I have decided to sell my htc onex+. So far I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone (never flashed rom). Also disabled a few att apps. Do I need to relock bootloader before selling phone?
I use tmobile and I know there is a new update for att. If someone uses att sim card and updates the phone can it be damaged now that the bootloader is unlocked and the phone is rooted?
what would be the best way to restore to stock at this point if it needs to be relocked? Is it still possible to keep root and relocked boot loader?
imo i would keep just the way it is. It runs much fasterand battery lift is better just with these few changes. Sorry for asking so many questions. thanks all.

AFAIK if your bootloader is unlocked and you have arleady rooted - you can not use OTA...

Best thing to so would be to keep the phone as its still the best HTC device out and cheapest 64gb variant

Download the stock RUU, you can find a link in the device forums, plug your phone in and run the RUU as an executable. This will lock the bootloader, unroot, and restore the device to the same state it was sold in originally.

He can use RUU only if his hboot is 1.35 or lower...

this is a really nice phone... i came across it almost brand new at 200. problem is i am using t-mobile and getting edge network at my work. i did a test with my wife's galaxy s3 (t-mobile version) and she is getting 4g over there. it is a shame to have such a nice phone and getting such slow speeds on data... i can barely get the text let alone pictures from twitter and facebook
fyi - i sold the phone on ebay for over 400. i didn't have any bids at first until i opened up the auction to international buyers (they pay shipping of course). Once I did that there were 6 bidders in the first 12 hours. Just a heads up to anyone interested in selling their phone for top dollar. Do the international shipping and you will attract a lot of buyers. Seems the buyer wants to phone rooted anyways so I will just leave as is but I appreciate all your help! On to the HTC ONE! The t-mobile version will get me the data speeds I need at work and I also like the idea of the extra gig of ram. I had my first andriod phone for only 2 weeks

Is unlocking the bootloader and flashing rom will make my phone unlocked so that I can use it on other carriers? I'm a noob! If not then how can I unlock the phone? I found a few websites that offers unlocking services but are they legit? Does it work?

and to fill my 10char quota lol.... Don't EVER pay for a service like unlocking a phone unless it's a legit site. By legit I mean other legit sites point to it or have reviewed it. Google "unlock xxx phone" doesn't always mean the top options are best. It means they have spam bots hitting their sites to keep them at the top.

Just unlock it yourself. You need the supercid and it should be available in the forums. I know other phones on Tmobile have it and it can be done, so no reason it shouldn't be possible with an SOFF device

I cant seem to unlock my bootloader as it says on the service menu not allowed, so was wondering if there is antother way without unlocking bootloader?

My biggest fear is...xda devs have worked with Sony to get certain bootloaders unlocked. So it will be locked down pretty tight i'm guessing.
Hopefully they left open a root option without the need of unlocking the bootloader. If so i'm hoping the solution comes fairly soon.
The bloatware they have stuck on here is ridiculous,

It's possible that you may well be able to root without unlocking the bootloader. There was something called Zerg Rush exploit on other phones, which is what I used on my Xperia Arc.

That exploit was fixed by SE in in .62 firmware for arc. It will not work for XS. (again, prove me if I'm wrong )
I am checking this thread often from now on. I just had an xda break for over a year (iphone) but i am planning to buy this phone next month. Of course the big charm is to root and theme the thing to your own hand.

My Xperia S was rooted from day 1.
But I don't have a carrier-provided phone which is not unlockable.

No, you have the wrong understanding. Phones that are provided by, or customized by, a carrier are usually not "unlockable" due to the warranty claims. Only phones bought directly, or paid for in full (rather than on a "lease" from the carrier) are unlockable.
It's a matter of who carries the warranty and what they decided to do with it.

I hope so as well, I loved messing about with my Desire with the roms on this site, almost made the end of the 2 year contract bearable.
Still waiting for easy root process. :-( Don't wanna unlock bootloader. Guys, do something.
There is nothing we can do with locked bootloaders as of yet until there is method to use s1 tool which unlocks bootloader like it did for the 2011 devices

Apparently sim-unlock a sim-locked XS won't make any difference to the bootloader status.
Does anyone know if flashing it to another official rom (un-brand it) make any change?

I bought mine with a contact from T-mobile and its sim-lock free and the bootloader can be unlocked.

It all depends where are you taking it from. If you are taking it from retailer, such as T-Mobile, more than likely it will be simlocked, because T-Mobile does not want you i.e. to use that phone with another network SIM card, but if you buy it from shop, like Sony, Phones4U, Carphone Warehouse, etc... they are selling unlocked phones, so they could simply put any mobile carrier SIM card in. There are exceptions though.
How easy it to unlock the network of the Xperia S? I am buying one locked on Orange but need to use my 3 sim in it.

O2 send the unlock code free of charge on request, it took 17 days for mine to arrive but no questions asked and it worked.

Andy O2 models of the phone have a bootloader that's locked and it's not unlockable yet. You testing just using the phone or you considering to hack it?
At the end of it all, I'll be reviewing it. I did want to put ICS on it though. About 15 minutes ago I've seen the bootloader of this can't be unlocked though
Nothing that can be done?

