Phone dead, battery overheating, won't boot - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

One day when the battery went down i put my phone on charging, after some time came an error msg popup..
' your battery temperature is getting high force shutdown'
when i switched of my phone and rebooted it doesn't boot..
now the phone is dead..
guess the battery maybe drained. dont hav any alternate battery.. tried another charger , no luck..
tried pressing vol up key+home+power, no luck..
while connected to charger, phone heats up near the camera, under the sim slot.. (heats up even when connected without battery)
on warranty period, going for the service center.. is there anything else i can do?

If you have warranty I would just go that route. Even if you can bring it back to life it may have caused some damage to the internals and would probably crap out again.

yes im worried abt the internals, it heats up like an oven, seems lyk the boardn is shorted inside somewhr.. im goin for the warranty, but it would take time i guess..
did anyone else hav the same problem?

Mine also heats up near the camera a fkin lot..
LG L9 P765
If im replying you..then be a good bytch.....

Got my mainboard replaced from Lg service center.. got it workin, but now i hav noise and disturbance during call...

LG Optimus L9 P760 can of course overheat itself then force shutdown.
Instructions:
1. Wait until your device cools down completely.
2. Plug charger in. In case your battery was entirely empty, after plugging the charger in, your screen may not respond for a while. It's because your device hasn't got enough voltage to turn screen on. Only thing you need to do is start charging your phone and even if it doesn't seem like it's being charged, leave it that way. After 10-15 minutes press home button to see if screen is back alive. If yes, you're fine. If not, take it to service.
I hope this helps.

Prophet G4 Absolutely DeAd!! Please Help!!

I have a Prophet G4 and I had always have problems with it. I always sent it to the customer service and they fixed it, but it's way too expensive.
Well, the problem now is that it is absolutely dead! it doesn't turn on, it doesn't enter into bootload, it doesn't makes hard resets and when I plug it to charge, it doesn't turn the orange light that turns on when charging. I don't really know if it is really charging but the light doesn't turn on.
I'v tryed everything! Taking out the battery, soft reset, hard reset, bootload, and it doesn't respond to nothing! It is absolutely DEAD!
I did nothing to it internally...I did not update the ROM...I didn't touch the registry...I didn't drop it..I don't remember doing anything for it to do this to me!! :'(
Can someone help me please, this really annoys me!
Try replacing the battery... maybe it resolves the problem dunno.
Same problem for me.
I've left my XDA Neo on the table when i went to sleep, and in the morning I realised, it's not turning on, and the same problems listed above! Battery was around 50%!
Help me! :'(
You need the original charger to awake it.
Just let it plugged in for some time (at least 30min) an maybe replug 1 or 2 times.
Then the red light will appear again and you can boot.
Maybe it's about the battery~~~

I am sure it is the battery..Bay a new battery, and make sure not to run it dry..

The problem is that a HTC device needs power to switch on loading. If the battery is completely drained it doesn't work anymore. To fix it you can do the following. Take care, overloading may cause your battery to explode. So you will do this on your own risc.
Take a 5 Volt source and connect it to the + and - of the battery for arround 30 seconds. From this moment take care of the temperature of the battery. It should not get so warmer as 30 celcius. Put the battery back in the HTC and it picks up loading again.
I rescued a number of HTC devices this way.

Failing that dont try and charge it from your USB it wont work. You must as pointed out use the original charger. The above does work but like Jaddie says be carefull!

Phone dead. Repair? But its Rooted!

Hi.
I've got a Galaxy S2 (international version, unlocked). Its worked fine until now.
Ive had it lying around for a bit after getting the S3 and thought about selling it. So i checked it out again. Battery empty so i started charging It - charding battery screen was displayed - so fine.
Then I noticed some dust in the speaker grill and I wanted to clean that out. I used my breath and a needle to get it out.
Afterwards it did not power on anymore, the screen remains black and no sound. But I did not even poke around that hard?! Can it be damaged just from that bit of cleaning?
I tried letting it lying around for a while, then pressing the power button without battery to drain all remaining electricity and finally tried both soft reset (power button for about 10 seconds) and hard reset (power button and middle button for about 10 seconds).
It did not turn on.
Then I tried turning on with my usb jig. No luck.
I tried charging the battery again (since it was about empty). No change.
Since the phone has 2 year warranty I think I considered sending it for repair. But I remembered that I had rooted it. They will not repair if its rooted I hear.
Is there any other thing I can try?
I assume this is a hardware error and a physical repair is necessary (PCB replacement?)?
Or would a JTAG suffice?
I'd even consider doing a repair myself (getting replacement part and doing a peplacement myself) if I knew whats was wrong...
Please give advice!
can you boot into download mode ?
try to get another battery. it might be just a dead battery.
I cannot boot into download mode.
While it may be a dead battery I would assume connecting it to charge via USB (and I did check that the cable is ok and does charge by checking with my galaxy s3) would allow turning it on as it originally did (got into the charging mode where it displays the battery level). It does not do that anymore.
have you tried using another battery?

