Hi there, it's only me or the cover for USB and HDMI (but the second one is less important) sucks? opening it's ok with my nail but get back in closed position is hard -.-, and I have the fear to break the small plastic connection :S tips? I'm thinking about remove them...
I have got a technique to do it, but it's hard to explain. I push the top of the cover inside first, then the bottom.

Exactly, it slides in at an angle, then click in the bottom.
I agree it looks flimsy; I had the same fear with the usb port cover on my X10 though, and it lasted well over 2 years of daily charging.
I am used to it now, it's still pointless though. My Nexus One had no cover and the USB port is still working fine after well over 2 years. I don't know why some manufacturers think a cover is necessary.

It's way prettier, obviously. I saw a picture on here with the cover removed, and it makes the design of the phone sink below sea level.
A flapless port only looks good on a phone with a metal or proper metal-color body. Like the Xperia P. But the Xperia S would look like crap without port flaps.

Yeah but that's because you are taking the flap off when it was designed with it on. Phones designed with a flush usb port and no flap look fine.
It's like saying cutting the roof off your SUV didn't look good. A convertible sports car looks ace.
I don't think the XS would look bad with no port flap. Look at the headphone socket, that's very nicely styled. If they'd done the same with USB I'd be happier.
My samsung tocco ultra had a similar style flap to the XS and lasted me 2 years just fine despite me thinking it would only last two days.
The galaxy s had a slide cover which mostly did the job but wasn't exactly pretty. The pins in micro usb are pretty fine wouldn't take much ingress to mess it up.
I think when the flap spare pieces are available online I will get one and make proper opening for USB for it and leave it there permanently.
Some smart manufacturer could make a delete with correct opening. They could have made it just like Xperia P and it would look very nice.
I was thinking about such same thing. Waiting for spare USB flap availability.
I wonder if a replacement flap could be worked into a clip on case?

Ace, works for me too. I'd been faffing something chronic til now with it but that's deffo the method.
Good to hear that other people have had previous, port-protected Sony's last a couple of years and more OK, especially with 2 year contracts almost being the norm these days. All told it's encouraging, therefore, to read that Sony seems to be some kinda master of the flaps.

I find the flaps very sturdy so I don't mind if they are a bit of a learning experience. I pop the bottom part, then the top part and it works for me XD.
On my X10 it was easy to remove but it was pretty fragile, so I would rather have it the way it is now, then none at all .

i think, it's hard to say whether it is better to have those flaps or not to have them (like in the xperia arc). of course, it also depends on how often you use them.
because of wifi, usb is mostly only needed for flashing, but at least you have to oben the usb-flap once a day for charging
but at the end the phone looks better with them...
The flaps don't bother me that much, but what does bother me is how loose they become after you have opened them a few times. It makes it feel like there is a loose spot in the casing.
I just wanted to chip in here and say if you're worried about the flap, you are right to be. I left mine charging overnight and when I came to unplug it I noticed that the flap had a crack in both sides somehow - despite me being super careful with it. It's not broken - some kind of membrane within seems to be holding it together somehow - but it bends along the crack now and it's a matter of time before it snaps completely.
I don't like that flap design one bit... I thought the X10 had a bad flap design but this one is far worse, especially when you have the phone in a case. It's vulnerable when being charged, sticking out worryingly... hopefully spares will become available. I tried to glue it to reinforce it but it's not easy as the crack is only a hairline when sitting properly.
I don't like them, on mine it has become loose and doesn't latch in at the bottom properly anymore. It has also list it's matte black and is quite shiny now, as is also the 'chin' bit at the bottom under clear strip, there's a definite bit of wear under the back and home buttons. :-/ 3 months old :|

Well my cover finally cracked the other day, the little tail that stays in the phone always cracked in half. So half is still stuck in the phone and then I have the whole cover left. It won't stay on anymore so must look for a new one.
Any one seen the USB cover for sale anywhere ?

I bought a second hand XGo in not so good condition (screen had already been replaced). It's missing the USB and Earphone flaps and the back cover is kinda broken. I'm thinking about buying some replacement parts (http://goo.gl/SiaT3w) but I've also noticed the front microphone doesn't seem to have any kind of seal to make it waterproof.
Does anybody know if the front microphone needs some kind of seal or if any other parts need seals? Or do you think the flaps is all that is needed to make XGo waterproof?

every opening of the phone is either sealed or covered with flaps to make it IP67 certified water resistant.
you can buy back cover and flaps to re-assure the water/dust resistance of USB port and audio jack.(if replaced properly).
the front and back speakers/microphones, camera, led all are protected. but there is no safe way to know that for a good old second hand set.
if there is some hardware damage, there are chances that the protective coating of these openings might get loose and eventually fail in pressure.
i recommend you to replaces flaps for dust resistance, and some splash resistance, so you can wash your phone. But NEVER EVER go in pool with the set. it is not safe at all to swim with the phone.
feel free to use the covered phone in rainy storms, i use it too ! :highfive: (sometimes i even put some water on it to cool it down after hours of gaming ! )

I bought the replacement parts and they finally arrived. I noticed on another website something that seems to go between the microphone and the front cover (http://goo.gl/78x4WN). Could anyone confirm this is the seal for the main microphone? Sadly I couldn't find anything like that on eBay.

having an issue where the aluminium plate around the magnetic charger is lifting up and starting to peel away after 9 months.
I'm not sure if this affects the "waterproofiness" of the phone, its just really annoying as it clicks back in every time i touch it.
Wondering if its happened to anyone else, or if it'd be covered under warranty/insurance? I'm assuming its gonna be classed as normal wear and tear

I've noticed wear & discoloration near my magnetic charging port. I haven't noticed it popping lose, as that may be something you want to have checked! Our one year anniversaries are near assuming you purchased your device during the opening release date for the US. I'll definitely keep a close eye on mine, as I did not purchase additional warranty!
Hi just got myself a DK30 docking station. I have a case and two tempered glasses (front and back) installed, and its having a hard time fitting into the dock's tiny gap. It fits into the wider adapter without the case but its too wide. Have you guys come across with this problem or have a solution to this?

