When I got the phone two days ago, I spent most of my time immediately rooting and ROMing my phone. I knew I wanted to stay on TW because of some of the camera features, but I figured I'd keep all of the gimmicky Samsung features off.
However, I figured I'd at least learn what some of them do so that I could show off to my friends and family. :good: I just spent some time learning, and some are actually pretty cool. Which ones are you guys using the most?
I'll probably use multi-window the most, and just toggle it on when I need it. I doubt I'll keep any others on except for when I want to have some fun with them.
Also, would it really eat up that many resources to leave something like "quick glance" on? I know one could just as easily press the home button to turn the screen on, but this is pretty neat. Air jump wouldn't be bad to leave on either... or maybe air call-accept. AHH! What to do, what to do...
Let me know your thoughts!
Call me old school, but I still use my phone like a T-Mobile G1. All of these new gestures and "air motion" doo-dads are just not my cup of tea. I do like the host of new camera features and the bigger screen vs. my previous S3, but that's about it. It's a slick phone, and ever since I put CleanROM on it, it flies!
I do want to try out the WatchOn feature, but every time I am around my TV I constantly forget.

I kind of agree. They're a lot of fun to mess around with, but it's just as easy to use your finger to scroll a web page as it is to tilt it or wave your hand.
I forgot about the WatchOn feature. That ROCKS. When I'm lying in bed and can't find the remote I just use my phone.
I messed around with most of them but found they were more gimmicky than anything. I'm actually running the 6/6 CM 10.1 now and I couldn't be happier.

Running Clean ROM but I am using 2 Air Gesture features. Quick Glance and Air Call-Accept. They are functional and useful, especially if your hands are dirty or messy.
The only feature I find really useful is air gestures. I really like the quick status update you get when you swipe over the phone. great when I'm eating messy food (often)

That's exactly what made me try it out. I couldn't find my remote and gave it a try. It's actually pretty nice. The only thing that I can think of is Airview, the other stuff was kind of inconsistent to me. If Airview were supported in more apps it would be awesome.

I use:
The Camera features are pretty cool, I use quite a few of them often and this is the main reason I have not got to CM yet.
Smart Stay - to keep the phone on while I am reading things ... I am not sure if this is really needed though
Smart Scroll - This is helpful sometimes when reading long emails, but I think I may turn it off since it can sometimes be more annoying than not (eg. slightly tilting the phone scrolls)
Air view - I find this great for email .. I can quickly glance and see if I want to read the full message.
Screen mirroring (along with the samsung link app) - I use this to quickly show pics etc on my TV when people are over
watchOn - I actually use this much more than I expected ... it does confuse my Harmony when I try to use it to control everything, but I find it handy to change the volume or channel
I haven't really found a good reason to use the multi-window .. it would be better if it supported all apps maybe though.
I did not like the TW launcher so I replaced that with Nova Prime for now, I do miss some of the features in CM though (like widgets on lockscreen with security, etc...)
watchon is the only one i use at the moment. comes in very handy and i use it almost everyday.

For me the most productive use is gmail/email with calendar to enter events and things.
Just today I watched a YouTube music video while doing research on the band.

As for me: Motion Control: The more smartphones become the center of our lives, the less time we want to spend tapping at them to make stuff happen. Efficiency is what these motion controls are about, particularly the Turn Over To Mute/Pause and Direct Call, which will automatically call the contact on the screen if you hold the S4 up to your ear.

Though I don't multitask much on my phone. I actually find floating apps to be more useful...like a popup browser or a floating calculator that is present over the top of whatever app I am using. I can see how some people would find the multiwindow useful. I'd probably use it for finding directions on the internet then entering them into navigation if I used it for anything.

