I have come across so many questions about rooting, bootloader and flashing that I decided to give a brief idea what is it all about..
I will use as simple words as possible.
When you buy your phone, you are on STOCK ROM and KERNEL. (its from your mobile manufacturer)
Rom is the system on which phone works (like windows for PC) and KERNEL is programmed code that tells the phone how to function in accordance to the ROM.
ROM & KERNEL can be custom or stock. Customisation helps in running the phone according to our needs.
The STOCK ROM & KERNEL is usually based on all rounder to fit most of the users . However, some of us want more from our phone in terms of battery life, performance, speed etc. However, increase battery may affect your performance but not necessarily. Thus modifications are used which are SPECIFIC for every model. this means you can't use one kernel/Rom for another model USUALLY. This will brick your phone. Some modifications in ROM for one model can help it to be used in another.
You decided to install a custom Rom/Kernel.
Well, the first thing ýou need to do is UNLOCK your bootloader. With unlocked bootloader, you can install all custom and stock Roms without any problem of your specific model. With locked bootloader, ýou might be able to install few custom Roms designed for locked bootloader.
BOOTLOADER is basically a lock in your phone which doesn't allow modifications to your phone by the company. Unlocking bootloader voids your warranty and stops automatic updates of your STOCK ROM. however, you can easily lock your bootloader again any time without company's knowledge and manually install STOCK Updates.
REMEMBER THIS COMES BEFORE ROOTING UNLESS YOU ARE INSTALLING A CUSTOM ROM WHICH IS PRE-ROOTED AND ALLOWS LOCKED BOOTLOADER.
ROOTING
This is basically modification to take over your system. It simply means that some system files which couldn't be modified can be changed. This simply means that now you have complete power of your ROM and hardware. You can change values , overclock your processor or put your hardware in hibernation to increase speed or enforce 3D gaming cards to play HD games which you couldnot play before. Usually apps are used to change these values. You will have SUPER USER OR SUPER SU added in your apps list.
FLASHTOOL :
This tool is from Sony to install ROMS and KERNEL in your Xperia.
This tool is use to install any kind of STOCK version. You can get UK STOCK version, USA Europe etc
ADVANTAGES OF ROOTING
- You get full access to your phone's Hardware and software
- You can Overclock CPU clock speed and make phone faster
- You can Install many mods to improve camera, audio and video playback quality
- You can Install Beats Audio Drivers to enhance audio output
- You can increase speaker / earphone volume using volume hack
- You can Install Custom ROMs and Apps
- You can take the hell out of your device and Improve user experience
Rooting is safe and reversible, You can unroot your phone if you want. It won't void you're warranty etc
SOME ROOT APPS WHICH CAN ENHANCE THE PERFORMANCE
DroidWall
Dual Mount SD Widget
Hexamob Recovery Pro
Keyboard Manager
LEDs Hack
Rot Call Blocker
Samba Filesharing
Titanium Backup
Chainfire 3D ........... gaming and using different Graphic modules to run heavy games
Control CPU.... overclock processor
DISADVANTAGES OF ROOTING
-Chance to brick your device if the wrong software gets flashed. This can be EASILY reversible
-Warranty is void. You can flash STOCK ROM again and no one will have a clue you did that. So it can be reversible.
-Because, after Rooting you give permission (programmes ask, its not default) to softwares. If you give it to a malicious software, it can result in Viruses. FLASHING again can help.
In all honestly, I am using rooted devices for over 2 years and I never had any problem with viruses however, I have bricked my device few times by accident. (I have flashed and rooted almost every one to two weeks and I am just going to do now after writing this )
This is a short synopsis of steps :
1.Unlock bootloader usually done from official website . Just google your phone name with unlock bootloader. For example : UNLOCK BOOTLOADER XPERIA U
Some phones have unlocked bootloaders (Samsung etc)
2.Root your phone , in Sony case, we usually use FLASH TOOL or Binary method.
UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER :
I will give you a rough idea!
Basically, when you buy your phone it is locked from the manufacturer so no changes can be made to the software(STOCK ROM & KERNEL ) and thus this way, they can stop users to modify their software which might result in damage and they do not want to be responsible for that. SO unlocking bootloader voids your warranty. However, this can be reversible.
Usually, you will need fastboot. It is part of SDK manager which is used for Android development.
What you usually do is that you go in CMD in windows (Type that in Run)
Go to the folder where fastboot you have placed. You will need to go in that folder to in CMD Eg. C:/fastboot/
Then you connect your phone in fastboot mode. Eg. Xperia U shows blue light in fastboot mode. It could vary though for other handsets.
The trick to boot into FASTBOOT is, switch off your phone. Then you hold down volume UP key. and while holding the key , you connect your phone to the PC via USB cable.
A BLUE LIGHT WILL TURN ON and this will show you are connected to fastboot.
Then you enter your key, taken from official Sony and unlock your bootloader.
More details here :
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
If you have any questions or want to know the method, do not hesitate to ask.
I hope this helps!

