll be sure to post it.
I picked mine up from Gadget Garage off of ebay for around $20. I'll also vouch for the batteries themselves. It adds thickness but the change in battery life makes it worth it imho. Mine has been up 17 hours and I'm still at 50% without charging at all.

That's not a real Amaze Battery... look at the posting info, it's only 3.7V. the Amaze comes with a 3.8V battery. Just use your old Anker sensation battery. it's the same thing.
I would really like to know if its worth getting since the stock battery is anorexic... and how would 3.7 volts affect the phone. Can it break it?
The phone will be undervolted which isn't bad seeing as how many kernels offer undervoltage

I email Anker and asked them about the voltage difference...
Hello, I have a quick question about the battery for the HTC Amaze 4G.
The OEM battery from HTC is listed as 3.8 volts, but your battery is listed as 3.7. Is there a reason why your battery has a lower voltage?
Could this affect the operation of my phone?

Their response was...
Thank you for contacting us.
I just heard back from our tech team that there is no actual performance difference between 3.7v and 3.8 v and it will not affect the performance of the battery.
Please do not worry about it.
Please let us know if there is anything else we may help. Any time you need us, we are always here.

I don't have a problem with that response. Since all of the components in the phone run at either 3.3v or 1.7v, that .1 of volt should have no affect on the operation of the phone.
If for some reason it does, just return it. They are reputable and have been selling for awhile.
It's not like they are selling these out of the back of a van.
Off Anker topic... But if it's a 3.8v 1730mAH battery, then it's the exact same as the Evo 3D isn't it?
Anker battery
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005M19IZU
I bought the anker battery and charger from Amazon and in all honesty the battery seems to work much better than the OEM one provided by HTC. 1800mAh and seems to provide a good backup battery. The external charger is a neat touch since one does not have to charge the batteries through the one all the time.
I just purchased two Anker batteries with a charger combo for $12.
Here's the link:
http://amzn.com/B005M19IZU
At first I thought that it sounded too good to be true but for $12 it's worth the risk.
It arrived today and at first glance I had a bit of buyers remorse because the charger didn't have any instructions and the charging pins seemed to move around too freely. It just felt cheap overall. The two batteries that it came with say that they are for the EVO 3D 4G as 3.7v and 1800mAh. Yet I let the batteries charge and I daringly put it in my phone. Voila! Powered right up and works just as well as the OEM battery. I haven't drained it yet so I have no idea on how long the battery will last. My expectations? 180 mAh 3.7v battery vs the 1730mAh 3.8v OEM battery... I'm not expecting too much difference to be honest. I'll keep you all posted with an edit in say about 48 hours.
A premature opinion if you ask for it... is it a viable solution for a primary battery? I wouldn't think so.
Is it a viable solution as a backup since we can't charge via 5.0.2.6 recovery? You're damn right!
Another note:
Not sure if it's related to the battery or not but I've had two random reboots with this battery installed. So... perhaps if someone else has experienced something similiar there just might be an issue there. Time will tell.
I bought from mugen the evo3D 1950mah I'm on my second cycle so far not impressed so far at all. The difference between the stock battery and this one is only 200 mah but it almost seems like the 3D battery drains faster

Damn!!!! I bought for 17 two weeks ago!!!!
Just got my Amaze last night. I put my Anker battery that I bought 2 weeks ago for my sensation in it. Unplugged the phone at 9:45 AM, and when I got home at around 8:00 i had something like 15-20% charge remaining. That was after using my phone through out the day to place a few phone calls, constantly checking texts and facebook, and also doing some ebay browsing looking for accessories for it. Must say, I LOVE my Anker battery.
Solid opinions?
I'm planning on buying one (1900mAh). I heard that initial it appears to lose it charge then slows down but still offering good battery life. However I'm a bit unsure.
By how much more hours will this thing pack compare to stock?
Also I hope (and it probably will) increase battery life once we see Cyanogenmod and better kernels. First we have to get through S-Off.
I got the 1950 today is my third cycle, in my previous post it was my second and I said it was terrible, after the 3rd cycle I've seen a big improvement. 12 hours and 12 mins off charger. I started at 100 percent. Right as I went into work. For 8 and 1/2 hours I had airplane mode on, being that WiFi calling doesn't work, had WiFi turned on, and listened to Pandora the whole time.

