I am wanting to know if their is an app or replacement that will fast scroll through the all apps? This 16 apps one page at a time is a pain in the arse! Probably something simple I am missing but I'm still learning the Android as this is my first Android phone

Are you rooted? I believe the only way to do this is root the phone and put on a custom rom that has the non-page scroll and you can also get a 5 row app drawer.

You can install adw or go launcher, but you wont have sense while you use either one of them.
Thanks I got a PM to change to list view.. can scroll fast now and have the fast scroll button.. yeah rooted but waiting for CM7 or something similar that has Bluetooth with HID support so I can use the PS3 remote on this phone. The alpha of CM7 right now breaks 3D so not going to use it yet.
Wonder why others do not replace the Bluetooth Stack in their ROMS.
ADW launcher gives the ability to do the fast scroll.
Thanks I'll check it out. The list view keeps wanting to reset to the other view in Android.
I like the new TouchWiz, I have full version of apex but I like to keep using the new TouchWiz...
The only issue is that after you go back from applications sometimes and not always touch wiz redrwas... As if it is not persistent in the RAM...
Anyone else?

I have the same issue, it is really frustrating with the new "powerful" SGS3...any solution?
Also, is it possible to change the Grid size?, I mean, with so big screen how is possible that the TouchWiz only uses 4x4

Only 2gb ram may solve this issue.

Yes mine does it too. When I have used an app for the first time some times it will take a while to go back to the home screen after pressing home. The bottom buttons will appear then a second or two later the widgets then another second or two the rest of the icons appear. Makes the phone appear to be SOOO slow. I was showing it to a friend and he just laughed and walked away with his WP7 handset saying... stupid android. HAHAHA
Same here - can not reproduce when it happens. Mostly while going back from "settings" - very annoying

That really has nothing to do with the Galaxy S III.....
My one x had this problem with sense reloadng. Custom Rom fixed it by making it persistent. Just have to wait for devs..

You need the lib that comes with it. Its nit standard in ALE.
I've seen the launcher reload I think twice now but it only happened to me when the browser crashed due to a locked up flash plugin. The launcher reloaded fast though so I sort of thought it was acceptable due to the flash crash. But yeh it's not ideal. Hopefully an update will fix whatever is causing it.
I can confirm this issue. I this its due to the RAM. The launcher takes up a lot off RAM, sometimes I only have 100mb of free RAM left and Im not playing games etc.

The fix is simple, download Xposed, then install AppSettings for xposed, when done, activate and reboot the phone. When all that done, open AppSettings and find TWLauncher.apk (i think that's the name, not sure, double check), click on it, tick Permissive, then tap save in the upper right corner, reboot the phone, benefit!
No more TW launcher redraws, xposed will keep it in memory.
Cheers

Well, there is no other way, but why don't you want to root your phone?
I mean, you will enter a whole new world and you can have a faster phone (not simply with rooting it), but with for example, installing xposed and getting touchwiz into memory, installing greenify from playstore and hibernating your apps (significantly improves battery life), installing cusotom kernel in wich you can set various settings (for speed or battery life), also, you will have a lot of custom roms to choose, wich improve the speed of your phone with their tweaks.
You don't know what you're missing
But, if you don't want to root your phone, and read all the posts on how to do it, how to install roms/kernels or modify your phone, then you can simply download Nova Launcher, which is IMO the best, fastest and most customizable launcher which uses smaller amount of memory than touchwiz, believe me, you won't see any redraws from it.
If you decide to do this, you dont have to have root, just install it from playstore
And please, use only nova, or apex, because others are just like touchwiz, full of bloat, ads, and useless stuff that'll make things slow.
Cheers

I checked the title suggestions and the S3 doesn't have a solution in them... The suggestions for other phones don't seem very good either, although I will take a look at LauncherPro.
Question:
Is there a way to restore widgets to their correct screens and locations? I like trying ROMs and I've got saving/restoring my data and apps down so I don't lose anything but widgets are a pain. I get the big red rectangles but not the widgets. Have no problems paying for an app that does it, so I'm not just looking for a freebie handout.
Ideally the app would also restore apps and data into a new ROM, but I'd be happy if it just looked after my widgets. I run 7 home screens and have my Launcher at 6 columns x 7 rows - I don't mind having to set that up prior to restore but again, ideally it would be nice if the app would restore those settings.
*grins* Not asking much... am I?

From my experience, which is limited to Apex Pro, I can tell you that restoring the home screens work for logos & folders of apps, whereas somehow my widgets (I got 1 widget, which is the calendar in agenda view) does not work somehow. Maybe other launchers can do it though.
Thanks chrismast - it seems to be an issue. I can't find anything on Playstore that specifically says it will restore widgets, even if you're on a stock layout. Maybe it is too hard given all the changes and layouts people have on their devices? le sigh...
Its very rare to restore Widgets as they were.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
@rootSU - do you mean it is rare that people put widgets back as they were or that it is rare to be able to restore them as they were? The 2nd one, yep! Having all kinds of problems trying to find a way to do it automatically. The 1st possibility - I like to try different ROMs and see what they are like to use - to do that I really need to have the same set up in each so I can compare. Restoring widgets to what they were before an upgrade seems a logical thing to do, so I am puzzled it hasn't been addressed before now.
Maybe I am just a bit odd?

