[Q] aokp/aosp/cm gaming - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Just wanna ask something. Is there any issues from the roms that is based on aokp/aosp/cm to the gaming? Because what i play is csr racing. When I play it on that roms, its a bit laggy. However when I play it on sammy based roms, it is so smooth. Same cpu governor settings. Already tried it on several aokp/aosp/cm based roms and all of them is same. Laggy on csr racing. The game is 3D.

Freeze on HD games on ICS

Hi, first of all im a AOSP and AOKP rom user since i updated to ics I only tried sammy ICS once (dxlp7) I know its outdated many new release now a days from sammy guys.
Got several issues on playing games on AOSP and AOKP roms it freezes a lot with continues repeating sound and some games doesnt even work like riptide gp.
My question is does latest sammy ICS roms (dxlp9 or xwlp9) has the same freezing issues while playing hd games
Does riptide gp works on sammy ics?
Does temple run freeze with repeating sounds?
Thanks a lot btw i move back to checkROM but i missed ics ui and features.

I'm using WanamLite 11.2 XWLP8 Base, and yes Riptide does tend to freeze every now and then, but sometimes i can play for almost an hour and it plays smooth. The freezing has never been bad enough for me to be bothered by it.
Not every HD games work fine on ics, only the latest version run well.
I played temple run on ics specially im on wanamlite v11.5, no freeze at all.
Update to the latest version of riptide gp, maybe it will work.

Actually the problem with temple run is that it is based on unity 3d engine.... and unity still doesn't supports ics.... the devs know the problem but they cannot do anything until unity gets android 4.0.3 support..

On wanamlite is there an option to hide or display am/pm or hide the clock on the status bar?

Im on wanamlite since v11.1, never find a way to hide the clock. But there is a way to hide the PM/AM, just check the 24hour format setting..

Great that Temple runs works on stock ICS without freeze, how about riptide GP anyone tried that game on stock ICS roms?

Well,I've seen a looooot of problems with these custom roms ,gamewise, I haven't tried these games with stock ics though,I don't like stock ics that much so it really does suck that we can't play hd games,I'll give it a try and will come back as soon as I discover something new, let's help each other here, what do you guys think? I really want my sgs2 to be able to okay games, it sucks that having such an amazing phone we aren't able to play quality games, right?

Games Crashing on S3

i have recently downloaded Asphalt 7 & Real Racing 2 for my international variant s3. however, everytime i start these games....the game crashes before it even hits the menu.....can it be because i am running custom rom based on jelly bean leaks? i am currently running foxhound's latest 0.2 rom
Flash latest DLI6 Leak and you wont need a custom rom... Working flawless so far here!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
do games work properly on it?
The only time I've had problems with games was with custom kernels.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Yup, it´s probably because of the custom kernel.
those games may or may not be compatible with jb roms. so unless you havent changed anything in your rom you have to wait for an update if the problem is persistent
Oh ya.... Those supercharger scripts would also cause my games to run like crap or FC.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I'm running fox hound 1.4.3 ics, with galaxsih (normal) its superb, it runs better than the iphone version.
Supercharger does mess things up but seeing as your on jelly bean your kernel should be stock right. I don't think custom kernels are out for it yet.

can anyone give me links to a proper working SD data for real racing 2? the 1s i downloaded just keeps crashing.... i changed roms & kernels but to no avail
i get this error m3g rr_track18.m3g break here.....
it works great on my phone. the only game i find laggy is the Brothers in Arms 2 where it takes so long to start, takes so long to load and takes so long to exit. and when it exits my live wallpaper just disappears and about 5sec redraw of drawer/home screen.
download real racing in samsung apps i downloaded mine there maybe it will work on you.
I am having the same issue with asphalt and MC3 on CM9 with stock cm kernel and siyah kernel.
I have seen on other threads that chainfire 3d might help but it says it's froyo/gingerbread only.
Any other suggestions? I'd rather keep cm but would like to play these games.