Just bought this battery for mine. It does not seem to get a full charge. Charging on device only get up to 94 % or so. Any one else have that problem?
edit: meant to reply to Binary. I've got this same battery kit: http://amzn.com/B005M19IZU
I've had this same kit for a few weeks. I have the same complaints about the charger pins but whatever, your hands will learn how to do it quickly after a couple times. Now I just rotate the batteries about every day and a half. On the first few charges I was barely getting more than the stock battery. After a few times of fully charging and fully draining I get about 25hrs of normal use. Last weekend I got 36 hours before the battery finally died.
My usage patterns:
1+ hr internet radio morning commute.
Mail, Facebook, weather, syncing all day.
Random web
random games
1+ hr internet radio evening commute.
not plugged in all night, sometimes I leave sync on, sometimes I turn it off.
1+ hr internet radio for morning commute
change battery some time between getting to work and lunch.
Worth it IMO.
So you are not charging in device though at all. Just their charger?

I bought the single 1900mAh and I can charge to 100% through the phone, it does however discharge down quickly initially. Its slows down after 80 - 90% so the overall life is still good. This is its second charge so I'm still waiting to see if I get a boost.
are you charging yours in the phone or the anker charger? Seems with indicator being off been tryib to charge in the phone myself.
What is thr best most accurate way of charging for life and indicator to be right?
Here's the results with my Anker battery.

In my usage I get 7 hours out of the stock battery and 5 hours from the Anker. That puts the stock at about 1259 mA.

Yeah this phone seems really simple to replace parts if needed. I personally was happy with how simple it was to tear down.
But to answer your question yep back together and runs like a champ

Great job on the pictures. Thank you.
Wow.. That's pretty sweet. I wonder what how the battery will look in the N5. Because if it fits( I doubt it ) would be a nice upgrade
Did you do that yourself or pull the pictures from somewhere? I'd love to see an iFixit-like teardown.
This is actually one of the reasons why I didn't get an htc one because the phone is essentially, disposable. Get rid of it when the battery life goes down too much, because there's no way to replace it without pretty much destroying the phone. After my galaxy nexus battery life (near the end, I was getting around 4-6 hours on battery average), I didn't want to want to deal with that.
Nope all my own photos
Well of course you can take the battery out of any phone with a non-removable battery. The point of having a removable battery is to hot swap a dead for a charged one. Lets see how that works out for you when you have to tear your phone down just to do it.

Hahaha wanna time me? Jk and in truth I didn't pull the battery cause at the time I didn't have a suitable prying tool to lift the battery off the glue holding it down. My goal was just to see what was under the hood and how hard it was to get there. Mission accomplished and very impressed with the design

How many people actually do that? I'm more concerned about being able to swap a fresh one in a year or two. Especially given the battery life of the g2.

Most people want a phone with a removable battery so they can buy extras and keep them in their backpack or car or where ever. The majority of the people I know with SGS4's have extra batteries charged and ready to go. Its not like its a rare occurance. I have to charge my G2 my once every 2 days or so. I've had phones that I've had to charge twice a day sometimes, I feel good about the chances my G2 battery will be fine in 2 years, its not like its on the charger twice a day.

Don't know the number, but I am (was) among them. Had 3 batteries and a standalone charger for my GNex. Most Fridays saw me swap batteries at least once.
I came from the rezound and I had 4 batteries that I rotated into use. Normal work day saw me swapping a battery at 1-2pm and then again on heavy use days at 7 or 8. This phone I can rock till bed time with out touching a charger
Phone junkies don't worry about batteries. hehe
So the next question is where can we get a new battery? One we know is good and not a reject sold on eBay

For all the folks who want a removable battery, you won't need it with the G2. This phone has a battery that lasts like two batteries on another cell phone.
And it recharges 3x as fast as other cell phones lol

Looks to be very similar to the droid razr. Pretty straight forward and simple. The only issue with the razr was the camera bezel being easily destroyed($10). What was great about the razr and razr maxx was the ability to upgrade to a maxx by simply changing the battery. The moment it was done, even the software acknowledged it as a maxx.

They will become available in time. It is almost always cheaper to buy a replacement battery than it is to harvest one from a phone(around $100 for a replacemnt). Purchasing a replacement usually also comes with new adhesive to replace the one removed. Also, it's a new battery, no risk of someone not conditioning it properly or lying about how long it really has been used.

To be honest, the battery will have to be replaced in 2 years if you want to continue having the same amount of battery life as you did when it first came out. An example, I was able to massage a 20 hour day out of my droid razr when I first got it. Not even 2 years later and the best I can do is maybe 8 with light use and wifi. My wife on the other hand has a droid razr maxx. She used to be able to go 4 days without charging it. She is now charging it every other day(less than 2 years). Is it still better than 90% of phones out there? Yeah, but it's nowhere near as good as it once was. And once you get used to having such a long battery life, it really pisses you off when you lose it.