Cons are simply that your warranty is void however you can still lock your bootloader.
Secondly you can not get updates from Sony. You will need to flash STOCK manually.
That's all the cons for you which are not that of a disadvantage!
Plus, I am on unlocked bootloader. All my apps and games are running smoothly. It depends on the ROM. if you are using a stable rom , you won't have a problem but if you are using a nightly build ROM (with bugs and in testing phase), you can come across such problems!

This is general forum and not for question and answers. However, I will reply
Which device are you using ?
Secondly, usually to go into recovery, restart your phone and when you see the SONY logo start pressing VOLUME DOWN KEY. Either the colour of your LED will change or you will get a vibration. This will take you into recovery.
Also note that if you are on LOCKED bootloader, there is different trick to install recovery and root and if you are on UNLOCKED bootloader, You can easily do both ROOT and RECOVERY by simply flashing a kernel or recovery/Root using cmd with fastboot!
Good luck!
Nice !

Hi, thank you for your post, it still heps in 2015!
As far as I understand, I would rather compare ROM to PC firmware (mostly BIOS) and KERNEL to core services and drivers of Windows (or any other system like Linux which kernel is the base of Android system).
That's all, folks!
hi bro, great guide for noobs like me i just have a question though... can we flash stock rom on custom kernel.... i'm using Experimental Kernal V12 with custom JB rom... i need to go back to Stock ICS... so can i just flash ICS or do i have to flash stock kernel too... i mean would'nt flashing stock kernel will remove precious CWM recovery...

WARNING!!!!!Use of the following has been know to cause bricks and/or loss of functions in most of the devices it was attempted on. Because of this, the Thread was permanently closed. However the files will remain to assist in further development. Additionally, there is no promise if any of the links still work. So if you choose to mess with these files, you do so knowing it will probably brick your device.

Updates
8/30/2011 Added stock recovery image for those wishing to use pudding remover.
8/25/2011 Pudding remover added. This restores your stock bootloader. 4G will be restored but your phone will be locked again. This is only the bootloader, so system changes will not be removed (root, recovery, program data, etc). Having the custom recovery still installed with the locked bootloader may cause problems (soft-brick, you will need to use full sbf or re-unlock and flash back the stock recovery). will cause you to soft brick. You will need to reflash the unlocker to recover and either leave it unlocked or restore the stock recovery and use the pudding remover afterwards. Thank you tuxy for being the only one basically willing to test this.
8/16/2011 Just a quick update on the 4g issue, most likely this will go unresolved until your kernel source is released and someone with the appropriate skills in kernel hacking fixes your ATAGS passed by the bootloader. For now you can either be unlocked and use 3g, or locked and use Wimax/4g. Pick your poison, at least neither is a permanent thing.

Who does/doesn't need this.
You need this if:
1) You need to flash custom single partitions such as system, osh, boot.img, recovery, or data.
2) Mainly for testing custom kernels, see number one.
3) You have a real ROM with a custom kernel, like CM7 or MIUI, and want to flash it.
You don't need this if:
1) Number one in the last section doesn't make any sense to you or sounds like gibberish.
2) You wanna show your friends how much cooler or better than them you are.
3) You just want to install P-ROMs and Themes.