I agree. I really dig the mute/pause/reject call stuff. The direct call is neat as well, but it was also on my S3. I think the important thing to remember about the hand motions is that they are a sign of progress so, the more you use them, the more they will lead to better things. At least that is my opinion.
I just rooted mine and flashed cm 10.1 and I don't miss any of them. The only one I used was multi view but I prefer stock android over all the gimmicky Samsung software
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
turned them all off to save battery, however just received my battery and charger kit so I'll be playing with some these a bit more
I like being able to flip my phone over and silence any incoming calls. I also find myself using air scroll a lot.
I absolutely LOVE the extras this phone comes with...minus a s##tload of bloatware.
Multi window is def a favorite. I'm an arguer on social sites (lol) so i can be doing research on Chrome (love that on here) while typing stuff onto FB. Or watching/listening to a youtube video while surfing the web. Right now, only a few apps are compatible, but obv with more updates on the software, more will come.
I def love all my hand gestures. I def constantly use it to check my phone just by waving. i love to scroll the browser and look through my gallery without touching my phone (OCD about fingerprints). Love to connect to a call by waving. Hell, (when there's a nice light source behind you) the "eye" smart stay (which is really a head detector) works awesome when i'm watching tv/watching a youtube video as well, so it does pause when you look away.
The camera is def one of the best option on this phone. crystal clear quality, and the 12 different modes are awesome!!! esp "animated" mode, takes a series of pictures of you moving, and plays it in forward and reverse constantly. pretty cool. so is drama mode and eraser mode. hell, all of them are! great zooming in (with volume button) and great up close taking too.
I LOVE the watchon app! (remote control) i have my, and my fiance's house entire systems hooked up to it (tv, cable box, blu ray, dvd player). It's also fun as **** to mess with people out in bars and change the channel/turn tv off. especially since most people don't know it has an IR blaster.
Driving mode with S voice is AWESOME! Reads out texts to you and you can reply back with all talking. I said my command "wake up" word to "J.a.r.v.i.s" like in Iron Man lol.
I jsut rooted my phone 2 days ago after owning it for a month, the best thing about that is DELETING (with file explorer, best $4 spent) all the crap you don't want on your phone, and even better is the Clean 1.3 ROM that deletes most of it anyways, but great to finish up the rest manually since all you could do when it was stock is disable it.
Since I have Verizon, I love how my ROM puts a WiFi toggle (idk why verizon got rid of it and what benefit they achieved by doing that). and it got rid of the stupid "data" symbol up top. Also how it auto enables tethering (mobile hot spot) where as on stock if you turn "on" it says you don't have the subscription for it (which is a waste of money)
Currently looking into other kernels to OC the phone to like 2.1Ghz...not much more i know, but nice. Also, if you read up online, there's a bunch of cool stuff you can do/disable to make your phone a little faster.
I just love this phone. My last phone was an LG Spectrum and before that the LG Revolution and this phone is obv just superior to them
I disabled all of them within 5 minutes of turning on the device and really haven't looked back except for AirView. I've used it a few times just to show off the phone, but otherwise it stays disabled too.
The extra screen sensitivity I *do* have enabled though...because being able to use the phone with normal winter gloves is an amazing feature.
The only feature I miss after flashing my phone is the WatchOn one. It worked better than my remotes and easier to find. No matter where I went, I had a remote. ]
I use WatchON, Samsung link for airplay on my Samsung TV, air view and air gesture. I didn't find the eye tracking software to work well enough consistently to be worth it.
The latest watchON update however disabled the ability to power on and off my Samsung audiobar. I can still program it into the universal remote however it only allows me to control volume. Where the version that came with stock let me power on the audio system.

What I did was root my phone, and then I kept TW on it for a little while. It let me get rid of a lot of the extra bloatware on it but allowed me to use the few samsung features I have liked. The camera seems to be very cool from what I can tell. There are a lot of options there. The other great part is the multi-window and gestures. Waving my hand over my phone to answer calls is great.
None of them. AOSP, FTW!
Though I do miss having the IR blaster...

This is the pull down notification bar ... i liked it better with quick power control widgets on the top, HTC should of thought about implementing that... and maybe have the quick setting tab be favorite apps
here is another way of reaching frequent apps .. holding down home button... can be accessed from anywhere just like above method ... two things doing the same thing now.
And here is the application button which takes u to another screen (apps, frequent, downloads) with the star being frequent instead of favorites ...
How many ways do we need to reach frequent apps ... they def should of made one of them pull up favorite apps that could of been customized
If i am missing something .. please correct me .. who knows if this will change on the day of release but this is overkill to me in which they could of implemented more useful features ...
sorry for the rant .. just had to get that off my chest .. i feel better now .. how do we get HTC to read this ...LMAO
Yup, too much nonsense in Sense lol. AOSP is far cleaner and thus faster as well.
How did you change the "Sprint" name?
Yeah Im wayyyy too used to the power control widgets in the pull down. Gonna cross fingers they can get implemented. though I think itll be tough with the spot already taken up...
You realize other than the flashlight, all of the power widgets functionality is in the quick settings tab of the pull down. I don't really use the recent apps function but I'm not used to it being there. I ran a desire hd ROM before but ditches because of the lack of 4G. So its only been about 2 or 3 weeks that I'm rocking a sense 2.1 or 3 ROM. I'm going to live with it for a few months before I deem it redundant. If anything, I'd leave the recent apps in the pull down in place and replace the holding of the home key for running apps only. Or the home key for webos like running apps preview. I know there is an app that does that already but in my opinion its very clunky.
I like the multiple options. I use the pull down recent Apps. My girl uses the home key press. I have liking the second tab with power controls.

