ICS for lg optimus one p500 / 509 - Optimus One, P500, V General

Is there a finished stable ICS rom for the lg optimus one? I am not looking for anything overly fancy but i would like to have all features of the phone working. I can deal with offline charging not working and teathering not working (would prefer if they work but not something i use often and there are 3rd party apps that probably fix said issue) Anyone know of such a rom? I have heard hephappy's 9.2.2 is great but i cant seem to find it. Heck its like he up and disapeared from xda-dev.

Ok i finally found hephappy's 9.2.2 I am not sure i should post where i found it since he seems to have tried to wipe all his footprints from xda. I have heard that trebuchet is not the best launcher for these devices because its resource heavy. I know for kernels that they can be flashed right from recovery normally. Is that the same for launchers? If so where should i search to find other launchers to play around with?

Well this is a really nice rom. Combined with ungazed script to allow me to use my ext4 partition as added storage this works out well. I even have offline charging so if i am ever an idiot again and let my phone battery die i dont have to jump through hoops to get it back up and running. Only thing that is semi working that i see is wifi tether seems that turning it of causes a reboot. Not really much of an issue. Also doesnt have the a typical battery drain that seems to be in so many roms now. I can actually run this rom for a couple hours without much battery loss.

There is a dedicated thread for that ...

a dedicated thread for what launchers? i did not see it.

Launchers are installed the same way as any app. You don't flash them unless the developer releases a flashable zip package. Anyway, you can find launchers on the Play Store (just search for launcher) and install it from there. Popular launchers include Nova, Holo launcher, ADW, Launcher Pro, and Go Launcher. There are also specialty launchers like Launcher7, ssLaunchere and Action Launcher, which stray from the traditional Android launcher design (ie. they don't use the typical desktop, dock, app drawer setup most launchers use). Just try them out and see what suits you best.

Sorry for the confusion. Originally i was looking for 9.2.2 and trust me its not easy to find. The "dedicated" thread for cm9 and 10 is dead and the link in it goes to a domain that is for sale. Not sure why that thread is even still around.
Thank you for the info about launchers. I am now using hephappys 9.2.2 and apex launcher. It works great and is nice and stable. Trebuchet is ok but apex has been smoother for me.

[Request] Touchwiz Widgets

Hey guys , I'm sure that like many of you , I tried the new touchwiz Rom. Since it wasn't quite as smooth as I would like it to be, I flashed back to Bonsai . I am however missing those Widgets, would it be possible for someone to upload them where we can install them? I know they are odexed, but thought one of you guys could still work it out . Surprisingly in all my time with android, that is something I have never found myself needing to do, so I'm honestly quite ignorant about it . I do know that we just can't push to system/app ... since I tried haha.
If anyone could help me out that would be awesome. I'm sure there are a few others that would be appreciative as well
Have you checked out Wizz Widgets?
I too was trying out Touchwiz and it lagged bad, And the small app tray was never used anyways so I tried out the Wizz on Bonsai, loving it
What a great request. I tried touchwiz EUR wifi and it was laggy as well, but I loved the layout and widgets.
I would also like the Aurora live wallpaper from touchwiz, if possible.
I am going to try out wizz widgets.
I don't think you can use the TW widgets without TW installed...

Hmm ...alright then, was worth a shot. I got wizz Widgets like was suggested, they are nice but are preety much just like the launcher pro plus Widgets..except not themeable :-(
I'll stay on the hunt . I liked the added color that they gave my screen, maybe Bonsai will come up with a way to integrate touchwiz and be smooth.
If I discover anything I'll report back here. Thanks for the replies .

[Q] Any way to make SGS2 desktops "silky smooth"...

My worse nightware with SGS1 was the laggy desktops - I loved the phone - but the lag was too much for me I hate the lag. so i decided to invest on the SGS2 beast. Problem is I still can see some lag, tiny, but its there i'm sure. In a microscopic scale.
Tried several kernels to workaround the problem and a couple of rom (with I removed cos I love the oficial rom).
Maybe theres some savior on this forum that can help me out.
Anyone?
Different kernels won't fix your problem.
Looks like you have a dilemma. You say you want your phone as fast and lag free as possible. But you also say that you want to use the stock rom.
You could try the rom in my siginature if you really want a lag free and fast rom. It's an AOSP rom, you ain't gonna find any faster.
Cons: Samsung apps don't work. Bluetooth is not fully working at the moment.
You could try a different launcher.
if you want speed try Zeam launcher off the market its very lightweight.
Thanks guys I'll into both options after work, have a good day!
launcherpro is also very smooth. On my 720mhz motorola xt720 it was very smooth and customizable.... So i assume on a 1.2ghz dual core with 4xram it would be gd
MIUI - I've been converted. Without doubt, it's the fastest and smoothest UI I've seen on any phone.
One thing to keep in mind: The more graphic load you'll have on your screens (icons, widgets etc) the more lag will appear.
That being said I'm running Go Launcher EX and have busy screens, yet no noticable lag at all. Running latest VillainROM, no other fancy mods.
Can you elaborate a little on that? In kinda newb in this >.<