Yes the latter. I ONCE managed to restore fully using titanium backup. I suppose it depends on the type of widgets. Go launcher and Nova have internal backup features, but all it does is put the widgets in their places. I still have to "tap to restore widget" which for some is great, they just pop back up but others that are configurable, i still have to go through all the config again.

Not for me. Once I restore widgets like:
Tasker tasks
Set CPU
Beautiful Widgets
Pure Calendar
Simi Clock
I have to go into each and set my preferred settings.
Hi,
I got root and actual backups.
Sometimes my Wigets or App Icons get lost from desktop (mostly Widgets).
Which file/database contains those Widget placement so I can restore it? (4.4.2)
Since this happens quite often and I mostly don't know where which Widget was...
Anybody who can help?

They are stored in the data partition for the app using them. This normally happens of the app is on the sdcard which should never be done.
But often all Widgets get lost the same time and they are NOT all on the SD in my case.
So there must be any other Place where the allover placement is saved

The layout for then are stored in the launcher files. You don't have your lather on sd card do you?
No I don't, got Phoenix rom which has the Samsung Launcher, do you know which file exactly has the Layout?
Phoenix 9.4
No I dont. It is different for each launcher and I stopped using touch wiz many years ago due to it being unstable

Get/use a custom launcher like Nova launcher -So much easier to customize and so many more features.

This is really bothering me. I dont want a 3rd party launcher, the launcher is fine except for that stupid search bar. Also I had many problems with 3rd party launchers in the past, and I'd rather keep the stock one which is tailored to the Pixel 6 series.

I thought perhaps Nova would take care of it. Thanks.
surprised someone finds 3rd party launchers like nova buggy
nova hits 10years old in december and its been pretty solid since forever
Likewise, I want to get rid of that screen wasting 'At a Glance' widget at the top of the screen!!
Don't fancy an alternative launcher - but may have to bite the bullet...

I've been using it for the last 6 years. It is feature-rich and less buggy and annoying than the four previous pixel launchers.

The beauty of Nova is, you can run both launchers, customize each as you like and switch between the two on-the-fly.
Infinite scrolling, custom bottom bar, multiple grid layouts...
When I get my P6P (today in theory) I will load all my apps from the Play store and restore my Nova backup. BOOM! my new phone will look and function exactly like my old phone... only bigger and cooler.

Thanks - I went with the Microsoft one - as it was the last one I had tried on my OnePlus over a year ago.
I will see how it goes - if not I will try Nova - I have the paid version also from 1-2 years ago.

Switched to Nova overnight (insomnia!) - did not like the news choices of the Microsoft Launcher left swipe page - stuff from Hello Magazine, Daily Express and Daily Mail -???
Added the Nova Companion and now got the Google Left swipe and no wasted screen space on the main page.

I had never heard of the MS launcher, or maybe never really given it any mind. I looked at it yesterday after you mentioned it and it looked awful. I really hate the tiles and the forced news that I could care less about... too much work to make it what I wanted.

Then you're missing out IMHO.
There is nothing "wrong" with the Pixel launcher per se, as long as you don't care that Google, like Apple, dictates how you interact with your phone; but, if you want to customize your phone to your liking, a custom launcher is the only way to go.
Nova has been rock-stable for a long time and has a myriad of great features, most of which are free.
ƒ
+1 for Nova.
Nova is my launcher of choice.
It has been for a decade or so now.
I've tried many others but always come back to it.
Sometimes I use Action Launcher or will try something new but again always come back to Nova, which I am actively using on my new Pixel 6 (received it yesterday) as I find the stock launcher extremely lacking in features - haven't suffered a single launcher related performance or stability issue for a very long time, including on my P6.
I don't like having an app drawer or icons / widgets cluttering up my home screen so I assign gestures to launch specific frequently used apps such as Chrome and YouTube and for Nova's integrated "app search", which also displays other recently used, newly installed or frequent apps in tabs separate from the search bar.
I have a single Google "At A Glance" widget
and use the Maxelus Galaxy Pack Live Wallpaper app for additional personalisation and because I'm a nerdy space cadet.
+2 Nova. Double tap to lock gesture is something I have implemented for years and the customization is endless.

Wait, what's Nova Companion? I just put the Google icon on my home screen so I could tap it to get to the Google interface, but a left-swipe would be way cleaner...
If you root your phone, you can get rid of the search bar in the Pixel Launcher, add rows/columns, and more.

I use a package disabler to do that.
For me it's called "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox"

A little late to the party. Always used Lawnchair launcher on my Pixel3. Just got my P6 a few days ago and upgraded to Lawnchair again. Seems pretty stable on Android 12. I add Lawnfeed to enable Google feed left-swipe. Lawnchair is pretty similar to Pixel launcher except you can customize much more than stock (ie, disabling the bottom search bar).