I bet another battery works, this battery proberly needs some boosting to get to life again... after boosting it starts charging again...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I asked a collegue at work to charge my battery who also had an s2. So the battery definitely works on a properly working s2.
I used that battery on my s2 and it still will not boot up or show any signs of operation.
Is there a way to find out what component is damaged?
I'd like to try and replace it, but that only makes sense if I know what component is the problem.
If you're not experienced at testing/working with microelectronics, you have no chance of fixing it yourself. You're more likely to completely trash the phone if you try. That you asked a question like that suggests you don't have the knowledge/experience required.
Do the smart thing & either see if it can be JTAG'd by a 3rd party repairer, or take your chances with Samsung/authorised repairer & hope they don't notice/don't care/can't tell it's been messed with.
The other issue is, how could anyone here possibly know what's wrong with the phone specifically ? We're not there with you looking over your shoulder as you take the phone apart & we certainly don't have x-ray vision to be able to see inside the phone over distance.

P760 wont turn on, wont charge

Out of the blue, phone went dead. I dont know why really. It honestly didnt get any moisture, or bad current, I never charged it via USB. I have drained it couple of times to zero battery but it charged after that. this time, it was at 22% wen I went to sleep, in the morning it was dead.
I know that this issue always resolves with: "use warranty" suggestions but I tried, and being that I live in a weird country that wont happen. Generic answers like "water damage" with the sticker still white and all that.
ADB doesnt see the phone, also.
anything anyone has to suggest other than telling me phone is dead (obvious) and to use warranty (which I cant) .. ? Please help, this is my first LG and maybe there is a solution that works
Have you tried :
hard reset - turn off your phone, press and hold Vol-, the home key, and the power for 8 seconds.
or
fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119090
Will try it in the morning (6-7 hours) as I hafe dissasembled and analzed the whole device internaly for possible rust or theoretical moisture from cold weather. Found None. Really hope this device isnt one of those that just die for no reason
battery might have gone dead. get it charged externally for few minutes and then try charging with phone. if it works for first time, then its time to change battery.
well, this is just a possibility.
for all you people, if you ever get in same situation:
Phone was moisture damaged. I didnt get it wet, but there are 2 possibilities:
1. a friend told me that all the shipped phones, compared to the air cargo phones, get damaged no matter how good protection is. If they are shipped to your country from the land of origin, they are most probably water damaged already. Being that I live in Serbia, and all the importers of goods use ships instead of air cargo (big price difference), my phone may be water damaged before ever turned on.
2. it was a ridiculous weather in Belgrade, with minus temperatures in March, so a simple condensation may have damaged the phone.
SOLUTION:
Service shops CAN repair the phone if it was moisture damaged instead of immersed, because air moisture damages only certain electrical circuits, instead of the whole board. My phone is at a service shop now, and the guy is inspecting the damaged circuit. It can be restored, and if the damage is high it would require replacement of the circuit which is kinda tricky cause it requires very similar board like the one LG L9 has, for harvesting.
If anyone maybe somehow finds a working SIM free motherboard for LG L9, please let me know cause I cant find it online. Just one ebay entry with "works but has issue" which I wont buy.

Not a battery issue. Tried different batteries. Thanks!

LG Optimus L9 P769 is not charging
My LG Optimus L9 P769 is not charging. I have used the same charger on other phones and it works. I removed the battery and charged it on an external charger and the phone works normally other than not charging.
I have done a hard reset after turning off the phone and pressing and holding Vol-, the home key, and the power for 8 seconds but that did not help!
As a last resort, I also replaced the Flex Cable Charging Port and Flex Cable Dock Connector using the part on the attached image but the phone still does not charge.
Can anyone suggest what I may do next to repair the phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

[Q] Phone doesn't turn on.

Hi guys,
I was attempting to pay my DTH bill through Paytm on my LG Optimus L9 P765 and the phone got stuck at the credit card info screen. I left it for 2 minutes like that and then pressed the power button for 10 seconds and the phone turned off. Now when I try to turn it on there is no LG logo .. I have tried pressing the buttons for hard reset and turning it on but no luck. The battery was at 95% when the phone was on. The phone doesn't even go into software update mode. I have removed the battery and re-inserted it .. still it doesn't turn on. I was running V10G firmware [rooted] with locked boot-loader. Help me guys..
Btw, the phone is getting hot even when it is switched off. The back panel temp must be around 35-36 degrees.
Does it start when plugged in?
Nope, just gets hot. No sign of turning on.

Well, if it gets hot even if it is switched off, I'll presume there's a hardware problem.
Take out the battery and have a look at it. Do you see any blisters, bubbles, loose foils/membranes or other loose or blown up spots on the battery?
Does the phone smell bad, burned or otherwise chemical?
Edit: You'd better keep the battery away from the phone from now on. Either it's a problem with the battery or there's a bricked component, especially in case it smells bad.
BTW - did you allow to automatically install updates OTA?

