[q] how to backup stock recovery - HTC Desire X

Hi guys.
I'm on JB STOCK, Stock recovery and Stock boot.
I want to create a backup of Stock recovery before i flash my TWRP-JB to take Stock NAND backup.
I searched and found a command to run recovery without flashing it to recovery partition.
fastboot boot recovery recovery.img <- my custom recovery. Then use either ADB or recovery itself to take a backup.
Will it work??
Regards
Yasir

But the method that extracts kernel from partition and makes img file doesn't work also with recovery partition?
I mean the dd command from adb.

This worked.
fastboot boot twrp.img
I made a nand backup of every partition.

Good to know but not really needed. The stock Boot.img and Recovery.img come together with the OTA
Attached here the JB Stock Recovery.img if you want it.

The firmware zip in 405 OTA was not protected. It could be opened.
For us ( HTC__038) it doesn't open. May be thats why he needs it.

Bro, to take backup of the stock recovery.. u just booted the custom recovery using 'fastboot boot customrecovery.img' & took a nandroid? or any other command? specifically for backingup the stock recovery..?

That command boots the phone with the selected img , without actually flashing the img , by temporarely downloading the img into the phone memory and booting it from there .
This way , you could boot the phone into a custom recovery while having the stock recovery flashed , and then backup the unharmed stock recovery from that custom recovery .
TWRP can backup both the boot and the recovery partitions if I'm not mistaking . Just choose "Backup" and you'll be prompted with a list of partitions you can backup

Question 1: did you unlock your phone?
Lots of info over here, to read for yourself. For a backup: install a recovery. After that: push the button 'backup'

[Q] Stock Rom Nandroid Restore Boot.img

Hi, I've a Desire S, S-ON running CM7, hboot 2.00.002 GRJ90 GB 2.3.5, and would just like to know if it's ok to flash the boot.img found in the nandroid backup of my stock rooted rom (after the restore). Or do I perhaps have to find another one?
If in case I need another, there was a dropbox link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1616741 [Collection | 1.26 & 1.28] Fastboot Pack v1.2 but 1st) I'm in China ATM and dropbox is blocked so can't download it and 2nd) I wouldn't know/don't understand what 1.26 or 1.28 are or how they correspond.
Any advice is appreciated
*EDIT* I tried flashing the within nandroid boot.img, Failed to boot, extracted signed_boot.img from compatible RUU(albeit older HBOOT) Failed again. I have searched but can' find a stock boot.img for my ROM.

The normal way I did with all roms 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' in bootloader message is sent OK. I have no problem flashing, the Boot.img is wrong
do you have the rom zip file that u are running? in that if you unzip it ull find boot.img you can use that for fastbooting

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery DNA.CWR6.IMG
Exactly what he said, just download the cwm recovery and flash it using that command, it will simply overwrite the current recovery method and begin working instantly.

Rooted HTC one x+ using wrong rootboot version and lost signal and wifi

Hi,
I just rooted my HTC One x+ using RootBoot for Software number 1.14.401.16 and i had completely forgotten that I upgraded to 1.17 today
I lost my signal, wifi isnt working and it was stuck on the HTC logo for a while but its unbricked now. I still have no signal or wifi though.
Does anyone know if there is a new rootboot version?
Cheers

So, you have a recovery installed, either CWM or TWRP? Why do you want to keep the stock ROM?
Use the All in One tool from Hasoon or follow the guide for the original One X that explains how to set up the fastboot folder on your C: drive, then flash one of the above mentioned recoveries for the X+ via fastboot, then flash the boot.img of a ROM you'd like to try, also via fastboot and then flash a custom ROM from recovery. But first make sure that you download a custom ROM.zip and transfer it to your phone as unlocking will have wiped your SD card.
Or you can just root your stock ROM, for that you need the Super User tools, so after unlocking, flash one of the recoveries for the X+ via fastboot, power up phone, copy Super User tools to SD card and flash them in recovery!
Make sure that you understand what you are doing. Reading first is mandatory!

can someone please help? would a whole new RUU work?
I had the same problem but i finally managed to fix that by flashing a custom rom after flashing the boot.img for that rom.

You need to flash the boot.img inside the Rom.zip that you download. Put the whole .zip on your SD card, boot into bootloader, select fastboot, hook up the phone, point to the folder your fastboot files are located and you dropped the boot.img, open a cmd window, and type
cd c:\fastboot and enter, then
fastboot erase cache and enter
fastboot flash boot boot.img and enter
fastboot erase cache and enter
Unplug cable, select hboot/boot recovery, select, then inside recovery install zip from SD card, don't forget to select the wipe option in the aroma installer...
The whole process takes like 20 mins, including download of the ROM, copying the boot.img into the fastboot folder (make sure there is only one boot.img in there...the one you want/need), flashing the boot.img, flashing ROM in recovery and booting up (which takes like a few minutes)
Hope this helps

Just to make sure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34173694 is the CWM recovery for the X+ or use the TWRP recovery found in the Android Original Dev section...and please, use the search button, read, understand and ask if you don't, and then a hit on the thanks button is appreciated

Which ROM did you flash ? I have the same problem and have no luck with decoding HTC stock ROMs.
Please try to flash boot.img from ARHD 6.2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987885
I am in a same problem ase I flash my ARHD 6.2 Rom and after the Oxp_elitekernel_130119, all work but my data connection is not stopped when screen is in sleep mode...
Is Oxp_elitekernel_130119 works fine with ARHD 6.2 ROM ?

Installing boot.img - as per item no.7 (JB boot.img on ICS hboot - we flash the boot.img to recovery partition)
booting your DX - as per item no. 8 (Press Power once to go to hboot and select Recovery to boot your device)

Yes, you have boot image on boot and recovery partition.
Now when you boot normally, it uses boot from boot partition to start Rom, and when you reboot to recovery, it uses boot from recovery partition to start rom.

If you are rooted already with a stock recovery, skip to the second half of the next paragraph.
What you want to do is boot twrp instead of flashing it at first. You do this by using the command "fastboot boot recovery.img" where as "recovery.img" is the name you have assigned to your twrp recovery image. Once you have booted into twrp, reboot system. You will be prompted to root the device (assuming you are not already rooted), select yes. Now that you are rooted, download this app. In the app settings change the backup format to .img, and then backup your recovery. Now you will have a copy of your stock recovery. Now that you have that, go back and flash twrp using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", whereas "recovery.img" refers to whatever you have named your twrp recovery image.
all of this is assuming that you have adb setup on your computer, and a good working knowledge of how to use it.
What if I'm already rooted with twrp recovery, is it still possible?

You still have stock recovery? If so, it sounded like you did fastboot boot TWRP (instead of fastboot flash TWRP).
In which case, you can just then use TWRP to backup the recovery partition. You don't need a seperate app or root to do this.
I flashed twrp using fastboot flash recovery twrp but I'm still using the stock rom, but since I flashed twrp that means my stock recovery img is gone right?

Yes, you can only have one recovery at a time. TWRP custom recovery overwrote the stock recovery. You can't back up what isn't there anymore.
But you can always return to stock by RUU, if needed.
