Vine compatable roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Twitter's video snippet ap, Vine, just launched in the Android market. Unfortunately, so far it's been crashing on the custom roms I've tried it on (Jamie's Revolt and SuperNexus). I was wondering if anyone's had any success with the app on their phones. If so, please share which rom you are running.
Thanks.

The reviews are pretty negative regarding this appp -- two stars.
But lt looks like the developer just fixed crash problems for the S2 using OS 4.1.2 so I'm guessing it may be a while before it works smoothly with 4.2.2.
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.

This is not the app. It is the acual Rom that's the problem. CM based roms have no support to 3rd party apps when it comes to the camera. So snapchat, instagram, vine, etc will not work with 4.2.2 roms. If you want the camera based apps to work, you'll have to go over to 4.1.2. (Blackstar jelly or padawan rom.)

Ahh... interesting. I'll give it a test and report back.

OPGT was 100% correct. The app works great (or at least as intended) with Padawan JB V2. Thanks for the help.

Right.

Yeah, the app sucks. It's share features don't work as described either. And it's missing facebook integration.

Don't know or care what Vine is, but apps that use the Camera work just fine on 4.2.2 for me. Camera Zoom FX, Grocery King, QR Code Scanners, etc etc.

What about Google Chrome

Hi,

No no, thank you for searching and obeying rule #1.
Chrome for Android freezes quite frequently.. Lacks desktop mode.. doesn't supports native fonts as stock browser does.. Issues when sorted should be a tidy browser..
It's still "beta". If you need more information, ask MR. SEARCH
Its okay, the idea is very nice it can be extremelu fluid just like chrome browser, but bcoz of the beta, theres a few places where it crashes, i.e. full screen flash but that also may be because of the beta ICS
Ok, thanks for your back ups ! So it's worthy : even in beta, going to dowload and use it
After two weeks using Google Chrome beta, I removed it and come back to the stock browser.
Globaly, I enjoyed the frame and tab process, the browser is fast but for a day to day use, too much lags and freezes yet.
Hope the beta will evolve quickly...
Please oinkylicious and 078gregory don't click on the Thanks button.
chrome working good in dxlp7 rom, havent crashed as before for me in this rom. very good for a beta. expect all the features in upcoming versions

PS. Chrome works perfectly on XXLPQ
Thanks !
As it seems important and I do forgot to mention it : I am using a XXLPJ kernel.
I'll do my best to try it again moving to a XXLPQ...
Although I don't use chrome beta as my main browser, it has worked OK so far in my LPQ...
With AOKP RESURRECTION REMIX ROM i went back testing Chrome beta.
Works properly , smooth. no more FC.
good browser
Depuis Tapatalk
Works perfectly after latest update, fast, doesn't hang or fc.
I'm using the latest hydrogen rom (aokp).

JB 4.2 apps

Hey Guys,
I found these over in the Galaxy Nexus forum but it works with my PA 2.53 Nov.4 build. Its the Full google apps for 4.2 Jelly Bean including: the Launcher, Gmail, calendar, clock, ringtones, wall papers, camera, gallery, keyboard, and playstore 3.9.17. I found only one issue so far and its that the launcher doesn't show a tab in my settings so i can modify homescreen settings and whatnot. You can still use the original that comes with the ROM though. Its pretty cool so check em out and let me know if you see the same issue i did or any others and try to post what ROM your using and your kernal) if its different than the one that came with the ROM (ex//im using PA 2.53 Nov.4th with the KKX. 12 kernal) so others can help as best as possible.

Anything in there that's "note" worthy? and do you know if the stills durning video recording are working? TIA

Its not the video player that is broken its the recorder, it doesnt seem to be supported or something for some reason. I just download camera ICS for video recording and it works fine. The camera and gallery would be worth it to me but along with that you just get an updated version of Gmail and other google apps. It's cool if you're into staying up to date with the newest and greatest.

This one? The one that has the gapps listed in the first post? 4.2 gapps will just cause you problems with the camera, and it's a downgrade from the 4.1 camera.
Some one already posted this. No need for another thread.
A little search will take you very far

Is there a custom ROM with native video calling feature?

I recently got the stable cm9 release for s2 and I noticed the video calling option is missing. Is this the problem only with cm & aosp based ROMs? Would the Samsung based roms have this feature? I've Googled for it but found nothing specific to this phone. Can anyone help?

