a question for the developers??? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Can we replace the new wifi modules in the ICS or JB with the old wifi modules from Gingerbread to solve the wifi problem in ICS 4.0.4 and JB 4.1 and up where the old modules can work with all country codes and all sim cards.
My device is :
Xperia mini pro ( sk17i )
rom: zellycream
bootloader: unlocked

No, this will not work. And if I am not mistaken, GB modules are totally different than the ones in ICS/JB.
Also, WiFi modules are kernel-relevant, that means it would also require kernel level work.

Either you go back to GB or use a stable 2.x kernel instead of 3.x kernel.

Whats the problem with the wifi?? The speed??

Base Band Patch for Gingerbread roms

Use it when your baseband is 54+ and want to try out J's cm7 rom or rdannar's GB Miui rom or Arc rom.
Tested working on J016 and J017 and rdannar's GB Miui - for stock kernel only.
Do it at your own risk and it's not supported by J
Patch it with cm7bb54.zip
Restore back the original with cm7bb52.zip (if you decide to change base band)
This patch won't solve any problem that may come with the rom (such as wlod)
Note: This patch won't work on Trip's GB Miui
pls hit Thanks button if it helps you
I want to make sure I got this all correct:
1. If on bb.54+, flash cm7bb54.zip to patch/use cm7
2. If previously flashed to bb.52, flash cm7bb52.zip to go back to bb.54+
Would I have to flash each zip file every time I want to go back and forth between each rom?
Thanks cobrato!
1.correct
2. only if you decide to flash bb52 again(for any reason) and still want to use cm7 flash cm7bb52.zip
no. if you are flashing a new rom which requires bb54 and you are on bb54 then no need to flash this zip.
Can use this patch for bb.55 ?
I finally gave in and left FreeX10 to test out CM7.
It feels pretty stable but there's some issues I sense still need tweaking and I'll post after I'm done here.
QQ; what improvements have you sensed using .54 over .52, both in general and with CM7?
Personally i don't think there are any improvements. But some people just want a higher number. In fact some of the functions in .54 are broken like auto-time settings.

Not correct.....
If you are in north america .49/.52 causes many issues, especially when it comes to dropped calls , failed text messages and slow 3g+ speeds.
On .55 the failed text issue is fixed completely, I get much better call signal and faster 3g+.

Not without the new kernel, the only way it is possible is if the bootloader gets unlocked

Your usb port, or usb cable?
You can't install the kernel needed for GB without flashtool.
So if your usb port is broken, maybe look on ebay for spare parts to fix it.
If your usb cable is broken, buy a new one.
Good luck
sorry but how do i apply this patch? i'm on BB54 with a broken usb connector
i guess this might be (all steps via xrecovery)
1.- install patch
2.- install 2.3.3 rom (any rom available)
3.- install custom kernel (zKernel might be)
is this correct?
thanks in advance

[Q] Unlocked bootloader wi-fi error

I'm currently running stock 2.3.3 from SE (through Rogers in Canada) with baseband 2.1.71 (rooted since it was released)
I planned on installing CM7 on my phone so I decided to unlock my bootloader so that it is ready when I eventually do so. I used FlashTool 0.6.7.0 to unlock it and it ran without any problems.
However I'm unable to turn Wi-Fi on. It only says "Error" and I'm not too sure what's wrong. I tried searching for answers but others with same issues were using custom ROMs while I'm still on stock.
Anyone know what I can do to fix this? If you're missing any information to be able to help me, please let me know and I will post them. (I have about a week to fix this as I'll be leaving on vacation and I'll need wifi working)
Thanks!
If you have really opened bootloader, for such device special kernels are necessary (stock or custom). Flash by FlashTool one of such ftf-kernels, then install with utility xRecovery the module wi-fi for this kernel.
The author of each ROM recommends, what kernels to use and gives the link on downloading.
just look for the kernel tht is meant for unlocked bootloader tht should work with stock rom n then flash kernel via flashtool n wifi modules file through xrecovery ur wifi will work
Which kernel u using? U prob need the relevant WiFi modules.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot tonight. I noticed it mentioned to install a custom kernel but seeing how everything else was fine I skipped that step. (ooops )
I had that "error" on my stock with zKernel.I dont know cause, but i fix it with reinstall zKernel..Try with zKernel for stock..

Well, installed FXP105 and everything seems to be buttery smooth. Wifi is working now (yay!), but now camera is not working. Also tried with Vignette and no go.
Gonna search around a bit.
Thats ICS man, camera dont working and some other stuff eather. Its stable but its not for everyday use.

