I have S-off and my hboot reads 2.21 .0000. I've noticed on other people's devices the hboot is 2.11.1111. What's the difference?

Once I get S-OFF I can just flash the latest GB OTA RUU and that should bring me back to HBoot 2.11?
I'm already on ICS firmware but want to go back to out of the box stock GB.

Yap. The ruu will drop you back to 2.11 and also reinstall the older radios. I did this right after obtaining S-OFF to start with a fresh phone. I am now on GB firmware(ENG hboot) running ICS using the old firmware patch.

So you ran the full gb ruu and your hboot downgraded to 2.11 but still s-off/locked correct? Then you fastboot flashed the 2.11 eng hboot correct?
Just asking because I will try this later.

I just tried this running the juopunutbear modified hboot 2.21 s-off locked. I ran the full gb ruu, bootloader no longer said juopunutbear, it just showed a stock 2.11 locked s-off. I flashed the 2.11 eng hboot in fastboot. Now it shows locked, hboot 2.11 eng s-off. No issues at all. I never once had to unlock.

Ok but right now I'm on ICS firmware from the ICS Leaked RUU and HBoot 2.21 and at the top of the bootloader it says Tampered ReLocked.
So your saying that at no point do I need to unlock? I'm gonna go home and s-off the run the GB OTA RUU and then flash Amon Ra recovery and possibly flash ENG HBoot, and I don't need to unlock?

The unlock is useless once you obtain s-off.
The ***tampered*** is showing because you are still using the stock 2.21 hboot. If you flash the juopunutbear modified hboot in fastboot you will no longer see the ***tampered*** or the ***locked*** in the hboot, it will only show Juopunutbear at the top.
here are 3 pictures to better explain using the 2.21 hboot.
left: unlocked/s-on/tampered.
middle: locked/s-off/tampered
right: s-off/juopunutbear
juopunutbear is a modified 2.21 hboot, almost like a eng hboot for ONLY ics firmware,
make sense?
Yes but do I have to take the jbear hboot during s-off? I just want to go back to GB and I don't mind using the GB HBoot. I may try the ENG HBoot after I'm on GB HBoot.

rename jb_hboot.zip found in the "controlbear" folder to PH98IMG.zip and flash it as you normally flash a PH image.
that will change your hboot to their modified version where is says juopunutbear.

i did not take it. i flashed it manually as i heard others saying it did not flash. so i skipped it and did it myself.
as far as downgrading a stock hboot 2.21 s-off to to stock 2.11 s-off i do not know...i see no reason why you cannot?
the gb ruu will give you a stock 2.11 anyway while keeping your status to s-off.
i will try later tonight. i just came back from the doctors a little nauseated from some meds....

No authority here, but just passing along a couple of things as they were explained to me:
1. Even with S-off, you might not be able fastboot flash (installing recovery, for example) while locked. Alternatives would be to either unlock, install the ENG HBOOT, or flash with PH98IMG.zip.
2. Also, I believe there was a big note in a thread saying that you could brick your phone by relocking over the ENG HBOOT. The instructions were to restore the correct HBOOT for your configuration before relocking.
As for me, I decided that I do enough flashing that I want fastboot commands to work, and I'm less afraid of resetting everything to restore my phone to factory "LOCKED" indicator than I am afraid of reflashing the only thing that absolutely must be intact to keep from bricking the phone. So I unlocked the stock loader despite having s-off already.

#1 is definitely up for debate but so far I have had no issues using fastboot to flash recoveries and kernels. I tested this stock hboot 2.11 and 2.21 with locked s-off.
#2 I was advised not to try when this question was asked from another thread. I would not even want to. the chances of big brother actually checking for s-on/s-off or locked/unlock/relocked is slim to none.....i would not even bother with an s-on command.
I am currently locked on 2.11 eng s-off running RezROM S4 v1.1 with his firmware patch. phone has great battery life, no data loss and operates much much cooler

I was on hboot 1.50 unlocked with s-off. I got a new sd card yesterday and loaded the 1.40 ruu on to it and now I'm just 1.40 with s-off. No more pink banner and I still can flash anything. Pretty sweet...guess I have a weird phone.