I took the cable out of dock, the magnet is really weak but i only use it for overnight charging so it works great for me. You can also try to remove the space thats in the dock and put phone directly in

I have a magnetic cable too but it's so lousy it only works in specific angles. I cannot move the phone at all while charging.
I tried that too but the gap is even wider the phone will not stay still
Fixed it by sticking a scotch tape on the wider adaptor. The gap is filled by the tape perfectly

Hey guys.. I know this z ultra thread is almost dead and i might not get help, but i am gonna give it a try anyway.
So the story is.. last year i kept my xperia z ultra in my laptop bag and after half an hour when i checked the screen had a little line(crack) in the middle of the screen from one end to the other.
The phone turns on. I can see the display but it doesnt recognise my touches. and it randomly keeps on launching apps and touching screen here and there.
I would like to ask what exactly went wrong here.
some of my friends had this phone and their's were working even after cracked screens.
Can i replace the screen? and is it worth spending on this phone now?

I had the same thing happen to me over 2 years ago. I finally got around to fixing it, because I was weary of bad LCD screens and I wanted to do it on the cheap.
I bought one from AliExpress and can confirm it is an OEM LCD panel. Only $36. Arrived in 3 weeks and it works like it did before, minus the waterproofing of course. In fact, this seller is all about OEM, good place for other devices as well.

I'd say it's worth it. It makes for a good backup phone and mini tablet for when you don't want to bring a tablet.

WOW that is cheap! To bad its not available anymore..
If I buy a new phone and this is no longer my primary phone I might change the screen and frame!
My chassis is cracked in half both at the sim slot due to its being so thin there and at the ear plug.
And my usb port is is not working cause of pin 1 that came loose that I soldered once but it came loose again so I ordered a new connector to be replaced completely.
The pins has started to move around due to wear in the plastic inside the connector so when I connect a usb cable it will tweak the pin back and forth until it breaks loose of the solder point.
And my earplug needs to be replaced due to 3.5mm plug comes out to easy but thats easy.
I have a question. How did you remove the battery?
I probably need to flip the motherboard upside down for the usb port that requires the battery to come out first.
I tried to break the glue underneath but the battery started to deform and bend just slightly and I'm worried the battery might burst into flames.

Man, your Ultra has gone through a lot!
Dang, didn't think they'd go out of stock. Pretty much the only online seller I trusted, because they compare OEM displays with fakes.
As for the battery, I don't remember how I got it out. I took it apart over a year ago when I bought a non-OEM display, so the adhesive was already loose. If you're in a situation where the screen is not working, you could just heat up the front to take the screen off and heat the body where the battery is, that way you're not putting heat directly on the battery.
Just be careful about the connector, especially if it's still plugged in.

If it's Z Ultra we are talking about - you unscrew 4 screws on each corner and pry battery from the right side with a plastic tool. It has two adhesive strips on both left and right side.
Though you don't need to take the battery out if you want to replace the screen, the connectors are at the bottom and accesible with just the metal cover removal.
By the way the reason why touch stops working the moment your screen cracks is because the capacitive layer is integrated into the glass, and when it breaks the connection is severed and no longer working. It is a shame, and the glass on this particular phone is very fragile, I suggest putting a tempered glass protector on it, so far mine holds up fine with it.
If you don't want to go thru hassle of repairing it and looking for a new device: the Z5 or XZ premium I think are best options of the sony side as the XA Ultra gives midrange experience at best.
On the same screen size id give S8+ or Note 8 a shot, they look promising.

Thank you. I had trouble locating where the glue strips are so I kind of felt my way where there was something sticky but didn't make much progress.
I got one corner out but then I gave up.
Since a few years I use tempered glass back and front. They are a lifesaver! Not very cheap but worth every penny.
I'm not sure if I'm going to take my phone apart for the tenth time or so..its very fiddly to solder this tiny usb connector.
Atm i'm using the magnetic cable and a phone case so it stays in place but I'm working on a "workaround" with my old battery case with two 18awg cables soldered to the dock pins (cause I hit current limit with thinner awg) and ordered a dip to micro usb board to solder these cables onto.
So the case only contains a strait path from the usb port to the dock connector on the battery case.
The idea is If the port brakes I ware out the dip board instead of the internal usb port when charging.
Easy maintance and low cost of replacement parts. Ten dip boards for 1 usd vs 2 usd for three internal usb ports.
And I don't have to worry about the magnetic dock cable coming loose all the time.
I started to look for a new device a month ago. Its showing its age.
I'll continue writing in the other thread..so we don't go too off topic.

Sadly an extreme issue with Sony phones for many years. Along with the dreaded sudden death that effects so many models its more widespread then LG bootloop and Apple bendgate combined.... And somehow denied as a defect by Sony and unknown and disbelieve by many....
Both issues I think however are rectified since 2017 I believe though.... Finally