I'm running virus kingdom 1.3 right now and so far so good. My phone is very fussy so I'm surprised its working so well thus far. But if you want to try a sure fire 2.1 ROM (which has the recent apps pull down) I highly recommend mikg 1.03. That is the perfect compromise of new and exciting without issues and degraded performance. No special partitioning required either. Just flash and play.

Come on man, they are all the exact same post. You posted them all.
That said, I'm all for extra choices.
I really like the recent apps up there, its quicker when you are using your touchscreen to just flick it down and hit the app for me (im running synergy on my evo w/ it)
I've personally been using Task Switcher by Shisho since I got the evo.
A short press on the home button brings up your choice of running apps - or, if you enable it, recent apps as well.
The list is MUCH larger than the standard 6, and a quick second press drops you back to the home screen.
You can map a long press of the search button to it as well, but I never have. It's FAR more useful than the long home press, and the recent (but closed) apps list is great for pulling up something you've accidentally backed out of, even if you have half a billion other programs running.
That said, it does have its limits - the recently used apps do drop off after a while. I haven't figured out its method of dropping them *shrug*
This program has proven to be invaluable with the Sense 3.0 stability issues on the Evo.
It lets you select your home screen as well (press menu to reset it) - so switching between launchers takes mere moments, and can be accessed with only 5 presses from any app - one on home to bring up Task Switcher, one on menu, one to select the home screen, one to set it, and home again to launch it.
Go launcher served as a GREAT backup when Sense 3 failed me... but even going to Go Launcher was unnecessary 99% of the time - because of the recent/running app list in Task Switcher....

I did mine's differently, but I forgot how because it was a long time ago. I downloaded something called CDMA Tools, or something, and did everything on my PC. Therefore, I can't verify that the app works, but I've read positive feedback about it.

Are you doing a pre or post ICS? For me, I will wait for ics to come out before rooting. Then ill play with ICS heavily before adding a ROM.
-Over clocking all 4 cores to 2ghz a piece, if possible. For some serious horse power to compete with newer tablets coming down the road. Of course needs to be stable or doesn't overheat n melt the device..lol
-some sort of uploader for native browser or even compatible with 3rd party browser. For ex. Safari on my iPad couldn't upload or download on stock setup. With jailbreak n Cydia, I have safari downloader, which enables download manager in native browser, and safari uploader. Which allows me to upload something thru the browser by accessing device files. Ex. I go to a site I need to upload resume. I just click on upload link on page, then it accesses my files. Then I search for resume, click on it , and proceed to upload.
-Some sort of futuristic theming around Transformer prime, movie or whatever. Completely changes the look up to a more high tech device.
-optimize and increase camera/video quality even more, if possible. I know it's already good, but could be a way to raise MP rating through software adjustments.
-an app like g power, available from Cydia for JB iPad. I double tap the top of screen(through activator) and it brings up quick menu to power down, reboot, or respring(if that applies to android). Or maybe just subtle gestures to access important features of device or apps.
-make skype and any other video chat apps that don't work with prime, work
-Tegra 3 supports 3d. Maybe make a way to enable 3D mode, with or without 3d glasses.
-see if any ways to optimize/beef up the gpu even more.
-maybe a way to download and install IOS tablet apps/games through an emulator or some other way. So we have access to even more apps, especially since IOS tablet only apps far outnumber androids.
-dual boot capabilities , possibly windows
-hack pad tool set..lmao
-a special feature, cybertron mode, that whenever Prime is in vicinity of an IOS device, we can disable and shut it down. Then we go over n show off how cool the prime is and enable that device to run run again. Showing that we can amd did, fix the device wirelessly or if you want it completely disabled for life, so be it.
Just throwing stuff out there, I'll update this post as I come up with more ideas.