Pudding remover:
Directions:
1) Make sure you are on the stock Recovery. If not, flash the image I provided below using this command:

http://diamantephoto.com/photon_nopudding4u.rar - 1mb bootloader only, stock locked bootloader. For those of you who want a quick way to return to 4G.
Howto:
Is your phone fully charged? This should be first thing you check whenever you flash anything.
0) Back up all your apps and anything else you want to keep that is stored in /data, YOU WILL LOSE ALL FILES IN /DATA
1) Flash the pudding sbf file via sbf_flash(*nix/Mac) or RSDLITE(Windows).
2) Get moto-fastboot in your $PATH or at least in the same directory as the command line you open.
3) Open a command line or well, linux users know what to do, in the folder with pudding.
4) Type moto-fastboot oem unlock
5) Look for the UNIQUE ID number and copy it, use copy or your fat fingers might mistype it.
6) Type moto-fastboot oem unlock YOUR_UNIQUE_ID_THAT_YOU_JUST_COPIED
7) Enjoy!
Here is a picture of the steps on a windows command line (yes, I renamed moto-fastboot to just fastboot on my PC.) The blurry bits are where YOUR unique ID shows/is entered.

A moto-fastboot flashable /system image with su already in /system/bin (pre-reooted) This is based of the system in Yay4jugg's thread (NB: you need to be unlocked to flash this .)
Instructions:
0) Make sure your phone is charged.
1) Boot your phone in to fastboot mode, connected to PC.
2) At the prompt/cmdline type moto-fastboot flash system system.img
3) Make sure you have superuser app installed from market.

Problems?:
1) Don't panic.
2) Stop panicing.
3). If you get the following error messages, try restarting the flash process from the start:
- The "secure_motorola_flash" interface could not be found the super-file is secure and for re-flash, the phone needs a super-file that is not secure and for reflash. (0x7066)
4) Just try and go through with the unlock process anyhow
5) Try a different USB port, this is most likely because windows will reinstall all the drivers.
6) Try a different version of RSD Lite.
7) Make sure you put your phone in to USB NONE before plugging it back in. If you do not do this your system will not install all the devices correctly. Alternately, try Motorola Phone Portal mode.
8) Last resort PM me with very specific information about your problem and if applicable screen shots from your computer or phone.
Big thanks to Yay4juggs and Edgan.

Hey you,
My name is Rick, and I am never gonna give you up. All of you have let me down, made me cry, and spent all day telling lies and hurting people. Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten this from any other guy? I mean, I guess it's fun knowing the game and playing it, but you all take to a whole new level. Inside we both know what's been going on.
Don't be a stranger to love. You know the rules and so do I. I'm pretty much perfect. I have been nominated for a Grammy, and had a #1 hit. What games do you play, other than "running around deserting people"? And if you ask me how I’m feeling, I also have a banging hot girlfriend (We’ve known each other for SO long). I just wanted to tell you how I was feeling. I gotta make you understand.

I _never_ ask for donations so don't feel obligated to, the work I do is a lot less intensive and technical than people imagine. As I've said before 99% credit belongs to moto for making this, 0.5% to the leaks/people who provide the leaks, and I'm happy to take the last 0.5% credit for being the script kiddie that assembles the pudding.
Before the files are posted for the public to download, we need to make sure that there are no side effects from this. Yay4Juggs and the rest of the testers should take their time and check to see if anything else was affected. Maybe if there was a ROM or 2 that they could test to see that it works that would be great.
I am already excited today to find out about dockless rooting but if the unlocked bootloader can be released, that would be a double whammie weekend.

