[Q] Bootloop after flashing CWM Touch, DL Mode working only - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I got my SGS3 on Friday, it took two hours until I got bored and rooted it.
First everything was fine, I was using CWM (installed via ROM Manager) and tried some ROMS.
Today, when I wanted to flash CWM Touch via ROM Manager, the phone rebooted and since then in stuck in a boot loop.
There was no error during the process, according to ROM Manager the recovery was properly flashed. All I can do is entering the Download Mode.
I tried to flash two different stock images via ODIN3 (v3.07) but the phone keeps rebooting, even when i try to repartition it using "GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit". I can boot the phone into recovery, I can see the recovery for a short moment and then the phone reboots. I made it to flash CWM 6.0.3.1 via ODIN, and when booting into recovery then I can see that it worked, but after a second the phone reboots.
Currently I'm downloading a 3-part/3-files factory image, hoping this can help. According to what I've read on the forums so far I don't think it will change anything, but who knows... Any other suggestions?

rom manager is not supported on all the phones. probably that should have damaged your phone. hope you get your phone working. good luck :good:

I was using CWM (installed via ROM Manager)
Remove rom manager .
CWM says
Not compatible with ROM Manager !
That is if you recover from damaged pit .

Hey guys,
thanks so far... According to the CWM homepage the SGS3 is supported, in fact there's current even a newer CWM version available for SGS3 than for GNEX.
Fortunatly I just made it to un-soft-brick the device:
- Removed the battery for a few minutes, then placed it back in the phone (for some reason the phone often booted as soon as the battery was back in its place, so I had to be quick).
- Tried to reboot into recovery again, holding "Vol+"+"Home"+"Power" until the recovery showed up, and the phone rebooted.
- Kept on holding "Vol+"+"Home"+"Power" until recovery showed up again, for some reason the phone didn't reboot this time, and then I released all buttons.
- Thanks to ODIN I could now use CWM 6.0.3.1 to flash S4 Revolution (by Elegant Team) from my internal storage, rebooted the phone and it worked. All my data was still in place, so it seems all my attempts to flash the stock images via ODIN did not succeed, save for the stock recovery.
Crap, I was really afraid of having my brand-new SGS3 hard-bricked only a few days after delivery. With my HTC Desire HD it took me almost 6 months to cause the first almost-brick.
There's only one thing I can image with ms SGS3 that might have affected the CWM / ROM Manager flash - I was running a S4-ported ROM ("S4 Revolution"), because this makes "TriangleAway" recognize it as "I9500" phone, so I cannot reset the counter at the moment.
But ROM Manager always showed "GT-I9300"... So in the end I've no clue what has happened so far.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 bricked?

Hi I hope someone can help me. I have searched this forum but could not find a similar situation to what I ended up in...
I tried to install a custom ROM on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 using the CWM/Odin.
This seemed succesful but was not, it did not start but was stuck in the Samsung logo.
So I tried entering the CWM and download and install an original Samsung ROM. I can get it into CWM, but CWM cannot enter the download mode only the other mode.
In this mode all options are available:
- reboot
- apply update from SD card
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
All options have been tried without any luck. In the update from SD card it only shows ...
or Error opening /data/media: no such file or directory
Any ideas how I could get this directory back or put a ROM on the Samsung in this situation.
Odin does see the Galaxy but as I cannot get it into Download mode I am unable to download anything to it.
All or any suggestions are very welcome!
1. CWM (Clockworkmod) =! Odin.
In the beginning, you don't have CWM installed. You install CWM, by flashing CWM on your Phone with odin.
Odin is the Windows Programm, that is used to flash Recoveries/ROM's/Kernels onto your device.
2. it seems, that you still have the default Samsung recovery installed, that meand CWM is not yet flashed on your device.
If the flashing process was succesful (I suppose it was done with odin), but you can't get past the Samsung logo, that means, you probably flashed a rom, that isn't made for your device(ex. a GTab 10.1v Rom).
If you DID flash a wrong rom, then you probably ****ed up the partition table and removed the Download Mode(Odin Mode). Strange thing is, that you still have the Stock recovery.
Could you please redirect us to the rom you downloaded?
Also, did you flash with a repartition on and/or a .pit file?
hi Kaukassus,
thanks for the reply.
OK I checked the files and what I did.
I think I totaly screwed this up. It was a theme I tried to install the AOSP_HC_v1.3_3G+KI1.
I rooted the Tab. So first when the Tab was still functioning installed it on the TAB via USB.
Than tried to install this via update from SD card.
This appeared to work initially. But hung at the start.
After that I tried (via Power Volume Up) wipe data/factory reset.
No luck.
After that I tried wipe cache partition followed by wipe data/factory reset.
And this is what I got now..
Bad news is the Tab was/is a X-mas present and I managed to screw it up even before I officially got it !-(
The valuable lesson you're learning is that you need to be aware exactly what things you're flashing and their compatibility with your device and the software it's running.
You haven't mentioned what specific device you're using or the specific things you've tried to flash (as kaukassus pointed out, direct links to threads where you got the files you tried to flash are best). Not sure if you're aware but not all GT 10.1's are equal; there are several models out there and each and every ROM is specific to a particular device. Verizon LTE GT 10.1's like mine can't take ROMs from any other device for example, it's likely that the new T-Mobile 4G one's wont be able to trade ROMs with Verizon ones . . you get the point.
When you say you installed via USB what exactly did you mean? If you simply copied a zip file via USB to the tab to flash in recovery mode that's not installing; the flashing from recovery may be but the file copy operation is not. If on the other hand you pushed things via ADB or you flash using Odin software then that's a different story.
Best thing to do at this point is to properly identify your device, look for a stock recovery image for Odin and flash that via Odin to your device. At that point you can start from scratch again to build what you want.
Thanks Muzzy996.
You are right. I was in a rush and should have taken more time.
However I am getting somewhere. Managed to get in download mode twice today, don't ask me how. This Tab just will not go into download mode!
However I did not have the stock ROM ready to be installed.
Will keep you updated.
i have the same problem. i just rooted my device was going to overclock. decided to save my rom with rom manager. saved it device went to reboot now the samsung galaxy 10.1 shows up screen goes dim then shuts off, and will cont. do this. i can get into download mode but recovery will not work. is there anyway to download my stock rom. im using verizion 4g 10.1 any help would be great, btw sorry to thread jack
Problem solved.
Managed to get it in download mode again and install stock rom via Odin.
Appeared to work fine. But kep switching off, even after full night of charging.
This morning Tab was dead after recharging whole night..
Got it back on by holding volume down and power button down.
i found a stock rom and im trying to upload it via odin, however odin does not find my tab? any ideas. btw congrats on getting ur tab back
I crashed both my I9000 (galaxy s) flashing custom roms and my tab 10.1 (editing some system files) both ended up just looping but managed to get both back. I purchased a small connector of ebay £1.59 that has just a resistor accross pins 4&5 331k I think anyway plugging this into most samsung devices boots them into download mode. Even before getting my resistor I managed to get things working I think that you'd have to be properly unlucky to really brick a samsung I've flashed both my devices with all sorts of crap with my little resistor I just reset them with ease.