I'm sure that people will overclock it, but I don't think we need it at this point considering that even with stock, the TFP will likely annihilate anything currently out. It won't have to compete with any other tablets for a long time.

Many phone/tablet ROMS can already do this; all you have to do is hold the power button to bring up the menu.

Completely impractical. iOS is not open source like Android, and even ignoring Apple coming down on anyone that attempts to do it, the architecture for the two are completely different, so even emulating it isn't something that can be done. At the risk of exaggeration, building a rocket to the moon sounds more plausible.

Someone will do it eventually, I think.
Suggestion or aquestion of viability since I have no idea what you can really do developing a rom.
Some sort of "stylus mode" where large touches from your palm don't get registered and mess up your writing for all those apps that using a stylus is nice but don't have palm recognition.
There's something i think fits both transformer tablets perfectly: A native android IDE. Developing for Android and testing it in the same tablet you're coding on the fly. No need for an additional device.
As far as ROMs go.... i still don't have the prime so i can't see what should be changed
+1 on the stylus mode.
usb support. I'll try to explain. whatever needs to happen to make the usb adapter work like a "real" usb port like on the Iconia A500. I wanna use flash drives and the remote control dSLR app to controll my camera. If that isn't already built into ICS.
Not too crazy on the tweaks. I've noticed the more tweaks in cooked roms the more custom problems there are.

-a special feature, cybertron mode, that whenever Prime is in vicinity of an IOS device, we can disable and shut it down. NVM my last post.......what HE said....
tried to deodex the system, but im getting really wierd errors.. i htink its honeycomb related buttt.
Is it possible to have a four finger swipe function on the ROMs for the transformer to switch recent applications or to look at the recent apps like the iOS? i.e. As was previously asked gesture based OS would be pretty nice..
Also possibility of overclocking and undervolting, mainly the companion core for the background tasks which might improve the response further.. It is pretty good in comparison to old tablets from what the demos show but I guess bumping up the 500MHz 5th core could possibly help mundane tasks?
GPU improvements would be absolutely great- as previously mentioned..
Also perhaps a possibility of changing color saturation on the screen (in addition to the already present brightness- akin to settings on laptop GPUs)?
I see from a lot of demo photos in review sites that the camera gives a slightly reddish tinge to the photos- in comparison to the photos from Galaxy tab- it will be great to have some sort of a s/w fix to improve the quality..
As mentioned before, stylus mode would be very nice..
Possibly some sort of audio processing (like beats audio processing on the HTC sensation android revolution ROMS)..
i would say make a couple themes for it now but mainly study the ICS source code so that when it lands on the prime you can make the best ROM's possible and release them quicker. but im all for a windows 8 theme as long as it truly looks like windows 8 which im not sure if you can do without a launcher but i think windows 8 if it's good will finally convince me to switch from mac