Dude I just asked this in another thread a minute ago. lol
I am in the same boat. I rooted with Revolutionary and was S-off on 1.40. I accidentlaly flashed a radio/firmware update that pushed me to hboot 1.50 S-off with a Pink Locked banner.
I really want to get back to 1.40.
Can you link me to what you flashed or did?
Just put the p86img.zip containing hboot 1.40 on root of sd-card and go into bootloader. It will auto-detect it and tell you to press vol. up to flash it. It's not a 'weird' phone, it's having the security flag off .
Lol I downloaded the 1.40 ruu file, renamed it to PG86IMG.Zip,put it on a different sd card, put the new sd card in my phone and ran it when it was done my phone didn't have the pink banner anymore and it didn't say 1.50 now I'm back to good old 1.40 s-off and no pink banner

Where do I find just the Hboot? I saw Haus's thread with Engineering hboot. There was a 1.4 and 1.04 version I think? Do I just grab the 1.4 version?
I am 1.50 S-Off and it says Locked.
*Edit* LINK REMOVED: I don't wanna confuse people. You must have had S-off with revolutionary first, in order to roll back off hboot 1.50

If I'm reading the post done here... I think it means if you had 1.40 hboot before and used the s-off method but by mistake upgraded your hboot. You can then downgrade your hboot, I'm not so sure though! Give a try and let us know.

No, you need S-OFF to flash HBOOT 1.40 over HBOOT 1.50. The HTC Unlocked HBOOT allows you to flash a custom recovery and ROMs, but not overwrite HBOOT.
can we flash hboot 1.40 from fastboot ('adb reboot bootloader' from pc)
i was on hboot 1.40 with a custom rom, then went back to stock and forgot the step to lock my bootloader. after all the stock rom updates im on hboot 1.50 with s-off. can i flash roms (kernels actually) without fastboot now?

Anyways, go this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192306 and download the SHIP 1.40 hboot (unless you want the ENG one, then download that). Follow the instructions in that post, and flash it. Just a simple PG86IMG.zip.

Hello. I'm going to try to keep this short. I had Hboot 1.4 S-Off, then stupidly flashed the 2.17 Ruu. Now I have Hboot 1.5, but the S--Off stuck, but it's locked. So, Hboot 1.5, locked, but S-off. My Queston is, if I wanted to restore a nandroid backup from before I updated, could I do that now, or would I need to unlock the bootloader first?

Cool, I don't anticipate ever having to relock my phone but I was thinking of flashing to a standard Hboot just because. I like to minimize the possible ways i can brick my phone.

The 2.04 and 1.15 hboot are the same you can if you want to... ive done it w/o any problems you wont lose s-off or unlocked but you arent going to gain anything either
download the 2.04 hboot place it where you would for any adb/fastboot command
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip PL83IMG.zip
when the terminal says its done wait a few seconds (the green bar wont fill up 100% so dont worry it will stick at about 3/4 the way)
Code:
fastboot oem boot

Hi,
Because my HTC Evo 3D is gone for repairs it will (hopefuly) return fixed and most probably updated to stock ICS with hboot 1.53.0007. Previously I've used HTCdev to unlock the bootloader and install 4ext recovery, then the Wire Trick to get S-off and finally this guide to downgrade to hboot 1.49.0007
Before sending the mobile for repairs, I've reverted it as close to stock as possible, using the method described here. One of the steps required extracting ROM.zip from RUU exe file, renaming it to PG86IMG.zip and installing in fastboot.
Now my question is... With a "fresh" phone (ICS, S-on, locked), will it be possible to install PG86IMG.zip extracted from Gingerbread RUU in fastboot? If this way works, it would downgrade hboot to 1.49.0007 and then allow me to use Revolutionary to get the phone Unlocked and S-off (instead of the HTCDev + Juopunutbear + hboot downgrade combination).
Will this work or will it fail? If the latter, is there a chance of bricking the device?
I'm sorry if my question is noobish, but I'm still very new to all the HTC hboot, S-on/S-off and fastboot stuff...
Best regards,
Crocodil

Yes, but if you left your phone s-off you could get it back s-off. Then you can do the RUU thing. AFAIK service won't touch s-off unless they change the motherboard
It will fail because the main version of the Gingerbread ROM is lower than your current ROM

Well, the touchscreen in lower bottom of the screen has stopped working and the phone is still on warranty, so I've reverted it to stock ICS + s-on + "Relocked" (didn't find any way to get back to "Locked"). This way there's a better chance that they will do the repair on warranty but I've read different reports about the Polish HTC certificated repair service... Sometimes they void warranty for using HTCdev unlock even if a problem is clearly with hardware (like in my case).
I hope that my EVO does get repaired as I've really enjoyed using it with CM11...
