This kernel has been around for the Inc and the Evo. Now I'm bringing it to the N1 and the Desire!!
Great stuff, always nice to have more kernel choices
MOD : Can you post only Nexus One kernel on your post please (more readable)
Had been having some wifi issues this past week using cm7 nightly along with various kernels. Wifi was frequently dropping or just very slow. Spent most of Sunday screwing with my home network which seems stable now. I think comcast must have been doing something. however, my phone wifi was still poor. installed this kernel last night and so far phone is performing as it should on wifi. the difference was immediate. not sure whats going on. cant comment on battery life yet, but it's looking very good through this mornings use. Thank you!

I'm glad it's working for you, but that is strange... The only change I make to wifi from CM is undervolting it. And now that I think about it, I may have forgotten to bring that tweak over to the n1 and desire...
Can you summarize how your kernel differs from the others (CM, pershoot, wildmonks, redstar).

Versus the main CM kernel, this has unrestricted overclocking, HAVS, smartass, undervotling, sysfs interface and several other tweaks/improvements. I don't have a N1 and honestly dont know anything about the other kernels out there for it. The kernel started on the Inc and Evo, mostly around MIUI, and I was asked by a few people to bring it over to the N1 and Desire, so I figured I would post it up for everyone.
Hi all,
Been running this since 0800 this morning (its now 1800) no problems at all.
Can't say its faster or better on the battery for sure but its certainly no worse than CM stock.
Whats the smartass govenor? Just the same as on demand as it seems to replace it?
Oh, just one thing, although it has the option (in SetCPU) to go down to 128mhz, I've not seen it go lower than 245mhz which makes me wonder if its clocking down to 128 with the screen off.
Anyone else?

The on demand governor was removed to force the default to smartass (the default is usually set to on demand by the ramdisk and is not affected by setting the default in the kenrel), but the two are not similar. Smartass was built off the interactive governor.
As for the 128Mhz floor - that is something finicky about the smartass governor. It should drop to 128 on any other governor though.
Smartass Governor shows real potential...thanks for this!
what about the wonk?
From what I gather the wonk is due to something in CM7 kernel. I also noticed that it is absent from stock 2.3.3 and also absent from AOSP builds.
Has anyone tried CM7 with this kernel?
thanks for the N1 kernel.
I'll try ASAP.
I will try this kernel now, thanks for posting. New kernel cooks are always welcomed.
After about 18 hrs on this kernel, the results are pleasing.
Extremely stable on the Smartass Governor, which is surprising because I've had friends compile me kernels incorporating this governor, and the end result = unusable.
Battery life seems fantastic so far.
Clocked 128-998. No profiles.
Thank you again for this kernel.
Results on N1
I have been running this kernel for 24hrs at 128/1228 and it's been running great with smartass selected on my AT&T N1. I tried going even higher than 1228 but that causes it to crash immediately (I'm surprised it can even handle 1228.) Linpack is a little low at 23 compared to other kernels that can get up to 40. Quadrant also comes up behind at only 1051.
tried going at the highest setting & it crashed my N1 , BACK TO RESDTAR'S kernel .
Been using the kernel for a few hours, Kernel seems stable but definatly doesnt feel snappy.

Hello everybody, I'm opening the thread just to read opinions from you all about the kernels that are currently available.
The one I've been using is void #echo, which in my humble opinion with the combination of a tweaked deadline scheduler and a lionheart governor provides great performance, battery life and minimum lag whatsoever.
I do understand that it depends on needs which shall be used, however, I would like to know which one to you guys works smoother and provides better performance / battery life.
I always aim for performance over battery life (I didn't buy a SGSII to get poor performance )
In terms of battery life, I can get it up to 22~23 hours on battery, using WCDMA only / HSPA+ during day and enabling airplane mode during night.
Fast Dormancy disabled and deep sleep working correctly (XXKL1).
I don't like the complexity of siyah and to be good on batt you have to tweak it more with UV and thing like that ,wish is not my style to make trying/errors on my brand new 600$phone !
I tried speed mod wish is very great actually with great overall perform
void echo is the one Im trying right now ! since 2 days its feel very strong and good on battery with good performance on games without getting the phone very hot
neak is good but its more a copy/past of the overall coders over wish is good in one sense but its a bit laggy in game with lucrative mod but defenatly one of my favorite kernel out there ! Im waiting for 1.3 to let simone correct some bugs
Siyah is the tweakers' heaven. You can fine tune every last bit of your phone.
I personally love void, it feels very fast and has good battery life.
I tried NEAK for a short time and it seemed fine but quite many report lag in games(using on demand governor seems to fix it though).
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm waiting for N.E.A.K 1.3x too