A transformer silhouettes or style theme (doesn't have to contain pictures of the primes or what not) or maybe a 2 tone theme of cybertron very stylized so it's clean and slick.
Excuse me if there are themes like this out already (regardless I would like to do so 2 tone art work) and I would like some old school transformer sound bytes in there for transitions. I'm envisioning more of a theme of what a computer UI would look like on cybertron or to a transformer and not just a generic cartoon theme. =)
I thought we could list useful apps we've installed, and a quick summary of why. While browsing the Market I see a lot of comments "doesn't work with X", so I figured since we are blazing a new trail with our Notes we can save each other some aggravation and list ones we've found that definitely work.
Missed Message Flasher by TomatoX. Calendar only gives you one notification of an upcoming appointment, this lets you get multiple notifications until you stop it. Works for missed calls, texts, calendar and many others. I found the test notification in the setup does NOT work, but it does work for a real appointment. Haven't tried it with texts, calls yet. Edit 2/21, so far it doesn't appear to work with texts, let me know if you find otherwise. May try other options tonight. Edit 3/5, I'm still not sure I'm getting repeated notifications for anything other than calendar items, still testing.
Opera Mobile by Opera. Can't stand that the built-in browser can't identify as a desktop browser, but Opera Mobile can.
GPS Status & Toolbox by EclipSim. Nice real-time verification of all of your GPS stats, accelerometer, level, compass. Nice bonus, shows battery stats too (temp, %).
HotSpot Toggle by Mehdy Bohlool. One-click activation of the wifi hotspot. A little annoying that it doesn't line up with the other icons on the home screens, but it works.
XiiaLive Lite by Visual Blasters. For streaming ASX/WMA. I have a lifetime Internet account with SiriusXM. The sound quality from XiiaLive is much better than the SiriusXM app - the bit rate from the Sirius app is awful. I'm using this with a free online service called MusicDock. Use their "Windows Mobile" site (mentioned at the bottom of their home page) along with this app and you are golden.
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Simple, but works to modify the audio output, including on Blutooth.
Added 2/22
Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing. Same as Battery Percentage but is half the size (1/2 MB vs. 1 MB) and is easier to read IMO. No way to modify the stock indicator w/o rooting, so for now I'm using this instead.
CPU Spy by storm717. Very small. Lets you see how much time your CPU spends in each speed, including how much time it sleeps. If your battery is draining quickly this will let you see if it is ever sleeping.
Added 2/29
Word Feud by Berthussen IT. Scrabble-like game.
Added 3/05
AirDroid by SAND Studio. Way better than Keis Air - ability to transfer files, txt messaging, etc via wifi.
Music Volume EQ by K & K Design. Works well, autostarts, includes features other than just a basic EQ.
AndroSensor by Fiv Asim. Displays outputs and current draw from all of the sensors in the Note, including barometer.
Added 3/13
Screen Filter by haxor industry. Much more effective than using Dimmer (listed below). Allows you to dim just as much as you want, or as little as you want. So you can go really dark at let's say 20%, or if you just think the stock auto-brightness is a little too bright, you can permanently apply a 75% filter to dim it down just a little and still let the auto feature do its job. I'm currently trying that. Only problem is as you get to the really dark settings you get a noticable gray coloration to the whole screen - minor and an acceptable trade-off. You can set up multiple home screen shortcuts for multiple settings. Can work along with Dimmer but it is pointless, I just uninstalled Dimmer.
Added 3/23
Screen On by Konstantinos Polychronis. Keeps the screen on for selected apps, or when charging. For instance, Google Maps where you don't want the screen to turn off (and loose your position). This is a tentative recommendation - at first it was flaky (didn't keep the screen on) for some apps but seems to be better after rebooting. I'll report back after a while. After selecting your applications from the list don't forget to enable the application with the checkbox in the upper left corner.
Calendar Snooze by Bitfire-development. Adds lots of snooze options to calendar notifications, more initial notification options and more reminder notification options. I still use Missed Message Flasher for text and Google Talk, but I turned off reminders for calendar in MMF and use Calendar Snooze instead. Mostly because it allows you to set a pattern for vibrate instead of having just one long vibration. I notice it better when it pulses several times.
Added 4/9
Increasing Ring by sashomasho. Increases the volume of your ringer and/or clock alarm, so you can start off completely silent or nearly silent and increase the volume over time. Gives you a chance to grab your phone and answer or reject a call without it blaring at top volume on the first ring. Note that it increases the volume based on your current ring setting so make sure you turn your ring volume below full volume or it will appear that the app isn't working.
Can recommend but don't use anymore
Dimmer (Night Mode) by geekyouup. One-click ability to dim your display as far as it will go. The stock brightness slider will only take you to "30", this takes you to "10". A noticeable difference especially in a dark room. Screen Filter (listed above) works much better and is more versatile so I removed this app.
Can no longer recommend
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Would randomly stop modifying the audio stream even though the app was still listed in the task manager. Also had to re-start after every reboot. Found another equalizer (listed above) which doesn't have either problem. Also I think it sounds better.
SiriusXM Internet Radio by SiriusXM Radio Inc. Doesn't let you force a specific quality, and found an aftermarket solution (listed above) which sounds much better.
Battery Percentage & Temp by Global Developers Adds a battery percentage display as a permanent notification. Battery Indicator (above) is easier to read and the app is half the size of this one.
Please list your own useful apps...
Good list, although this probably belongs in the Galaxy Note Themes and Apps forums.
Some other adds:
Skitch - Evernote add-on that supports sketching. A lot like S Memo, but it has a bit deeper integration with Evernote if you're using that.
iAnnotate Lite - Download from the Samsung App Store to ensure Galaxy Note compatibility. Great tool for marking up PDFs.
Currents - Works great on the Note. The bigger screen really lets you take advantage of the magazine-like layout similar to what you see on a tablet.
I'll add Sketchbook (Mobile) to the list. Pro is still tablet only.
Also, Fruit Ninja and Spirit HD, both of which I've found are great with the S-Pen. The latter locked up and crashed last I played, though; not sure if this will be a recurring issue. EDIT 2/22 - Skip Spirit HD for now. The crashing is consistent, closing the app after two or three levels every time.