That's precisely the reason that it hasn't been posted yet. There still may be side effects in the future as we are seeing with the atrix. Be warned, the unlock is irreversible and you should be careful. Most people will not need an unlocked bootloader. When you get custom kernels and CM that is another matter. People who dev this stuff can certainly use the unlock wisely. Till there is a reason for you to unlock I wouldn't bother unless you are adventurous and have a spare phone 99% of the reason people need / want unlock is for a custom kernel the other 1% is for using fastboot or non-bootstrap cwm. Hopefully you will have a non-bootstrap CWM soon. I'm rambling so I'll stop talking.
Im waiting and could care less if it bricked my phone......I'll recover from it. I'm prepared.
I would be using ......fastboot or a non-bootstrap cwm (when one is available).
i understand CWM is possible now and the reason for me unlocking my boot-loader is to get it done before someone puts the brakes on it.
I like to have access to the things i own based on principal. Its the same reason why i refuse to pay twice for the same data stream i already pay for in order to tether.

Managed to get it rooted with both SuperOneClick and UNLOCKROOT. Well, at least these 2 apps reported that the phone is successfully ROOTED. However, when check with RootChecker and Root Checker Basic from Google Play, both apps said the phone not rooted.

Hi Textwiller,
Did you managed to root your N8000+ JB 4.1? Just curious.
I managed to root my N8000+ JB 4.0 set but not the set with JB 4.1.....
Have a very tough time to get the Star N8000 4.1.1 rootted
Can anyone help, please?
I have tried everything, from OneClickRoot, UnlockRoot, Root with Restore (V25) - and they all fail.
It seems like the filesystems cannot get remounted - even after busybox has been copied to the /data/.... directory.
Any ideas?

My current ROM is: e1908_v77_jbl1_9p017_6628 build date: 20121220

Finally got it rooted - here's how.
Hi all, my first post on xda-developers
I was really annoyed by the fact that no procedure seemed to work on my Star N8000+ (JB 4.1.1) e1908_v77_jbl1_9p017_6628 ORIGINAL STOCK ROM. I tried everything, from SuperOneClick to chinese rooting software... Nothing seemed to work. And since I have an untouched stock rom, and I had no wish to reflash the phone, I was left in the dark.
But, after lots of searching, experimenting and tons of trial-and-error with trying to understand scatter files and partitioning stuff, I finally managed to root my device with no need to use adb or to reflash the phone.
I'm posting a step-by-step guide for complete noobs like me. So here's the method I used (hope it works for all of you who aren't getting any luck with other methods, just like I was):
Download this file N8000+e1908_v77_jbl1_9p017_6628-Root.zip and copy it to your phone's sdcard;
Enter the phone's system recovery menu:
Turn phone OFF;
Hold Volume + key and turn phone ON. Keep holding Volume + until the below robot picture shows on your device. When it appears you can release the Volume + key;

