hello all
my phone is bugging out and some one suggested to flash the latest RUU.
- quick question.
---if i flash the latest RUU will i loose root?
Yes you will lose root.
thank you.
Quick question ............
-how can i flash a RUU that has the Hboot of 1.4 instead of a 1.5.
(can some one please help me my phone randomly reboots on any rom, i was recommended to flash a RUU and then unlock again)
If your current HBoot is 1.50 with S-ON you can't downgrade the Hboot, at all. You won't be able to flash a lower Firmware/baseband than what's currently installed either, but you can reflash the RUU for what's installed or a newer one.
If you have HTC Unlocked HBoot 1.50 and S-ON, you can get more info that may help you in the Guide/Flashing notes in my signature.
Edit: Saw your question in the other section that you have Hboot 1.40. Disregard
I have S-off and my hboot reads 2.21 .0000. I've noticed on other people's devices the hboot is 2.11.1111. What's the difference?

Once I get S-OFF I can just flash the latest GB OTA RUU and that should bring me back to HBoot 2.11?
I'm already on ICS firmware but want to go back to out of the box stock GB.

Yap. The ruu will drop you back to 2.11 and also reinstall the older radios. I did this right after obtaining S-OFF to start with a fresh phone. I am now on GB firmware(ENG hboot) running ICS using the old firmware patch.

So you ran the full gb ruu and your hboot downgraded to 2.11 but still s-off/locked correct? Then you fastboot flashed the 2.11 eng hboot correct?
Just asking because I will try this later.

Ok, I'm confused on one thing, at what points from s-off to gb ruu to eng hboot do I have to lock and relock?

I just tried this running the juopunutbear modified hboot 2.21 s-off locked. I ran the full gb ruu, bootloader no longer said juopunutbear, it just showed a stock 2.11 locked s-off. I flashed the 2.11 eng hboot in fastboot. Now it shows locked, hboot 2.11 eng s-off. No issues at all. I never once had to unlock.

Ok but right now I'm on ICS firmware from the ICS Leaked RUU and HBoot 2.21 and at the top of the bootloader it says Tampered ReLocked.
So your saying that at no point do I need to unlock? I'm gonna go home and s-off the run the GB OTA RUU and then flash Amon Ra recovery and possibly flash ENG HBoot, and I don't need to unlock?

The unlock is useless once you obtain s-off.
The ***tampered*** is showing because you are still using the stock 2.21 hboot. If you flash the juopunutbear modified hboot in fastboot you will no longer see the ***tampered*** or the ***locked*** in the hboot, it will only show Juopunutbear at the top.
here are 3 pictures to better explain using the 2.21 hboot.
left: unlocked/s-on/tampered.
middle: locked/s-off/tampered
right: s-off/juopunutbear
juopunutbear is a modified 2.21 hboot, almost like a eng hboot for ONLY ics firmware,
make sense?
Yes but do I have to take the jbear hboot during s-off? I just want to go back to GB and I don't mind using the GB HBoot. I may try the ENG HBoot after I'm on GB HBoot.

rename jb_hboot.zip found in the "controlbear" folder to PH98IMG.zip and flash it as you normally flash a PH image.
that will change your hboot to their modified version where is says juopunutbear.
**ONLY IF YOU ARE ON THE HBOOT 2.21**

i did not take it. i flashed it manually as i heard others saying it did not flash. so i skipped it and did it myself.
as far as downgrading a stock hboot 2.21 s-off to to stock 2.11 s-off i do not know...i see no reason why you cannot?
the gb ruu will give you a stock 2.11 anyway while keeping your status to s-off.
i will try later tonight. i just came back from the doctors a little nauseated from some meds....

Now I get it, thanks cdexsw. Basically it doesn't matter because the gb ota ruu will bring me back to gb hboot anyway. Thanks a bunch guys.

No authority here, but just passing along a couple of things as they were explained to me:
1. Even with S-off, you might not be able fastboot flash (installing recovery, for example) while locked. Alternatives would be to either unlock, install the ENG HBOOT, or flash with PH98IMG.zip.
2. Also, I believe there was a big note in a thread saying that you could brick your phone by relocking over the ENG HBOOT. The instructions were to restore the correct HBOOT for your configuration before relocking.
As for me, I decided that I do enough flashing that I want fastboot commands to work, and I'm less afraid of resetting everything to restore my phone to factory "LOCKED" indicator than I am afraid of reflashing the only thing that absolutely must be intact to keep from bricking the phone. So I unlocked the stock loader despite having s-off already.

#1 is definitely up for debate but so far I have had no issues using fastboot to flash recoveries and kernels. I tested this stock hboot 2.11 and 2.21 with locked s-off.
#2 I was advised not to try when this question was asked from another thread. I would not even want to. the chances of big brother actually checking for s-on/s-off or locked/unlock/relocked is slim to none.....i would not even bother with an s-on command.
I am currently locked on 2.11 eng s-off running RezROM S4 v1.1 with his firmware patch. phone has great battery life, no data loss and operates much much cooler
Is It possible to return to stock ruu and stock hboot without losing s-off? I posted earlier about the memory issue i'm having and i'm thinking it's due to me upgrading hboots. But i don't want to have to go through the entire process or getting s-off again. Right now i'm rooted on neo's aokp never flashed a ruu just always flashed patchable firmware zips. updated to 2.73 hboot i think it was today to fix damaged sd card issue. Please help.
Yes, first RUU, then rename the hex-edit hboot entitled "locked" to PH98IMG and flash in bootloader. (You will not lose S-Off)

s-off is permanent unless you use the fastboot command.
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue installing a Jelly Bean ROM. Just for background info, I have hboot 1.50, the 2.89 firmware, and the phone is s-off and unlocked. Whenever I install a Jelly Bean ROM I get a boot loop at the HTC screen. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I may possibly fix this? I want my JB fix!
I know people say hboot 1.5 works, but people tend to have better luck with hboot 1.04 or 1.4.
If that doesn't work, which it didn't for me when I had the same issue, try the ruu.exe. You'll remain s-off, but completely stock. Then flash hboot above, 4ext recovery, then Rom.

Which RUU? The 2.89 version? I don't care about being stock since I can always flash a new ROM after. I gotta look around for the hboot 1.40. Thanks for the info.

Here's a guide that you will find useful. I'm just providing this for you because it has a link to the ruu exe you need and links to hboot versions

First, specs. On my Sprint EVO 3D. I successfully followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438.
1. Rooted Sprint ICS build 2.89.651.2
2. 4EXT Recovery with Updater
3. Locked
4. JuopunutBear S-OFF with JBear Sprint ICS (1.58.5858) bootloader
As of midmorning 6/9/13
It currently functions as it should on the stock ROM.
My original goal was to move to an AOSP Rom, probably CM. I really don't like sense.
I read through several posts on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098121 and came to the conclusion that to flash that rom I needed to downgrade my HBoot to 1.40. If I misunderstood please let me know.
I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32259533&postcount=60 to downgrade to the provided HBOOT1.40. I got bootloops let it loop for ten minutes, 7 times or so, before RUUing back to the above specs.
A little more reading led to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817513 which indicates that my 2.89 firmware is not compatible with the HBoot that I need to flash CM or another AOSP rom.
Considering my situation and experience, Is AOSP / "no Sense" an option from where I am? What have I done wrong/missed to get there?
TL;DR Wiretricked HBOOT 1.58 stock rom, 2.89 kernel, downgrading to hboot 1.40 caused bootloops. Can I get rid of sense, how?