You can flash so called ROMs on your device which replace the stock software.
They are often tweaked towards better battery life, speed amongst other stuff. You can find all of these ROMs here on this board.
E.G. Lightning Rom 6.1 is very popular.
MIUI is another ROM, all are based on Android but have a different style and approach. MIUI -though very promising- is still very new and quite beta, so I wouldn't advice going with it yet. VillainROM and Lightning Rom are very stable and safe to install.
Search around for tutorials on how to flash them, there's plenty of how to's ;-)
As for the Launcher, "Go Launcher EX" is one of many launchers you can replace on your phone. The stock one by Samsung is called Touchwiz, others basically look and feel different and have other tweaks on board. Here is where tastes differ. But with any launcher you'll have lag if you overload the screens and most will be quick and responsive if you use them in a minimalistic way.
It's not because of the phone itself, it's because of the poor coding in the widgets etc. Most don't really optimize for speed, unfortunately.
GO launcher EX is by far the smoothest launcher I've used, so give that a shot. Launcher pro and ADW launcher are both smooth as well but I find them to be more undertake unstable and have more problems when it comes to mounting apps that are installed to sdcard.
I also heard that fugutweaks also help smoothen the UI though I've never confirmed this myself.

MIUI is a Chinese made ROM that is clearly built on the Android base, but bears very little resemblance to it. At first use it looks very similar to iOS, which I know will put a lot of people off, but it is ridiculously customisable, and all from the UI, without the need for flashing anything. For example, there's a themes app where you can completely re-skin the whole device at the click of a button, and it has an online database of themes that can be downloaded, again with just the click of a button. But once you have themes on your device you can then mix and match elements of each one to make your perfect theme.
I've literally never seen customisation like it.

First thing you could try is this:
1. Download Go Launcher EX from the market.
2. Install this GO Launcher Ex theme: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex.theme.TouchWiz&hl=nl
It has the looks from touchwhiz.
If you are not satisfied, start learning about flashing roms. Then choose a rom and start the procedure from above.

Thanks man I will try it after work.
You may want to try other launchers as well: I love Zeam, which is a lightweight launcher. It doesn't have a huge lot of features but it is always fast to startup and it has enough features for me. If you need to customise the icons on your dock, you should use the Desktop Visualiser and long press on the homescreen>add>shortcut>Desktop Visualiser.
Launcher Pro is another alternative, as is ADW launcher.
You'll need a launcher switcher to toggle between all the launchers--well, as long as you have more than one!
Thanks man. I'll dig into that as well and I did tried some roms too but as I stated before I just want to fix the stocks lag. Nothing more I love everything on it...

It stutters ocassionally, it IS smooth, but it stutters too.
I think it began happening when I updated through kies to 2.3.4.
If you really don't need all the Samsung stuff (Kies, Samsung Apps etc) then I recommend Oxygen Rom and Zeam Launcher.

Best launcher for Photon 4G? Or custom ROM?

I'm the proud owner of a Motorola Photon 4G as of today. This is replacing my Sensation, and will only be used internationally (Asia, so 900/1800 Mhz 2G and 2100Mhz 3G).
Now, I see that there is a way to get rid of the Sprint hands-free activation on every boot, and I presume I can delete some of the Sprint bloatware as well. I noticed that the stock Blur launcher is kinda laggy even scrolling from screen to screen, but the rest of the phone performs very well. So if I do get a different launcher, what should I get?
Otherwise, should I do a custom ROM? I've had every phone of mine all ROM'ed up but I don't know if its worth doing that to a Motorola phone since they usually have encrypted bootloaders. Any stable ROMs that are well-suited for international use?
Im using Nemus Launcher. Its not too bad.
Good luck with getting rid of the lag tho. My whole phone is laggy even with another launcher.
If you unlock, try this ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587770 Sprint bloat is removed, rom is fast, works great. Or you can use Loki's bloat remover. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575259

I have no lag at all -- I'm using Go Launcher, and have "DeBlurred" the phone as bricky23 mentioned (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575259
).
Also just fyi, I've read that some folks feel a daily reboot does wonders to keeping the Photon running smoothly (just opinion, no facts/data to back that up).