[Q] [Help needed] S3 mini wont boot into recovery.

Mid year I decided to root and flash Cm 11 onto my little s3 mini (gt-i8190) and everything went great. Recently I read on the Novafusion website that they recommend using TWRP instead of CWM, searched on Google and saw it was safe to flash over custom recoveries. I used Odin to flash over the TWRP I downloaded from the Novafusion site. When odin completed its process my phone rebooted into TWRP and it all seemed fine, then I proceeded to flash the latest version of the Cm 11 4.4.4 rom. Again everything went great and my phone booted up normally.
I got the zip file for the Android L keyboard and I used Rom manager to reboot into recovery and showed the "Samsung Galaxy sIII mini gt-i8190 screen and just went black for 10 seconds, rebooted and continued going black then rebooting. I pulled the battery out and booted up my phone again then used rom manager to flash CWM again and it worked! I used CWM to flash the keyboard apk and it worked.
I was a little bit worried about the recovery bootloop and decided to make a nandroid backup. I couldnt reboot into recovery, manual way or with Rom manager.
I have used odin to flash CWM and TWRP a few times now without any luck. My phone just reboots normally when odin finishes.
If anyone could shed some light on this issue I would be grateful.
Thank you.

[Q] I am about to give up. There must be a solution but I cant find it

Hi everyone
My sister updated her MEGA OTA last month. She cant remember which version she was on. I am assuming it was 4.3. shes doesnt know much,
Her phone got stuck in bootloop.
Initially a got a hard time even getting into restore mode. however after a lot of goggling and trials and errors here is where i am today :
1- I can install TWRP and/or Philz recovery and boot into them.
2- I can enter download mode
3- I have tried installing many ROMS and different versions. I was only partially successful with 4.4 versions because I get a passed message in Odin however upon restart the phone enters boot loop again.
4- I have tried multiple wipe data/dalvik cache/cache and restoring factory settings but i still get the same results.
5- Only in Philz recovery i can mount the external SD card and copy zip files. I was able to root the phone that was (but im not sure if it still is). However all ROMs zip files I tried to install (both from PC and from extSD card) wouldnt open in recovery mode.
Because I get a passed message when I install a ROM from Odin , I dont know what the issue could be. But there is something wrong that happens as soon as this phone boots up.
I seriously do not know what to do anymore. I just need this phone to be working again. At this point I dont care about warranties/ROM versions/stock or custom...
Please help and sorry for my bad English
It sounds like you need to download the stock rom and flash it in Odin (you gotta put the phone in download mode to flash in Odin). The stock rom can be found on the sammobile website in the firmware section. That should get you back to square one (stock rom, stock recovery, no root). Then you start over from scratch.
Sent from my SGH-M819N using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks
I did and I still get the same problem.
In fact after installing stock rom, i could not enter "stock" so I installed philz recovery, logged in philz and wiped cache a couple of time, did a factory reset.
and yet when i restart , the phone is stuck in bootloop.
Maybe she has a Galaxy Mega with a repaired screen. Starting with 4.4 Samsung only supports a digitizer with Synaptics brand chip. It's a big mess and there are countless screens and digitizers made worthless. I think unofficial 4.4 by Cyanogen and others might work, but not official Samsung. With some Galaxy Megas you get a bootloop. With others it boots however the digitizer and touch functions no longer work. I don't know how to go back after you are on official 4.4 because last I saw, there was no root for it. If I'm wrong, someone else please clarify and continue to help.
IMHO only one way out from such situation is try to flash MegaFire MJ2 which is derived from stock 4.2. It's only one 4.2 ROM which can be safely flashed onto KK.
Iformation about MegaFire you can find HERE