Press the menu touch key (on the left of the phone's home button). A list of options will appear.
Using the Volume + or - key, highlight the "apply update from sdcard" option and press the phone's home button;
Using the Volume + or - key, find and highlight the N8000+e1908_v77_jbl1_9p017_6628-Root.zip file you've already saved on your sdcard (step 1). Once highlighted, press the phone's home button. Update will start;
When the update finishes, reboot your phone by using the Volume + or - key to select the "reboot system now" option and then press the phone's home button. Phone will reboot normally.
After all this, you should have root access to your phone
Files included on zip:
su v. 1.27
SuperSU v. 1.30
BusyBox v. 1.20.2
As always people mention when posting such procedures (and I think they are right), do it at your own risk. Although I feel and think that the above method is pretty safe and harmless, I will take no responsibility for any damages your phone may suffer. If you feel insecure about anything, just browse the sources on the zip package to check that the contents do not intend to harm your phone. I can assure you that I did all this just to try to help everybody who's out there, lost with rooting this wonderful device.
The above procedure worked flawlessly on my Star N8000+ (JB 4.1.1) e1908_v77_jbl1_9p017_6628 ORIGINAL STOCK ROM. If your phone version is different, it may or may not work. I think no harm could be done by trying (I guess the worst thing that could happen was the update to be refused to be applied due to certification incompatibility or wrong scatter/partition info). Once again, do it at your own risk.
Bonus: un-Root.
If you managed to successfully root your device using the above procedure, then you can undo it (unroot) by following the same above steps again, but instead of using the original zip file posted on step 1 use this one: N8000+e1908_v77_jbl1_9p017_6628-Root-UNINSTALL.zip
1. What is a bootloader?? Do all phones have bootloaders?? My maxx is supposed to have a locked bootloader, what does that mean?? Is development for the phone harder??
I know that motorola said that maxx HD will have an unlocked bootloader "to assist development", and i noticed xda forums for Razr HD show 2 links/sections for android development. How are the two related?
2. What are fastboot files?? Why is there so much emphasis on getting the CORRECT fastboot files. I remember my OS version being Asia Retail something-something. RSD Lite is mentioned quite often with fastboot files. Do i need it??
3. Now, i have rooted my phone, if something goes wrong and i want turn into service, can i reinstall the stock OS and give it for servicing without Motorola people knowing that i ever rooted my phone.
Elaborate and detailed explanations are welcome
Lastly, i'd like to thank all the devs for giving clearcut straight forward instructions so that Noobs like me can also root their phones and install cool ROMs. Thank You!!!!
What is a bootloader??
Bootloader is a piece of code that runs before any operating system is running. And yes all phone infact all laptops,PCs have them. MAXX and Razr series are having locked bootloaders and development is hard cuz you can't install custom kernels and making full use of ur phone's hardware is not possible.
What are fastboot files??
Fastboot is protocol used to update the flash filesystem in Android devices . SO in layman's term's it's like ur XP OS CD....if something is messed up you can always install OS back to stock,.....And yes correct fastboot is required cuz of locked bootloader u can't install different regions fastboot files cuz they are all different....And to fastboot you have to use RSD but there are other ways to given in forum but RSD is the easiet atleast for me...
Now, i have rooted my phone, if something goes wrong and i want turn into service, can i reinstall the stock OS and give it for servicing without Motorola people knowing that i ever rooted my phone.
Yes u can reinstall the stock but dude in india service center is **** and they can't even determine anything and even im from bangalore only so i had given my rooted phone to them for service and guess what they gave new phone after 15 days.....
Hope it helps and answers ur questions....

1. So where do i get the fastboot files for indian versions of our maxx??
2. Does locked bootloader mean that i cannot install ROMs made for JB kernel??
3. What was the problem with your piece??
1. Somewhere in this forum there was fastboot file for asia retail....but that file is been removed so u have ask some dev to upload it...
2. Yes...but there are other ways to install JB kernel but are not recommended for noobs...better wait for OTA or go for D-wizz if u want to try JB..
3. I had insatlled some CM9 rom which caused deep battery drain resulting in mobile not to power on at all....tried all ways to bring it back to life but failed finally have to give it to service center located in jayanagar 4th block...they gave me new mobile but didn't said anything abt problem....So its better to be carefull with our phones cuz motorola has shutdown their services in india...
And what about flashing kernel?
How does it differ from flashing ROM?
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
A kernel is a layer of code that allows the OS and applications to interface with your phone's hardware. The degree in which you can access your phone's hardware features depends on the quality of code in the kernel, where as ROM contains the interface to allow user to interact with Kernel. So most rom's are having their own kernel but not in case of our phones cuz of damn locked bootloader there are no custom kernels but there is methods available to use custom kernel by bypassing bootloader. So basically kernel flashing gives u better battery, hardware tweaks where as ROM gives u better interface and other software level tweaking.Hope it helps
Thanks a lot