I'm currently using MX Launcher. It's got some nice features, but shallow customization and some weird quirks. See my list of caveats in the topic about it. I still think it's worth using, but it's nowhere near as polished as some of the others.
I rephrased my issues with it to a more positive light and emailed the developer. I'd like to see this launcher get better as it does a couple things really well.
1. Cover screen. The center icon on the dock (and you can't change it) brings up the cover screen, which has a clock which follows you based on the tilt sensor. There's a power control widget here, the clock is beautiful, and it has some preset launcher icons on it. You can change them (open the clock by long-pressing 12, 3, 6, or 9 to set that icon) but you can only pick from a few and you have to use stock apps.
2. Long-press icons brings up a menu. Other launchers have this, but in MX, you can hit Info to pull up that app's Settings > Applications > Manage Applications page. Good for clearing the cache or force closing it.
Don't bother looking at the skins. Half are incompatible with our phone. The other half cost money. There is one that is free and compatible, but it's just a cover screen. No home screens. Might be a bug but I removed it promptly.
Thanks for the advice, y'all. I rooted the phone today and deblurred it already. I'm quite liking ADW Launcher right now. What's a good AOSP icon pack I can download? I'm not familiar with customizing launchers.

Thanks, I downloaded a free ICS icon pack/theme. My phone works pretty well now!
However, I'm sad that it doesn't play a bunch of my video files that always used to play on my other devices, mostly HTC ones but some AOSP as well. When I downloaded MX Player to view them, it told me that it is using SW decoding.
Is there a way to get better support for media files? The videos in question are plain old mp4, downloaded from Youtube. Some 480p, some 720p and a couple 1080p which worked on my Sensation, so I thought they'd work on the Photon as well since it has a similar chipset.
hi just curious,
which one is better on photon
ADW launcher
or
Go Launcher ?
and if we apply the "deblur" mod, how to get rid of the ADW to replace it with the Go launcher ?
I think GO is better than ADW but if you ask any 2 people, you're liable to get 2 different answers. I can't tall ya why I prefer GO. For one, it's free, but then again it pushes its widgets and locker on you. Two, ADW rubs me the wrong way. I don't know why. So no real, valid reasons. Try both. Use both, use Home Smack to switch.

I normally use adw ex but i got bored with that recently and have been using launcher 7 which is a windows phone launcher and i love it works great and is a nice change
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
Welp, I did some more reading and found out that since the Photon uses a Tegra 2 chipset, it is very picky about what it can decode in hardware. Luckily for me, a lot of my simple stuff works fine in SW decoding mode with MX Player. However, 720p and 1080p videos will need to be recoded.
I'm gonna try using Handbrake and report back. Too bad I don't have a more powerful CPU to re-encode stuff. Re-encoding stuff is why I was wary of my Zune client (I also have an HTC Titan).

I've used MIUI extensively when I had an EVO and a Defy, and I loved it. At this time, I didn't feel like it was the best since I want a stable experience and stock seemed the most stable.
Maybe when there's an ICS MIUI based on a stock Moto ROM.

Thank you for the analysis. I'll make a comment in that thread since I'm using GO Launcher now. Thank you for your work on Deblurring the Photon!
I've found that even though ADW uses less memory, GO Launcher seems to run smoother. Luckily, the Photon has 1GB of RAM.
I would definitely recommend going the custom rom route.
Right now I am using cm7.2[kang] with jokers 1.3 oc kernel and it works great. This is the most stab, much faster than stock although the battery only lasts about 4/5 as long for me. I have tried cm9 but there are still many issues right now and I am waiting for some of these to be ironed out before switching over.
As far as launchers go, cm7.2 came with ADW installed stock, and it is very snappy, especially if tuned to take out extra visual effects etc.

[Q] NOVA - Disable Sense?

Is there any way to disable Sense if I'm using Nova or another 3rd-party launcher? I still have Sense running in the background eating up resources even though I'm not using it... ugh.
No sir.... Best bet is to flash the somesense Rom and use a custom launcher. The only other way to do it is through an aosp Rom. Currently we have a pretty smooth cm9 in the dev section, but it doesn't have a few vital things working yet

You can freeze our uninstall the sense launcher along with any apps/widgets you don't use if you have a third party launcher installed. I've done this. I wouldn't go uninstalling things without knowing what it is first.

Yes and a lot of research as you might disable a vital component on accident and then you have to really flash a new Rom.

As stated above, you must be rooted to do this stuff, but in case you wanted to know...
I uninstalled just about every sense element I could find in TitaniumBackup and use Apex launcher in place of the stock one. Interestingly, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the stock ICS lockscreen popped up after uninstalling the sense lockscreen, so I don't have to run any 3rd party LS app. Also I have uninstalled the stock browser and clock, replacing them with the apks I pulled from CM9, mostly because I like the look and feel a little better, but also sense alarm wouldn't display on the ICS LS--CM9 alarm does. I had the CM9 message app on my LTE also, but found I was unable to send or receive MMS. I didn't really investigate too much further to try to get it working and I don't know if it is even possible. EX Dialer offers a more appealing phone app than does the sense version as far as I'm concerned.
There are ways to make your phone look differently, but as you said sense eats up the background, and I feel the CM9 apps run a little lighter. I enjoy a much better experience without the Sense stuff as it feels a little closer to AOSP now.
Good luck should you decide to try some of the suggestions, and remember, always always have a backup.
How did you remove the location icon?

What kind of vital things? Is it stable enought to use as a daily?
The part of sense that is still running is the 35MB shell or so of basic sense functionality throughout the whole phone.
You're not able to get rid of that, but if you use another launcher you already not loading up the launcher portion of sense. If you used the sense launcher, you'd see Sense go up to over 100MB, since the basic sense of 35 + the launcher of about 70 something will kick you over 100MB. So the fact that it still sits in the 30s shows you're not using the launcher, but Apex or Nova or whatever is probably taking up 50-70MB itself.
Right, so really no win unless you root and disable... thanks for the input all.

Lag?? Now that's a surprise. Anyway, try switch off the power save mode (by pulling down the notification bar). I believe when you are in power save mode, your CPU clock is also downgraded. It should help.....Honestly it shouldnt even lag with or without power save mode. I even have weather clock full animation on, and not even a single lag. Would you happen to install a lot of stuff? (that may run in system background) or even live wall paper??

Does this Apex Launcher with the HOX+ still have Sense 4+ enabled as well? Sorry im new to android and picking this device up the day it's released to ATT in the US this friday, very excited. Never owned or used any android device in my life and coming from iphone so this world is very new to me.
Seems like Apex Launcher basically unlocks the Sense or at least offers many ways to customize it as you wish which sounds amazing! Just like Springtomize 2 for iphone. Is this correct? You say it works well with this device and the Pro version of Apex Launcher works just as great if i decided to upgrade it after trying it out? Thank you
Hmmm well lets c. Instead of acting like a jackass & a **** & asking u to use google n such, I'll help u out with the basics if u've come from IOS (which I despise )...
1) ALL android apps (apps, games etc) extensions are .apk. To install them simply connect ur android phone via USB cable to ur PC. Now I'm assuming uve got an HOX+. Since no SD card is present, a window will pop up which is basically ur internal memory. Access it & make one folder called Download (that's what I do & I make sure that ANYTHING that is dloaded from the net on my phone goes into that one folder so that I always know where all my dloaded stuff is). The 2 main/best websites I use everyday for Android apps & games are:
http://www.ipmart-forum.com/forumdisplay.php?739-Android-OS-Zone
http://www.mobilephonetalk.com/forumdisplay.php?66-Android-Operating-System-Zone&
Register on these 2 forums. They have ALL the apps that u'll require. Yes ALL the apps Cracked too Just dload them, connect ur HOX+ to ur pc then copy the files onto the internal drive of ur HOX+. Then access the Download folder on ur HOX+ using a file manager. ASTRO File manager is the best !
2) If u don't like the HTC interface then u can install a launcher: ADW EX launcher, Launcher Pro Plus, APEX launcher are amongst the best. I used ADW when I started using android which was on my HTC Desire HD. However, that kinda became slow so I moved to Launcher Pro Plus which is perfect ! I'm still using it on my DHD which I rooted... If u root ur device then u can get rid of ALL bloatware thus making the ROM much lighter than stock. Anyway, I'm sure u get what I mean...
3) If u want a nicer clock with weather (this includes widgets) then use Beautiful Widgets. AMAZING app ! I just bought it, costs £3 I think maybe less but u get regular updates & the app is simply superb ! Worth every penny... I wud'n't suggest HD Widgets. Beautiful Widgets is just simple & light & u can dload clock & weather skins if u buy it...
4) When we do have a proper/stable way to root our HOX+ then I wud suggest flashing Android Revolution HD (ARHD by mike1986). It is IMHO the BEST custom rom out there for android phones.... I always found Cyanogen Mod to be unnecessarily complicated.... The best custom rom close to a stock rom is ARHD.... Mike1986 is a very dedicated dev & u get regular updates with his rom & lotsa other stuff as well... U'll see once u flash it...
5) What I usually do whenever I flash a custom rom is to remove the sense in that custom rom to make it lighter & MUCH faster. This is done using a No-Sense rom... Mike1986 provides ALL links to important flashable files in his thread so u needn't worry abt looking for such things....
Hmmm lets see what else ? Na I guess that's enuff of a crash course in Android I started using android in 2010 & went through MANY forums & learned a lot... XDA forums is the best forum for android device development etc... This is where I learned everything I know, not to mention my personal experiences here Hope I helped... Cheers man... p.s. to be very honest, it's more fun finding out stuff on ur own using search but it's always nice when someone lends u a helping hand...