[Q] Soft Brick. Cyanogen recovery loop. Will you please help?

Hello, i will try to be thorough.
BUT, i am a noob and didnt write down everything i did.
Have a I717 at&t note 1. with the 4.1.2 update originally OTA installed by keis.
I recently rooted it using Saferoot. it went well and i didnt see any problems. i flashed a custom rom and didnt like it so using clockworkmod recovery i went back to the 4.1.2. I then tried pac lollipop >pac_quicyatt_lp.beta-1.unofficial_20150327< i liked this rom but needed to flash Gapps.
This is where the trouble started. i didnt/dont know the proper procedure to flash the Gapps on top of or into the rom.
I first tried >gapps-5.0.x-20150404-minimal-edition-signed.zip< and it looked like it loaded correctly. but nothing appeared in the phone. the pac rom was still working well.
I then did more research and tried >gapps-lp-20150222-signed.zip< , again it looked like it loaded well but nothing showed up "in" the phone.
right here is where things got screwy. i had been using clorkworkmod for recovery and rebooting. and i think somewhere in developer settings i clicked something about how rebooting is handled.
because after trying to install the Gapps it went into Cyanogen recovery... and loops.
no matter what i do it goes back to cyanogen recovery.
I never knowingly installed cyanogen and dont know why it all of a sudden is going into cyanogen recovery over and over.
a list of things that may have bearing:
1. i tried reinstalling the pac rom. it loads and completes but it still just goes to recovery.
2. tried different ways of clearing cache and data wipes.
3. computer, kies, and odin 3.09 do not recognize phone.
4. have proper drivers on computer. phone was previously recognized by kies and cpu (4.1.2).
5. currently the only way to get anything into phone is by pulling sd card and reinstalling with info on it then using cyanogen recovery.
6. i have searched for about 11 hours and tried a bunch of things. but just restarts in cyanogen recovery
7. i was scared to fully try things i found that wernt specifically for the i717.
8. i could not find an original gingerbread rom. they all seemed fishy (needed downloaders. or ended in .zip.rar)
9. had backed up with clockworkmod and with titanium recovery (while in 4.1.2).
I dont know if i can reach the clockworkmod save through cyanogen recovery.... if so it seems like a great option.
10. at the bottom of the screen while loading rom is.... ---->>> E: cannot load volume /misc
11. only pac rom will successfully re-flash (even though it still just goes back to cyanogen). any other flash and it crashes halfway through.... i then restart and it just loops back to cyanogen recovery.
I searched here and tried the five recommended posts.
I could not try a lot of the "fixes" because the phone isnt recognized by cpu or odin (computer does beep when connected but doesnt show up anywhere).
Can you help me get back my phone please?

Can't install ClockWorkMode on my Galaxy s3

Hello,
I come for you, because I am trying to install android 4.4 on my phone, because android 4.3 isn't compatible with pokemongo.
I have a galaxy s3 GT-I9300 from a few years, I've never rooted it and it runs on android 4.3.
I've been looking for guides that say that I need to install CWM recovery to then be able to install CyanogenMod.
So I've downloaded Odin, and CWM recovery, added the CWM recovery .tar in the AP box of Odin, put my phone on download mod, plugged it, and run Odin.
It appears that it works succesfully, but when I reboot my phone in recovery mode, I still have Android Recovery System <e3>, and I can't install zip from sdcards (if I understood correctly, <e3> doesn't support zip, whereas <e2> does, and CWM is supposed to put it to <e2>), so I can't install CyanogenMod.
Here is a screenshot of my Odin after running it: (I can't post the link since I'm a new user, so it's on imgur)

I can't think of any more information to provide for now.
Thanks for your help.

It could be permission issues. But try using a different cable.
Also, the recovery you are flashing has to support the model of the phone, otherwise, Odin will refuse to install it.

Thanks for the answer, I was not in root mode.
I fixed it and it now works, I have been able to install CyanogenMod from the zip in recovery.
Now I tried restarting my phone, and it's stuck in "Android is starting".
I have a little blue alien popping on my screen, then the screen turns off, then the screen turns on and says things like "starting applications, preparing settings, optimizing applications". But it seems to be doing it on repeat and it's been an hour. Is it normal that it takes so long? I haven't seen it mentionned anywhere from what I checked.