Many thanks assassin34 for your answer.
So in case of our phone, flashing the kernel by bypassing bootloader what happen to the existing ROM, will it work or need to be installed again?
Cheers
Metalhead_rulz
if ur using safestrap or Bootmenumanager then u can retain existing rom's but to bypass bootloader u need to use kexec based ROM which are available in this forum....but the rom is not yet full functional i mean there are some bugs but u can always try if and only if u r experienced enough ....if ur newbee then stay away from it just a suggestion.....
Okay..
After a long testing and debugging session with AbduL_PT
This Guy is the only one who can make TWRP work with Rockhip devices. Check his thread and give him some BEER. He Deserve it!:good:
We finally come up with TWRP for our device!!! :victory:
DISCLAIMER: Rooting any Android device or installing a custom ROM firmware will void the warranty of the device and might only be restored by flashing the phone back to stock firmware and uninstalling custom recoveries and such.
I take no responsibility for any malfunctioning or any wrong doing happening to your device(s) by you following this guide. Proceed at your own risk!
Instructions.
Please make sure that you are familiar with RKtools and installing driver from device manager before you proceed on this
For fast booting to flash mode and recovery mode. Please install this app. ROOT required
Bootloader = Press Power + volume (nearest to the powerbutton) for 5 seconds or until Windows detect new device
Recovery = Press power + both volume buttons. One logo show up release power button and keep pressing volume buttons
1. Dowload the zip file to this LINK
includes
RKtool
stock and TWRP recovery
RK29adbdrivers
2. Unzip it and run update
3. Plugin your tablet to you PC .
4. Launch reboot app and choose "Bootloader" or turn off your device do and it manually with buttons
3. Windows will look for drivers and install driver like this guide using the driver I provided
4. Once RKtools detect your device (ii will show Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb). hit the "RUN" button and dont press anything else until your device reboot
5. launch reboot app and choose "Recovery" or turn off your device do and it manually with buttons
ENJOY
If you want to go back to stock recovery
launch RKTOOLS again and choose "recovery-stock" image from Recovery folder
I was able to do FULL NANDROID BACKUP and RESTORE successfully using this recovery
Since our device use /data/share as Internal SD card, we have manage the following (credits joe.stone)
Fixed Internal SD handling , now it is correctly /data/share not data/media .
Fixed wipe of Data . Now it does not removes the content of internal SD.
BUGS
1. Data nandroid backup the whole /data partition (includes /data/share which is Internal SD card)
2. Internal SD nandroid back up /data partition as well
3. Default Storage is internal SDcard (it can change to External SD on Mount Menu)
4. If FORMAT Data is chosen on Wipe Menu, reboot to recovery is required
5. For wiping Cust partition, put a tick on "Use rm -rf" on Settings

and ofcourse..
AbduL_PT and for this TWRP thread for everything... Again this Guy deserves a Thanks and a BEER! LOL!
If you appreciate it , Give those Guys a THANKS and Click that THANKS button below ( dont be so ungrateful [email protected][email protected]#($! )

Tried today your beta on my Huawei Mediapad 7 Lite (S7-931u) and seems to me, it is working just fine!
I can only say, great job guys! :good:
Had same issues with Cust partition like in BUGS section of you introduction post, but in the end recovery went OK.
Tried compressing backup and restore and it works.
Didn't try Install option of the recovery, cause i don't know any custom ROMs existing for this tablet, and didn't try Mount option cause don't know what to test.
One minor thing/bug I noticed (if it is even important), when recovery is done and press reboot my tablets screen flips upside down until reboot, afterwards it back to normal.
Anyway, thanks for your effort, now it is time to experiment without reinstall everything from scratch
So what exactly does this do to a device?
TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a custom recovery just like CWM (ClockworkMod).
Custom recovery is used for different OS customization, but mostly is used for installing custom ROMs (like CyanogenMod, CarbonROM, etc.) and full device backup and restore, well at least that is why is mostly known for.
If you are interested in more on TWRP you can follow this links for more: link1, link2

yeah.. the first twrp releases created for this device is inverted... Abdul just add some tweak to get the proper orientation for our device
good thing you confirm that nandroid back up works!
are you part of 4pda people?
Yes, nandroid backup works ok, at least on my model.
Didn't have other ROM to test, but I've tested it by "destroying" some parts of stock ROM (apps, settings, etc.) and tried recovery.
Maybe I'll try some RK2918 generic ROM if found something useful.
No, I'm not part of 4PDA people/community, why do you ask?
I'm just a enthusiast who started tinkering around this tablet frustrated with its stock ROM (in)stability.
I've read some 4PDA forum posts and they really have interesting discussions on the subject of Mediapad 7 Lite, but sometimes I'm a bit lost in translation even when using Google Translate. Cyrillic I can read, but speaking/writing Russian sadly no.