One thing you can do though is to use the flash tool to flash the latest update..73 has had positive results in improving battery
I think it is already .73

Believe so. When I boot up it has the T-Mobile logo.
I'm having real issues with lag and Xperia Activity Home force closing and the phone completely locking up, so I'm hoping I can stick .73 on it.
According to Paul O'brien (who from what I understand is a pretty solid source) AT&T has locked down the One's bootloader, like it did with the One X. Apparently that turned out to be a huge mess. Was totally planning on getting this, now I'm strongly reconsidering...

I've been on the One X forums from just about the start, and I'm not sure I would call it a "huge mess". A bootloader unlock method was discovered and posted by an XDA dev a little over 2 weeks after the device was released.
What turned out to be a bit more of a mess, is that root was needed to get the bootloader unlock, and HTC kept patching the existing root exploit with every firmware update.
This is indeed disappointing. But I won't believe it 100% until the phone is actually released, and people try to unlock the bootloader. Even then, the phone will be a popular one, and I have faith that the devs here will crack it.

Really though, the amount of modders who need SOFF to do what they want is like less than 5% of the mod community. Root typically handles most issues. Unlocked bootloader is just that barrier above root.
Though, I'm kind of mad that HTC isn't sticking it to ATT on this and telling them to bugger off. Tmobiles is unlocked...

If I read correctly, someone stated that the cid partition was write protected on the one
So since supercid was how we unlocked the boot loader it may be a bit more difficult on the one

I don't know much about the typical bootloader unlocking methods, but saw this recent article about unlocking newer Qualcomm-based Motorola phones. Not that this method will work on the AT&T One, but hopefully a similar method can be found if none of the current tricks work.

My comment had to do more with informing the previous poster what actually happened on the One X (that he seemed to mostly only know about 2nd hand), rather than speculating on what HTC has done on this upcoming phone. As we know, HTC is a tricky bugger, and I won't even begin to try to guess what security enhancements they have up their sleeve this time around!

You can root, install custom recovery, and flash custom ROMs with an unlocked bootloader.
S-off allows some other things, such as modding hboot, and flashing radios. But its not needed for flashing custom ROMs.

Aha! gotcha, Well. I tried to order the Dev edition but it got out of stock.. so i have no choice but to get one from ATT and hope for the best : D
Yeah you can flash roms etc..
But who wants to manually flash the kernel every time you want to update a rom?
I would like to just put my rom on my phone and flash it. Simple as that

Sprint and tmobile versions are unlockable
There is no surprise about ATT locking the boot loader. Why do you think HTC is selling a developer edition that is using ATT bands. They solved it because there are a few of us who root our phones etc. Most people who buy phones don't do any of this XDA stuff

I see it this way, with the $100 rebate and the HDMI device I am getting from HTC and ATT the one will be pretty much free. I am switching from Sprint which I had originally switched to with hopes of buying the Nexus 4. Since they stopped doing Nexus on CDMA this is my move back. The One will turn into a backup phone and the next Nexus will become my main. If a Nexus doesn't come out in the next 4 months I'll just buy a Nexus 4 for now. I'll just never do OTAs on the One until a root is found or just sell the thing when I get a Nexus.
Btw, who is this Steven Bell guy? Does he have an HTC One from ATT that he tried to unlock?
Im glad i got the dev edition. I canceled ATT pre order day after i ordered. My Dev edition says backorder now but says shipment scheduled Tomorrow the 10th.
Either some lazy people here.. Or trolls.. It only takes an additional few seconds to flash a kernel if you need it. Those few seconds certainly wouldn't keep me from owning this device. This phone looks like it'll have a lot of Dev presence. S-off might not be far off. :victory:

1) Does the dev edition s4 also have a locked bootloader? That would be f'in whack.. If it us unlocked and my second q doesn't pan I may try and swoop one up. ..
2) I have a friend with a tmobile s4 that he cracked the digitizer and just reported it lost... If I took his board could I unlock it to big red? If so what would be the consequences?

The Dev Edition S4 normally does not have a locked bootloader. I say normally because some users took an Over The Air update which did lock the bootloader. So it depends on whether the bootloader is a stock MDK bootloader or if the user took a subsequent OTA update which in turn locked / changed the bootloader. Also, there is no factor image for the Dev Edition, so if it is locked it is going to stay locked for the foreseeable future. As for your second question, I'm not sure that will work. I think the firmware differences between TMO and Verizon plus the difference between GSM and CDMA will not be easy to overcome. But I don't know that for sure.
I'm not trying to be a know it all trust me lol but the dev s4 never got otas I don't believe. The users who locked then up did so by using Odin and retail firmware.

I don't take that as you being a know it all, you're probably right. I just know some Dev owners did something to lock their bootloaders I just assumed (wrongfully) that it was an OTA of some sorts. Sorry for the misinformation.

I know one user who received his DevEd about the same time as me. He received an OTA that locked his bootloader. I have never received an OTA, and I'm still running stock (more or less) DevEd.
It's funny how I bought the DevEd, because I wanted a guarantee that I could ROM the device. But I fell in love with the stock OS, and don't care if I ever have KitKat.

No kidding? I didn't know any of them got OTAs. At least you have the option to flash whatever you want if you did get bored with stock.