I can't see any problem with the battery except a straight line sort of thing running through it vertically towards its left side. The phone doesn't smell of any odour.. the top part of the phone (near the camera) gets hot if i put the battery on and connect it to the charger and then remove the charger after some time. I had done the OTA once.. a 16mb update.. it had got stuck at 13% for which I had to remove the battery and re-insert it. The update finished normally after that..

Well, that's the place my phone got hot whilst processing updates, too. Think it's the processor or sth like that but I was unable to find a photo of the mainboard layout of the L9 unfortunately.
Can you please try to connect it to your PC without battery and see if there's anything happening/appearing in the device manger (in case you use Win)? Perhaps try an "adb devices" just to be sure and in case you installed the LG drivers.
Bye.

It sounds like your phone is dead. Send it in for repair.

lgog not starting or charging.

lg e970 battery does not charge. when plugged into charger, few things happen
1. power button light blinks and then screen comes on(blank) and light stops blinking.
2. when power button is pressed once, black and white battery charging indicator shows for a few seconds and then screen goes blank, power button light starts blinking again. this loops.
3. when power button is pressed for a longer time, lg logo shows for a second and then screen goes blank again.
4. all this while the phone heats up rapidly, especially the screen and battery connector.
please help:crying:

This exact thing happened to me about a month ago. Whats happening is your battery is basically dead/at 0% or 1%. When you try and charge it the phone gets hot so it's not gonna charge.
What i did was literally put the phone on ice. You gotta get a bowl big enough to put a bunch of ice in, then put some kind of layer over that. Like a bag or foil. Something to keep your phone from getting wet. Now sit your phone on top of the ice and plug it into the charger. The phone is gonna slow charge and it'll take a couple hours to charge 4 or 5%. Wait 3 hours while keeping it on ice/charging it. Then take it off the charger and it should turn on. Now put it back on the charger and it'll charge normally. Idk how much of this made sense to you, but this worked for me after trying many other things.
Thank you so much. you have helped revive a dead phone. I followed your instructions to the letter and after three and a half hours found the phone to have charged to 60%.
The ice really worked. The heat wasn't allowing it to charge.

I'm glad yours worked out but my case is a little different. One night I was playing games for hours and hours and while I had the charger connected so it wont die on me and when I started to notice that it's getting pretty hot, I put it down and its still charging and let it charge overnight. When I woke up the phone won't turn on anymore. When I hold the power for a long time it would start blinking but the screen won't turn on or anything and when I let go of the power button it will stop blinking, power + volume up or down combinations has not effect or whatsoever.
So I decided to connect it to my laptop thinking that maybe it got brick and I'll restore with LGNPST but it won't even recognize the phone, no matter what button combinations I make. So I was thinking maybe the battery was bad so I bought a new battery, removed the screws &cover but when I installed the new battery the damn thing still won't turn on. So now I'm thinking maybe it's the charging port, I have replaced the charging/mic module as well and went through all the trouble of disassembling the phone BUT IT STILL WON'T TURN ON!
I don't know if this method will work but it won't hurt I guess but considering I have replaced the battery already and the phone had already cooled-down since it's been days that I can't turn it on. ANYONE OUT THERE CAN SHED SOME LIGHT PLEASE!
farewell LOG
well for trying almost everything even to the point of replacing parts I guess it's time for me to say goodbye to my beloved LG Optimus G. It's sad coz this phone is pretty powerful and good looking too, I dont even think I've unlocked the full potential of this phone but it served pretty damn well and unfortunately I think it's out of warranty already since I've had it for almost 2 years now.
So Sayunara LGOG!

I could probably help with your problem too if it's not too late. This same thing happened to my mom's phone(She has the LG Optimus G as well) My first guess was to replace her motherboard. I ordered her another optimus g from EBay that had a cracked screen and cracked back for $40(make sure it's an unlocked phone). The internal hardware was all in working order. I simply replaced the motherboard in hers with the one from Ebay, and it worked. If you haven't gotten rid of the phone yet you could try this. I found a teardown guide on youtube that made it really easy to remember where to disconnect and reconnect everything to the motherboard. The only downside to this is it's basically a new phone and anything not stored on your sd card will be gone. It's like a factory reset.
hey mate, wow I didnt think anyone would reply to my post anymore.. thanks for replying, anyway no I havent gotten rid of it yet though I already got a Galaxy S5 if I can fix it soon I can still return the S5 coz right now I'm not happy with it coz of the locked bootloader.
I was actually thinking of doing that since I've already gone through all troubles of replacing the mic/charging port module so why not just continue experimenting on it. I will follow your advice but do you know anywhere or anyone else I can find just like the one you got?
Your advice is greatly appreciated, thanks