Likewise. I use Tweetcaster Pro, a lot better than all of the twitter app out there.
I use Mr. Number for blocking spam / private / blocked numbers. But for some reason the app thinks I'm not in the US, hence why I'm having issues with it at the moment but it's still working regardless.
Streamzoo / MyTubo - for picture editing. Not close to instagram but it does the trick.

Lol.....indeed.
Made a few updates to my list.
For anyone that uses a bluetooth headset and is tired of pocket dials, Proximity Service works well to keep the screen off while in the pocket. It takes a bit to get used to it with regard to how you work with the device, but it is less of of an issue with the Note than it was with my LG Optimus.
That fancy Launcher TSF shell which we all got a preview of earlier in December has finally come out:
http://tinyurl.com/7owwsfo
Any body take the plunge and drop 17 bucks on it yet?
I am considering doing it cause it looks amazing and I'm sure it'd run awesome on our GSIIs.
Belongs in the apps section.
Also I rather not spend $17 for something that might just kill my battery.

WELL ... JUST WANTED TO SAY AFTER 2 UPDATES IT NOW WORKS ON BOTH GSM TAB AND SGS2 BOTH TMO
VERY RESPONSIVE, FAST BUT LACKS SOME OF THE BELLS AND WHISTLES FROM THE VIDEO
Giving it a try. Pretty damn smooth; there are a few features that aren't up and working yet, but it's very impressive. The lack of instructions is causing a few headaches, however.
It can only get better with time. While it doesn't quite have the HD look that SPB Shell has, it seems smoother, and just more useful. SPB looks good, but it's like it never got past demo stage. High hopes for TSF.
EDIT: If you are trying to make it do the "snake" thing from a folder and are having problems, someone on another thread figured out that you have to have more than 7 apps in it to make it work. It's seriously cool once you figure that out. Makes for a nice favorite contacts app.

How much memory does it use?
sent from my SHOstocked sgs2 via tapatalk.....
This is pretty amazing!!! I'm going to wait a little bit longer then buy it! I have to say, if it isn't to much of a batter drain, then I could see this being a pretty nice launcher.
I actually set my "SetCPU" to 800 max, and everything ran SMOOTHLY!! no problems at all! I don't think this uses much more then 200 Mhz, because after fussing around for almost 15 minutes on it, I have CPU Spy saying 200 Mhz was being used for 9 minutes. So . . .
(It might be using the GPU tho, in which case I don't know how to check that.)
Looks interesting. Anyone run into any type of ROM specific issues yet?

Looking at 5.48MB.
Still liking it; it's got lots of potential. I'm really digging the snake function of the folders. Load the folder up with apps, when you want one, just drag it out and tap it. I'm getting a list of tweaks it needs for the developer, like the snake needs to collapse after you use an app in it, stuff like that. Let's see how things go. I still find myself trying to swipe to move to the next screen, but you can't enable that and keep the core function of grabbing and manipulating multiple apps on a screen. I'm going to use this for a few weeks and see if I have the urge to return to a standard launcher.

No ROM specific issues just yet. The video that shows off the launcher seems to be on a phone with MIUI, I think that they would be well suited for each other.
The favorite contacts folder I made works pretty cool; drag the contacts out, tap on one, and it gives you the quick info popup for it. The demo in the video looks different because it's MIUI.
The snake thing only works if you have at least seven items in your folder, and the folder won't hold more than twelve items, so some people might end up with multiple contact folders, like friends, family, work.

I look forward to your review. I'm tempted to pull the trigger, but I've paid for way too many apps that I thought would be cool and useful that I used once and never again.
I got it, but I'm not pleased with it. It's kind of a pain to get to your apps.
Watched the video, read the reviews - even when it's done, it seems like they missed out on an essential factor - it's supposed to be a launcher. And it looks like they layered too much candy on that basic function for it to be usable as a daily driver.

