Got my XTZ on Monday and I've had 3 reboots since then (possibly related to app updates?). I've installed a lot of apps but I haven't rooted or done anything to the system. Is anybody else experiencing this? At first I thought it's probably just a bug that will be ironed out in a software update but now I'm starting to worry it's a hardware issue.
Should I be contacting Sony and requesting an exchange?
I haven't experienced any

I have had two while using titanium backup to restore, and one while placing an app in the system app folder with root explorer.
It's been stable since then. Guess it is a software bug.

Have owned the Photon from the start but I keep loosing programs on a random basis. I am running the latest software, rooted (torpedo), std bootloader and lose root and multiple programs on the unit. Tried storing programs on SD then main memory but the problem keeps occurring. Most times program icons are still there but will not activate. Some widgets stay while others are gone as well. When I click on application is shows the programs are installed but are not functional. I have had to do three factory resets over the past few months then using Titanium to restore. Has anyone else had or read about anyone else having this issue?

Check this thread. Sounds similar to your issue: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/60867?tstart=0
Might be a fix somewhere in that thread for you.

Do you have AVG antivirus installed? If you are then you need to remove it. I lost root due to having AVG installed, my programs are there but unable to run. I removed the AVG , re-root and re-installed super user. Everything then work fine.
Hope this help
Please install aLogCat. The next time you try and open up an app that subsequently fails, go to aLogCat, save your logs to a file, and review what errors were thrown by the system. You can post the logs here for further help deciphering them.
Worst case scenario is that your internal Flash storage is going belly up and you'll need to have the phone replaced -> aLogCat logs will help you prove that.
No AVG installed.
Thank you I will install it. What I did do that seems to be working is when doing a factory reset I neglected to wipe my Dalvik area. So I did a wipe three times and performed a re install using Titanium backup as all seems to be working for the time being.
Sounds good. I'm glad you're working fine.

I have an issue with the X10S ROM by championswimmer when restarting. I've synced my Google account with my phone before, but after restarting the phone sometimes, all my synced data is wiped (calendar, contacts, etc.) and only the stuff I've not backed up (e.g. new messages and contacts) gets saved, everything else from Google and Facebook accounts are wiped. It's not a massive issue, just a bit irritating having to resync everything every once in a while, but I was just wondering if anyone else has seen similar issues with this ROM or if mine's just a unique case, and if someone knows a fix for it.
Otherwise, this is a brilliant ROM and I love it, especially seeing how I'm not in the right financial situation to be able to afford the Xperia S, but I can still experience it on my X10. Thanks in advance
Maybe try fresh install?

Backup the ROM with xRecovery and do a fresh install. I have restarting issues with mine too and fresh install didnt help so Im going to get it repaired.
Maybe go back to stock CPU freq if overclocked.
It may be the motherboard if everything above fails.

I wouldnt back up as it is defected and it will make copy of defect. Just start agaim (go back to stock to b sure) and go from root right through to fresh install.

Since the ICS upgrade my Razr Maxx has been restarting after updating apps. This usually happens if more than one app is updated.
I've done a factory reset and still having the issue. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Funny...I just posted a very similar thread the other day about a similar issue happening with my regular RAZR:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903444
At least I know I am not the only one seeing this...wish I could figure out why this happens.
biochemnick,
Out of curiosity, do you by chance use any sort of folder application (to put apps into folders) or other app that would run after an install occurs?
Hello XDA Community, I have come to turn to you looking for a little bit of light to bed shed on my first forray into real mobile technology and learning to root.
I recently was ably to root my Note 3 (n900a - mj5) with Kingo, and it was incredibly easy! I have this community to thank for helping me find that information. After doing a basic root ( no flashing or anything) I went ahead and started to remove all of the bloatware on my device. I followed some basic guides and the spreadsheet for Bloatware that is floating around, and I can also reverse any particular uninstall if I need to. Everything seems to function fine, but what I have noticed since rooting my phone (which I basically did right away, so I have no real comparison as to how it should function normally) was that I often get a notification "Unfortunately, X program has stopped working" with various programs. It initially started while I was doing the first uninstalls with Advanced Uninstall Expert. I would queue up a number of programs to uninstall, and after a couple would go it would inevitably give me the aforementioned notification. It doesn't cause many serious problems, but it is certainly disconcerting on a new device to see it so much.
So to my main question, does this seem like something I may have caused with maybe a small uninstall of a system program (even though it happened before I had uninstalled more than a couple of simple obvious apps) or is this maybe an instability with the phone / OS? Should I unroot and factory reset, then use it normally to see if this still persists? I just picked the phone up on Friday and so I am within my 14 day period, and I still have 0x0 so I could do that if this seems like a problem with the device. I am just very inexperienced in regards to this field and want to reference any other sources I can.
Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer regarding this problem, I look forward to seeing any responses you have for me.
Sounds like you are just freezing apps and not deleting them? How are you going about freezing them? Is it Knox security warnings by chance? Did install recovery and make a backup? I would unfreeze all apps if you have in fact just been freezing them so you are stock other than root and try it out for a day. If it's still happening you may need to Odin back to stock and see if that helps.