It's not ICS... I installed CM7.2. Found out FXP105 was missing a lib file for camera so I'll fix it later.
Thanks for all your help guys
FXP105 is 9.0 (ICS),thats FXP54 i think.

Hi. I haven't tested it with CM7 but MIUI had the same problem, so try to flash wifi fix and then UnlockedBL.zip . And also try other kernels

Gingerbread kernel on ICS

Maybe a stupid question but i have my reasons to ask this
Is it posible to run old Gingerbread kernel(2.6.x.x) on ICS based ROM's simply by flashing zImage (or whole boot.img) without recompiling kernel
Im guessing not but i need to ask
I'm pretty sure it wont work cuz completely different android versions so u would have to swap out the modules and pretty much have to build from source codes and a lot of work to get it running but by then its not gb anymore and I think u may have though there might be a possibility of getting oc from a gb kernel to ics but it won't work like that
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Its not because of OC its because of USB OTG
OTG works with Leedroid kernel but i need ICS because of some app that runs only on ics
I guess i will have to wait for someone to add this to ics kernel

[Q] WiFi on Xperia Mini ICS

Well, actually I'm using a custom rom, based on GB, because I've been having the same problem with EVERY ROM based on ICS (Stock or Custom).
I honestly don't know why does it happen, my problem is... Every time I've tried an ICS-based Rom, my WiFi disconnects itself all the time. It goes out and comes back after a few seconds every time it wants to, and it doesn't matter at all how far or near I am of my router.
I never had that problem with Gingerbread. Is it a problem with DNS, IP or something like that? Can I just use an app to fix that?
At least I would like to know what happens, thanks everybody in advance!

Maybe change your wlan to b/g and not b/g/n, that had solved it for me
Had your bootloader unlocked? What kernel are you using?

eltonpestana: Is it possible to change the baseband in this phone?
mihahn: My WiFi is already in b/g mode /:
gouthamthemostwanted: My bootloader doesn't allow unlocking, so I am using the stock Kernel -.-
If you are using the stock kernel are you sure you flash ics kernel prior flashing the ics Rom?
If you flash ics kernel.sin using flashtool and still experience problems on WiFi then go through the updater-script of the Rom and make sure permissions are set right and this symlink is present
symlink("/data/etc/wifi/wl1271-nvs.bin","/system/etc/firmware/ti-connectivity/wl1271-nvs.bin");
I use rage kernel and removing this symlink from updater-script made my WiFi not to work . I don't know whether will it work with stock ics kernel but it's worth a shot.
Sent from my smultron using xda app-developers app
Ok, I'll be honest with you. I don't know what the updater-script is, and I never tried to flash a kernel because my bootloader is still locked
I think the problem is on your router. Change the channel and mode and also disable the wireless security. See what happen......

To flash the stock Sony kernel you don't need a unlocked bootloader . If you don't flash ics kernel for ics Rom I'm sure it won't work properly. I won't even boot properly in the first place.
Below is the stock ics firmware for st15i

Flash the above mentioned ics firmware using flashtool before flashing any ics Rom.
I hope you know what a flashtool is and how to flash your device using it.

Flash back on gingerbread and see if wifi is working well. If yes, you know it's not related to your router.
It's a known problem on ics by sony that wifi isn't working well, but there's no working fix as far as I know...

Yeah... I know what flashtool is, I have used it too many times. But I never heard about flashing the stock kernel, I thought the kernel was automatically updated when you install the ICS tft. I'll try it anyway.

Actually, as I said, in GB I never had that problem, and I don't know what to do yet.
Maybe this can help...
Here are the updater-script files of the ROM's that I have recently used.
If there's something incompatible with my phone or if there's something I can do with them to fix the problem, I'd be glad to know it
I'll let you know man . I'll go through them . It's 12 in the morning here

Haha it's ok, take your time. Thank you
I just skimmed through both the updater-scripts and I don't find anything wrong there. What ftf file you used for ics? Is it regional customization or world customization?

[Q] Wifi Error

I recently tried to install a new kernel, but it didn't work. The problem was that I had already installed the kernel modules for the new kernel but had flash the stock one. So now the Wifi did work but I had no connection to the cellular network nor could I send text messages or phone anybody.
My solution was just to get the stock modules and paste them into /system/lib/modules and delete the old ones. And well it did work but now my wifi doesn't work. All it says, after about an hour trying to switch on wifi, is: Error
I'm running the stock rom (jb, sense 4+) and the kernel (1.17.401.1)
These are my current modules:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/73wpj9d7uy3fqvt/eKgvhcKmeF
Download Nik3r's stock kernel with embedded modules, elite kernel, or hx0re. All great with multiple purposes.
Hope to have helped.
