[Q] SGS2 Black Screen Problem! Help! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody!
First of all, I apologize for any Spelling mistakes in my post, but I'm dutch, so English isn't my first language.
Ok. So, I have a great problem with my phone.
When I started it up this morning, the screen stayed black the whole time. I heard the boot sound, but no screen. Then when you need to unlock your screen, I heard that sound too. Funny thing is, that the screen responds to my touches, because when I think I'm touching my keyboard, my phone vibrates and gives me that keyboard sound. I tried the volume buttons working. I tried to get the device in recovery mode, still a black screen. Even in download mode, I get a black screen. When I plug it in to my computer, it shows up, but still black screen.
I don't know what to do anymore. Can any one help me

Well, I bought it from a man second-handed yesterday. The man said he got it from a friend and that he tried every button combination, but it didn't work. He didn't tell me it was dropped or something. But what I noticed, was that when there is full sunshine on the screen, there seems to be some sort of crack underneath the glass. I double checked it, but the man didn't know what it was.
I think the phone is about 2 years old, but I'm not sure. The strangest thing of all is that today I managed to get the music player started. I keep getting the feeling that the digitizer isn't broken, because it responds to my touches and swipes. But, if it isn't the digitizer, and the glass isn't broken, what could it be?
P.S. Thank you all to help me out here! I really appreciate it!

Thanks guys, but it seems that I have to replace the screen then. Since it was second-handed and the man told me it didn't work, I can't get a refund. I will look if it's worth to pay $120 for screen replacement, because in Holland it is not that cheap. Thank you all guys!

Could it be a defect mobo? Everything is working exept the screen.
Btw, I did take it back.. But the man said to me it was a not working phone, so there is no chance of refund for me. I'm so sorry to waste your time with my troubles, guys..

Thanks man. I really appreciate your help!

Well, it seems like I see some sort of the problem.
Yesterday, I was in my bed checkin' the screen while something drew my attention. The screen went on and there were pixelated gray spots, so that you could see difference between the screen off and on. I personally think this was the lcd backlight that I saw, but it was a notification for me that this screen is working.
Could it be a GPU-like defect, or is it something else? I don't know what to do anymore. I am trying to find a solution, by making a scrapbook of what couldn't be the problem of my black screen.
BTW I'm sorry that I still haven't found the problem. I know a lot of people are experiencing this problem, but they all didn't found the solution..
-GameShine

I'm looking for the same solution you are! Screen went from working perfectly to black, with the rest of the phone and digitizer working just fine in 15 minutes. The connectors and ribbons look fine, and nothing traumatic happened to the lcd, so I'm skeptical of the lcd just dying suddenly. I believe there's something else causing the problem, I just hope I'm right and can figure it out.

I have another working S2 that I plugged the non working screen into. Oddly, it showed the Samsung logo on boot up, then no more. So the screen has the ability to show images, but then goes black for some reason.

bottom buttons not responding? fix?

hey guys, im trying to get a vibrant and found this guy who has a mint condition vibrant but the touch sensitive buttons dont work, the screen is perfectly working but the bottom buttons wont register the touch... some time they do but most of the time they dont... there is no water damage and he says that the phone has not been dropped so, wtf happened here? any software related thing going on here?
ill buy it if there is any way to fix it, maybe some of you have experienced this issue and have an answer?? thanks and please give me some advice
I've returned 2 vibrates because of the home button being haywire. From everything I've heard also, I'd advise you not to get the phone from this guy, its a hardware malfunction.

shyt man i have the same issue on mahh vibrant....ive tryy everythinq i cann and i couldnt get it working....
Someone it depends on the rom yiu install too. I had that problem when I bought mine from a guy at craigslist.. But when I installed axura or other rom, the home button worked flawlessly. I don't totaly agree that its "hardware issue" I think its on the software "roms"

screen issue

Hey everyone. i got a sgs2 3 hours ago and ive noticed this funny bit in the top right section of the screen, should i take back to the shop tomorrow. damned it! didnt show in screen shots........ what it is is a sort of scribble pattern, about an inch squared in size...... it looks to be under the glass but it has no effect to the phone at all.
If it doesn't show in screenshots then it's definitely physical. If you've literally only just got it then I'd take it straight back to the shop and get a replacement.
Yeah thats what i rekon... Its for certain not on the outside of the screen thats for sure! Jeez it was a replacement for my faulty sgs1! Hope they replace it

Good luck and I'm sure they will replace it for you.
yeah they are replacing it onmonday, cant get permission until then from samsung but shop staff said for sure there was a fault and took a pic, funny thing is is that its kinda fading

Is this fixable? Broken atrix :(

Hard to explain in text, here is a video:

Please advise?
it should be fixable, depending on if the screen setup is one assembly, then its going to cost you, im pretty sure its the digitizer that you cracked or damaged, i will look and see what i can find for you
Are you running any ROMS? If so, try flashing a new one. If you are just at stock phone, try flashing the stock firmware over from the Motorola website. All directions are there and firmwares.
Also are you rooted or/and have an unlocked bootloader.
I am hoping it's a software glitch but it's probably a hardware issue.

