Gmail/facebook not pushing notifications - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is it just me or is syncing not working? Just noticed this today
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app

I don't have any issues with Facebook Sync, but I have with Gmail since the most recent update. As far as I can sort out, I think it is more of an issue with the Gmail app and is not specific to the S4. I think it has to do with the new tabs sorting emails. If it doesn't land in your primary inbox, you don't get notified. Which, as I am typing this, the logic of that is dawning on me....

[Q] yahoo mail issues

Hi everyone, total noob here. I have been unable to attach photos to email using the yahoo app on my vibrant. It says it's attached, but never actually sends the pic. It works fine in gmail. Anyone else have this problem. Is this just a problem with the app, or related to the phone? Yahoo, also only sporadically sends me notifications of new emails, and often they are a day late.
Thanks
Mine does this too. It maybe that the files are too large, or at least thats what I suspect. I havent found a work around yet. I was considering a pic shrinking app to try that. Just havnt made it around to it yet. I'm too busy trying to figure out this Android Debug Bridge deal. I cant get it to work on the computer. Damn windows!
yeah I would think it might be the file size as well, except that gmail has no problem sending the same file.
Try K9 mail, I use it fire all my email needs. It even works for a regular hotmail account. NOTE: I don't think push works for Yahoo.

Maybe it sends alerts for spam?¿

Update,
If anyone still care's, I've been using mail droid lately from the market. So far so good. Its free. It downloads and sends pics. And also pushes e-mail notifications instantly, just like my old crack berry! I was actually starting to miss that. Fyi guys.

I myself have used K9 and have many issues not getting my mail, freezing, tried uninstalling but the same problem
Any other mail programs worth using?

[Q] Motoblur Facebook contacts not working?

Is anyone else having an issue where the Motoblur Facebook functionality doesn't actually work? It won't import/match up contacts at all and doesn't even show any information under the social networking app. It will, after a few hours, notify me on unread messages, but that's it.
If you are having this issue, has anyone found a fix for it?
Running official Gingerbread.
Had the same prob with darkside rom till I flashed the blur fix since your saying your using stock I don't understand

It confuses me, too. Yesterday, on one attempt, it actually added 9 Facebook contacts before stopping. Every other attempt has resulted in complete failure. Oddly enough, I can still post statuses to Facebook with the Social Networking app when the account is added, so it's definitely working to some degree.

[Q] Disabling GMail app (no root) - Solved

Hey all,
Can't believe I am actually interested in disabling GMail.
But the standard "Mail" app seems to have a nicer UI than the Gmail app. Especially since it has dedicated Gmail settings.
But how do I disable the gmail app (can't be uninstalled...yet)? Obviously without root, and not sure it's worth the trouble to temp root.
It's just that every email received at Gmail gives me two separate notifications...

The best I can think of (without rooting) is turning off notifications for Gmail so you don't get harassed by two alerts.

That's really all you need to do.
I turned off the gmail notification the first day I had the thing for the same reason.

FWIW, the dedicated Gmail settings in the Sense mail app are POP3 settings. In other words, every email will show up on your phone as unread, even if you have read it on another device or the web interface.

Thanks for this. I did disable notifications for the Gmail app, which worked like a charm.
As to the pop3 mail, I did not get an inbox full of unread mail when I set it up.
Perhaps the Sense mail has been improved? I am familiar with what you are describing, but that is not the behavior I am seeing.

This issue happened for me on my Rezound, so we are talking about the same Sense version. When I set it up, I didn't get an inbox full of unread messages either, but every message I got from then on wouldn't get marked in Sense mail as unread unless I viewed it from within that app. So, for example, I could get a new gmail message in the gmail app/sense mail, and view it in the gmail app/web interface, but even after refreshing the sense mail it still shows up as unread. Eventually I had to remove the gmail account in sense mail and set it up manually as an IMAP.
An HTC rep responded to an email of mine and basically told me that manual IMAP was the only way to get around the issue. But kudos to you if everything is working!

Exchange email and calendar eating battery

Does anyone here have an exchange account on their note, and has noticed that on occasion the email and calendar apps are eating the battery?
This is the second time this has happened to me. As you'll see by my screenshot, the usage is even higher than the display and is keeping the phone awake. This happened to me this past weekend and I deleted the account and re-added it. That seemed to clear up the issue but now it's back.
Anyone else experience this?

I had the issue with email. I just went into settings and adjusted the sync schedule. I basically turned email off while I was asleep. That worked wonders for me.

This happens to me all the time. I think it is an issue that Android has when syncing to exchange servers. mine consistently will lose sync and I get repeated unable to connect messages so basically exchange just keeps the phone awake in constant attempt to sync. I've tried other email exchange apps and they work for a few days or more but then the issue starts up again. This was a problem on my epic 4g, evo4g and my Samsung intercept. I think your best bet is to do what you've been doing, monitor when your phone is acting up, remove your exchange account and add it back in again. That's pretty much what I do now. I wish sometimes that I didn't have to use my phone for work. Fyi with touchdown email clients app this has never been an issue. Try the 30 day trial. I just didn't want to spend the money on the app.

Install CPU Spy - I'll bet that you'll see it is keeping the CPU on a high speed and not entering deep sleep. Then kill the email app via the Task Manager and go back to see if that solves the CPU.

1st post, hi!
So you have your calendar syncing with exchange?!? How?
I have an exchange email synced and set to push. I haven't had any issues with poor battery life or over heating of the phone.

I'm assuming that you are using exchange sync'ed. I do, getting e-mail fine, calendar just isn't working. After a little google fu', there are multiple reports of the same thing. If yours is working, it maybe an exchange issue on my end then.
Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.
Thanks.

I just double checked and it says my calendar is synced with exchange. I also know that I am able to accept meeting requests from within exchange emails and it adds it to my my calendar.
Now I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I use Jorte as my main calendar which is also synced to my Google calendar.

I have Exchange working just fine. Does not seem to be a battery hog.

Android E-Mail vs. GMail Apps

Am I the only person that hates the Gmail App from the market and would rather use the email app?
Right now I've got both a Samsung Galaxy Gio running CM7 and an LG Eclypse (aka MyTouch Q) running CM9 and for both of them I far prefer e-mail to gmail. Although they're very similar as far as the basic UI goes, I find that the gmail app has quite a few problems with attachments and images. Sometimes it will show me the text of an email for about 2 seconds and then go blank white. I have none of these problems with E-Mail.
I just want to see who else is like-minded on this... Thoughts? Comments?
I used to have the white display issues on both Gmail and Email.
I found that if I force closed the app and started it again, the problem disappeared.
I haven't had this problem again since moving to JB.

You'll love K9-Mail. It's based on the original Android email app.
I have to send attachments through my gmail app because my android mail has problems sending attachments via Microsoft Exhange Server....

GMail is a lot better. It groups all emails with same subject in 1 line. It's huge advantage
I like the android one, its a lot more simple. Gmail sometimes take forever to sync, I gave up on that thing a long time ago.

I've used K-9 Mail for almost as long as I've had Android devices and have not once looked back. Seriously, try it out if you haven't already.