First, based on my usage over the past 3 days, I don't know how that would be even remotely possible. Right now, I have all of that turned off, and my battery is dying just sitting there laying dormant....never saw that before, even with something as small as an iphone 4.
Second, I think you actually proved my point when you said you have to use 2 batteries. I've had iphones and an galaxy note 3 and s5 before and it was never an issue before that I even had to think about having a second battery. I used to read reviews of people saying that a benefit of a samsung over and iphone was the removable battery....while it's true that the battery might be removable, with the iphone you don't need to.
You should not exaggerate, sure this is not the phone if you're a really heavy user.
But I'm using it with everything ON, and never had a problem with it, I'm charging it every night.
But if you do have battery issues, you can buy yourself the 2500mah extended battery.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/apple-iphone-6-battery-life-test/
http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-galaxy-alpha-exynos-5430-battery-test/
I am a heavy user and average about 4 hours of SOT with LTE Web Browsing and about 30 minutes of calls BUT I will probably get the 2500 Mah Battery ..
Also there may be a 20 -25% difference between Qualcomm and Exynos Versions with Exynos better ( wild guess on my part on %).
Still coming from a Note 3 , Alpha could be a shock.
Should have been 8mm thick with 2700 Mah
Battery and Ram and Camera and SD like Note 4....THEN Alpha would not be discontinued...lol.
I think you have somehow faulty phone, because this phone has awesome standby time, even with nfc/wifi/GPS on. And it can even survive 30mins of talking with just 3% of battery. Usually the battery in my alpha and in some other alphas survives 12+h with wifi/nfc on and with 3-4h SOT.
Sounds like the phone or battery is messed up. Just replaced battery. If it still doesn't fix, contact carrier

I've had my Alpha for a week now (Exynos version) and I'm disappointed in the battery as well. I bought it for music playback and I took a six hour drive over the weekend with it functioning in airplane mode streaming music through the headphone jack. That was it. It was down to 9% at the end of my drive. Call me crazy, but that's unacceptable for it not being connected to ANY network. It was just playing music and an audiobook located on the device. Is this normal? I can return it, but I love the form factor and the audio quality is second to none, so I will probably just live with it.

Yes, I would love to. Please let me know how to do that. I will also try to look it up, but I haven't used android in a while so it's all new to me again.

@ skirush, you either have a bad phone or an app that is draining your battery in the background. And don't blame the "pathetic" battery. I'm getting 70 minutes of screen time when my battery drains to 20%. Also, I am not using the power save modes.
Did you buy your phone new? It is very odd that you are not getting better performance from your Alpha.
I'm not really sure what to do. I'm pretty pissed about this whole thing. I went out on a limb and bought it new online. Once I got the phone, I confirmed with both AT&T and Samsung that the phone was legit and both said yes. In fact, Samsung even said that the phone is covered under warranty. So, instead of returning it (due to the poor battery life) I kept it. Now, I might be too late to return it to the company I bought it from. It's been over their 14 day return policy.
I have had the feeling that its messed up ever since I first got it, but I decided to stick with it since samsung said it was legit. Now, I'm regretting it.
thumbs down for Samsung support
I called Samsung tech support/customer service. Get this, they are willing to replace the battery...IF, I first send them my battery that's currently in my phone. That's just not possible. Like most people, I have one cell phone with one battery. I don't have a landline phone. So, I don't have spare batteries just lying around to use in the mean time.
That's bs from my perspective. I've had replacements on phones sent to me before. For example, ATT sent me a replacement Note 3 and they took my credit card info on file. After I returned the old unit back to them they release a hold in the amount of the phone.
Not sure why samsung is unwilling to do this. Seems ridiculous to expect someone to send them a battery for their phone, thus rendering it useless. And who knows how long it would take them to send a new one back to me. Could be a total 2 weeks without a phone between me mailing them the old battery and them sending me a new one. Who can do that?
a battery costs about 10$ and for longer trips you may need a second one. So why don't you buy an second one and send the battery from the phone to Samsung?

I totally agree with this. The NFC chip on this phone kills the battery. I dropped from 100 to 65 % in 4 hours with the phone in standby. I turned off NFC and 3 hours later it only dropped another 6%

I had a DLNA app in the background running (just the service) and it too drained the battery as it was constantly trying to find DLNA ready devices.
Bottom line: Either you have a defective battery/phone or you have a consumer that you have not discovered yet.
BTW I switched to the 850M with the samsung chip just because I get the rooting support that the A version will propably never get. Plus the phone outright is cheaper.

Sucks that Samsung is making you jump through these hoops. I would check with the retailer you bought it from if you can exchange it. If not, file a claim with your credit card. Good luck