I used to use cm9 but I don't remember exactly whether there was native video call, but everything was fine, maybe you have enabled use only 2G settings in the settings.. Duh!! and maybe that's the problem, well all stock based custom roms do support video calling and I'm pretty sure most AOSP and AOKP do support video calling.
Edit : my bad, Only stock based roms does support video calling.

No I've unticked the save battery option. It is definitely on 3g network.
Can you please link me to a stable release I can try this out with? I am referring to the video call option that comes with the phone and contacts apps on stock rom. I read a post here on xda stating that custom roms don't have the patenting license to use native video calling. Can someone verify this?

I don't know my region doesn't have 3G so I can't try it out, but I am definitely sure that statement is wrong, I am using NeatRom and it definitely has video calling option, and I am sure such a basic feature will be in most roms. Maybe Pure Google based OS like cyanogenmod might have some limitations since after all they warned them to take out Google Apps from their Roms, but no Rom builder would ever remove important features from a stock rom, so try stock based custom roms like Omega, NeatRom.. Likewise...
Edit :It seems AOSP can't work with video calling, but stock based roms don't have these limitations.

Thanks I'll try neatrom first and then omega. But I am so happy with this stable cm9 release. Oh well.

If you're missing video calling, you might soon miss h/w decoding like that of stock based roms,
And eventually maybe wifi direct, radio etc.
Wifi Direct is the thing which is holding me with NeatRom. I've got a tab and file sharing, never gets easier and faster than with a wifi direct in a S2. But I will jump around though, too addicted to tweaks and customization.

No.
According to my information, android does not has native video calling support.
All the oem's add it as an optional feature on their devices.
So cm9 wont have native video calling support.
If u want to use video calling, u can use stock based custom roms such as omega v23...

Yes mate, I think he gets that, after all we came to a conclusion and he has decided on flashing NeatRom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, well, I checked some stock based roms but the latest ones are huge files, especially the one everyone is recommending here, Omega. My 3g plan allows only 2gb download per month, and if I download 650 mb file, that too with its inherent bugs, I'd be doomed.
So I went into the pages trying to search for a stable stock rom based release, and I found this, (sorry, too lazy to search the LINK, google it)
--VK--ICS-XWLPX-V5.4.5-Ripple-Final
And I've been using it for 2 days and not even a single force close or reboot or whatever. No bugs, and this is a first for me for any rom I used. Also, better battery than the stock rom too. And the customizations look awesome as well. Can be used as a daily drive. All for just 300 MB. I'll stop hunting for a while now. Thanks for your help, people.

Have you had a look at Chameleon ROM? I've never personally used it so can't give you an exact run-down. It is stock based, with all AOSP apps apart from FM radio and Camera (& some background apps).
Give it a go & see what you think.

[Q] What's the latest ROM that has no camera issues?

Hi,
The 4.2 and 4.3 roms (Pac) have camera issues.
What's the latest rom version that the camera works fine, and the system isn't so laggy, that you are aware of and can help me decide.
Thanks
Stock. 4.2 doesn't really have camera problems though.

As far as I know, everything but the stock based gingerbread ROMs have rear camera issues
The most support for the camera I know of is one ICS rom which can take pictures fine, but has a buggy preview and many other bugs
I also think that the video camera works on JB roms

What do you mean tiny issues, camera? Really I don't mind if it's not perfect, I just need the camera to work somehow, so you still say stock is the latest??
Any other ROMs preferably ICS (supporting Chrome) are also considerable, I hope I didn't piss anyone off with this sentence.

If you have a TI backup from CM10 you can restore the app from there instead. Look for the app "Google Bookmarks Sync" (com.google.android.syncadapters.bookmarks) and restore. I've checked mine and the amount of permissions it has is crazy.

Chrome for mobile needs some serious work. Whenever I have it installed, it screws up my phone's ability to save my choice for default app. Everytime I open a link, youtube video, etc., it asks me what to use, 'Internet' 'Chrome' or 'Youtube' yes I cleared cache and data for all 3 apps. It's either a TouchWiz glitch or a chrome glitch, either way stock browser + this apk = awesome. No clue why 'Internet' sync is missing in KitKat, very odd.
This apk worked perfectly for me on Verizon Note 2, i605 running KitKat 4.4.2. Thanks OP :good:
