Search around. 2 new methods were just released. Worked great for me on 2 DNAs that were on 2.06. Try the original android development forum before asking.

Moonshine and revone methods were both just released within the last two days, so if you give them a try, you're sure to get s-off. Of you're looking to gain root in the process, moonshine will probably be your best bet as revone is just unlocked bootloader and s-off.
Thank you very much

Cool.
Looks promising although since I've already unlocked via HTC dev what's the advantage of s off..as I understand we can already flash radios etc..also it requires root..how is that possible if u didn't unlock with HTC dev
I'm rooted but not unlocked with HTCdev. They are 2 different things.

why would i want to pay for insurance? my phone is covered under 1 year warranty. i change phones every year anyways. i never buy warranty for anything
So does this essentially unlock the bootloader and give s-off?
So can I run this with an unrooted phone? I was reading the pre requisite and said you needed to be rooted/temp, which doesn't that mean htcdev unlocked?
I want to avoid htcdev unlock...

Its basically what every has already done except your phone will say S-off instead of S-on....no additional features. U can do everything u were able to do before.

Cool. Once someone has a write up or script to relock, unroot, unlock again with s-off and reroot so i don't get that red text on boot let me know. That would be the only reason i care about this.
Hopefully the devs didn't waste a good exploit that could have been used on a phone that needed it.
How is it that we cannot root our device but yet there is ROMs for it. Don't u need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM

It was rootable for about 2 weeks after launch, then HTC pulled bootloader unlock support from the htcdev site... most likely at the urging of Verizon. People that rooted early got lucky, others missed the boat. But the dev community for this phone is outstanding so far. Unlock and root will be back one way or another. Believe that.
Sent from my HTC Incredible 4G
We did have root via htcdev.com but they shut down support for it, presumably because of pressure from Verizon. There are some great devs working to get us s-off...no guarantees but let's keep our fingers crossed

I was gonna get the phone within the first 2 weeks but u didn't have an upgrade available yet. I had the root method downloaded and read over the instructions multiple times exited to root it when I got it and now just found out u can't root it any more, I was very disappointed about this but hopefully we get another root method soon.

I keep getting this error code.
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed
it sounds like HTC blocked the DNA unlocking for now
Any ideas?
the jcase exploit still requires htc-dev which is unavailable anymore.
Are you choosing "other devices" when going through the unlock process? If you choose DNA, it will not work.
The jcase exploit gets around the block. That's what the exploit is for...

so you are saying do the jcase exploit and then it will work? are you sure? because I have seen people do it using only htc-dev
the reason why i didn't want to try the exploit is because it looks a little risky.

You have to do jcases method before htc dev unlock. That's the only way it will work. Our device isn't supported through htc dev unlock, hence why it's saying that your MID is unsupported. Using jcases method we change our phones MID so that we can use htc's unlock method.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
HTC dev unlock only worked before the phone was released. A day or 2 prior to release Verizon pulled the plug on it.
The jcase exploit is what allows us to unlock our phone.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Like others said Verizon pulled the DNA but they let people who had the phone before hand because most had s-off anyways.....the exploit spoofs your cid to trick HTC dev into letting.you unlock

How to tell if DNA has the OTA update?
Thinking of purchasing a used DNA (coming from a Gnex), and getting very intimidated by all the threads on rooting.
Looks like Moonshine is where it's at for this phone, but can someone tell me how where to look to see if the phone has
the OTA update already? A screenshot would be greatly appreciated but I'll take what I can get.

Doesn't Moonshine require the bootloader be unlocked before it will work? I just bought a used DNA and it has the latest OTA, so I seem to be at an impasse. Any help with where to go from here would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I'm not using Sense so no screenshot, but go to settings and at the bottom look for "About Phone" and one of the numbers should be 2.06...
Most likely the updates will automatically give you a popup when found, or you can manually check for updates.

Moonshine will S-Off and unlock your bootloader all in one snap. I recommend factory resetting the phone before attempting to rule out any issues. It will work, I've moonshined 8 different htc devices and all worked 100% without issue.
Hey guys,
My One Max will be here wednesday. Found a good deal on Swappa and decided I miss Sense too much to remain loyal to Samsung.
I do have a couple questions. With all convoluted postings I can not find any basic details I need.
1. Is this unlockable via HTC Dev?
2. Whats the skinny on preferred method of unlocking?
I dont care so much about S-OFF unless its one of those type that prevent custom kernels from flashing. Then I will go S-OFF.
What do you guys have for best practices on getting this unlocked?
I am pretty damned amped up to get this big bastard!
Saaaaaaweeet.
I found that the rumrunner* s-off was the easiest way to root and unlock the Verizon version. Did not require anything from htcdev.com.

Hellz yeah!
Soff and rooted my 2 Verizon Max with rumrunner. Other versions had issues with rumrunner so had to use firewater.
Ie no unlocking bootloader through htcdev for verizon version. Have to soff, unlock and root with rumrunner/firewater. Can s-on after that if you really want.

So let me get this straight then..
Rum runner is best to get S-Off.
You dont need to be unlocked for rumrunner?
Once S-Off the normal rules apply? Can unlock bootloader and relock it using super CID like all other HTC phones?
And thanks guys!

You dont need to be unlocked for rumrunner with the verizon version. All other versions you are supposed to unlock with htcdev before soff. Rumrunner soff, unlocks bootloader and roots verizon version.
You can supercid once soff if you want. As you know supercid is to flash ruus from other versions onto your version (mainly for international gsm versions). You likely wont want to flash other versions on a verizon Max.
Sprint or Verison Scros...
Ahhhh... Max Venom injection! Much better now...
Sir, if you are getting the sprint model then
You need to unlock it using htc dev and then run rumrunner .
If you are getting a verizon model ,
Then just run the rumrunner it will take care of everything
Verizon
One last question before I close this thread...
Is rumrunner restricted to any specific hboot version?
And thanks for the info guys. Makes it a lot quicker. I dont like rootiung and unlocking any more than the next guy. I just love makin' the ROMS!

For Verizon, rumrunner seems to be the only option that works irrespective of the hboot (hope my memory is right)
