I dont know whats up but here is some extra info.
My parents cut me off of texting calling and data back in feburary. I saved up and got this phone full price. While at the verizon store buying this phone I mentioned I didnt have data. The guy activating my phone pulled out my new sim and typed a bunch of stuff in for a few minutes and put it in my phone and handed it to me. When I tried signing into gmail, 4g worked. Before my parents cut my data off I had unlimited. While I was cut off my family changed to shared. Could the guy at the verizon store have done something letting me have unlimited or shared with no tethering?

im guessing when your parents cut off the data, they took off the unlimited and made a family shared data plan. and to get hotspot, you have to pay extra for that, unless your rooted

Call Verizon and tell them you have a shared data plan and to activate the Hotspot. It should work by default.

He shouldn't need that since he's on a shared data plan. That would be nice if he had unlimited data.

Only way to really find out is dial *611 on your phone and click the call Verizon option and ask them and find out what plan you have. If your on unlimited data or shared data. If shared tell them the hotspot doesn't work.

Dude you could have had this resolved ages ago by just dialing *611 then selecting call Verizon on the bottom on the list. They can FIX this issue you are having and ONLY them. You must be handicapped or something to not have called Verizon already. This is all based off the picture you posed. Based off your picture you posted you have 6GB of SHARED data which means FREE Hot Spot access.

Double your data again!

Sorry if this has beeb mentioned. I'm sure most of you guys know that verizon is doubling your data if you buy a 4g phone this weekend. Well I just bought my rezound this last week. I just called and they were able to double my data. So if you've gotten a new upgrade in the past couple weeks, call them up!

Sign onto your myverizon account and it will allow you to change to the promotional plan as long as it is still being offered; regardless of when you purchased your phone"
Can anyone confirm it'll work? I'm just looking out for my friends and their 2GB limits. As someone with Unlimited Data, im fine and dandy.

Untethered & untethered I was doing 10-12GB average. I can't see myself ever going past that. I average 8GB of data now with decent WiFi recently at home & work.
My biggest data hauls are ROM downloads (2 average 1.3GB) & data uploads.
Little streaming, never torrent, never tethered my game system to it.

Transferring upgrade to keep unlimited data

According to Verizon and one of their premium retailers I will be able to give my upgrade to one of the lines with a dumb phone and order/activate it on that line then transfer it to my line and only affect the dumb phones's contract. Anyone done this or heard of it?

When you "transfer" an upgrade it extends the original line with the upgrade. You are just giving the new phone to a different line.
A little known secret is that Verizon will allow you to switch contract end dates with other lines, but only when you are terminating a line.

Yes, you can add a line (up to 5) to get a new phone, but then you have a new 2 year contract on that line. Then when your end date comes on your line you can use it to cancel the new line.

I've done this multiple times to keep unlimited data on our phones. We keep a dumb phone on our 5th line just for this.
But whatever upgrade you give to the dumb phone, that phones contract is the one that gets extended. Not the dumb phones's.

I work for a retailer and this is true. You will extend the contract on the number with the upgrade but if it's applied to a feature(basic) phone then you won't loose your unlimited data. Once the phone is activated on the basic phone line it can be then be transferred to your number.

I just went to a Verizon Corporate store and they swore that, as of the end of last year, the original line that the upgrade is transferred from will get its contract extended and lose its unlimited data. This flies in the face of everything everyone is saying on this thread. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Thanks for you're encouragement. This is all so confusing. I called Verizon and asked a rep, and she said it would absolutely make me lost the unlimited data on the line. Do people here think they're instructed to lie about this, or is it that as far as they know it's the policy, but in actual practice the data on the line remains unlimited? I did find a Verizon premier retailer store (ie non-corporate) that said it would not affect the original line's unlimited data. Just scared to death I'll pull the trigger here and lose.

To be honest its been a while since I've done this and for all we know they may have either 1. Tried to close this "loophole" in their system or 2. they tell all their employees that it causes you to loose unlimited data but you really don't.
You can always try. If you walk out the store and see unlimited is gone just go back in and return it.

That seems like a good plan, but the question is, and maybe this one is easier to answer, how long does it take them to boot you off unlimited and onto a tiered plan? Will you see it immediately, or "eventually"? If it's "eventually," the timing on returns may be tricky.

The corporate store said no as well. I ended up finding a Verizon rep on chat on their site who guaranteed I could do it and said he would notate my file to that end, so I ordered the phone online. I pray to god he's right when I call to activate the phone. I do have a copy of the chat I can send to the activation rep if he disagrees, fingers crossed...

Yes. i was skeptic as well. But, I did that on line over a month ago and it works. Just transfer your upgrade (from the unlimited line) to another line (dumb phone or smartphone, doesn't matter). When you get the new phone, activate it first on the line that upgrade was transferred to. Then, reactivate the new phone on your unlimited line. It works.

You should have hopped on unthrottled unlimited data last summer when you had the chance

You can still change just go to your myaccount on tmobile's website. It lets me have the option of changing my 5gb with tethering to unlimited no tethering.

Not sure what amazing speeds you expect our of 2g. If you aren't gonna get the unlimited plan don't complain about throttled service lol.

EDGE is, was, and will continue to be super slow. It DOES have enough bandwidth to power pandora and check e-mail! just can't have anything auto syncing.

Hi guys. I didn't want to make a new thread but I am currently on Verizon unlimited data and I want to open a account with T Mobile for a 2nd phone. I'm just unsure if they throttle you or not or is it truely unlimited? If they offer unthrottled unlimited how much does it cost a month? Thx

I came from Verizon too with unlimited data. So far it's been almost a month now and it's truly unlimited. I'm still using the mobile hotspot and I'm getting at least 15-20mbps. I just checked my data and wasted 18gb. Most of the time I'm using the native mobile hotspot. My backup is WiFi tether.
My plan is unlimited. $50+20

Thx. So its $70 for unlimited 4g data? Sounds good. I'm paying $63/month for grandfathered unlimited Verizon data now but I want to be prepared when they do try and get rid of me. Might have to get a T-Mobile account.

TB??????!!!! Wowserz. I only use like 6-8gb/month. I don't abuse anything. Just stream audio at work everyday. I just need to make sure I won't get throttled. I really want the HTC one and tmobile.

Don't give people the wrong idea. Hotspot works perfectly for me right out of the box, as I'm posting this using wifi from my 6P to my laptop. And yes, I have Sprint.
Only speculation will tell what happened with your 6P. but hotspot is working here.
Out the box it does not work for me either. However I hear through Bluetooth it works OK. I plan on trying tomorrow

What plan are each of you on as that may be an indicator of hot spot availability. It works on my but I am on a share plan that includes tethering on my data allotment.
My VZW sim the hotspot works
So I guess Sprint hotspot works out of the box if you PAY for it [emoji19]

My hotspot also does not work. I'm on the unlimited plan with no tethering. So it does seem you have to have it on the plan.

I have the Unlimited plan. I couldn't keep the Unlimited My Way plan I had with my Note 3.
Now that I've just carefully read Sprint's Unlimited Everything plan details, I see that 3 GB mobile hotspot IS included. I did not know that! BUT...since this is not a Sprint device loaded with their bloatware & security settings, & the 6P already HAS hotspot capability built in, could there be any correlation?
Anybody come from a Moto Nexus 6? If so are you happier with 6p? I love my Shamu and not sure I wanna grab 6p.. Just curious if anyone made leap from 6-6p and what ya thought....
I jumped from the 6 to the 6p. It's super nice, doesn't rock on the table, and the finger print scanner is really good, but I have dozens of micro USB cables. Having to buy a bunch of type c cables/chargers is a bit annoying since many of the ones out there are crap right now.

Honestly that would depend on when you got your plan because the new unlimited plan includes the hotspot but if you got your plan before October 16th or 17th then it won't retroactivly give you hotspot functionality. But subscribers after that date you get the new 3 gigs of hotspot included with unlimited data. You a specifically have to upgrade to the new plan. But you would have to see how that differs in terms to the one that you have now. But if hotspot was already on your plan it should work automatically as is doing for mine.
Very curious if anyone figures how to get tethering to work without root ideally.
man.... i did not know i needed a "new" type of nano sim.

I also made this switch from Shamu and have to say do it. Loved the hell out the N6 but the 6P is a way nicer phone IMO.
Blazing fast and seems more of a premium phone.

I'm having a problem with the 6P where after a call the phone reconnects at 3G instead of LTE. I live literally 300 yards from a spark tower so this shouldn't be happening . My nexus 5 never does this.
Steps to reproduce.
1. Call your voice mail , after answer ,hang up.
2. Phone is on 3G
3. After a few minutes phone switches back to B25 and after about 10 minutes gets back on B41.
Doesn't happen every time ,maybe 1 out of 3 so please try it a few times.

You could maybe try resetting your phones connection using the dialer...
#*#*72768*#*#
Then try the Update Device Config under Carrier Settings. Sprint told me that it sometimes can take a very long time for the phone to be provisioned correctly.
Worth a try answers y

Yep , did that. May open a ticket with Sprint.
