Question about Flashing - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey Everyone,
I am brand new to Android and cannot thank these forums enough already on all the help I have had already in the one week I have been here. I hope one day I will be fluent enough to help out people as much as I have been helped.
My quick questions is, I am rooted and everything else is stock still. I have backed up on TWRP and Titanium. Let's say I want to try and flash a custom ROM. If i decide I want to go back to this untouched but rooted state, do I just have to run the backup from TWRP? Or is there a rom I have to flash to get back to the state I am in now?
Any help or clarification would be great. Thanks!

Correct. You would wipe the device and then restore your backup

[Q] Returning to stock?

Howdy Folks,
If [when] I go with one of the "ROM's" (i.e. GreyBlur/GladiAtrix/GingerBlur) if I should desire to go back to the phone's stock ROM how would I go about doing so? Is that just a matter of a factory reset, or do I need to take another approach?
I'm also assuming I would need to do so to update the phone?
Thanks for the help!

Thank you!! By the way, what in the world does SBF stand for?
System boot file?
So back on this topic, can't I just recover back to stock by going into recovery mode (a la http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966648)? Or would one of these ROM's modify the files that such a recovery mode uses and therefore make it not an option?
EDIT: and now I've come across this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038063&highlight=cwm
So can I somehow backup a copy of my phone's OS to restore to? That would be ideal.
I'm not familiar at all with this clockworkmod thing. Sorry I know these are probably stupid questions but everyone has to learn for the first time at some point. Thanks folks for the help.
Sorry for the bump but I'm trying to get this answered. This is the last thing I wanted to find out before I root / install a ROM.

n00b requesting help

If there is a thread for this, I apologize in advance..I've just recently switched from iPhone 4 and was very familiar w/ jailbreaking..but this rooting is all brand new too me.
I'm kinda confused..how does rooting work? Do you complete the root process and then choose which "rom" you would like to use? Or is each rom a different process? From the research I've done so far I think I'm interested in the viperROM..mainly because of the battery life increase...battery life has been my biggest beef since switching.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again, if there is a thread for n00bs already..I apologize in advance mods.
Thanks!
For the most part, every rom is flashed the same way. Thru the recovery menu.

And yes. You root first and then download and flash what rom you want.

That thread will help give you a little info on it.
Basically you first need to S-off your device, and then root it afterwards. Once you get S-off (i suggest using revolutionary), you will then flash a custom recovery image. Once you have S-off and recovery installed, you can then flash whatever rom you'd like, using the the custom recovery to do so. Pretty much any custom rom that you flash will already be rooted with super user access, so you'll be good to go once you flash the rom.
The process to flashing all roms is the same. Basically, create a nandroid backup of your current working setup, then perform a full wipe, and flash your new rom. In addition to creating a nandroid backup prior to wiping, be sure your contacts are saved or synced to google, and use titanium backup or something to backup any apps you want to keep.
You'll pick it all up in no time. Soon you'll be flashing roms day and night like a maniac.
k, i followed a link (wont let me post cuz i dont have 8 posts)
and i have superuser now
now..where can i find roms to install?
you were right..already installing my second rom
i had viperROM but realized i had an older version of it (1.2.1) and now im wiping clean and installing 1.3
thanks!

[Q] Need help with fixing cwm back up. md5 mismatch

So I originally created a back up in cwm after I unlocked bootloader and rooted and flashed recovery. The other day I wanted to restore to the factory rooted Rom that I had backed up and it gave me the good ole me5 mismatch . What do I do to fix it?
This method always seems to get the job done for me no matter what phone I have.

Hey thanks a lot . I been really busy so sorry I haven't replied . just read your response now . I ended up just deleting my back up . I created another back up of a stable stock ROM deodexed rooted slightly debloated . I realized after that having my back up didn't really matter Cuz I'll never return to stock cuz I have a flashing addiction lol

A few questions before I root

Hello again all, I just have a few questions about rooting my sprint gn2 before i get started. I have found several instructional guides through xda (thanks to all that post them would be lost without ya!) however i am concerned because i am running the new updated version that some of these methods may cause me some issues. I suppose my question is most of these guides were made quite some time ago, and this update has only been around a few months now, is it safe to follow for example this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9zF6x1MURM&hd=1&list=SPwCVKEYxr_z7FBQYT32dbYw_kdSJmSDH2Do I need to revert back to a prior update somehow? I have searched for a few hours now and there does not seem to be much information on rooting the device after the latest update. Looking forward to running custom roms thanks for the help.
PS if there is anything you think i should know before starting feel free to chime in i will definitely send a thanks your way!
PSS I see that 4.3 locks down the bootloader completely.... this is bull****...... Anyone know whether the phone i get through insurance when i "break" my phone would come loaded with 4.3 as well?

You should check the sprint forums and maybe this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591523.
Edit: I'm not sure all about kingo so I can't give any suggestions.
Thank you, I had read about kingoroot and am sure that is the route i will be taking (as it is my only choice) however would i still be able to backup using twrp? will i still be able to flash custom roms? these are really the only two things i care for doing.. and running root only apps like titanium backup but that is a given. Thanked for your help btw.
Cheers

That I'm not sure. You would no longer have unlocked bootloader and I always thought the two ways to have custom recovery were if bootloader was unlocked or via a safestrap method. You would have root so I'd check and see if recoveries exist for sprint note ii after this root method of 4.3
I believe you would be unable to flash a new rom/kernel as they require a custom recovery to do so, and with out a unlocked boot loader you wouldn't be able to get a custom recovery.

+1... go to the Sprint forum for the best answer. Each carrier's version on the phone is slightly different.

[Q] Installed Gapps on system partition - problem?

Hi. I am new to safestrapping and i rushed into it. Instead of creating a rom slot before flashing gapps, i just backed up the stock slot and flashed gapps onto it. Everything works fine of course, but:
1. can i just restore the backed up data for the slot to get back to stock?
2. should i restore and flash onto a new slot to be safe if possible?
Thanks in advance.

Why not post in the gapps or safestrap thread? Those get replies all the time. I get my questions answered within a few hours normally. This entire help section of the forums gets almost no traffic, because everyone posts their problems in whatever tutorial thread they are using to update their kindles.
I have been coming to the hdx forums for months now, and I only ever check HDX General, and HDX Android Development. This is my first time in the help section.