Not sure why you think it's not a launcher. Instead of launching the app drawer like stock/LP/ADW/ect, the app drawer is the first homepage. The MIUI launcher doesn't have a standard app drawer either. And as far as launching the phone/contacts/messaging/ect, they are located on the left side pop-up bar. Granted, it feels different when you start using it, but I'm driving with it just fine. There are some bugs in it that would keep me from keeping it if they don't get addressed, but they seem to be doing updates pretty often and I'm hopeful it will continue to improve.

I didn't say it isn't a launcher, I said that it doesn't seem to function well as a launcher. If it's working for you, I'm glad - and I'll continue to watch and see if they live up to the promises made in the demo. It may well be as you say that I'd just have to get used to it - which I've done before, and will again, when I think the learning is worth it. Although I do like a clean home screen (yes, I know I could do it that way, but that defeats their design).
I've been playing with it and I think it's cool. There is a learning curve and it's not perfect but there are some nice features in it. I stopped using it though as soon as I discovered one feature it lacked that was a must have for me. scrollable widgets. They dont seem to work

Ok, good chance to ask - which scrollable widgets are a must have? I like to keep my home screens clean, and watch battery drain (too) obsessively, so the only widgets I use are Simi Clock (covers clock, weather, and launching apps), 3G Watchdog, and music (PlayerPro and Subsonic). What am I missing?

Well I did say for me they are a must have I use Android Pro widgets, I use about 3 of them(at least scrolling ones) all on their own home screens. I have one that loads twitter and FB updates, another that loads my agenda and one for my text messages. Then a full screen music widget(poweramp) on another screen and a full screen weather widget(fancy widget). I'm not too obsessive over my battery because I ALWAYS either have a spare charger or an extra oem battery (or both) with me

Thanks - I can see the use if I were a more connected person, but I'm not that big on Twitter or Facebook, full screen weather seems excessive (I look out the window , and tapping the weather icon on Simi Clock takes me to Weatherbug), don't text much (and get notifications for that), and my calendar is a tap away... I'm really never that far from a charger, but I like not having to plug in from the time I get up till I dock when I go to bed. If I were out more, I might need it, but I tend to do the home-work-home thing most of the time.
I picked this up. I like it, but some functionality is missing. I'm not talking about things they show in the video that you would have to figure out on your own, I'm talking about buttons that are available to use, but if you try to use it, it says the feature isn't enabled yet. That's kind of annoying. No need to have the button there if you don't have the functionality in.
Battery in my opinion definitely is affected. With my current build below, I was getting about 1% loss per hour. With this launcher it's approaching close to 3% per hour. I don't know why as it's not like my wakelocks are increasing.
I realize everyone has different preferences, and choices in apps, but these are the ones I prefer. This isn't a complete list, either, but just what I feel is important enough to put on this list before I go to bed.
Customization
GO SMS Pro - If I'm not going to use the stock HTC messaging app, this is the one I'd use.
Swiftkey 3 Keyboard - If I was going to use a non-HTC keyboard, this is the one I'd use.
Ultimate Rotation Control - If you want the homescreens or any other app to be able to rotate or stop rotating, this is the app to handle that. It doesn't even require root! (thanks to junkmail9)
Productivity
ColorNote - Keep notes organized by color, which can be backed up in the cloud or to the SD card.
Gas Buddy - Find the cheapest gas near you.
Utilities
AirDroid - Wirelessly manage your files and apps from your computer's browser.
DICE Player - Plays just about any video you can throw at it.
Flashlight - Stock HTC flashlight that wasn't included in our phone for whatever reason. (thanks to downsouthballa) (ATTACHED)
Google Chrome - Good browser, but still has some bugs.
GPS Test - Find out how long it takes for your GPS to lock onto satellites.
HTC Calibrate - Ensure your screen is calibrated properly. (thanks to Andybones) (ATTACHED)
RealCalc Plus - Great calculator for just about any use; much better than our broken stock calculator.
Root Explorer - Even without root, this is still hands-down the best on-device file browser I have encountered.
WiFi Analyzer - Discover the best wireless channel for your router to use.
Games
Dead Trigger - Fun zombie game. Play it!
Widgets
Beautiful Widgets - Some interesting widgets, if you like that stuff.
HD Widgets - More interesting widgets, slightly cheaper.
Very nice list, IceDragon59. Here's my list;
Customization
Swype Beta - I've tried several swyping keyboards, and I like this one best. You do need to sign up for the beta, but it works well. However, the built-in HTC voice to text is vastly superior.
Ultimate Rotation Control - Can selectively choose which programs to force, including just the homescreen.
Productivity
DropBox - Was originally hesitant to use, but it makes moving files/pictures from phone to work computer so much easier and faster than emailing each one, or plugging in a USB cable
Business Calendar - Much better calendar than the built-in. The widget is great for seeing what's coming up at a glance.
Utilities
SMS Backup and Restore - Had a problem with OG Dinc randomly losing text messages. This automatically backs them up. Free add-on will also upload to DropBox automatically as well.
AutoSave MMS - Automatically saves any picture sent via text to a location you specify on your SD Card.
RealCalc Plus - I know IceDragon59 already listed this one, but it's worth repeating. This is a great calculator.
ES File Explorer File Manager - Root Explorer was my only choice while rooted, but ES File Explorer also supports FTP, Dropbox and other online storage solutions.
LTE OnOFF - Sure it says "Thunderbolt" in the name, but it works fine on the Dinc4g. Allows you to force radio modes, depending on your need. It also helps to immediately get back to 4G LTE when your radio drops to 3G or 1X and you know you're in a 4G area.
My Coffee Card Pro - If you're a Starbucks regular, this is better than the official app.
Games
Very subjective area. Games come and go quickly on my phone. About the only constant is Pitch .
Widgets
Battery Widget - Because I miss my circle battery indicator cooked up in the Kitchen...
Besides Business Calendar listed above, all of the other widgets I use are the built-in HTC widgets.