as one of the posts above said siyah is the tweakers heaven..haha trust me i never used it before as i thought it was to complicated. but once you have done your reading and read other peoples posts and what they do to get the best out of the kernel you have a winner...all the rest look good i am not saying anything bad but for me from now on any rom i use siyah is coming with me due to the fact it has so many options to it and so much i can play around with i am in heaven
hope that helps...oh and on a side note i have been tempted to upgrade to a different rom but the current base i am using and with the kernel i have and the settings that i am using the only time i will actually jump ship is if one there is a stable cm9 out there by the amazing team hacksung. Two if Gokhanmoral does a siyah kernel for cm9 which i think will be when kernel sources are made available and three cause i have already my voodoo app all configured with my poweramp player to get the best sound possible i would be foolish to make the step at this moment of time...
So my advice for battery speedmod if you are not into tweaking alot with voltages and clock frequencies and if you want the best of both worlds then siyah
siyah 2.6.4.

Great feedback bro, I tried Siyah in the past but honestly when I used it I didn't know there were parameters to tweak (didn't check the REF documentation LOL).
Do you get smoother behavior / better performance / higher benchmark scores tweaking the parameters? In quadrant I get around 4604 with void.echo.
as my "personal" opinion...
since i instaled V3RTR3MA.V.4.0 rom, i've been using void#echo
couldn't ask for more its fast and stable... nothing too complicated and i could get 8186 in the quadrant benchmark... a really great kernel...
void echo.By far best kernel for common user, who doesn't want to do all kind of tweaks&stuff.By default is great. If you are into a litle tweaking, you can OC and UV without any issues.
I used it since it was released. No issues at all, battery friendly, great performance.
Trully a KISS principle follower.
My personal advice to all, avoid all roms&kernels that are heavily customized and have alot of useless "tweakes" and scripts on them. The more things on it, more chances of breaking up.
Look for simple builds,as close as it can be to stock, eye candy is not performance.
Jkay makes great themes wich you can apply to the rom.

100% agree most of the battery better and greater speed for these kernels is actually unproven and just advertising bumf .
I have used the kernels listed in the topic and in each case stock kernel has benchmarked better using multiple tests .

I agree with your opinion, and that's the reason why I use only Sammy Stock ROMs
I've flashed a number of roms and kernels in the past few months since May, best combination for me is usually a near stock rom, plus a stable kernel like Speedmod, they just work without needing any tweaking apart from custom set up that's it.
I don't generally like the number of tweaks in some roms but each to their own.
I find stock fine and fluid and stable enough without much problems.
Yeah..i get 6500+ without rawr and oc to 1600.you forget one thing,ALL other kernels have tweaked I/O scheduler enabled. Knzo says very clear in his thread.it's a way to cheat, that's why this tweak is not default on his kernel.
About rom, look for odexed.tornado2 by brotuck is one of the best around(odexed, pretty much stock, only useless apps removed from it).combined with jkay theme and coid echo...my s2 flies

Thanks for the suggestion dude! I'll take a look to it! Beside the removal of stock apps, what tweaks are included to achieve that score?
Best kernel so far for me is hardcore's speedmod.
Fast, first time I broke the 6000 barrier on Antutu benchmark without overclock. And great battery life, one full day + charging only by the end of day two, with normal use.
Normal use for me is making phone calls, surfing web and playing games sometimes, not more than 20min per "session". Turning wifi and 3g off when phone on standby. And switching to airplane mode overnight.
And yes I tried other kernels....

None.i dont flash a rom for benchmark scores.i flash it for how it works.those benchmarks cand be tricked, but whats the point?what do you preffer?a rom&kernel with high results on tests, but moves like crap, laggy,fc's with high battery drain or a phone that is snappy, smooth, fast, great battery life and works properly?

I would post this in the Development section, but I dont have enough posts yet.
Does anyone use an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM that is stable enough to use as a daily driver? I looked through the list but they all seem to be lacking data connection, gps, or some other main function that I need.
Is anyone running one of the ICS Roms as a daily driver?
Scotts 3.7 is fantastic! Only thing not working is data arrows. Do it! You won't regret it.

Cleanrom. Just switched over from gb about a week ago haven't had a problem yet and no way I would go back ics is sweet, mostly in gimmicky kinda ways(face unlock) but still improvement.
Joelz BAMF 1.0 is - been running it since Joel started development on it
The only ICS roms having data issues that I am aware of is the ones that are a true AOSP rom, such as CM9. To my knowledge all of the sense based ICS roms are working, with very few bugs, if any. I personally like Joelz desensed ICS rom. He should be updating in within the next couple days. I use it as my daily driver and have zero issues whatsoever.
id say go for clean rom and de-sense it if you want. the only thing keeping me away right now is all of the ugly green in the rom. once a blueish theme comes ill go for it. yes im anal about how my phone looks.