I don't see any cracks, could be sub surface maybe? I think digitizers are like 50 bucks.
One guy told me digitizers either work or they don't, there is no half working. Is that not true?
Edit: just saw your post Voelker, yes I am running Alien through RomRacer's CWM.
I wish I could get to my TiBu and MyBackup apps
Your in luck, this is what you need, http://www.ebay.com/itm/AT-T-Motoro...ultDomain_0&hash=item4aaa0e3c28#ht_3026wt_907
can you repair it yourself is the wuestion.
Damn thats crucial. I know this is prob not the most helpful idea but I guess worth a try.. Have you downloaded the Touchscreen Booster app to see if it makes a difference? You can have it pushed to your phone via the Android Market on a computer, just select the Atrix and your phone should download it automatically. The dropdown box you need to change is right about where your top row of keys is so maybe just maybe.. Try the "super optimized" setting. Sorry I cant be more help, hope you get it resolved.
you are wrong, digitizers can do what yours is doing, ive had it happen a few times to my past iphones, i posted a link for you that should fix it

I think I can. I have taken apart phones before and I've seen several helpful threads on the subject. I guess I'll go ahead and order one, I don't think a ROM flash will work (but I guess since it's free I'll go ahead and try it first)

Guys, do you know if I use RomRacer's backup utility, is it a complete 100% backup? Meaning if I flash a ROM to it, and it doesn't fix, can I use the backup to go back to the way it was before the install?

That's what I figured. The guy sounds old (no offense to you older guys) but sometimes older guys like to rip stuff apart without taking the time to really watch what you're doing.
I assume superglue will work fine to put the pieces back together?

that would work, but i wouldnt recoment it. if you read the comments they will give you good tips too im only 19 and ive torn apart blackberys and every version of the iphone(ive owned 8 total) i dont have issues with electornics or little parts, but you are right for (no offece) older people, or elders, they tend to lets say... slip or something and screw it up, you could even record yourself and watch it after.

for the glue, use a blow drier, ir buy some adhesive superglue i think is a no no because it fuses the 2 things together, that could screw stuff up. just my 2 cents

Welp, it's fixed, aside from a few qualms. One, the prox sensor doesn't work. Two, I didn't clean off the old adhesive stuff well enough and the screen is slightly bulged out. Not a big deal but it is what it is.
Overall, I kind of wish I would have just spent the 20 bucks extra and claimed insurance on it. Oh well. I'll probably do it sometime after tax season next year when I have some money to waste on it. For now, it'll do.

[Q] Problem in i9300 screen?

Hello, i just bought my i9300 a few weeks ago. All seemed normal when i noticed that when i was viewing a gray screen ( e.g. a game loading ) or anything that wasnt completely black, there were some spots in my screen. I thought at first that it was some graphics or glitch from the game, but then tried loading another game with a similar gray screen and they were still there. They arent scratches or anything like that ,it seems that its from inside the digitalizer. I dont know if i can even put a photo of that, because its not easily visible. My phone obviously has its warrany voided due to some rooting. If i flash the stock firmware, unroot it and run triangleaway, do you think i would be able to swap it for a brand new?
Hey mate, I have the exact same problem I keep thinking it's my eyes or something but I guess if your seeing it as well maybe its a problem with the device?
Do you also see the screen sort of flickering at certain points?
Well documented problem with many handsets..

How much of it isn't working? And is it just unresponsive or is the display out as well?

So is it just a strip of the screen?
If you really really wanna be able to get it unlocked, Download the correct version of clockwork mod for our phone one that's not touch, has to use the volume rockers and fresh install the rom, Or as a matter of fact, Just boot into whatever recovery you have and clear data/factoryreset, that'll get rid of your lock pin
Hello from me too!
I have a strip on my touch screen that doesn't work. It's right where the Search button and Install on Play Store is and Clear on the Phone notifications, too.
It had the stock rom, I have replaced the screen with the digitizer when it fell down. It worked after that. I had to unscrew the phone one more time because my LCD was touching the screen and the phone had gone mad. After that, and a couple of days later, I noticed that the strip didn't work anymore. Today I finally flashed a new rom (King Cobra 3d) and nothing's changed so I figured it might be a hardware problem...
What's your opinion?
Thank you!

I've replaced my digitizer twice myself. I got a cheaper one the first time, and figure that's what I get for trying to go on the cheap. (I was out of warranty). Sorry to say it but it could be that again.

I think I don't have a warranty because I've changed it myself. It's my fault...
I think I'll buy a new one... I unscrewed it a while ago so I could see if sth had been misplaced or if the digitizer had scratches or sth like that.
I saw that the ribbon's top had been ripped off right where it bends on top of the LCD... Don't know if that's the problem...
p.s. I live in Greece. My carrier is Cosmote. We don't have Sprint here...
Yep, if the ribbon cable is ripped, that would be your problem. Don't go too cheap on your replacement. Good luck!

The last one I got from Amazon is the one I'm using now (about a month old), and spent $20 US on it, which was NOT the cheapest of them. Not knowing the exchange rate right off hand, would venture to say the one you're speaking of is not a "cheap" one. So go for it. Just take your time replacing it and be careful with ALL the ribbon cables. Good luck!