Thats nice... anyway i found some generic rk2918 cm10 i will to port one...
Since I am kinda new to this stuff, just to be clear, can I flash a custom ROM and update my Android using this and if yes, where do I get the ROM from and are there any particular instructions for flashing it?
TWRP is not custom ROM, but recovery/install tool that can help you install custom ROMs.
You can flash only custom ROM that is compatible with your device. E.g. MediaPad 7 Lite is based on RK2918 System-on-chip (aka. SoC), and it needs ROM with configuration (settings, drivers, etc.) for that hardware configuration, so it is not easy task to make fully compatible custom ROM, especially if you don't know or don't have source code for you device.
Android platform has very high device "fragmentation", so custom ROM for device with similar hardware specs, can still make your device unusable or bricked at worst if not careful.
As I said before, I didn't find any custom ROM for Mediapad 7 Lite, but I've seen some customization on stock ROM (based on SP19 firmware) on 4PDA forum (but I think it contains only Russian localization - I'm not sure!)
There are some RK2918 custom ROMs (mostly CM10) for some tablets, but don't know it they would be easily customized to this tablet.
Search XDA forum, it has a lot of forum threads on this and similar subjects.
Anyway... if you plan to experiment, you need to be careful, if you don't want your tablet to become "PaperWeight 7 Lite"
Thank you for you're reply. I will for now, keep my device as it is. Thank you for you're time.

eg inside build.prop I can see
ro.product.brand=yuandao

ro.product.model=n70s

secondly inside init.rc there is no line to import the usb rc file instead I only see this import

altho I have no experience with TWRP I have ported 3 CTRs that show at needrom, so I have some skills....modest too
Did you guys focus on the big picture and forget to update the text files?
Do you mind if I have a go at fixing and either pm you a download link or forum link?
cheers and thanks for reading
Hmmm!?
I am sorry to bring more bad news......but I think I have a found a possible answer to why the id is wrong in TWRP.
EDIT and I am hoping this is the reason why fastboot is not working for me, altho I know not all devices support fastboot. As my udev is right, rebooting and looking for fastboot is currently a fail........but thats one more test I shall have to do in rebuilding our TWRP.
The id is wrong in the stock BOOT image unpacked. That is, our porter may have taken that id as gospel without checking it independently. Also I am aware our device will still have different ids such as for the modem which is often a different manufacturer........I am often wrong.....but this I feel explains the human error in TWRP.
It shows for its init.rc
write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/idVendor 18d1
Click to collapse
forgive me for pointing out the correct id is 12d1 as showing here
http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids
For anyone interested 18d1 is Google.
2) EDIT I was initially planning to have a go at fixing our current TWRP. The time to edit and check stuff is roughly the same time and effort to port a more recent TWRP.
For that reason, if I brick my device, only I have bricked it and all other users are not mislead.......giggles.
I have found that Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a 7 inch 600 x 1024 pixels and someone has kindly uploaded TWRP 2.8.4.0 for it at the TWRP site. So fingers crossed I can port that correctly. Later, if device is still alive, I can mod our boot image to correct specs.
cheers and thanks for reading
Go ahead.. Let us know what can you accomplish.. Remember samsung doesnt use Rk flatform.. If you want to go further more.. You can ask Abdul.. He is a very helpful guy

Newest Nougat rom is availabe at here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7/development/rom-axvy-rom-sm-j7108-stable-sexy-af-t3687461
I posted previously for j7108 https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7/development/j7108-android-6-0-1-marshmallow-rom-t3542561
This Rom contain Google Play too.
Bloatware is heavily removed, after flash this Rom you will able to uninstall them!
- using newest update from Samsung
- Camera seem to focus faster and able to capture clearer picture
- phone app has new transition
Lot of preloaded apps/bloatwares are removed properly, it will be very long if I list them all.
Tips for keyboard:
Set Keyboard Swipe to Cursor Control, when you typing you can move the cursor up down left right easily
Keyboard size is helpful especially for those screen with problem
Download language pack to enable spell checking.
Edited build.prop for optimisation, check that old thread. Lot are the same except I remove the nobootanimation already.
My warranty is voided last time because I didn't know about frp lock while flashing wrong rom of other country.
To close Frp Lock, enable Developer Options(google it for step), enable OEM Unlock before flashing
Yet I did not add root to this rom for now, comment if you need it.
I do not know if this rom will void your warranty. Feel free comment to tell us. (Mine after flash in Odin mode said official firmware thought)
In summary I think this rom is better, if you have any request, leave a comment below
Will Void waranty!!!