Actually, I was really looking for a stock ics Rom as I'm coming from a nexus s and I had gotten use to loving it.

What does desensed mean? Get rid of all the sense skin completely?

All of the ICS kernels stick at 384mhz or 1512mhz (or whatever max is) at all times, unless you apply the Conservative governor with a CPU control app (like SetCPU).
This causes
a) overheating (some report)
b) terrible battery drain (this is why ICS battery life typically is not as good as GB battery life)
c) great benchmark speed
Even with my extended battery, I'm not interested in this non-standard erratic performance and CPU clock speed situation.
When the kernel source is released, I hope that devs' work on ICS kernels is more stable than their work on GB kernels, too!
Anyway, the above explanation is why I will NOT be jumping to ICS again until a normally functioning kernel is available.
It's not worth it for facial unlock and Chome Beta. and...... yeah I have no idea what else ICS is good for!
Nils business sandwich, accept no substitutes. Always stable and clean, and issues are fixed quickly.

I do no not speak ill of other rom's but i highly recomend nil's p business ICS. It's smooth, stable , slightly themed and very well supported.
I have only tried Cleanrom ICS and NIL Business ICS. Both work good for me. Speaker phone works a little better on NILS. Tether, GPS navigation work on NILS. Didn't test GPS on CR but I assume it works. Tether works on CR. Battery is decent on both. They seem just a tad slower than gingerbread for me.
Apex launcher is nice for people that want a more AOSP like launcher.
Be careful of Mainversion if trying to switch back to a gingerbread rom from a ics rom though. If the Mainver is higher than a rom your are trying to switch too, you will have issues. There is a file here on the forums you can flash to set mainver lower before flashing a lower mainver rom I believe.
I'm using CleanRom 3.5. I don't have any notable issues. Tether works fine. Battery life is really good.

I've received different recommendations from everybody I talked to, but I would like to know what custom kernel people love most right now. I'm running simple rooted version of 4.2.2 right now with the stock kernel. I'm looking for something to improve battery life a bit and get rid of the weird graphical hiccups that can take place when rapidly switching tasks.

I'm using KTManta. Works pretty well and I can recommend.
Sent from my Nexus 10 with XDA Premium HD. ROM: AOKP PUB 4.4.2 Kernel: KTManta
Ktmanta is definitely the best kernel on nexus 10, and other devices for that matter. Load it up with the ktweaker app, set it to ktoonservative and row, and :good:
Franco seems to have a cult following, but the kernel just isn't where Ktmanta is at by any means.
Using KTManta, and loving it. I've tried all the others and keep coming back to KTManta. Behind that I would go with Morfic's Trinity kernel.
Franco and Trinity are great kernels that give smooth performance and good battery. KTmanta is also a smooth kernel though and has far more options and tweaks than the other kernels. By default you wont see that much difference on it over the stock kernel though, since ktoonsez does not like to set too many settings different than what stock has for its defaults. But you can easily load up his free tweaking program, or run Trickster MOD, and set any options you want. The ktoonservative governor is by far the best governor for this tablet.
Definitely KTManta great overall performance
Trinity for life.
KTManta
SLP and ZEN for best benchmark score
Ktoonservative and ZEN for best user experience (Which is all that matters)
Trinity little more soft and not so heat producing like other kernels, little help for battery also ..
Ktmanta its too laggy sometimes and not so much help to the battery like most of here are screaming..
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
There is no such thing as `the best' in the specific sense of the question.. They're free.. Go download them and try them yourself. Pick the one "you" feel is the best. Polling the forum isn't going to help you. You know what they say about opinions...
I like franco.Kernel. Can't say it's the best or not though since I really didn't do any in-depth testing.
Plenty kernel I try, at the end, I still back to custom ROM stock kernel.
franco - some issue and not stable.
KTManta - I still not sure why this is so famous, not the best in performance, even after use some people setting, it was better but not really great, and hang up sometimes especially when use certain I/O setting.
Trinity - Quite nice actually, not much to complain about it, but I don't see a need to use it.
By the way, I am happily running mrRobinson AOKP ROM with it own kernel.
I'm actually quite happy with KTManta, using the Zen scheduler and ktoonservative governor. Extremely smooth, lag free, with good battery.