Thank you so much for the reply.I usually just press the home button to exit and then I will use the app manager to end the active processes. I recently found the way to clear apps from memory and I'm keeping an eye on it now. The only weird thing is I seem to be running about a constant. .9 gigs in my ram when only swift key is running even after clearing my ram so I'm trying to figure out what that's all about. Anyways I will most likely Odin to stock and take a slower approach to trying things out. Thank you once again for the information.

Nothing wrong with .9 gigs ram. On odex blue I usually sit around 1.4 to 1.6 gigs. Not sure what your looking to get out of it but your not going to see better running touch wiz. There are a few debloated roms you may want to try rather than trying to accomplish it yourself.

I have 2 Note 3's in our household rooted with Kingo and they don't have such problems. Sounds to me like you've frozen or uninstalled some programs that are causing the unstableness. I've been too enthusiastic before in the past freezing and deleting bloatware & other system apps and experienced similar issues as yours.
These days, I keep the freezing and deleting to a minimum.
Hi,
My s5 has been randomly rebooting. Sometimes, it has happening when I am on the call, or in the mid night. Is any one has the same issue? Is the phone defective or hardware problem? My phone is never rooted.

I have been having the same issue. I have had the phone since release and haven't had any problem, until about a month ago. It has rebooted a few times randomly. I am completely stock non-rooted.
I got one time today when I opened the YouTube app. I uninstall the update for the YouTube, and see what is going on
So I've noticed this happening for a few weeks now. Thought something was wrong with the phone and did a warranty replacement. New phone (not referb) does the same thing, just not as often. I think maybe it's an app running in the background now that had a bad update. I'm in the process of removing apps to see if it still happens.

It has happened last mid night again. In today moring, I found my phone restart one time, because I saw the popup notice for reminding the back cover that means the phone restart already. Please tell us what happen after you remove the apps. I think it is the software problem rather than the hardware problem. I don't want to get replacement phone because it is refurbished phone.

Well I'm still trying to determine which app is causing it. For all I know, it could be the firmware T-mo pushed out prior to the latest one. T-mo says they haven't had reports on this issue so I don't want to blame the FW right off the bat. I have ruled out about 70% of my apps and right now have about 5 uninstalled and phone hasn't restarted in 3 days. Below is are the apps I have yet to try and the ones currently removed.
Current Removed:
Code:
'Disable Increasing Ring'
'netflix'
'uber'
'hbo go'
'battery widget'
'2x rdp client'
'pandora'
Yet to try:
Code:
Google Maps
Facebook
Chrome
chromecast
hangouts
tinder
lookout security
Touchpal Keyboard
Reuters
Beep'nGo
Might help if you let me know which ones you have in common above. FYI, I also tried removing my sd card like I saw in a few forums. Also, Tmobile says they don't give you referb phones. They give new phones that were returned to the store within a few days. So openbox, mine looked perfect.

I just do some research online. Many articles are talking about that the android 4.4.2 has randomly reboot bug. I think this the common bug for the 4.4.2. Hopefully, the 5.0 is rolling out for international version. I think t-mobile will update the s5 to 5.0 soon.
Its the 4.4.2 firmware. Its because of all the apps updating to the new lollipop 5.0 but where still on kit Kat. Remember now these apps are set to run on art now so i believe there conflict between the dalvik thats the norm. On 4.4.2. I noticed if i run my SM-G900T 4.4.2 in art mode the rebooting stops. So at the end of the day this means when 5.0 is released to our S5 the reboots should stop. If your bothered by the reboots just run the 4.4.2 in art mode. Good day☺

I just turn off the VoLTE, and the phone runs for 10 days without any reboots. Do you think it is the problem of the VoLTE?

Could be.? I'm just making an educated guess that it's the fact that when our apps like YouTube, Gmail ,ect.. updated it seems that's when my reboots started. Volte could be a cause to. Your guess is as good as mine. But I truly believe it's the fact that the updated app where modified to art and 4.4.2 is dalvik. ?? I'm sure when the 5 update comes this will be resolved ☺

1.) Go into Settings, and About Device. Where it says: Build number press on this over and over again until it gives you the Toast message: Developer Options Turned On (something to that effect).
2.) Go back into Settings, and just below Security and above About device, you will see Developer options. Open this.
3.) 4th Item down is: Select runtime system. It should say: Use Dalvik. Change this option to: Use ART. It should work for a little bit, then Reboot your phone.
4.) All done!
Note: If you plan to Root your phone, and use Xposed, it is NOT compatible with ART runtime. If you plan to stay unrooted, or not use Xposed if you do root, then you are fine. You can always switch back if you decide to do this.
