[Q] dpi change for settings screen (s) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone successfully changed dpi for settings screen? If so, what application did you change?

I changed the build.prop DPI to 240, then a few apps back to 320 using the custom settings that came with the ROM.

Either using a root-capable file explorer and navigating to the system/build.prop file and using the built-in text editor to modify it, or (easier) download a DPI changer from the Play Store.

Yea. Really. I have no interest in changing all of my dpi settings. I would like to change it independently similar to changing dpi for select apps (file managers, Gmail, gvoice, etc). I'm talking about the screens the user navigates through after clicking menu and then settings.
And to further clarify my poorly worded question, I know how to change it but was wondering which "application" to change the dpi on to make desired changes.
Make sense?

You have to go into the xposed framework installer and install it first, then go to modules and enable App Settings. From there you can manually change the DPI on a per-app basis. I have the build.prop modified for a 240DPI and then just change some apps back to 320, such as phone, camera, etc.

Obviously I have done this already boss. Lol xposed is easy to use. Changing dpi for JUST settings will not stick. If you change your entire build prop, then obviously it will work. He was asking about ONLY changing settings. He probably wants the tablet style settings and everything else a more normal dpi. Touch wiz settings won't go into tablet mode like that though.

Thanks for making it possible to have the scrolling wallpaper back Just one thing tho, when trying to set a wallpaper, it isn't possible to adjust size for wider ones, as the single adjustment is there (see screenshot) anyone know how to remove that so wider images can be adjusted?

Question

I have tried a few driving apps but I think what I really need, given the space on the Note II, is to just make my own driving interface out of widgets. If such a thing is possible. Unfortunately I am not finding what I need and I was wondering if anyone here knows of any matches
I am looking for a maps, or even better, a navigation widget. IE something I can place on the screen as a widget 4x4 or something like that that is showing the navigation app. using widgets which I can resize and place myself. I am essentially looking to make my own dash screen. But the key component is a widget version of maps and/or navigation.
If you change the dp in system with xposed, you can have floating windows. Then you can have navigation floating over all of your screens, and close it when finished. I know that this isn't what you are asking, just a suggestion.

It is not the perfect solution, but it works. Sometimes you havecto back out ofcit instead of closing it. Other than that, it is awesome.

Can you be a little more specific? Can not seem to reproduce that in xposed.
Sure thing. First install xposed, then install app settings. Enable app settings, then reboot. Gointo app settings, and click android. When the screen pops up, click on dp. Change the dp to 600x1024. Reboot, and you should have floating windows.
These are the setings I use. The only problem that I have had from changing this is my lockscreen rotates, and only shows 3 shortcuts on the lockscreen.

Strange. I already have Xposed installed as I run Jelly "Beans" and use the custom DPI on a few apps. But when I make those changes to Android System I don't see any change to the apps I open such as maps. No biggy, just curious why it doesn't work.

Best DPI for Galaxy Note 2

I was wondering what is the best DPI for my Galaxy Note 2, I tried other people's suggestions but it didn't work for me so I was wondering how Google decided on their DPI. Considering they're in charge of Android they must know the optimal level so I used the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 4 as reference:

So if Google designed a 5.5 inch screen device with 720x1280 resolution, it would most likely be at 270 DPI
I know this won't help a lot of you how it helped me but just thought I'd share it just on the hunch that it might at least help the 1% :silly:
I've tested most of resolution and the best for me is 280 dpi

So I actually like stock on this phone...

I've tried a bunch of different ROMs and I always come back to stock. BUT there are a couple things I can't stand:
The home screen not rotating and the status bar. I like a transparent status bar with white lettering.
Is there any way to get these things on stock or a *very* stock ROM?

If you unlock the bootloader using:
[Jailbreak][Root][Recovery] No You Verizon -VRAMC3 --update 10MAY13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
then you'll have root and *very* stock ROM, the one you always had.
After getting root that or some other way you can enable continuous home screens by modifying <launcher disable page rotation> in the feature.xml file in the system/csc directory. (See the Verizon GN2 Root section of Android Central for an article on enabling continuous (infinite) home screen.)

You can always swipe a seclauncher2.apk feom a rom that has rotation home screens. I did it from one a long time ago, and keep it handy. Let me see if I can dig it up for you.
Here it is.
http://db.tt/LNV1c0wO
Backup your old one by renaming it with .bak before pasting this in system apps. Verify that the permissions are correct, and reboot. If for some reason I grabbed the wrong one, tall at me, and I will send the right one.

Or you could do a very simple file edit where you change one word from true to false.
Goto system, CSC, open feature.XML in a text editor and scoll down till you see a line talking about launcher rotation being disabled

I use Clean Rom because its a very good base rom stripped of bloat - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073390
Then you can use my theme which has skip options for EVERYTHING you want/dont want - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236731
My theme has everything you mentioned, I have an option for 50% transparency on the status bar or 100% transparency, I also have a section for white status bar icons.

Dude....I don't think you understand. LCD density is not same as font size.
Open up news.Google.com on your phone and compare with the screenshot below...you should get the idea

Or you could do a very simple file edit where you change one word from true to false.
Goto system, CSC, open feature.XML in a text editor and scoll down till you see a line talking about launcher rotation being disabled

Found the file in the location you mentioned, but can't find anything about launcher rotation. Would you be willing to cut & paste that section from your feature.xml for reference?
I too like stock the best. I have flashed them all and always come back to stock. I especially love comments like, this ROM is perfect .... Except this or that doesn't work right!
Stock, rooted and loving it!

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
HOW TO
You need to edit your default build.prop
Open build.prop with any root explorer
find the following lines:
ro.product.name=hltespr
ro.product.device=hltespr
and change it to:
ro.product.name=kltespr
ro.product.device=kltespr
After you save then reboot.
Let me know if this works for you and enjoy
Thanks micmars for finding this out
For those using fre3 should know that it busts the finger ink app, and crashes the video editor app.

Has anybody notice by changing the icon in build.prop to spark has effect on other parts of the system ui like the notification toggles and the task killer

Check my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2687288&page=15 with the screen shots. If you follow this your toggles will look cleaner and your settings will look like in the screen shots. I'm going to try going back to this setup but I'll try the build.prop edit first. I think the Spark icons should stick after flashing the S5 toggles and theme and swapping out the systemUI apk as I did before. I'll let you know.

I was playing around with the build prop and put
ro.product.name=kltespr
ro.product.device=kltespr
And as micmars stated it does crashes you video editor app.
So i played around again and made it like this :
ro.product.name=kltespr
ro.product.device=SM-G900P
To see if i get to keep spark icons and see if video editor app works and they all work atleast for me.
Let me know if that helps or works for anyone else.
