Its the same with a custom recovery for JB
Unrooting ICS? Flash a stock ics rom (RUU or nandroid backup)
hTC Desire X|ShadowDX|ICS

for unrooting, i read somewhere you have to delete the superuser-app and delete the system/bin directory, but im NOT absolutey sure about the second part. waiting for a second opinion.

Mmm...I just got one of these for my girl just last week.
Unlocked boot loader...rooted...and then checked out that there was an update...
faaark...
...but I'm unsure if it's something to do with bootloader...or CWM...
maybe using stock recovery will be fine to do the update?

Re-flashing the stock recovery and re-locking the bootloader wasn't enough, at any rate.

Trying to flash the update ZIP from CWM didn't work either. Re-installing the stock RUU (after relocking the phone) seems to have worked on the other hand; the update took a while to install but is now churning along nicely. Of course, this means losing all of your data; I'm using "Ultimate Backup Tool" (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844032) to mitigate some of the losses. It's not perfect, but it does help.
Well I m from India and I received the same update,
then I relocked my boatloader and unlocked it again then i flashed the stock recovery and the update was installed successfully ....
U can get the stock recovery from 25th post in thread

Like I said, that didn't work for me; instead of booting to recovery that dropped be back to the bootloader instead.

Other recoveries didn't work for me.

are there any changes in performances ?? or camera as stated??
and i guess just using the ruu and updating will work as theres a problem with rooting and not bootloaders ??

You could make a nandroid backup, flash RUU, install OTA update, (unlock bootloader again?), flash CWM and restore /data.
Just extract the ROM.zip from the RUUs available maybe that'l work? Or is there an hboot update?

Noob questions :P

Hi I'm rlly new to android... Just switched from iPhone to htc desire x 2 days ago. Anyway, I iv been doing my research and had a few questions-
If I flash a custom rom, how do I go back to factory settings and stock rom?
If I get a custom recovery like clockworkmod, how do I get my stock recovery back-is it just reflashing the ruu?
How do I unlock the bootloader without htc dev, I don't want to void my warranty
How do I take a backup of my stock rom? - if I mess up then how do I use the backup to restore to factory settings?

To install a custom recovery you need to unlock the bootloader on your phone. Once unlocked it can only be relocked with a sign 'RELOCKED' on top of bootloder. Plus HTC has records about users that requested unlock code for their devices. However unlocking of bootloder doesn't deny your warranty but HTC can always claim that malfunction came as a result of your usage.
It's easy to unlock bootloader kust follow the steps on htcdev.com.
To fully return back to stock you just need to flash RUU (Rom Update Utility) that can be obtained here on forum.
You can make a backup of stock rom from custom recovery you flash after unlocking.
Thx for the info, was quite useful, was wondering if there is a official version of cwm for desire x?

All ROMs come with NO root and NO busybox, it's purely stock are written on post #2 referring to 1.18.401.1 ROMs.
Do I write that on post #1 from where that you have link to that backup ??
Read this thread from page 100 onwards, many things have been said on how to update : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209143&page=100
I'm not going to start all over again to advise how to do it. You can ask question there, someone will assist you

In my case, when I updated from ICS, JB was rooted too (I think). I don't know exactly because when I updated and made nandroid backup, I flashed the Deodexed JellyBean that ckpv5 uploaded. Did you try to install superuser/supersu like in ICS?

I meant, that I didn't flash superuser zip directly via recovery, but opened a preinstalled SuperSu in prerooted ROM, it asked me to update su binary and gave me the option to flash via TWRP / CWM, so I used that.

[Q] Required Nandroid Backup of Htc Desire X (with Official Jelly bean for India)

I have rooted my htc desire x device and Unlocked Bootloader one month ago. Yesterday i received JB update but i am unable to install it. I also tried to install Stock recovery but again unable to install update.
After installation of Stock recovery image ,i downloaded the update then after downloading the phone reboots itself and after 40% installation of update the red Traingle appers with exclamation mark (!) .
So any one having Nandroid Backup of HTC Desire X with official Jelly Bean Update for India with CID-038?
One more thing I have the zip file of official update with size around 282 Mb in my pc, So, if there is any chance to install the update through the Zip file then PLease Let me know.
Right Now I have CWM Installed .
Also Suggest me should i upgrade to JB ?