I have an LTE widget I was given to by someone, it's not sized for our phone though , it goes from LTE to 3g mode, (u can set it to w.e, like say LTE to GSM mode)
if anyone knows any m10 stuff and wants to try and re-size this for us that would be great!
it works 100% fine its just too big, and m10 is beyond my knowledge.
here's what the widget looks like

Where can i get that widget? I'd like to try it out, even if it is gigantic.
TIA
P.S. You were at 40% battery? I thought this device couldn't fall below 80! jk, jk

If you are a network administrator, try Fing
also, TeamViewer is great for remote computer control.
do you have any issues with fing constantly running in the backround? a lot of later reviews are complaining about that...
honestly i haven't paid much attention, I'll check it out today and see what happens
i see a couple of you are using the ultimate rotation tool... any issues with it on your phone? i installed it about a week ago and have had to do 3 battery pulls since due to the screen being unresponsive. it's always happened when i receive a text or phone call (the screen wakes up to tell me i have a call or text but i can't do anything). the power button will turn the screen on and off but that is absolutely it. i have to pull the battery to force it to reboot and recover...
EDIT - just to followup, i've removed this app from my phone and things are back to normal. so i'm 99% sure this app was the cause. i really liked what it could do - but it's not worth the bugs.

I actually only used it for a day and didn't care for it, but several people from the community were interested in it, so I posted it in my recommended apps. I didn't have any issues with it in the day that I used it, though.
It caused mine to be less sensitive, sometimes unresponsive to motion, the g sensor calibration tool didn't fix it either, but after uninstalling it and a reboot. Rotate worked fine. I miss Cyanogenmod.

I haven't noticed any issues with the app, but I have the global setting on "auto" with only HTC Sense set to "forced auto", and one app set to forced landscape.

You should give these two apps a try.
Hacker's Keyboard.
Price: Free, also available at the F-Droid Repository.
No matter what keyboard I try I keep coming back to this one, it has everything I wanted. Has been around for a while too.
It's a keyboard with the basic aosp gingerbread keyboard, and a full computer like qwerty keyboard. The arrow buttons always being their is convenient too. There are themes with this app, Examples Gingerbread and, ICS.
JuiceDefender:
Price: Free with limited functionality, $1.99 for plus, $4.99 for ultimate
Old, but still more efficient than other power saving apps I tried, and still works.
Good on 4G LTE Phones like this, also good on apps that use the internet only for advertisements because it has app control settings. It's harder to control power saving, without root, and there's barely any control on stock Allows you to turn off the data automatically when screen is off (I prefer this, with custom app settings). There 5 presets, Balanced, aggressive, extreme, advanced, I prefer customize.
Some settings like CPU Frequency Scaling require root though.
