I recently got the stable cm9 release for s2 and I noticed the video calling option is missing. Is this the problem only with cm & aosp based ROMs? Would the Samsung based roms have this feature? I've Googled for it but found nothing specific to this phone. Can anyone help?

I used to use cm9 but I don't remember exactly whether there was native video call, but everything was fine, maybe you have enabled use only 2G settings in the settings.. Duh!! and maybe that's the problem, well all stock based custom roms do support video calling and I'm pretty sure most AOSP and AOKP do support video calling.
Edit : my bad, Only stock based roms does support video calling.

No I've unticked the save battery option. It is definitely on 3g network.
Can you please link me to a stable release I can try this out with? I am referring to the video call option that comes with the phone and contacts apps on stock rom. I read a post here on xda stating that custom roms don't have the patenting license to use native video calling. Can someone verify this?

I don't know my region doesn't have 3G so I can't try it out, but I am definitely sure that statement is wrong, I am using NeatRom and it definitely has video calling option, and I am sure such a basic feature will be in most roms. Maybe Pure Google based OS like cyanogenmod might have some limitations since after all they warned them to take out Google Apps from their Roms, but no Rom builder would ever remove important features from a stock rom, so try stock based custom roms like Omega, NeatRom.. Likewise...
Edit :It seems AOSP can't work with video calling, but stock based roms don't have these limitations.

Thanks I'll try neatrom first and then omega. But I am so happy with this stable cm9 release. Oh well.

If you're missing video calling, you might soon miss h/w decoding like that of stock based roms,
And eventually maybe wifi direct, radio etc.
Wifi Direct is the thing which is holding me with NeatRom. I've got a tab and file sharing, never gets easier and faster than with a wifi direct in a S2. But I will jump around though, too addicted to tweaks and customization.

No.
According to my information, android does not has native video calling support.
All the oem's add it as an optional feature on their devices.
So cm9 wont have native video calling support.
If u want to use video calling, u can use stock based custom roms such as omega v23...

Yes mate, I think he gets that, after all we came to a conclusion and he has decided on flashing NeatRom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, well, I checked some stock based roms but the latest ones are huge files, especially the one everyone is recommending here, Omega. My 3g plan allows only 2gb download per month, and if I download 650 mb file, that too with its inherent bugs, I'd be doomed.
So I went into the pages trying to search for a stable stock rom based release, and I found this, (sorry, too lazy to search the LINK, google it)
--VK--ICS-XWLPX-V5.4.5-Ripple-Final
And I've been using it for 2 days and not even a single force close or reboot or whatever. No bugs, and this is a first for me for any rom I used. Also, better battery than the stock rom too. And the customizations look awesome as well. Can be used as a daily drive. All for just 300 MB. I'll stop hunting for a while now. Thanks for your help, people.

Have you had a look at Chameleon ROM? I've never personally used it so can't give you an exact run-down. It is stock based, with all AOSP apps apart from FM radio and Camera (& some background apps).
Give it a go & see what you think.

So I'm kinda new to the rom stuff.
I'm currently intersted in vanilla android rom as I really dig the way it looks and how it functions.
Is there a vanilla android rom that supports:
1) fm radio
2) tv out via mhl
3) burst shot option in camera and some other cool camera options
I may sound like a noob haha but I really want to know because I saw that most roms don't support this, or maybe all of the roms don't support it?
Looking forward to your answers
Unfortunately those options are not supported. Those are known issues with CM10 ROMs and AOSP mate

I see.. so your're telling me there is no vanilla rom out there that supports the things I've specified.
hmm is there any other rom (I don't care which type) that supports some of these features?

I'm using InsertCoin and can confirm that radio and camera burst mode works fine. If you're asking about an AOSP ROM then I'm afraid I can't answer.

There are AOSP ROMs that support fm radio, they usually specify in the thread what to download for that, but other than that option the rest isn't supported yet. But you can try any other Samsung based custom rom to get the things you listed

Hi Guys
I've just installed a new super lite ROM which seems pretty much perfect EXCEPT i'm missing two features of Samsung's "bloat"ware that I really like:
Blocking Mode
Stay Awake
I've tried Googling and failed miserably to locate these so, can anyone tell me where i can get these please? (Yes I know there are alternatives but i'd like to stay with apps I am happy with and that work for me)

Of they are only apks & libs you could extract them from a stock Rom and put them into yours I guess.

What is the ROM based on?
Is it Sammy or an AOKP based ROM?
If it's Samsung Based, I could take a Titanium Backup of it and send it across to you.

Guess I'll have to look for market place alternatives then.

There is no single perfect rom for everyone.. Everyone is different and has different needs or "cravings"
Thats also why there's so many custom roms out there, to fit your needs (sometimes) If you cant find one, go with stock or learn to make your own.
Twitter's video snippet ap, Vine, just launched in the Android market. Unfortunately, so far it's been crashing on the custom roms I've tried it on (Jamie's Revolt and SuperNexus). I was wondering if anyone's had any success with the app on their phones. If so, please share which rom you are running.
Thanks.
The reviews are pretty negative regarding this appp -- two stars.
But lt looks like the developer just fixed crash problems for the S2 using OS 4.1.2 so I'm guessing it may be a while before it works smoothly with 4.2.2.
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
This is not the app. It is the acual Rom that's the problem. CM based roms have no support to 3rd party apps when it comes to the camera. So snapchat, instagram, vine, etc will not work with 4.2.2 roms. If you want the camera based apps to work, you'll have to go over to 4.1.2. (Blackstar jelly or padawan rom.)

Ahh... interesting. I'll give it a test and report back.
OPGT was 100% correct. The app works great (or at least as intended) with Padawan JB V2. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, the app sucks. It's share features don't work as described either. And it's missing facebook integration.

Don't know or care what Vine is, but apps that use the Camera work just fine on 4.2.2 for me. Camera Zoom FX, Grocery King, QR Code Scanners, etc etc.

Cyanogenmod issue need help !!!
i recently installed the Cyanogenmod 10.1 on my GT-I9305 but after the i realized that the old storage is gone "internal storage" so it says that i am using more than 50% from it even it's a clean install meaning the old data are still there and i am not able to see them , so i went to the recovery mode and the old files and date were there and a new folder with name (0) has the new apps and data , so the question here is how can i view the old data storage so i can move them to the new one , or to view them on my computer , i am new in XDA so i couldn't post it on the Cyanogenmod forum . thanks in advance
This is not I9305 forum .

Personally , I am very happy with SlimBean (AOSP) as it delivers speed and gives me all features I want. The only thing I miss is the AllShare app for my AllShare Cast Dongle. Regarding camera, the AOSP 2.6 app gives most of the Samsung TW features, for Samsung S Planner, I use the stock Google Calendar App and for Music I use Poweramp, maybe try them, Poweramp got a free version as well.
After trying every rom on earth I think the perfect rom for me would be an officially stock rom (debloated) with an overclocked kernel (and more) and the T-mobile theme engine. I understand that as these stock roms become more complex it takes longer to make the custom roms bug free. It would be great if a group out there start making roms with just a custom kernel and theme engine added. You can call the rom T.E.K. Rom short for Theme Engine Kernel Rom. Can somebody do it. Also can someone add the T-Mobile theme engine to the SnowJB rom, I would much appreciated it?

Sorry, due to multiple XDA threads for the subject. I mistakenly asked on different(wrong) thread but I meant to ask here because the title says perfect rom. I may get same or different answer depending on who is looking at. Wouldn't mind suggestion from CM11 users; even not stock but if current nightly very stable running on all cylinder.
