First, specs. On my Sprint EVO 3D. I successfully followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438.
1. Rooted Sprint ICS build 2.89.651.2
2. 4EXT Recovery with Updater
3. Locked
4. JuopunutBear S-OFF with JBear Sprint ICS (1.58.5858) bootloader
As of midmorning 6/9/13
It currently functions as it should on the stock ROM.
My original goal was to move to an AOSP Rom, probably CM. I really don't like sense.
I read through several posts on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098121 and came to the conclusion that to flash that rom I needed to downgrade my HBoot to 1.40. If I misunderstood please let me know.
I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32259533&postcount=60 to downgrade to the provided HBOOT1.40. I got bootloops let it loop for ten minutes, 7 times or so, before RUUing back to the above specs.
A little more reading led to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817513 which indicates that my 2.89 firmware is not compatible with the HBoot that I need to flash CM or another AOSP rom.
Considering my situation and experience, Is AOSP / "no Sense" an option from where I am? What have I done wrong/missed to get there?
TL;DR Wiretricked HBOOT 1.58 stock rom, 2.89 kernel, downgrading to hboot 1.40 caused bootloops. Can I get rid of sense, how?

I am going to flash the new ICS leak (build number 3.14.605.5) in hboot. after i do that, do i have to flash the new stock 2.25 hboot from superchilpills post here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
any help clarifying that would be great. i am s-off and I have been flashing roms and everything just fine, the only thing I am still a little unsure about is the hboot thing. any help would be great, thanks a lot guys
If your going to do a full ruu then running the 2.25 hboot I have posted is redundant
My suggestion is if you want to stick with the ruu and not a custom Rom then just ruu
If you want to retain the Rom you are on then only flash the one I have posted as it won't affect what Rom you are running

Hey guys, I have a similar question, but just want to be explicitly clear. I am S-OFF but then ran the full RUU for the newest 3.14, so my hboot is now the 2.25. It's not allowing me to flash back a custom recovery, so I presume I have to revert the hboot to 2.21 at least. Is it as simple as following your post posted above, downloading the ICS 2.21 hboot, renaming, and flashing in bootloader? thanks
EDIT: Nevermind, didn't notice at first it had relocked after running the RUU. Successfully re-unlocked, then pushed recovery like normal. Back in business.

I was coming from CM9 Devil's Toast and trying to update to 7.2. it was freezing at startup. eventually i was able to reload my older cm version. at this point in time i was on hboot 1.04 s-off eng and the older radio... .09 or something. I pulled he firmware zip from Android Revolution HD 2.00 and since i have gotten endless bootloops no matter what i've done. i've tried flashing stock kernal through 4ext using the stock_kernal.zip from the sticky. i've tried reloading 2 different back ups and 3 new roms... all i get is endless boot loop ... please someone, anyone have a suggestion?
Try mean ROM. It is built for the new hboot. Be sure to do a full wipe first. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645211

Or, since you're s-off (you wrote "s-of", but I imagine you meant s-off), you can put an older bootloader like 1.40 or the eng 1.04 and just restore back to DevilToast. I installed the new firmware including the new hboot and all my restores would bootloop. But once I put the eng 1.04 bootloader back on and restored, all is well.
Here's a link with both of those hboots...

i am s-off. i put 1.04 back on it and i still cant flash a new rom or restore an old backup.
From what I've been reading we need hboot 1.58
To flash the sprint ics. And have to downgrade
To hboot 1.40 to flash back to all other roms.
Hi,
i unlocked my Evo 3d the HTCdev.com way, al working fine and in tried to flash a new rom through CWM recovery (LeeDrOiD_3D_V5.3.0)
Now my unit is staying in a bootloop, the white HTC screens pops up for a few seconds and boots throught to the LeeDrOid bootscreen, you hear the sound for a second and it reboots again.
I Already tried to flash the boot.img extracted from the LeeDrOid manually, but it stays the same.
Did i overlooked something? Did i brick my unit? I dont know...
The following numbers pop up when i boot in the bootloader:
***Unlocked****
SHOOTER-U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.53.0007
eMMC-boot
Radio: 11.25.3504.06
What to do? Or do i have a fancy paperweight now?
I think its because you are trying to flash a gingerbread rom. AFAIK its not possible to boot GB on 1.53 hboot. I would suggest trying an ICS rom
So i installed Yoda's ICS v5.1 and now the unit only boots till the white HTC screen and reboots on and on...
maybe if you list the things you tried i could help you more.
factory reset and wipe cache+delvik cache before installing rom?
manually flashed boot.img?
i would suggest getting s-off to save yourself all the hassle
How do i install S-OFF when i cannot fully boot the unit?
Yes, i tried to install Boot.img manually through ABD, but issue still persists.
S-off isnt something to install. I'd recommend you run an RUU and get beck to stock. After that look in the gsm development section you will find a thread for s-offing your phone. It involves the wire trick.

Which RUU should i download, which one do you recommend? And i can do this while connected with Fastboot, isnt it?

I had the very same issue, see my post here for some help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897719
I think your hboot is the key; if your unlocked through HTC while on a GB rom then you are limited to GB roms, if you want ICS, you need to re lock, ruu the stock ICS rom, then unlock, then install the custom ICS rom.
I'm no expert but that seemed to fix my issue, i did take the extra step and get S-off, so i truly get full control of my phone.
His hboot is 1.53 which means he did update to ics. Relocking his bootloader and running an RUU should get him to boot into stock rom. Then maybe he can s-off.
There are so many people with 1.53 hboot having problems with every single rom. I didnt take the ota for this exact reason. Revolutionary hboot hasnt given me trouble with any rom.

I just checked the unlimited.io (JBear) website and their modified bootloader for the Evo 3D GSM on ICS is 1.53.5353 so it seems like they support the wire trick with the ICS update, but I agree that it would be better to start by flashing the ICS RUU.exe then HTC unlock and root before doing JuopunutBear.

Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue installing a Jelly Bean ROM. Just for background info, I have hboot 1.50, the 2.89 firmware, and the phone is s-off and unlocked. Whenever I install a Jelly Bean ROM I get a boot loop at the HTC screen. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I may possibly fix this? I want my JB fix!
I know people say hboot 1.5 works, but people tend to have better luck with hboot 1.04 or 1.4.
If that doesn't work, which it didn't for me when I had the same issue, try the ruu.exe. You'll remain s-off, but completely stock. Then flash hboot above, 4ext recovery, then Rom.

Which RUU? The 2.89 version? I don't care about being stock since I can always flash a new ROM after. I gotta look around for the hboot 1.40. Thanks for the info.

Here's a guide that you will find useful. I'm just providing this for you because it has a link to the ruu exe you need and links to hboot versions

I have had this phone for 9 months in this state.. i had Negalite Blue 1.09 installed. it messed up and started to bootloop. so i did my normal fix. SetMainVerLOW and flashed the stock 2.89 RUU. but this time rather than fix my problem, it has stayed with a bootloop. i searched high and low, and ANY fix i found involved getting S-OFF. unfortunately i CAN'T because i cannot boot. I relocked, then unlocked. i tried CWM, 4EXT, TWRP recoveries. tried stock rooted ROM, MeanROM, negalite, and nothing... EVERYTHING bootloops.. I DON'T want to get rid of the phone as it is the best i have been able to afford, but i am afraid that it may not have any fix..:crying: PLEASE tell me,HOW CAN I FIX THIS???.... Again, currently Relocked, S-ON, HBOOT 1.58 and freshly flashed 2.89 RUU.
Use Ultimate recovey tool, downgrade hoot to 1.4, install ruu 1.13. Then s-off with revolutionary. Then install ruu 2.89 when s-off