No error version. No need format or wipe your phone and all Knox Carmode stub etc removed in compare to top one:
press backspace to hide keyboard. Files below all extract one time and ready to flash.
1. Flash this first: https://mega.nz/#!qUsXmbwD!Q-rr7wJW7AKYi0xsTIZZvhhDG2zHCCbDAWiAA_mS4JY
2. Flash TWRP using odin https://mega.nz/#!ycc3nLBR!_do-RBTeOfIWvDK5enea8tJXDn5w1hyWuL7j7ZCuh5I select AP
3. Put zip to Phone folder or SD card, install using twrp HOME+POWER+ volume up: https://mega.nz/#!aNFECCRS!84XOLiu_-nyMoSSDTS0ym6dA3xek7Cc2GEHlbib30sE
Personal or application data will remain, this is just like update the Rom.
I have tested this rom before post it but still back up your phone. First boot time will be quite long, please wait for it.
Fyi, when preparing update it take lot of time processing, don't interrupt it and it will come to the last step optimise app.
First boot is always slow then it will be fine. Comment if you don't understand or face problem.

To remove password you have to go to https://findmymobile.samsung.com/?p=home
I will reupload soon but busy now
Or flash back stock then change pin, not a big issue
Link updated, added twrp j7108 download link
Hopefully it help more people out there, I hope you love this Rom
Further update and improved. I have perform lot of testing. It's stable. Lot of tweaks added.
It has symbol above every key, long press to use symbol. I really love Samsung Keyboard so much, especially the cursor.
To get red underline, for typo, download language pack first. Assistant Menu is come with the phone, google to enable it.
And quick tip to make your phone faster, enable developer mode then disable animation scale. Screenshot more is very nice, I want to thanks Samsung to provide such features allow me to enjoy their product so much. I hope they add edge panel soon, most useful feature.
Here is the new download link, you can find above too, you need twrp for j7108, check above.
THIS WILL VOID WARRANTY!!

If you mean not stock firmware release by Samsung then this is a custom rom.
For ultimate fast speed and hacks for j7108 Rom pm me.
It's release for private only
I installed this ROM but I seem to still have all the bloatware. You say after this flash I'll be able to uninstall bloatware, but it is as before, if I select uninstall it only gives me option to uninstall updates and return to factory version of apps.
Hmm, should I have wiped system and cache before flashing?
Clearly I have your new ROM installed because I now have the edge app which I did not before. Or, what did I miss.?
Before flashing I was at version J7108ZHU1BQB1 which is same as what you suggest we upgrade to first. Then I used Odin to flash j7first.tar and then J7108twrp-3.0.3.0.tar, then I used TWRP recovery to install ExcellentTweakedTrimmed.zip

Yes it should and it will, can you help me check which bloatware is not removed? Look:
can be completely uninstall
That's odd, both .img and twrp version will uninstall my apps.
You say it revert to old version? Flash it again perhaps since it match stock version of that app.
Really, I have tried both of then several time for bug testing, that's why I believe it will 100% work. NO wipe required ya, this is just like updat, DON'T reset as I have tested.
I am gladly to watch it over video to see at what's the problem, if you don't mind pm me your skype username.

Ha, OK, yes it does work. When I hit "uninstall" it gives me the same dialogue box as always before:
"Do you want to replace this app with the factory version? [Cancel], [OK]"
So I thought nothing had changed and I didn't even try to go further, But now I see that that if I select [OK], it actually does uninstall - it does not revert to the factory version like the dialogue box says it will..
I installed the TWRP version by the way