Im tellin ya there is something wrong with those foxhound jellybean roms. They never able to handle all my apps when I restore them all it always crashes the phone, freezes etc... Soon as I flash stock JB and root it with Siyah Kernel works perfect.

Anyone who tells you ICS is good for gaming-wise, well, they aren't that wise after all *no offense
What I would recommend is CM7.2, since it's GB and it's Cyanogen, it offers more Performance than normal GB did, it support Swap or zRam too which is ideal for gaming too. If you miss ICS animation, no worries, they've port-ed it to CM7.2
I just want people to share -.- . What do they think.
If you want to play games on ICS, Jelly Bean driver is a must. It improves a lot FPS. :good:
I have tried almost every rom here and tried to play games after i installed all my apps (only 30 apps including games). The only rom i have tried that has no problem on playing temple run is the nxtbread rom, a gb based rom. I only play temple run and subway surfer so i don't have any idea on other games. 2nd best rom for gaming for me is the good old cm9. Maybe cm7 will be better but i haven't tried it. But sadly even on the nxtbread rom, it lags on subway surfer.
Sent from my ST25i
Oh and by the way, i used aire's gb kernel on nxtbread and sirkay's latest 587 kernel on ics roms. I oc to 1.4ghz, performance gov and tried every io scheduler available too.
Well i am the creator of my rom so of course i am going to recommend mine. But I have tons of games on my phone(40) including asphalt 7 Nova 3 and NFS most wanted and all are runing smooth on OptiKernel preformance(xKernel 9.587 - c) and i use smatrassv2 cfq and 1017Mhz

ICS VS GINGERBREAD (gaming on p500)

Today we have stable ICS .
its smoother than gingerbread in User interface.but I felt that it is not good for gaming .
Some games started lagging after installing ics which games had never lagged in gingerbread ...

I use genetICS as a daily driver with chainfire 3d and caf kernel and gaming for me is pretty relaxed..than again I'm not really into gaming. I'll occasionally play a game so when I do, I have a good kernel with chainfire and a high OC setting of 768/480 noop performance

GB continues being the right option to play games.
At least on my side, GB uses less ram than ICS. I also think the kernels also make a difference. There's a lot of "gaming" kernels for GB (my choice would either be PP 1.7 or franco's) while you only have two kernels for ICS, both of which do not seem to be tailored for gaming.

Well, I couldn't really tell because I'm not a phone gamer (I play Switch, Angry Birds and other things to kill time), but it's not that bad. Switch is veeery smooth, Angry Birds doesn't lag at all, so... I would say it's bad for gaming. Maybe only for games that need a lot of RAM.
PD: In GB y had OC and used CF3D, and still some games were kind of slow compared to ICS. So, that's it: if we had some more RAM, maybe... who knows?

Galaxy Ace gaminig ability

Hi, Ijust watched on YouTube a Russian guy who can play some 3D races like Nedd for Speed Shift, Raging Thunder 2, and GTA 3, and some more. I tried them on my Galaxy Y, which hardware is the same as in Ace 5830i, and Some of them I cann't install at all or those which I can install lags like hell. Is this possible that 5830 has that much better hardware than 5830i (and Galaxy Y) that it makes such big difference? Those games on 5830 run so smooth and in stock 2.2 android. What if I put 2.3.6? Will this work same way or what?
well i had read somewhere that the games run smooth on 2.2. After they upgraded their device, it lagged a lot.
However you can even play Nova on Ace-i with CF3D.

Oh! Is that so? Anyway, having 2.2 on 5830 make it respond better to any daily operations, except gaming? I asked about games earlier but I won't play games. I was just curious if 5830's GPU is that better from 5830i 's so it work better in anything.
Well i found GB to be better than Froyo, but i installed a custom ROM (The Ultimatum in my case). And now I can play Temple Run 2 with 0 lags. With CF3D ofcourse.

Wait a few more days and ACE users can run any game without almost any lag. I will release a Custom Rom improve for those who want to play hard games like subway surfers, nova, etc.