Not sure how that happened. Using suggested settings this is the best performing kernel for me. If you're randomly messing with I/o settings yeah it can cause issues but I wouldn't suggest doing that unless you know what everything does KT + zen(minor tweaks) + ktoonservative + UV = battery and performance for me

There have been a couple releases with issues for me on KTManta kernel, but a couple releases out of the 20 or so versions is not much. The issues are quickly fixed and a new version put out anyway so maybe you just happened to come in and try it on one of those releases. This kernel is so popular because it has the most active dev and the most options.
And why do you think the Franco kernel is not stable?
For what its worth, Im partial to Franco's r3 kernel--having tested the others. It improved my overall web browsing smoothness on 4.2.2 which is all I was looking for after moving from 4.2.1. As previously stated, what's "best" for me may not be "best" for others. Cheers!
Kernels much like silicon slabs are unique...each device will respond differently. Try em all...and pick your favorite.

You know actually.....
They are all good, if you know what you are doing.
Trinity and Franco are the best if you just want to set and forget. KTmanta is the best if you want to tweak and have options to play with.
Hey, I have my Galaxy note 2 on stock rom, 4.1.2. Odexed
I was wondering which is the best kernel that supports swaping external memory on internal
I really need your help, i dont know which kernel I should choose, I was going to try redpill kernel but people are saying that it has battery draining problems
Please help me, I baby my note 2 and I would rather die than seeing my note 2 having issues, and thats why I dont flash custom roms
Or, if there is a way to swap external mem on internal with some kind of app or OTHER WAY THAN A KERNEL
Thanks
You can use search button for that script. And you have to use kernel with init.d support.
perseus has best battery life with good performance, high costumisation by stweaks. agni best performance set by trickster mod problem is i can't set over the gpu... neak is good but i think it,s not so smooth. that was a shot review of some kernel. my choice at the time is agni

Perseus really does have the best battery drain.
But it lags in games.
Redpill has the best audio engine. Scoobydoo
Some members like. Neak more. Wolfson
Adam is currently going into the right way... You could. Try adam... Seems to. Ne. Very good.
Every custom kernel supports init.d.
Just flash the mod exsd2internalsd..... And you're good to go

Stock is the best kernel, if you care about performance. Period.
But you'll realize that after using a fluid ROM like ARHD, with stock ROM performance of all kernels felt same to me. Still if I had to choose one I'd go for N.E.A.K, as it is pretty straightforward with nifty features, just if it had the exFAT support!

I don't know on what basis you're making this claim, but anyways it's been the exact opposite for me - Redpill, Perseus, Devil all have great fluidity (had to mess about with the settings of Perseus a bit to eliminate the initial lag - but with no other) - and I haven't tried OC/UV much. Not to mention the headphone/speaker amp and saturation prevention options, screen calibration etc. which you miss out on stock.

The basis was my own testing with Perseus, Red Pill and even Adam, for a pretty long time. Not a single one was as fast and fluid as stock, even with the modified settings of stock kernel found here,

Oh, and as I said, if you are on stock ROM you won't notice anything, that's why I used Perseus as long as I was on stock ROM, but since I moved to ARHD, there was no other option other than stock.
Yes, I agree there are some advantages of custom kernels, like saturation prevention as you said, but no way I was giving up very noticeable performance degradation for some extra features without which I am not bothered at all. And since I installed Viper there are some amplifications, so that point is unchecked from custom kernels advantage list.
PS: If you have no problem could you send me your settings of whatever kernel you are using? I wanna try once more and see. Please don't bother if that kernel doesn't support exFAT.

I never ever stayed stock except for the while I had to send it to service. Otherwise I used redpill (exFAT supported) and I've noticed no difference at all from when I had stock unrooted. What's your issue - are you experiencing lag with custom kernels? Or what?
Fair point regarding Viper (love it and use it always myself), but FLL tuning and DAC resampling options make it sound better at that. IMO.
I stay on Perseus, mainly because of its color calibration and all the Stweaks customization features. Now if I use stock kernel, I feel my screen is completly unrealistic, almost fluorescent lol
As for performances, the Note 2 is just powerful enough not to see any difference between kernels. People using ARHD will always tell you that stock kernel is the best for the following reason: Mike1986 says stock is the best and won't give support if you're using another kernel. Period.
I'm using ARHD, but can't stand the fake colors and the lack of customization provided by stock kernel (no GPU overclock for example, no CPU overclock, nothing you can do if your "whites" are pink or blue, etc)

What the hell does this suppose to mean? Mike says.....blah blah....I don't care what Mike says! And what support are you talking about? I was on Perseus while I was using A.R.H.D, one can flash any kernel on ARHD, what to support there?
It's my view, and I am quite sure of all the ARHD users too, the stock kernel gives much more fluid and lag free performance than any other kernel available. Everybody likes customization, but as I said not with the price of performance compromise.
And you can OC GPU/CPU with Tegrak on Stock kernel. Get your facts straight before typing some gibberish.
Perfect example of why "best ROM/kernel" threads are not allowed.
